IPad Air rear camera now working

My iPad Air read camera is not working. The front one works fine but when I switch to the rear camera I don't get a view and most of the time the app hangs. Is this a hardware or software fault? iPad has never been dropped.

What have you tried to fix it ? Have you tried closing the Camera app via the multitasking bar and seeing if it works when you re-open it ? Double-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag the Camera app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
If that doesn't fix it then you could try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

I have just had a replacement iPad as the camera stopped working.
Now the new iPad won't receive FaceTime calls at my aol.com email.
If I try to add it as a FaceTime address it just says email address already in use.
I guess it is still linked to the old iPad in some way
Any suggestions? The old I pad is wiped and back in the store

My iPad air back camera is not clear why.

    Hello Nina Izurin,
While written for the iPhone, the troubleshooting below can help resolve issues with your iPad's camera, as well.
Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • What are the differences between the iPhone 6  and the iPad Air 2 camera?

The title says it all. One of my daughters works at Apple Austin, Tx and she recently purchased the iPhone 6+. She is a wonderful photographer and has a lot of professional camera gear. I am a retired photog myself and after seeing some of her photographs I was blown away by the results from her cell phone camera.  That thing is more like a camera that happens to have a phone built in.
So, naturally I began to wonder what the differences are between the iPhone 6+ and the iPad Air 2 camera's. Interesteding question I think. For once I thought of posting a question here before spending a few hours looking up the answer myself. But, I will visit google next.

I Found the answer here.         http://www.imore.com/ipad-air-2-vs-iphone-6-camera-comparison

Yesterday I was able to take photos but around 9pm last night my rear camera stop working. I have reseted my phone and have also restored it and the camera still is not working. Also I have deleted all apps that can have access to the camera and i have updated the new IOS.What else should I do ? Is this a hardware problem?

Looks like a hardware issue that will have to be taken to a store

  • My ipad air touchscreen has stopped working to touch

My ipad air touchscreen has stopped working and so i can't shut down, or login. How can i resolve this?

Have you tried to give it a reset? Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 secones. If you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and see if your touchscreen is working.

  • IPad rear camera stopped working since IOS7 update

I updated the iPad to IOS7 as soon as the update became available, today was the first time I used the camera since the update and the camera no longer works. I am almost sure it is a software issue, the front camera will work but the camera app does seem to hang, it just produces a black screen when you go to use the main rear camera, if you quickly switch to the front camera that does work - you have to switch straight away though as the app just locks up and is unresponsive.
I have tried everything within my power, reset all settings, reinstalled from a backup, set up as new iPad after restore etc etc. I have also downloaded a few third party camera apps from the App Store, but still the same problem, black screen and absolutely no way the main camera will work.
There do seem to be other people with this issue, but not everyone. My iPad is a 32 Gig 4th Gen (A1458) and purchased in the UK November 2012. I'm no expert but maybe it's specific to part of the camera in my model and others affected. Or it's just a massive coincidence and it has developed a fault!
My iPad is in pristine condition and is only used around the house, the camera hasn't even been used to a great extent, which is even more annoying.
I just hope this is software related, I really don't want to part with it or exchange for an Apple 'refurbished' iPad - in the past I recieved a very substandard iPhone replacement which was eventualy resolved, but it was a great hassle. Our nearest Apple store is an 80 mile round trip.

So it would appear this has been an ongoing issue through the testing stages of IOS7 too and no fix for everyone:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1605642
Very annoying, and who's to say a replacement won't fix the problem anyway.

  • Front and rear cameras not working since i reformatted ipad mini. updated version. checked settings could not find how to activate camera. no icon appears.

i've searched and searched but could not find any answer why front and rear camera's aren't working.
i did a reformat because my id would not accept the password that i've been using. then after the reformat i could not see the icon anymore.
went to settings under photos and camera and could not find a button for the camera.
i do not have facetime. it's gone as well. what do i do?

Look under settings, general, restrictions and see if facetime and the camera have been turned off.

So I got the iPad 2 last Wednesday and tried facetime. It seemed to work then froze, but I gave up as it was still new and I was still figuring things out. Anyway i'd use the camera a few times (maybe 3) and made maybe 2 quick videos, nothing big. I never use the camera much. Today I went to videotape my nephew and clicked the camera screen, but it wouldnt leave the shutter screen. If i restore it to default, it works. But as soon as I sync my iPad up so it restores all my settings, the camera freezes. Obviously facetime and photobooth don't load either.
I think a few people have this issue, what was the resolution? if i take it to apple will they give me a new one on the spot or send it in for repairs, and im without it for a while?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
If when you restore the iPad to the factory settings the camera works, then there is nothing wrong with the iPad, you have something corrupt in the backup that you are using to restore your previous settings. I would delete the backup and start fresh. Go to iTunes/Preferences/Devices and delete any and all backups there for the iPad.
Then configure and sync the iPad as if it were new from the box for the first time.

Try this reset. Press & Hold the Sleep/Wake and the Home buttons simultaneously for 10+ seconds. Ignore the red power off slider.

Deleting my backups and starting fresh kinda *****. I'd rather not have to re-do all my settings like email and my apps. Its not that i have a lot of apps, maybe 5 or so I use, but still, its a bit of a pain. I guess I can TRY it... can't hurt right...
I dont want to just delete my backups though, i'll store them somewhere else (i think i remember where apple stores them) and copy them over later if i need to.
Worth a shot, better this then my iPhone which has a ton of apps I use for work. Im still setting the iPad up for my work stuff. Will let you know how i make out.
BTW the home/power reset didnt work, ive obviously tried this many times, and just now while writing this. Same issues.

  • Ipad Air not charging, now not even starting up

i have iPad air (first generation) slightly more than a year old (conveniently just out of warranty)
for the last few weeks or so, I've been having trouble charging the iPad.  sometimes it would charge normally, other times you would plug it in and it would show that it wasn't.  I tested with different power supplies, cables, and outlets, so i know they weren't the issue.  The only way i was able to get it charging again (and it was trial and error, no one way always worked reliably) was by, switching from the outlet to my computers USB port, (and then sometimes back again to the charger when that didn't work), and rebooting and then switching outlet. But it was very random.
At no point did I ever let the battery run all the way down... However, this morning it did before i realized and the iPad automatically powered down, and now I cannot get it to start without powering down again.  Whether plugged into an outlet or my USB port, I am stuck in a 'loop' - where i reboot the iPad (which used to work), it goes to the bright apple screen, then starts up to the home screen and shows 1% charge in the upper right - but doesn't indicate that its charging. Then i immediately get a message of "Low battery -  5% of battery remaining". Then the iPad automatically powers down after 30 seconds or so (or as soon as i try to do something with it). I get the screen showing the big battery with a little red, but it never charges to the point where it reboots on its own.  Then i reboot myself, and the cycle starts all over again.
I  have tried the method some have suggested elsewhere on this forum of "repeatedly rebooting" until i get a higher percentage of battery charge showing -- which hast worked so far.  But even if i did, how do i then get the thing to start charging normally?  It simply doesn't charge at all when its plugged in... ??
Is it simply a bad battery (after just a year)??   If so, does that mean they will install a new battery, or that i will have to trade in my personalized 1-year-old iPad for a 'refurbished' one??  Does this mean I will have to be without my iPad for any period of time- and that ill have to restore from backup (which could take over a day)?
Thanks for any and all help....

    thanks for the reply
i have since called apple phone support and brought it into the apple store
both ran battery diagnostics and said battery was fine:  phone support blamed a potentially faulty power port.  apple genius was convinced it was the third party USB/lightning cables i use from monoprice, which I've used for months and the two i am currently using are brand new.  he rushed me through and strongly suggested i buy an apple cable (my 2 original apple cables for this and my iPhone frayed within months and were unusable).
Strangely, it seems to be working now. Though the two monoprice power cables now only work on one side, and not if you flip it  (if i use them with my iPhone, it doesn't matter which side, so i still suspect something is funky with the port.  Its out of warranty by a couple of months, so if i have to replace it it will cost like $300 plus the time to ship it in repair it and send back (1-2 weeks).

  • IPad Air Broken Camera

Hi everyone, I'm new to this community. Nice to meet you all. My iPad Air Wifi Version 64GB Camera doesn't work. I have tried everthing like restart, soft reset, and even restore. The problem is the Camera lens seemed to be broken. When you enter Camera app, you will see the screen is black, and even if you capture the image, it is shown as black.  I was wondering if anyone had the same problem as me? I am thinking of return this back to Apple, but the problem is that I'm not sure whether they going to replace with the refurbished unit or repair the camera lens by changing it as I heared that Apple starts the repair since June.
Note: I just got my iPad Air and it is still under warrenty.
    Thanks.

Bought it in november. Today back camera wont work. Looks dark and takes dark photos too. When u try to switch to face camera, camera app freezes.  Problem also happens in other camera apps that I have downloaded. Anyone with help, advice or that may have a solution or that have taken ipad air to warranty, that can tell me their experience. Need to have this problem solved asap, first Ipad Ive ever bought and it works crappy. Please advice.

  • Rear camera stopped working after iOS 7.0.2 update on iPhone 5. Why?

I just bought my iPhone 5 two days ago and it was running iOS 6.1.3. Camera was working perfectly and just after the update, I took like 2 pictures, and at first when trying to take a picture, almost half of my screen was in pink. After few attempts it just showed a black screen and app just freezes. Not only on camera app, buy on other related photo apps. Really wanted to know what's happening.

    Hi there PompasJr,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
    Camera isn't functioning
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Third-party cases can interfere with the autofocus/exposure feature and the flash (iPhone 4 only); try removing the case if you have image-quality issues with photos.
After recording begins, you cannot readjust focus until you stop recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll. Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.

  • Buying from the USA an iPad Air. Will it work in Russia?

    Hello.
My friends are going to the USA, so I asked they to buy a iPad Air 64gb WiFi+4G. After one day I visited  Apple site and go to a purchase page. There, after choosing WiFi+Cellurar model, was the plate with a choice of the operators (AT&T, Version, T-Mobile, Sprint).
Will iPad 64gb WiFi+Cellurar from the USA work in the Russia?

A GSM model should, but there are other considerations. The warranty is good only in the US so if anything goes wrong, you would need to physically get it there to an Apple Store or retailer for service or replacement under warranty.

  • Rear camera stopped working after iOS 7.1.2 update- iPhone 5

My rear camera is not working after I did 7.1.2 software update this morning. I see a blank screen when I click the camera app.

So my camera was fine until yesterday and pressing on the lens did not work so I went back to looking for solutions:
    http://www.cydiaios7.com/back-camera-not-working-after-ios-7-update-solution.htm l
The article is from last year (IOS 7), but solution 1 worked for me. Here are all the solutions from the link:
    Solution 1
Hold the Sleep button until you see the Slide to Power Off slider
Slide it and then immediately hold down the Sleep button again until you see the Apple logo
    Solution 2
    Open your Settings app
    Tap General
    Tap Reset
    Tap Reset All Settings
While you won’t lose any of your data you will have to re-enter all of your passwords and personal settings again
    Solution 3
Hold the Sleep and Home button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears
Let go of both buttons at the same time and let your iOS device boot up as normal
    Solution 4
Try a different camera app instead of the stock one – downloadCamera Awesome, free of charge, from the App store
Install and both cameras should work properly.

  • IPad Air - Front Camera in Camera App

    Hi,
I just purchased the IPad Air as an upgrade from orginal IPad.
I have a question regarding the front facing camera when in the camerqa application. If you switch to the front camera in the app, you will notice the 'toolbar' remains on the same side of the actual front camera, weather you are in horzantal or vertical mode. The toolbar sits on the same side of the camera; thus when you go to take a picture your hand goes over the camera. Why is this??? and Can it not be changed?
Obviously, you could awarkwardly use your other hand but then it covers the screen.
The orginal Ipad didn't do this.. So why does the NEW model do it? Any help?
    Thanks,

    Thanks for the replies !!
I have flipped the ipad into all directions and for me the 'shutter' toolbar always remains on the same side of the camera. Nothing is rotating etc. The camera is on the right and the toolbar is on the right.
    @ JimHdk - I meant Ipad 2 sorry.
