Ipad Air or Retina Ipad Mini for College?

Hello guys!
So, i'm in medical school and i'm seriously considering to buy an iPad.
I'll use it for entertainment like watching some movies or listen to some music, photos, games, but also for productivity, i'll use some apps related to medical contents and i want to take it for class too
Here's my dilema, i dont know if i should buy iPad mini with Retina display as it is more portable or iPad Air that may be better as the screen is bigger.
I'd like to spend 600 maximum, so if it was mini it would be the 64gb model, however if i choose iPad Air it would be 32gb model... What do you think? Is the 32gb model enough? Or should i buy the 64gb one?
Maybe i'll buy a stylus pen too (btw what do you think it is the best out there?)
What do you think?
Thank you guys!!!!! ^^

I find the mini too small and much prefer the larger iPad, but you may feel differently. I'd strongly suggest you visit an Apple Store or iPad dealer and try them out for yourself.
As to capacity that's a factor of what you'll keep on it. The storage can't be expanded, so buy as much as you can afford. It's always better to have more storage than you need than less. I've never gone beyond my 32GB's capacity and I have quite a bit of music, several movies, a few books, and a number of apps, but your mileage may vary, particularly if  your apps or textbooks contain a lot of graphics and hence are large.
As to stylii, check out the many reviews. None are perfect, but some are better than others. This one:

looks promising, though it will only work with apps that support it.
Regards.

  • What is better for college? An iPad air or an iPad mini with retina display?

    I'm currently a junior in high school and I'll be graduating in the summer of 2015. My parents, well mostly dad, are planning on buying me the iPad air with 128 GB of memory. I got curious and went to look at the price and compare models and I saw that the iPad mini with retina display was the same as the iPad air, the only difference is the size. Since I saw that it was cheaper I was thinking on telling my parents to buy me that instead of the iPad air because it is more costy and my family isn't really the rich kind of people. I will be only using the iPad for school and nothing else since I have my iPod to play games on and stuff so it will only be used for purely educational purposes. Plus I've been hearing around that the iPad air is not that great and stuff because it has a bigger screen and such. Personally for me, I do not care about the screen size I just care about the price for my parents' sake because I don't like it when they have to spend a lot of money. So can you please help me decide on which to get and why it would be better than the other? Please and thank you.

    Unless you are going to store many thousands of high resolution photos and LOTs of movies or videos, you don't need a 128GB storage. Save some $ and get a smaller capacity.

  • 16 GB ipad mini for college

    Hello,
    I'm considering getting a 16 GB ipad mini for college this year. My question is, would 16GB be enough? I plan on using the ipad mostly for note taking. Thanks!

    Hi,
    Because you'll be in college, I suggest you get as much space as is possible!!!
    The thing is, many, many people, once they start using an ipad and learn all they can use it for, end up needing more storage space on their ipads. And you cannot increase space. So go for the most you can afford.
    Our younger son is in college. He got a 64 gb, only thought he'd need only a  32 gb, and he's used more than the 32 gb in a matter of months. He can store text books, documents, etc., financial newspapers (required for classes) and more movies and music than he thought he'd need. (Videos will take up space quickly.) So he's very happy he got the 64 gb. And you actually start out with less than 16 gb because some space is used up by apps and programs that come pre-installed and are necessary for your ipad mini to work.
    If the cost is a strong consideration for you, take a look in the Apple Refurb store on Apple's website.Last year we bought two refurbished ipads from the Apple Refurb store on the Apple website. They are great!
    They come with new covers (front and back,)  a brand new battery, and a full one year warranty. Now with Apple care + ($99.00) you can get more coverage that will also cover accidental damage like broken glass and wet ipads (3 incidents of damage.) I think it's well worth it. PLEASE do not buy a refurb anywhere else!
    If you planned on buying a new 16 gb mini, it costs $279.00 In the refurb store. The refurbished 32 gb mini is $359.00 - twice the space and only $30.00 more than you planned to spend on a new 16 gb. A refurbed 64 gb will cost $110.00 more than a new 16 gb - four times as much space. They are only sold via the website and come in a brand new box.
    So if I were you, I'd go for the certified refurbished ipad from the Apple website. Please note that the different colors and sizes come and go in the refurb store, so when you see what you want, act on it. Delivery is fast.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT6052 Does ipad air have retina display?

    I keep seeing the ipad Air written as "iPad Air" and "iPad mini with retina display".  Does iPad Air not have retina display?

  • What are the differences between the Apple 64GB iPad Air with Retina Display and the Apple 64 iPad with Retina Display MD512LL/A 4th Generation

    what are the differences between the Apple 64GB iPad Air with Retina Display and the Apple 64 iPad with Retina Display MD512LL/A 4th Generation ?

    The iPad with retina display only comes in the 16GB version and it has the A6 processor which is a step down from the Air model. Having said that, I stream movies on my iPad 3 with retina and it has the A5 processor and the movies stream just fine as does everything else that I do on the internet.
    If 16GB is enough storage for you, the $100 savings compared to an iPad Air model is a fair amount of money and that might sway me if I was just worried about saving some money. However, that's not my style. I always go for the largest capacity that I can afford and the faster processor if I have the choice.
    Having said that, if it were me, I would select the 32 GB iPad Air. But in spite of the information that you provided in which you want to base your decision, only you can be the judge of what will be best for you, and remember that you cannot add storage capacity to the decide later. You can purchase external WiFi drives if you need the storage, but to me, that takes away from having the really small footprint and portability of only having to carry the iPad around gives you.

    i need one very urgently for my day to day work. Can anyone suggest from where I can get a new piece(boxed) on or before 11 March 2013? As this is already launched in India in Jan month, but still not available with retailers, might be because of less demand of this very product.
    Any help will be much appriciated.
    Waiting for some clue.

    The 3rd Generation iPad does not come in 128GB capacity, only 16, 32, and 64GB capacities.
    The 4th generation iPad does come in 128GB capacity.

    I have a new iPad Air and it is asking for my Passcode which I thought I knew , but it is not turning on with the code I tought I had entered?

    Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

  • IPad Air 2 VS iPad Air battery Observation

    Hello, just had an interesting discovery (at least it was to me!)
    Comparing the original USB chargers for both my iPad air and new iPad Air 2, I discovered that the wattage for the iPad Air 2 was 10W and the iPad Air is 12W.
    I found this to seem a little strange, so I looking into the batter specs on both models and found this:
    The iPad Air:
    Built-in 32.4-watt-hour rechargeable lithium-polymer battery
    The iPad Air 2:
    Built-in 27.3-watt-hour rechargeable lithium-polymer battery
    So... the battery is actually smaller in the new iPad Air 2??
    That's why it has a smaller watt USB charger?? Interesting!
    The iPad Air has great battery life... I know the new model is more efficient, and the battery life is supposed to be same most likely... But how much better would the Air 2 be with the larger battery?? Or did the larger battery have to be sacrificed to get the lower weight and slimmer size of the Air 2?
    No real question here, just an observation.

    Thanks Skydiver119, I've looked at all those settings - I allow nothing to run in the background, and turn off notifications for virtually everything.
    I think Skype is harder on the battery life of my Air 2 than my Air - maybe it's not optimized for the newer hardware, or maybe there are some OS updates that made it work less well. I went for a couple of weeks without using Skype at all, and my battery life was closer to what I expected it to be.
    My real point is that Apple made the Air 2 thinner than the Air for no good reason - the Air was wonderfully thin and light already. Taking away battery life for the sake of a thinner tablet is a waste. Especially when more and more competing tablets are offering better battery life (such as from Lenovo), Apple should care more about the experience of people using their product vs. being able to brag about a new product being thinner. Heck, improve the battery life and brag about THAT! :-)

  • Are the chargers for the iPad air and the iPad mini interchangeable?

    My wife has the IPad air and I have the iPad mini.  Are the chargers and cables interchangeable ?

    Yes, the cables are identical. As I recall, the Mini comes with the less powerful charger. You can use it to charge your Air but it will charge more slowly. You can use the Air's charger with either device.
    Best of luck.

  • Clicking magnets inside of iPad Air after using Smart Cover for some time

    I have read that many people experience clicking magnets inside of iPad Air after using Apple Smart Cover for some time.
    I experienced the same thing and returned the device to the shop where i bought it, while still having the warranty.
    They wrote me after 11 days of having my iPad that it is fixed and i can come for it, i was not yet there.
    Please tell me, how can i realize that they warranty serviced my iPad?
    I have read that many people get new device with same issue, and mine just got fixed somehow...
    It is not Apple Store it is Apple Premium Reseller, was their service OK or they just did not wanted to give me new device?
    How can i get to know they were acting correctly?
    Thanks for the answer

    Everything is OK, they gave my whole new iPad Air

  • Bought new iPad Air, but it keeps asking for my old Apple ID to complete the synch process

    I've just purchased an iPad Air. I had changed my Apple ID some time ago. I've updated my old iPad 2 with the new Apple ID and deleted the old Apple ID from the iCloud function. Now that I'm trying to synch the two, the iPad Air first asks me for my iCloud Sign In and that seems to work with the new Apple ID, but then in the next screen, after the ToCs, it asks me to choose a back up. I choose today's backup. The problem comes in the next screen when it says Enter the Apple ID password for [old Apple ID] to use for store purchases.  What do I do? Is there somewhere that I've missed signing off the old Apple ID? Please help. Thank you!

    Well, as it turns out, there's no need to delete your old Apps. Unfortunately, i did that, but accidentally left one or two with the old ID. What happens is that you just Skip the step. It then tells you that some things couldn't be restored. I've now restored it to yesterday's backup and there's not much that's not there - there are some PDF docs missing that I had sent to kindle app and that's annoying. And yes agree that one shouldn't even bother changing Apple ID ever!! What a hassle!
    Wish I had know that before.
    Thanks all!

  • IPad Air goes back to homepage for no reason why

    Why is my iPad Air gong back to home page for no reason how to cure please

    You could try resetting all settings but I really don't think that is going to work. It won't hurt anything and you will not lose any data, it just takes time to re-enter the device settings again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.
    If that fails, I think that I would be inclined to backup the iPad, restore the iOS, restore the backup and see how that goes.
    Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
    If that fails, you might want to think about restoring as new, but before you do that .... There have been a number of discussions about the iPad Air having low memory crashes. Do a search in the upper right portion of this site and enter iPad Air Low Memory Crashes and take a look at some of those discussions for more ideas.

  • HT4009 In-app purchases (non-consumable) cannot be transferred from Ipad 2 to Ipad Air. I tried this for an app called Calculator for iPad Free.

    On my iPad2 I made an in-app purchase to get rid of ads in an app called Calculator for iPad Free.
    The ads free version works great on my iPad2. When I bought an iPad Air I restored all aps and music from my iCloud.
    The app Calculator for iPad Free has reverted back to the version with ads. Attempts to restore from iCloud, iTunes and backups have all resulted in the version with ads.
    It appears that non-consumable in-app purchases cannot be transferred. To make matters worse, the in-app purchase price has doubled since I bought it in 2011.
    Good for Apple, not so good for the consumer.

    Problem solved. Just made the in-app purchase a second time and received a note indicating that I had already purchased this app and could download again for free.
    Unfortunately, no one at Apple Support knew that. Frustrating, but all is well now.
