IPad air randomly drops wifi

I have a new iPad wifi / cellular that is randomly dropping the wifi connection.  I'm lucky to stay connected for more than a couple of minutes.  After dropping it will not automatically reconnect, I need to go to settings and manually reconnect to wifi.  My older iPad runs fine on same network.  Heat do I need to do to correct problem and stay connected?  Same problem on multiple networks.

Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
You will have to re enter the Wi-Fi password.
If that doesn't help, try here >  iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

  • My iPad Air keeps dropping wifi

my iPad Air keeps dropping wifi, i have rebooted it, restarted it, and i have had no luck. help please.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

I plan to buy a refurbished iPad Air 32 Gig - Wifi. Any risks purchasing refurbished apple products?

Not a "must".  But think about it this way.  If you were to drop your iPad Air and crack the screen, without Apple Care plus, it would cost you $299.00 USD to replace it.  Apple Care is $99.00.  The incident cost (of which you receive 2) is $49.00 USD.  So it is a great way to protect your device.
Also, with apple care, you recieve free technical support over the phone for the 2 years of warranty.  The devices come with 90 days of free support.
It is up to you of course.

Mifi devices are usually quite small. Think Credit Card size, and maybe slightly thicker. So not really a big device you need to carry around.
In any case if you are still within the 14 day return period you may be able to return it to an Apple retail store. It needs to be an Apple Owned store, not sure Authorized Resellers will let you do it.
Other than that, bob points out, you may want to try to use the iPhone as a hotspot for the iPad.  If your Carrier supports it.  Like the Mifi device, the iPhone will share its cellular internet connection out to other devices over a Wireless network the iPad can use.

  • IPad randomly dropping wifi connection

I have seen quite a few posts regarding iPad dropping wifi connection. I have tried all the usual reboot router, updates, etc but the issue remains.
I need to keep switching wifi off then on again to re connect?
Does anyone have any better ideas than waiting for a bug fix?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the quick reply.
I have not had this issue outside of my home wifi so I suppose this points to a router issue.
When I read that others have had the same issue I presumed it was a bug.
"Updates" does mean router firmware updates.
I am using WPA2-PSK security but have tried WEP and WPA-PSK setting with the same result.
The router is a Netgear RangeMax model DG834PN
It is in g&b mode( whatever that means)
    I appreciate your comments.

  • Spinning wheel in App Store & Randomly dropping WiFi

    Hi there,
I'm having various problems with my iPad 2 16gb WiFi and searching various forums hasn't helped me find a resolution, so I'm hoping that someone here may have experienced the problem or maybe able to offer a solution.
I'm pretty new to Apple products, having recently moved to an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2 from similar devices with another well known brand of OS, so I'm not sure if something is wrong or if this is normal behaviour.
    Symptoms
When connected to WiFi and trying to browse the app store, I often get a 'spinning wheel' and nothing seems to load, I've even left the iPad for over 10 minutes and still nothing happens. I can try and search, look at featured apps, but I don't get a connection. The iPad is definitely connected to WiFi as I can browse in Safari without any issues. The only way I can get around this problem is to hold the power and home button down to reset the device, sometimes this takes 2 or 3 attempts. My iPhone4 doesn't have this problem and it's sat on the same wireless LAN as the iPAD. I've tried turning off WiFI and turning it back on, but that doesn't resolve the issue, a reset is the only way to gain access to the App store again.
Another strange problem I get is that the WiFi connection on the iPad will just randomly drop out, I'll happily be browsing away and it will just disconnect leaving me with no internet connection. It reconnects after a few minutes, but occasionally I have to reboot the device to get it to connect again. My iPhone4 and other devices don't suffer this problem.
I thought this might be an issue with my router, but I've reproduced this problem on 3 different wireless networks now all with different brands of routers.
I've tried restoring the device to factory settings, upgrading the firmware on my router, rebooting the router, tested on multiple wireless LANs and the problem just won't go away, it's getting quite frustrating really. It can happen after 5 minutes, or 5 hours, there doesn't seem to be any pattern to it.
Sorry for the long post, but if anyone has any suggestions or can offer any explanation as to why this is happening I'd greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks
    James

OK well I tried your suggestion in various ways...
I tried downgrading to WEP from WPA...
End result was the same problem.
I turned off security altogether and still got the same results, so it doesn't appear that the method of encryption has any effect on the behaviour.
Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help by the way

  • IPad 2 keeps dropping wifi signal

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help with a very frustrating problem.
I have an iPad 2, running iOS 6.1.2 (10B146). My home wifi network is provided by BT Infinity (I'm in the UK), via a BT Home Hub 3. Very frustratingly, my iPad is dropping my internet connection, frequently but seemingly randomly.
The wifi is stable for all other devices (iPhone and laptop), I never experience drop outs with either of those devices.
I've tried re-booting my router, but this hasn't helped. On my iPad I've tried Resetting Network Settings, but the problem persists.
When I lose my internet connection, I don't actually lose my wifi signal, the wifi icon remains in the top left corner, and the correct wifi network is still 'ticked' under my wifi settings. The only way to restore my internet connect is to turn my wifi off and on again, this solves the problem until the next disconnection.
It's driving me mad at the moment. My ipad appears to be fine when connecting to other wifi networks, which led me to think it's a problem with my router. But the fact my other devices are not dropping connection leads me to think it's a problem with the iPad.
In my wifi settings on the iPad I'm using DHCP, no HTTP proxy.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Hmm, the problem continues. Switching to Sky is starting to look more appealing!
How will changing ISP fix a wireless problem? There will still be the same number of interfering channels.
If you think the problem is related to the home hub, then simply add a separate cheap wireless access point, that is what other people do.
You can also use a different router if you wish.

  • IPad Air for the wife....Please Help.

Hiya. My wife had previously a Windows 8.1 laptop and its was so slow and complicated that we had to sell it. Now, i'm planning on buying her an iPad Air instead. These are the things i noticed what she was doing and what she would need from her "old" computer:
    1. Photos - When we had our holiday in Paris we had about (say in this instance) 300+ photos stored in our camera's SD card; photos are saved at 8MP resolution in normal/auto mode. Now i understand there is an SD card adaptor for the Air. My concerns for this because of the 1GB RAM uploading might take a while. And also where will the photos be stored? Can she easily edit the photo before uploading them to Facebook or Flickr?
Does she have to go to the app first then upload photos thru there?
    2. Documents - The bane of her life. She will be doing course work in the next 2 months which requires doing a long case study (essay). Now i understand there is MS Office for iPad. Can she create, edit, copy & paste (from one source to Word) documents as you would on a Windows computer? Is there any other good third-party or 1st-party Office/Word app that she can use that is user-friendly? And can she save those documents in .pdf or .doc format too?
    3. My wife has an Android phone and he has Gmail and files on Google Drive. I'm aware there are Google apps on the App Store. But the concern here is can she upload for example a saved CV in .doc or .pdf format to Google Drive from the iPad Air?
    4. I have a Macbook and sometimes i would like to send files from my Mac to her device for example a photo or .doc document.  Can i transfer such files to her iPad via bluetooth or any other easier/faster way?
    5. Wireless printing - There has been occasions that she wants to wirelessly print something to our wireless printer. Can she do that straight & on-the-fly via an app (or from within an app)? For example a train ticket or her CV.
    Please advice. Thank you.

I have been considering a Surface Pro 2 and a Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1.
I won't like to go back to a Windows computer because despite having far better specs than an iPad my experience with slow/long downloading & installing of updates and tedious/confusing OS (e.g. you have to "stop all processes" to make some background processes stop, confusing Metro UI & Desktop dual OS, etc.) i'm trying to avoid.
A Galaxy Tab Pro with far superior specs than an iPad Air seems a reasonable choice also. But i feel that there are more apps, better optimised apps in iOS than Android then i may also avoid it.
I'm thinking of getting a 64GB iPad Air which might be enough for her needs. I have mentioned previously what i have asked her what she would normally do with a computer/tablet. I have yet to find a refurbished 11-inch MBA in the Store.  Found some 13-inches but she doesn't need that big a screen.
I have no experience with Android tablets, so can't comment there.
As to refurbished MBAs, there's a couple right now in the US Store. http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/macbook_air/11

I would like to ask more about Photos. Do i need to upload them to the iPad first before i can do some basic editing? If say she wants to upload those photos in  Facebook can she do it via Photos or does she have to go to the Facebook app? Same procedure with uploading to Google Drive or OneDrive?
Yes they need to be on the iPad.   The Camera Connection Kit support only lets you preview the images from the memory card, camera, or USB drive. But you can't to anything with them until you import them to the iPad.
Also for files, which cannot be uploaded from a flash drive or external hard drive.  There are some Wireless drives that will allow you to access files on the drive through their own App and in turn transfer them to the Google Drive or OneDrive Apps for upload onto those services.

Yes. As I said you need the Office 365 subscription to get all the features. Without a suscription you only get limited editing capabilities.

Yes, and Yes.  Copy paste is not an issue from one app to another.
