IPad Air 2 and 27 inch Thunderbolt display
I picked up a new iPad Air 2 to replace my iPad Air. I keep a charging cable plugged into one of the USB ports on the back of the Thunderbolt Display. I use it for charging my iPhone 6, iPad Mini, and my previous Air. I use the TB Display when I plug in my Late 2013 Macbook Pro.
Yesterday when I had my Macbook hooked up to the TB Display I plugged the new iPad 2 Air into the cable coming off the back of the display and nothing happened. No charging or iTunes did not open on the MB Pro. Tried a different cable, different port and nothing. Removed the cable and plugged it into the USB MB Pro and all was good. Mind you my other iPad Air, Mini and iPhone all work when I connect to the cable when it is plugged into the back of the TB Display.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks...
27" Display is must power ON, so USB port will have DC power . (5V)
27" Display is AUTO power OFF = if No display Video.
Solution = Connect MacBook the power ON 27" display
since 27" Display is ON ==> now USB have power to charged iPad Air 2

May i know the difference between a Apple LED Cinema Display (27" flat panel) and a Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch)? both products look the same to me, even the prices are the same, but the name of the product is different. Its so confusing! I want to purchase a secondary display for my 21" iMac, but idk the difference between the two.
furthermore, another question i have is, is 27" the largest display i can get? is there larger ones (just the screen, not the computer)?
please help, thanks!rae90 wrote:

One has thunderbolt capabilities, the other doesn't.

No you can get a larger one. Maybe not an Apple one, but certainly another brand. -
HT1349 27 inch Thunderbolt Display is dead ... 3 days old
$999. 27 inch Thunderbolt Display is dead! It was purchased on December 16, 2012 ... opened on Christmas day ... and died on December 27, 2012.
I have my Thunderbolt display connected to my MacBook Pro and have been experiencing the same issue, getting worse over time. The folks at my local Apple store did not know what to do about it. So, I looked around and tried different thing.
The one thing that seems to be working is to System Preferences > Build-in Display > uncheck “Automatically adjust brightness.”
I hope this helps. -
We just got 2 iPad air today and Set up both with the same Apple ID, now I'm getting FaceTime and messages for my 12 yr. old. Do I have to set up a separate Apple ID for her to avoid this?
It's a trust issue. You can set them up so you don't receive each other's messages as long as you each have your own email address.
The trust issue is the fact that either of you can change the separation at any time via Settings by checking the appropriate (inappropriate?) email address.
To be absolutely sure you can never receive each other's messages will require two Apple IDs. -

I changed to ipad air 2 and am unable to download books from overdrive. I am connected to wifi and have tried every option on the overdrive site. It closes everytime I try to download a file.
Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that doesn't help, restart your internet modem and router then try downloading books. -

The iPad's Mail app has no provisions for creating groups. However, you can use a third party app that many users recommend.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

I have a mid 2012 non retina 15inch macbook pro, and a 27inch 2012 imac, and a 27inch thunderbolt dsplay and I want to use the imac and the thunderbolt display as dual monitors for my macbook pro and daisy chain them together. I have an extra thunderbolt cable, How would I go about doing this, every time I try to connect it via Target Display mode it only shows up on the imac and the thunderbolt diplay shows the imac screen but I cannot access anything on it. I would love some help, I am probably just missing something simple.
Yes there is on Mac computers that do not come from the factory with "Built In", Note the Words Built In, DVD drive.
On all Mac computers that come with Built In DVD drive Apple has Restricted the installation of Windows from ONLY That Built In drive and Only when it is Physically installed inside the system.
Many people have tried what you want to do and to my knowledge None have been successful.
It is something that is Hard Wired, Written, into the Firmware of these Mac computers.
Some have tried installing Windows on the standard HDD and then moving that HDD to the optical bay or leaving it in the main bay and installing a SSD into either the main drive bay or optical bay and have been greeted with the system not booting to either OS or not booting to Windows.
Something about how boot camp sets up the drive and possibly makes changes to the Firmware or EFI partition on the drive that Windows is installed to or to both that restrict it. You can't even make another Mac OS X partition on that drive without screwing up the Windows install.
To your last post the Answer is NO as stated above. -
How can I tell my MacBook Air to automatically detect my Thunderbolt Display?
I have a brand new MacBook Air (13", mid-2011) running 10.7.2 (and all updates) and Thunderbolt Display (with firmware 22.2, the latest)
When I plug the thunderbolt plug into the port, I expect the MBA to recognize the display and automatically start using the display based on the last settings (arrangement, etc.) This is how every other display (Apple or not) has worked with a MacBook I've owned. This is one of the nice little touches that I really appreciate about Apple products.
What actually happens when I plug in the thunderbolt display is.... nothing. The MBA will work happily as if there is no external display plugged in until I bring up the Displays control panel and "Detect Displays". This is contrary to how it worked in the past and based on that experience, I consider the current behavior to be a bug.
Is there some setting I'm missing to make this work properly? It is pretting annoying to have to many times a day (in the morning and every time I take my MBA away from my desk). Is this a known issue that Apple will be fixing soon?
Thanks,
Paul Philion

Mac Owner Since 1985It's definitely not supposed to work like that...when you plug the display in, it should just turn on and adjust your displays. It works like that on my MBP. Kind of a silly question, but do you have the MagSafe from the display plugged in your MBAir too? Thats a requirement. Beyond that, it should "just work."
Not sure if there is some setting to enable...i haven't seen it. Call to support? -
27 inch thunderbolt display blacks out after Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2
Bought 2 new 27 inch TB displays for two different machines and after a couple of days the Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2 appears on my Mac Pro with one of the displays installed. So I install the firmware update. Now my display blacks out periodically and I keep getting Graphic Display Errors with a request to sent the errors to Apple. Running a 32 GB Mac Pro (late 2013 circular style) I have three monitors connected (two 20 inch cinema displays and the new 27 inch display). This machine is supposed to be able to handle three 4k monitors or 6 standard TB displays. I've seen the posts about the blacking out with this monitor but I didn't have any problems before the firmware update and now I've got them pretty regularly. I had the blacking out problem on an earlier monitor and took one of the monitors back and Apple gave me another one and this is the replacement. Same problem, but this one only started after the update. I'm hoping someone from Apple reads these messages and can let me know what's up.
BTW, I also have an older 27 inch Apple monitor that ran perfectly on this machine so I'm disappointed that I spent all this money and now get the blacking out issue.

Apple should make a 32 inch thunderbolt display.
Since macs can hold hd media I would like to enjoy it on an apple thunderbolt display. I don't have cable since I'm a hulu plus subscriber and I don't wish to buy a flat screen tv. It would be cool if apple make a 32 inch model so i can enjoy my media better instead of watching it on my macbook pro. Personally I think the 27 inch is a tad to small.
Is there some problem connecting your MBP to your TV? Or don't you realize you can do that?
Use a mini-displayport to hdmi adapter adapter and a hdmi cable or a mini-diplayport to hdmi cable to connect the MBP to the TV. -
Dear all,
I was wondering if i can buy i ipad air in Thailand and use the full options also in the Netherlands. At the moment I am in Thailand for 5 months. After those 5 months i will return back to the netherlands and want to use a dutch sim card for internet access? Is that possible?
Do some people have the experience with tis, and do you recomend me to buy the product over here?
Thank you in advance,
MarcoAt least with the Apple Stores in Southern California and in the Los Angeles area, only the lower-end standard models listed on the Apple web site are in stock. Ones with upgrades to the processor and RAM -- and also to storage -- need to be custom ordered either via the web site or through the toll free Apple phone number. They will build the new Mac to the exact specifications that you request right at the factory and then ship it to any store that you specify, and they can also give you a very good estimate for the day it will arrive at the specified store.
I recently did this for a 13-inch Macbook Air, where we ordered the fastest processor, the max memory (8 GB), and the most internal storage (512 GB). It arrived at the Apple Store about 5 days after the order was placed. -
Does Safari ever fill up the entire 27 inch thunderbolt display
I just connected a thunderbolt display (27 inche) to my Macbook Pro Retina, but I am trying to get safari to fill out the entire display... it just fills out a center column. Is this possible? Please see attached image for my problem
No, the way HTML is structured doesn't allow for text or images to flow outside the 'boundaries', so to speak. So you just get a background color (if one is programmed) or tiled image as the background. All of the 'content' stays within a predefined area that makes it look the same on multiple browsers (I'm just now getting into HTML and CSS coding now - pretty interesting stuff).
