IPad 4 wifi taking 36 hours to download ios8.1.3?

I have an IPad 4 32gb wifi. It performs pretty well but I got a new laptop and decided now as the time to update my ipad to iOS 8.1.3 since I couldn't before due to lack of space.
I have the newest version of iTunes. I started to download the iPad iOS 8.1.3 update and if said 46 hours on the laptop.
I decided to make some space on the iPad to download the update that way instead, without the laptop.
This way it says 36 hours and won't go down. This is just downloading! Not updating
I have turned the iPad off and on again (best way to solve a problem, surely? ) and that reduced the download time to 23 minutes, then it sprung up to 36 hours again.
I really don't know what to do.
I haven't updated my iPad in a long time - its currently at iOS 7.0.4, which means I'm trying to go from 7.0.4 to 8.1.3
Is this the problem or is there something else? My wifi isn't particularly slow, it runs everything else at a fantastic speed, yet even when I try this download as the only thing happening in the house, still this huge wait.
Can someone help?

Thanks! Well, it's been so long I can't remember when I did it, but the update to 7.0.4 went smoothly. Never had this issue before, but my phone (iphone 5s) needs updating to 8.1.3 too and it's just failing to download at all.
Actually, the iPad got down to 23 hours and then it came up with 'download failure' so back to square one pretty much
Im thinking of making an appointment at the apple store near me and going to see if they can help. The iPad is backed up and everything so, hopefully theyll be able to help?
i Just find it weird that it keeps saying itll take so long, then failing!

Apple TV taking 25 hours to download a movie from purchase in iTuntes library. Worse, I only have 24 hours to watch? Anyone help why this is happening?

How fast is your internet - sounds as though it's 1Mbps or less?
For HD movies 6Mbps is needed for near instant playback.
AppleTv has to prebuffer much of the movie to allow uninterrupted playback if you have <6Mbps, how long this takes depends on the average connection speed - at 3.5 Mbps currently it takes around 40 mins for mine to buffer HD whereas Sd is near instant to play.
AppleTV2 has limited memory and using it to do other tyhings while a rental is prebuffering can flush any downloaded protion requiring you to start again from scratch - it can be better to rent in iTunes then once it's fully downloaded play on AppleTV under Computers>iTunes library>Rentals column.

  • HT1349 I have a laptop computer with Windows 7, powered intel core i7. I am trying to download a  purchased movie from ITunes. I am on wifi g.  Why is it taking 17 hours to download a simple movie? This is nuts!

Question:  Why when downloading a purchased movie from ITunes does it take 8 to 17 hours to download?  I have an HP Laptop with Windows 7 using a core processer i7.  This is the second day to try to get the movie downloaded and I still cannot watch this movie.  Seems like a problem with ITunes or a scam. I use a IPhone 4 with little issues, But when using this lap top -- it is a joke.

First thing to do is get the CC off your system.  Then try the direct download option linked below...
You can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

  • Apple tv 2 recognizes router but is taking 14 hours to download on  12mb connection?

Apple TV 2 recognized router but is taking 14 hours on a 12mb connection. Any ideas?

Is that your actual or advertised speed? Have you checked www.speedtest.net
If on wifi try ethernet and www.istumbler.net to rule out interference
Make sure you're using your ISP's DNS

  • HT1498 Why is it taking 8 hours to download a rented movie?

Why is it taking 8 hours to load a rented movie on ITV?

    Winston,
Converted HD movies for Apple TV are not more than 2.5MB stream in HD. Apple TV gen 1 wa capable of 5Mbit with less FPS, but not newer once. Where did you get 6 and 8Mbit from?
There is no need for that fast stream (sorry buddy but I work with streams quite a bit).
The problem could be not a speed, but crowdeed networks. If one uses WiFI on 2.4 GHz then in crowded areas you have issue of too many overlapping WiFI networks and time sharing channels. Only three channels in WiFi band 2.4GHz do not overlap, but there are still shared by neigbors.
That is the reason I run 5GHz Wirless-N as the only one in my neigborhood. No channel overlaps, no choppy network, no choppy movies.
That may not be an issue of stream speeds. Just ADSL 3Mbit would be fine. Trust me as I had that for long time with Apple TV before I switched to FiOS.
Apple TV is equipped with enough memory to buffer almost entire H.264 encoded High Definition movie so only start could be delayed if network is slower, but not by 8 hours.
Another possibility is that Apple network is busy which I experienced quite a bit in the past especially on Friday and Saturday evenings. Rentals that time were menace.

  • HT1657 Rental taking 9 hours to download?

Usually it says that the rental  will take 8+ hours to download and usually only takes a few minutes. Tonight though, it has been 2 hours since the download started and still says theres 7 hours remaining? I am caught up with my iTunes updates and my internet connection is working perfectly fast. What's the deal?

That is dependent on your network.
What is your current connection, use speedtest.net
Make sure DNS is set to automatic (settings - general - network)
    If on wifi try ethernet
Go to istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC) to get a report of the network, look for signal strength and noise.

  • Why is it taking 3 hours to download new iOS 8.1.3 software?

what's going on?? 3 hours to download update to my mac? why is it taking so long. is it really that big of an update or should have I just downloaded directly to my phone and not to my computer as I have done for all other iOS updates?

What is your internet speed? The update is approx 3 GB and took ~ 27 minutes on my 10 megabit connection. This has a lot to do with how long it takes to download something. Network traffic will affect this as well. If too many people are trying to download the same thing at the same time, throughput will slow down. If the download is taking too long, possibly start it before heading to bed.

  • Why is it taking 3 hours to download trial version of photoshop, elements 10?

I am trying to download trial version of Photoshop Elements 10 and it saya it will take 3 hours to download. Why does it take so long? I thought the days of long downloads were like the dinosaurs, a thing of the past.

I am the author of above post, and I want adobe to be aware that I have uninstalled their product and will not be considering any products to be purchased from them. I spent several hrs. last night and all day today watching hour after hour of tutorials on the elements program and was still unable to complete a single project. I phoned support. Their return call was 3 hrs later than they said it would be and then they hung up before I even spoke to a CS rep.or support tech. You want the money, Adobe, but ypou don't want to put a user friendly program on the market, nor do want to make sure that sufficent support is out there for those of us brave enough or stupid enough to actually try to master your products. I WILL NOT, EVER, CONSIDER PURCHASING ONE OF YOUR PRODUCTS AGAIN. Just to get to a forum or tutoria, which are not thurough, takes a miricale and several hours.

  • Blazing fast internet connection, but still taking 4 hours to download a movie on Apple tv?

This apple tv has been nothing but a huge pain in the *** so far. I started watching a movie that I rented and then it stops 20 minutes into the movie and says it will need between 3 and 7 hours to download the rest and be ready to play. ***?

    vazandrew -
I have seen you make several posts on different threads always pushing istumbler and namebench to help solve this problem.  While I do appreciate the help, it seems like you must work either for one of those companies or for Apple.  I own 4 Apple TV 3's in three different locations (my office, home, beach house).  I am having this problem at all three.  I too had ATV 2's before and had no problems with downloading movies/buffering.  The only common denominator for all three locations is they are all connected wirelessly through an Apple Time Capsule and are using high-speed cable Internet.  I am using my ISPs DNS in all three locations, have little to no interference, and have minimum internet speeds of 15 mbps.  Through process of elimination, the problem has to lie either with Apple or with my internet service provider.  The funny thing is I don't have internet problems with anything else.  I realize that an ethernet connection would make everything better, but that is not feasible.  Aren't the ATV's designed to be used wirelessly?  If it is a problem of "high traffic time" with my cable in the evenings, do you know of any way of getting my ISP to improve this?  Otherwise, it seems to be an Apple problem.  I will note that the iTunes store has gone offline several times in the last couple of weeks.  Again, this has never happened to me before.  Any help is much appreciated.  I am a devoted Apple user, and this is the first time I have been this frustrated.  Why pay for the fastest internet possible if my Apple TV is still not going to work?

  • Why is it taking 20 hours to download a movie from itunes?

i just purchased a movie from itunes and it says that it will take around 20 hours to download, is that normal?

    Hi lacostejacket,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are downloading a movie from iTunes and it gave you an estimated time of 20 hours to complete. Download times can vary depending on the size of the file and the speed of Internet connection. Please use the following article as a reference. It has a table that shows expected download times for certain speeds.

  • Ipad has wifi connection but will not download

Hi, I'm having an issue with my Ipad 2 iOS 7.1.2, it only started happening last night. IPad can see and is joined to wifi but will not download or send anything. Always times out after spinning wheel.
Have tried connecting to and joined, various wifi routers in other houses. So know it's not the router. Still no Download or send.
    Have done a hard reset.
    Have reset the network settings.
Any other suggestions. I'm at a bit of a loss.
Oh and the iPad is away from my mac so can not reinstall or restore.

    Howdy PJRS,
It sounds like you are unable to access the internet on your iPad, but you are indeed connected to a Wi-Fi network. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article to help you get that resolved:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your Wi-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Unable to access the Internet while connected to Wi-Fi
If you're using a public or commercial network, you may need to log in or subscribe.
Check to see if you have a self-assigned IP address:
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected and tap .
If your IP address is 169.254.xxx.xxx, you may not be able to access the Internet.
If you do not have a self-assigned IP address, see if other Wi-Fi devices on your network have Internet access.
If they do not, consult with your network administrator or ISP for further assistance.
If they do, reset network settings on your device by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling
