IPad 4 Retina connected to Canon 5D III

I am trying to connect my Canon 5D III to my iPad 4 Retina so I can review photos as I shoot. I want a wired connection.  I have the correct cables. One end is connected to my camera, the other is connected to my iPad. This is as far as I got. The camera will not fire. I'm looking for a detailed description of what I need to do. Help. Bob

        Hey there nemesyssoft!
Congrats on the new iPad! It's a great device! We certainly want you to be able to use the device as soon as possible. If I may ask, were you still having issues connecting to the data network at all? Activation can take be a bit longer the initial time. Please let us know if you still need assistance.
    Thanks!

  • Canon 5D III tethered to Ipad

I have a 5D III. I would like to tether (wireless or cable-direct) to my iPad 4 Retina so I can proof pictures in near real-time.  I prefer wireless so I can work in the field where this is NO internet connectivity.  I have Aperture, Lightroom 5, and PS CC 2014 on my big computer. Can I do this? How?  Eye-fi, camranger, etc? What software do I need to be running on my iPad? HELP!  Bob

The 5D III does support the Eye-Fi card (in it's SD card slot) and the iPad also supports it.  That's not a problem.
The problem, is that if you shoot RAW (I prefer to shoot RAW) it is painfully slow to transfer images via the Eye-Fi.
The radio in the card is not continuously active.  It stays off while you're shooting (to conserve battery power since the radio drains battery faster) and after about 5 seconds of the camera being idle, the radio will switch on, join the network, and begin transferring images.  JPEG images transfer in just a few seconds... but RAW images take considerably longer (probably at least 30 seconds for each image but I've never timed it.)
That means you "shoot" and wait for about the next 40 seconds for your image to show up on the iPad... which is painfully slow for proofing before moving on to the next shot.  And as I said... it's not like you can ignore it and just keep shooting while images transfer because it will never shoot and transfer images at the same time.  If it has a bunch of images queued up to transfer and starts copying them, as soon as you start shooting again it will halt the transfer and switch off the radio (it will switch on again when the camera goes idle again.)
So while this "works" in concept, it's painfully slow to the point that I don't think you'll enjoy it.
ANOTHER option (and I haven't tried this myself) is to use the Canon WFT-E7A wireless file transmitter for the camera.  Canon also has a WFT Server app for iOS that would work on the iPad and allow the WFT module to transfer files to the iPad that way.  See:  http://learn.usa.canon.com/app/pdfs/quickguides/WFT_Server_iOS.pdf
Before you race out and buy one, read the product reviews.  Lets just say it doesn't exactly get stellar reviews.  From what I can tell, it "works" in that it does what it claims to do, but it's described as being extremely clunky.  Add to that ... it's ludicrously overprice for what it is.  If you read the reviews you quickly get the idea that Canon basically crammed something out the door without much thought to it... and should probably be embarassed by this particular accessory.
I like my Canon products... but even I had a hard time with the price tag and the fact that it's appearance suggests it was designed by a team who was not allowed to know what the 5D III actually looked like when they were designing this accessory.

  • Canon 5D III tether to iPad 4 (either cable direct or wifi

I'm using a Canon 5D III and I would like to RELIABLY transfer photos in real-time to my iPad 4 Retina for proofing/checking the photos.  Either cable-direct or wifi.  I have the latest version of Lightroom and PS CC 2014. Can I do it and how do I do it? I've read that some of wifi options are not that reliable. Thanks. Bob

FWIW I have in the past used the Canon CameraWindow app to transfer photos to my iPad 4 from my wife"s Canon SX280HS via WiFi...

  • Itunes no longer connects to 5S, ipad Mini retina and ipad 2 after ios 8.02 update

Since the ios 8 and now 8.02 updates my Itunes does not connect at all to my iphone 5s, ipad mini (retina) and ipad 2.
iTunes' built in diagnostic sync test says no devices found.
I plug in the USB and nothing happens.
USB ports are working fine. All my other USB plug ins still work fine.
Same computer, same Windows 7 - 64 bit - all updated.
I did a clean iTunes delete per Apple instructions and then re installed iTunes again per Apple instructions and still nothing.
I got first a missing DLL error message and then not even a beep when plugging in the cord (yes all Apple accessories).
Anyone else run into this issue?
    Sheesh I hate updates!
    Thanks!

  • Ipad mini retina ios 8 update - useless wifi connection

    Hi,
I updated my ipad mini retina display to latest version of ios 8 yesterday. What a disaster that turned out to be - since updating wifi connection to my BT homehub 5 router has been terrible. It will work for a few minutes then the connection just sticks - it not the router as iphone 5 and laptop work perfectly with it.
Tried a hard re-set, re-setting the network settings & finally reset to original setting - same thing happens.
Anyone help me with this? I so wish I'd never run this update and stuck with ios7 - presumably there is no way back??
    Thanks

    Hi,
Same issue here, unstable connection since I updated to iOS 8.0.2, I need to turn off/on the wifi when it happens. That is not a router issue as my other devices work perfectly (iPhone 5 with iOS 8.0.2 by the way)
I already restored my iPad min three times in vain !
Waiting for for a fix, that's all we can do but it's very frustrating and disappointing !

  • Can i connect my canon 7d to my iPad air

Can I connect my Canon EOS 7D camera to my iPad Air with or without a cable for picture download or remote shooting.

You can connect your Canon 7D to your iPad Air to download photos from the camera to the iPad. You need two items to do this.
    1. You need the USB cable that came with your camera. it has the small USB connector at one end and a standard USB connector at the other end.
    2. You need a Lightning to USB Camera Adapter.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD821ZM/A/lightning-to-usb-camera-adapter?fnod e=3a
There may be some way to do remote shooting but I'm not sure of this. I suggest you ask the question on a forum specific to cameras like Digital Photo Review (DPR). http://www.dpreview.com/forums/1032

My new iPad with Retina Display is not able to connect to the Wi-Fi of my new Time Capsule. It use to connect, but now it just spins and spins and never connects. I've tried rebooting everything many times.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)

PS - I just sent this to a few of my friends in the big hardware review sites, as well as a few apple execs:
Whats up guys? Its your old buddy dom "battleship mtron author , 9 ssd drives in raid 0" years ago. lol
I wanted to fill you in on a HUGE problem with the new ios 6 update.
My iphone 4 updated without a hitch.
My ipad 3 on the other hand has a HUGE PROBLEM. It is essentially a brick without wifi (since the device relies on wifi for just about every task).
There are currently hundreds of a users within the last 2 hours reporting the same error on the apple discussions site.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19626235#19626235
    What happens is simple:
    1. Download and install the update on Ipad 3.
    2. Try and connect to your normal wifi connection.
    3. It will connect for a few seconds and than fail stating "no internet connection available"
    4. It is no a brick without wifi accessibility. (unless we revert to ios 5)
I have tried resetting my router. Resetting settings on the ipad. Renewing the ip address both LOCALLY and through the WAN at the cable modem and rebooting all of my networking equipment (ie: router), I even tried doing a complete wipe and re-install of ios 6 fresh. You guys know I am a tech geek from my background and I have tried everything so I just wanted to fill you in on this potential problem for apple.

  • IPad mini retina - The connected device requires too much power.

    Hi,
I just bought the IDJ Live 2 Controller on 6 march 2014.
when I connect the lightning cable to the ipad and idj live 2, it shows me an error.
Unable to use the device: The connected device requires too much power.
i use the original cable from numark idj, my configuration is:
ipad mini retina ios 7.0.6 - idj live 2.
I tried with iPhone 4, it works well. (same ios)
I also have a sd card lighting adapter and it works on the iPad mini retina.
Currently it is not possible to power the lightining cable..
maybe in future, will Apple increase the output current through new ios?

No, because the other end of the lighining cable has a mini usb (type b) connector.
