Ipad air is spontaneously rebooting

My ipad air (128,Verizon) just reboots itself. This occurs when starting a new application but no specific app that I can determine. Any suggestions?

I have the very same problem with a few extra symptoms. Some times I can't get the screen to come on,and i have received a temperature warning message.
I can understand some of the old Apps causing an issue with crashing the OS, but the temperature warning is odd in that the Ipad was cool to the touch and I still received the message after it was on my night stand for 6 hours and it was very cold by that point. I tried the rest and restore. My next step is taking back for a replacement. There may be issues with heat with the increased speeds in a smaller package. I still love the Air . It's my first Ipad after all

That type of error could indicate a WiFi network problem. That type of error can usually be gotten around by simply turning off/on WiFi in the Control Panel or Settings. There may or may not be any problem with your iPad Air. It won't hurt to have it checked out. You could also test your iPad on some other WiFi networks to see if it has any problems there. If it doesn't you might want to take a closer look at your network.

  • IOS 8.02 update cause iPad Air to auto reboot while playing games and always 'No Sim installed' appears

I have updated my iPad 3 and iPad air to the latest update iOS 8.02 sinice a week ago. The iPad 3 is okay while the ipad air is having problems. Firstly it randomly auto reboots and apps auto shuts as well. Secondly the 'No Sim installed' always appears while using the iPad. Anyone having the same problem please advise how to solve these problems. Thanks.

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Do NOT use an iPod/iPhone charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know.  If the above test does, in fact, indicate a problem, read this.
    Also, according to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • My Ipad Air reboot all time. How can i fix this?

All time that I am using my Ipad Air, than he reboot unexpected.
Just using any app, as safari, pages, keynote, numbers and any other apps.
I do not know how can I fix this.
    Thank you all.

    Hi André_RJ,
It sounds like no matter what app you are using, your iPad Air restarts on its own. I would start by resetting the phone, with these steps:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
If the issue persists I would use the following article to backup your device to iTunes and restore it from your backup. If the issue persists, then restore it one more time as new using the same article to isolate to the backup file itself.
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Anyone have an iPad air that keeps spontaneously restarting? anyone have a fix?

My ipad air strated spontaneously restarting yesterday. Now it just cycles on and off and is completely unresponsive. The volume, power and home buttons don't respond. Eventually, it runs the battery down and stops, but as soon as I plug it in, it starts all over. Anyone else have this issue? Or a fix?

my ipad three is doing same after update to ios 7 no fix apple store said mine was bricked even though never had any third party software go get a replacement while still under warrenty

  • Does ipad air hang and need reboot often?

I found Ipad Air requires frequent reboot. Does any one else face this issue. I used Ipad 1, 4 but none had such issues in past

My iPad air does not restart or require a restart. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • Messages and FaceTime just won't activate on my iPad Air all of a sudden; tried a LOT of solutions

About two weeks ago, my iPad Air was spontaneously signed out of Messages and FaceTime when I was using it to browse the web while on the bus, connected via Personal Hotspot on my iPhone. Since then, I haven’t been able to sign in to either Messages or FaceTime. I can still sign in to my iCloud account as normal for other things like contact and bookmark syncing. It’s just Messages and FaceTime that refuse to activate.
The error messages I receive vary between the following:
“An error occurred during activation. Try again."
“Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again."
“Verification failed - The connection to iCloud timed out."
“Unable to contact the iMessage server. Try again."
This iPad Air is a replacement from Apple (quite possibly a refurbished one) that I received in November 2014, after the previous model developed a malfunctioning touchscreen in one corner. It’s worth mentioning that my iPhone and Mac are completely unaffected by any issues, and can also be signed in and out of Messages and FaceTime without a hitch.
I’ve tried an awful lot of things in an attempt to get Messages and FaceTime to sign in successfully on the iPad Air, none of which have worked, and many of which I have tried multiple times.[1]
Things I have tried in an attempt to activate Messages and FaceTime
connecting to different wifi in multiple locations (work and home) and Personal Hotspot from iPhone
signing into Messages and FaceTime with different Apple IDs (these won’t activate Messages and FaceTime either)
    wiping iPad with normal restore
    wiping iPad with DFU restore
resetting network settings (both after fresh install and after backup restore)
restoring from an October 2014 backup (still have to sign into Messages and FaceTime, still don’t work)
turning off the automatic timezone setting and setting the date and time manually, even though it was correct anyway
deselecting phone number and @me.com so purely using @icloud.com to sign in
running the activation process through VPN connections via London and New York
changing DNS on wifi to 8.8.8.8
updating to iOS 8.2 beta 4
I would love to hear from anybody who can provide the solution as to why Messages and FaceTime just won’t activate. Apple won't provide free support on this as the iPad is now out of warranty.

  • IPad Air Spontaneous Reboots?

While I love my new iPad Air, I've had a number of spontaneous reboots over the past month, and wondered whether anyone else was experiencing anything like this.  Tonight's most recent incident occurred less than six hours after performing a reset to factory defaults, then a restore from an iPad 3 backup, and happened when I clicked on a link in a spam email.  The link opened Safari, I saw it was spam, and immediately went back to Mail to delete it, which caused an immediate spontaneous reboot that only took 10-15 seconds to return me to the login screen.
I've had a couple of these situations over the past month, and had assumed some pre-iOS 7 app was burping, which would eventually resolve itself with app upgrades.  However, now I'm not so sure.  The situation slowly worsened until this morning, when it blew up.  Last night I played around with a new iOS 7 version of Flightradar24.  This is a cool app that tracks hundreds of flights world-wide dynamically updating a global 3D map with their movements and info from their flight transponders.  So, you can follow individual planes in flight, with their call sign, altitude, speed displayed from takeoff to landing.  Anyway, I followed a few flights for a couple of hours with the app, quit and went to bed, leaving Big Clock2 running on the screen overnight.  This morning, I quit the clock, and started up the Podcasts app to listen to a show during my workout, but Springboard's behavior seemed a bit odd, so I did a simple Restart to clear the RAM with the power button.  That didn't help, so I then tried a hard reset (power + home button) to also clear the caches, which also didn't help.  In fact, things got worse because I then couldn't even log in at the login screen because the swipe-to-login feature didn't work.  Another hard reset finally allowed me to login, but then Springboard was missing a bunch of folders holding over a hundred installed apps.  Settings showed the apps were still there, but they weren't being displayed.  It didn't occur to me to try the Settings/General/Reset All Settings option to potentially force Springboard to rebuild its display preferences for installed apps, so I proceeded with the full iTunes Reset to Factory Settings option instead, and spent the rest of the day tweaking everything to my preferences.
Since this isn't a pristine rebuild, but rather a reset to factory settings + restore from backup option, I can't really tell whether I simply have some corrupted setting from my backup doing bad things, or an iOS 7 software or iPad Air hardware issue.  So, I'm turning to the cohort of new iPad Air users for info.
So, have any of you new iPad Air users been experiencing occasional spontaneous reboots while using your iPad?  These are quick reboots, taking only a fraction of the time common with a full startup from shutdown or from a hard set reboot process.  It's too soon to query the Apple folks, since I can't force the behavior to show them.  But, it is worrying.  I don't really know whether I have a software or hardware issue yet.  I'm guessing software, but even in that case I don't know whether it's app related or iOS 7 related.

    Hi Dave,
Yes I have this on both my iPad Air and iPhone 5S.  Both started same day I received and restored them from iCloud.  My iPhone 5s was the first to be affected (as I received it first).  I spend numerous hours with Apple performing diagnostics.  We tried full firmware restores as well as a full replacement of hardware.  Eventually I gave up with them as it is a very long processes to restore everything every time .  I'm sure you are very familiar with that process.  It's only a 10-15seconds to reboot although it's not really a reset.  So I am waiting until they just fix it.
Now with my iPad it has since day one.  I set up my camera to record the problem because it seems completely random.
So with that you are not alone.  I'm not sure I have the patience to help on my on device as I think I've given them enough to move forward.  I asked my Apple engineer rep today for an update.
    I'll keep you posted.
    Thanks, Gary

  • Can not get my ipad air 2 to reset or reboot

I have an ipad air 2 that I believe is running IOS 8.1. I jailbroke it using Pangu. After not finding much need for a jailbroken devise I went to reset the ipad to factory settings. I backed up the devise to my macbook and followed the reset procedure going to settings, general, reset, and erase all content and settings. The ipad then restarted and it appeared to be doing it's thing. The ipad rebooted after a while and the apple logo appeared, then After about 2 hours the apple logo was still there and it seemed to be stuck.
I then plugged the ipad into my computer and opened itunes. itunes recognized the ipad and give me the option to set it up as a new devise or restore from back up. I choose to sset up as a new devise. The ipad then just displayed the apple logo for a few more hours, once again it seemed to be stuck. I preformed a hard reset on the ipad by holding the power and home buttons at the same time and reconected it to itunes. Now itunes does not even recognize the ipad when it is plugged into the computer. I reset the devise several times and it still will not get past the apple logo.
I then powered the ipad off and let it sit overnight while I searched online for a solution to this problem. the next day it appears that the battery had been completely drained because I was getting the low battery symbol when I was trying to turn the ipad back on. I then plugged it into my macbook and let the battery recharge for about an hour. I then tried to put the ipad in rocovery more and reset it from itunes, but now it looks like it is not going into recovery more. I have held down the home and power buttons while powering on in an attempt to put it into recovery mode and that does not seem to be working. I tried to do a recovery fix using redsn0w but that did not work either.
I would really like to be able to fix this thing on my own before sending it to apple. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how to fix it I am all ears. At this point I just want to reset it to factory settings. I do not care if I am able to recover any of the data that was on it. If anyone can help me get this things working I would be willing to send you some $$$ via Paypal for your time. Thanks

Jailbreaking violates the Apple warranty and licensing agreement and voids ALL support from Apple.  No one on here can help you as doing so is a violation of the Terms of Use of these Communities.  If you send the iPad to Apple they will just send it back to you as they are not permitted to work on a machine that has been jailbroken.

  • Having issues with iPad air.. It's constantly rebooting and giving me a blue screen. Anyone have a solution?

    iPad Air
    operating system ios8.1.3
I've had no success troubleshooting the problem I'm having with my iPad Air. Started after I updated the software to the new version . Once update was complete I encountered my screen looked funny with wiggly lines and then the screen turned blue. I tried to reboot it by holding down the home and the off at the same time but that only turned it off and then back on and the same thing happened all over again. Now my iPad air only continues to reboot when I turn it on. Is it possible for Apple or Mac products to get a virus? I'm hope someone has a solution to this problem I'd like to know if there's anyone else out there that's experiencing this issue with the iPad Air.

This is not a virus. It sounds like it could be a hardware problem.
First, try resetting your device. Press and hold both the home button and the sleep/wake button for about 10 seconds, until the screen turns off. Ignore the slider that will appear. Release the buttons, then press and hold the sleep/wake button until the Apple logo appears. This is the equivalent of a reboot, and should not affect your data or apps.
If that doesn't help, try restoring your device from backups, and if that doesn't help, restore it to factory settings (ie, do not restore a backup). See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
If none of that helps, the issue is caused by some kind of hardware problem, and the device will need to be repaired or (more likely) replaced.

  • I have a IPad Air and when I download a game from Big Fish games I can not open the game to play . I have tried everything- reboot , delete, start over . Is anyone else having this same problem?

I have a IPad Air and when I download any game from Big Fish the game will not open to play . I have tried everything to get the games to work - reboot, delete, restart my IPad everything. I can download games from other places like G5 games play fine. I have connected Big Fish and they told me that they tried the games I was having trouble with on a iPad air and the games play fine - don't get it . Can anyone HELP

    Hi, joannfrommontgomery.
Thank you for the question.  I would recommend going through the steps in the article below.  If the issue persists and your devices OS is up to date, I would recommend contacting the developer of the app.

I have a 64GB iPad Air WiFi+Cellular (Verizon), and I don't see the issues you are describing.  First I would suggest that you update your iPad to the newest iOS update.  If that doesn't help, then you may want to schedule an appointment at an Apple Genius Bar.  If you go this route, I suggest that you let the iPad sleep for long enough for the problem to arise before you go to your appointment.
