  • Change iPad 3 facetime/messaging #

Hello, I recently bought a new iPad
an iPad air to be exact, and I had an iPad 3 before, which had my facetime and messaging number as my cell number
Now after I got the Air, I gave my iPad 3 to my son, who has a cell with facetime and messaging. He wants to switch the iPad 3 to have his number from his phone.
Now the problem is we don't know how to "change" the number from mine, to his onto is iPad.
We use the same account for Apple/iTunes
There must be a simpler way to do something so complicated, help would be appreciated
    Thanks

Unless he has an iPhone, he cannot use that phone number for FaceTime and Messages. The feature does not work with other phone numbers because the phone number must be linked to your Apple ID. You are sharing an Apple ID, so that is half of the battle, but unless his phone is an iPhone it isn't going to work.
Assuming that he has an iPhone, the instructions for linking phone numbers to the Apple ID in order to use it for FaceTime and Messages can be found here.

  • My iPad Air gets a error when I try to backup.   It does sync properly.  My iPhone backs up and syncs without isssue.  I am running latest itunes and iOS 8 versions.  Thank you.

My iPad Air gets an unknown error when I try to backup.   It does sync properly.  My iPhone backs up and syncs without isssue.  I am running latest itunes and iOS 8 versions.  Thank you.

Try rebooting your computer and reset the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.

  • Update/restore iPad Air 2 fails error 53

Hi, I attempted a restore after touch ID on my Air 2 failed with error and touch ID remained greyed out. Backed up iPad normally but restore fails on verifying with bar roughly halfway with error code 53

  • Ipad air wont message non iphones

As best as I can figure out, my new ipad will not send or receive messages via the Message app. It will accept phone calls from non iphones, it will send and receive messages from iphones. But if it is not an iphone or apple device, it appears it wont allow those type of contact.
What are your thoughts on that all? The Messages app on my Mac and my Iphone will accept from the Non Iphone folks...why would Apple decide the pads should be any different?
    Just no right...IMO
    Though love my Apples

    Hi decoratingplus,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the iPad is having trouble with SMS Messages. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

  • I keep getting an error message trying to setup my imap email accounts on my new ipad air. Says user name or password is incorrect but I know for a fact they are correctly entered. How do I correct this?

I keep getting an error message while trying to setup my imap Gmail and Aol  accounts on my new ipad air. The error says user name or password is incorrect but I know for a fact they are correctly entered. How do I correct this?

Hi Allan, thanks for that. I've already set up a log in for my wife and that is all working fine. The problem is that when she logs in and opens iTunes and trys to associate her library with her iTunes account she gets the error message "This computer is already associated with another iTunes account". Whilst this is true, the computer is associated with my iTunes account under my separate log in, which should have nothing to do with hers. If she transfers the association to her account it will lock me out of my content on my log in for 90 days - I'm trying to work out how to associate each of the log in accounts with a separate iTunes account so we can access our music independently of one another without locking each other out. Hope that makes sense!

  • Imap email error on iPad air

I keep getting an error message while trying to setup my imap Gmail and Aol  accounts on my new ipad air. The error says user name or password is incorrect but I know for a fact they are correctly entered. How do I correct this?

I just had this with a friends iPad mini, brand new out the box this happened.
The problem they had was that they had 2- Step Authorisation on their gmail account and the ipad isn't set up to recognise this feedback so it just fails. A browswer will return with a dialog box to enter the number that has been text to you.
You can do one of two things.
-- turn off 2 step verification. Not neccesary at all.
-- go to account settings, security , 2 step verification (not sure on that order) and then select add app specific password, give it an alias name so you know the device that it is for. You will be given a random 12 char string. enter that once and done.
Took 5 minutes. You will need a desktop browser , however, i don't think you can access settings this way on a mobile browser,
    Good luck

  • Messages and FaceTime just won't activate on my iPad Air all of a sudden; tried a LOT of solutions

About two weeks ago, my iPad Air was spontaneously signed out of Messages and FaceTime when I was using it to browse the web while on the bus, connected via Personal Hotspot on my iPhone. Since then, I haven’t been able to sign in to either Messages or FaceTime. I can still sign in to my iCloud account as normal for other things like contact and bookmark syncing. It’s just Messages and FaceTime that refuse to activate.
The error messages I receive vary between the following:
“An error occurred during activation. Try again."
“Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again."
“Verification failed - The connection to iCloud timed out."
“Unable to contact the iMessage server. Try again."
This iPad Air is a replacement from Apple (quite possibly a refurbished one) that I received in November 2014, after the previous model developed a malfunctioning touchscreen in one corner. It’s worth mentioning that my iPhone and Mac are completely unaffected by any issues, and can also be signed in and out of Messages and FaceTime without a hitch.
I’ve tried an awful lot of things in an attempt to get Messages and FaceTime to sign in successfully on the iPad Air, none of which have worked, and many of which I have tried multiple times.[1]
Things I have tried in an attempt to activate Messages and FaceTime
connecting to different wifi in multiple locations (work and home) and Personal Hotspot from iPhone
signing into Messages and FaceTime with different Apple IDs (these won’t activate Messages and FaceTime either)
    wiping iPad with normal restore
    wiping iPad with DFU restore
resetting network settings (both after fresh install and after backup restore)
restoring from an October 2014 backup (still have to sign into Messages and FaceTime, still don’t work)
turning off the automatic timezone setting and setting the date and time manually, even though it was correct anyway
deselecting phone number and @me.com so purely using @icloud.com to sign in
running the activation process through VPN connections via London and New York
changing DNS on wifi to 8.8.8.8
updating to iOS 8.2 beta 4
I would love to hear from anybody who can provide the solution as to why Messages and FaceTime just won’t activate. Apple won't provide free support on this as the iPad is now out of warranty.

  • IPad Air 32GB Wifi model, won't turn on, recover, restore, with error 4005 after trying to use facetime, switched off. :( HELP!

bought my mom a new iPad Air 32GB WiFi model via eBay and got it yesterday. It worked all fine and I even updated it to the latest iOS version. It worked all fine for the next few hours until I tried to have a facetime call using my iPad Air. Somehow within few seconds after the call being initialized, my moms iPad got switched off. I tried almost all the solutions I found via Apple community, google and other sites. None of them worked. ( Restore, Recovery, DFU Mode, Pressing Home and ON/OFF switch etc ) Somehow I managed to connect the iPad to itunes and when i press the restore button, I get error 4005 after 5 - 10 mins appearing 'waiting for iPad' message. I am in Sri Lanka and I have no Apple Stores here, or authorized service providers. since this isn't a fault of the ebay seller, cannot return it too. Please help me!

    Hi Tom,
Thank you very much for your time and trying to help me on this issue. I really appreciate it.
I went through those steps more than few time since yesterday ( saw you had posted this solution on a similar issue by another user )
still no luck. Now I cannot exit from DFU mode, or either restore it due to 4005 error. ( since its a new iPad, i only had few apps installed. so not going to loose much data as well ). I also try to exit DFU mode by using few third party apps such as Wondershare Dr.Fone, Phone Rescue, ReiBoot, RecBoot. Only wondershare Dr.Fone app showed me a screen with a message saying the iOS device is 'not in normale mode, press home + off/on button to switch to normal mode, which never worked either.
Really appreciate your help but I am open for more solutions other than Restore, Recovery Mode, DFU mode or any method to overcome error 4005. I would also like to know are there any softwares to diagnose the iPad Air to detect whats wrong with it. so that I can be sure if it is a hardware failure or firmware issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nimasha

Has your iPad at anytime been replaced? This seems to be a common aspect of the problem.

pairing the apple equipment is not a big deal just wanted to add songs from itunes wirelessly.
You can only add songs to your iOS device from iTunes via Wi-Fi sync or via your cable, not Bluetooth.

but i tried paring my LG bluetooth so i can listen to music on my computer wirelessly buy it gives me the same error message
That's an entirely different issue, unrelated to your iOS devices.

  • We just got 2 iPad air today and Set up both with the same Apple ID, now I'm getting messages and FaceTime for my 13 yr old daughter.  Do I have to create a different Apple ID for her?

We just got 2 iPad air today and Set up both with the same Apple ID, now I'm getting FaceTime and messages for my 12 yr. old.  Do I have to set up a separate Apple ID  for her to avoid this?

It's a trust issue. You can set them up so you don't receive each other's messages as long as you each have your own email address.
The trust issue is the fact that either of you can change the separation at any time via Settings by checking the appropriate (inappropriate?) email address.
To be absolutely sure you can never receive each other's messages will require two Apple IDs.

  • I can load my Numbers "My Templates" onto my ipad Air running ios 8 using iCloud, but when I try to do the same thing with my iphone 5s also running ios8, I get an error message and they do not load. What to do?

I am referring to the "My Templates" folder where I have designed my own specific templates. It loaded fine for iPad Air but confusingly, once it is on iCloud it does not seem to be accessible by my iPhone. So I tried the same process which entails finding the com.apple.numbers file and emailing the files; selecting them on iPhone then telling them to be opened by Numbers. Numbers will ask if you want them to be added to Templates. I said yes and after a brief attempt it returns the message that it cannot load the templates, an error occurred, but there is no reference as to what that error might be nor how to fix it.

To anyone who has viewed this post and is having similar difficulties, the answer came on a different forum: I dragged & dropped the files from Mail to iCloud Drive. Opened them on my MB Air, they were saved in Templates and are now accessible across all my devices.

  • I'm trying to download some purchased TV shows to my iPad Air.  I keep getting the dreaded Download Error Tap to Retry Message.  I've signed out of iTunes and back in.  I've updated my software.  I have plenty of room for them on the Air.  Help?

I'm trying to download some purchased TV shows to my iPad Air.  I keep getting the dreaded Download Error Tap to Retry Message.  I've signed out of iTunes and back in.  I've updated my software.  I have plenty of room for them on the Air.  We are taking a long flight this week, and I wanted to have something new to watch.  I've read through lots of threads on this but I can't seem to find a good solution that I haven't tried.
If I can get them to download them on my iMac computer, can I then transfer them to my iPad?  How is this done?  (Please pardon an older lady's ignorance, and thank you for any assistance!)

  • I have a new Ipad air. I have synced it to my PC before. This time I get an error message saying iTunes could not connect to the iPad because the device time out - what do I do?

I have a new Ipad air. I have synced it to my PC before. This time I get an error message saying iTunes could not connect to the iPad because the device time out - what do I do?

Quit iTunes, restart your computer, reset the iPad and try again.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
