IPad Air taking forever to charge!

My new iPad Air needed it's first big charge last night - was down to about 9% battery. I put it on charge at 11pm and at 7am this morning it had only reached 82%. Is this normal?

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Do NOT use an iPod/iPhone charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know.  If the above test does, in fact, indicate a problem, read this.
Also, according to Apple:
Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • IPad air is slow to charge the battery

My new iPad air is slow to charge the Battery? I am comparing it to an ipad2

    Try a different cable
Use the power adapter/charger that came with the device
Don't charge from a PC's USB ports as they likely do not supply enough current to adequately charge the iPad. Charging will be slow.
Don't use an iPhone's charger to charge the iPad. It's not recommended as it does not supply enough current and will charge *very* slowly.
Try to clean out the 30-pin/Lightning port on the device using a clean toothbrush (or similar) & blow it out. There may be dust/lint preventing proper electrical connection. The older 30-pin port is much more prone to dust & lint getting inside and it's internal conductors are very small. Clean the port out thoroughly and also the 30-pin connector on the cable.

  • I've just bought an iPad Air and when it charges it chews up enormous amounts of wifi.

i have just bought an iPad Air and when it charges it uses up huge amounts of wifi data nearly 1G.

Did you set your iPad to make iCloud backup?
Settings > iCloud > Backup > iCloud Backup: ON ?
Or did you synced purchases from iTunes/App/iBooks Store?

  • HT4972 syncing my ipad is taking forever, I let it go for 2 hrs and the green bar never moved from 3 ticks

syncing my ipad is taking forever, I let it go for 2 hrs and the green bar never moved from 3 ticks

I really hate to give you advice that could lead you down the wrong path. But .... If you enter this into a Google search ...."bypass backup when updating the iPad", you just might find something on cnet.com that would work for you.
My other thought is that the backup that was created today  - or the very last backup that you created (I think you said it was today) is corrupt. Having a corrupt backup can corrupt the backup process again ... If that makes any sense to you.
I have seen it recommended that you delete all but one backup from the iPad backups and then try again. That has worked for other users in the past. You know where you can find the backups - we discussed that earlier - and you could try deleting today's backup since you still have the backup from 7/28 to fall back on. I just have no way of knowing - and nobody does - if either of those backups is any good at all.
Deleting the backup - if successful - will not prevent iTunes from trying to backup the iPad again before you download the update - but it might correct the problem and let the backup go smoothly again.

  • Does the iPad air come with a charger

Do I need to purchase a wall charger for iPad air?

As stated in your duplicate, the iPad Air ships with a charger.

  • IPad Air and 4th gen charging question

Does the ipad 4th gen and iPad Air use the same charger. And can I use an iPhone 4s charger with a 30pin to lightning adapter to charge them?

The iPad chargers fudge the USB standard a tad by pumping 1 Amp of current across the cable to ensure a faster charging time. Nornally USB should only carry 0.5 Amp, which is what the iPhone charger pumps out and is why it shouldn't be used with the iPads.
Using the bigger iPad charger for all is fine: the iPad will charge as it should, the iPhone will sip less current and charge as usual. I don't even remember where I put the phone's brick; have two iPad bricks I use for everything.

  • My iPad air is taking FOREVER to charge?

My iPad was charging perfectly about two days ago and then all of a sudden it started taking AGES to charge. At first I thought it wasn't charging at all, then I realized that it was just taking SO long. The little charging symbol does not show up on the top of the screen but if I put it off, it does turn back on when I plug it in. I've tried restarting my iPad, changing chargers, airplane mode while charging, and pretty much anything else I could find on the internet. Last night I left it OFF while it was charging so it would charge faster, it went from 3% to 30%. So obviously it DOES charge but it took 9 HOURS for it to egg up 27%. This is getting really annoying and I've been needing it for school. I've also been I able to update it because the charge is too low. Any reason why or quick fixes?!

Here are a few things that may interfere with charging.
    1. Bad charger. Are you using the original Apple charger that came with the device? Try a different Apple charger.
    2. Bad cable. Try a different cable and be sure it is an Apple or certified name brand cable.
    3. Dirt, fuzz, or lint in the connection port. Check and carefully clean with a wooden toothpick if necessary.
    4. Software glitch. Reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.
    5. Hardware failure. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

I have also noticed that it suddenly turns off for no reason then will instantly turn back on.......  I

You may want to try this:
    1. Backup iPad
    2. Setup iPad as new. Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings
    3. Test iPad thoroughly
    4. If everything is fine, restore backup to iPad

  • My Ipad Air wont sync or charge thru laptop

My ipad air 7.0.4 wont connect to itunes( the latest one) or charge thru laptop

Could be a bad cable. Make sure the connector is fully seated.
The laptop doesn't provide enough USB power to charge. Use the charger that came with your iPad.

  • I have an iPad ,I bought two new cords that go to the charger, my iPad will take forever to charge, I have tried everything! Help! Please!

My cord that goes to my charger for my iPad broke, I bought two new ones, now my iPad takes forever to charge, will not charge at all if I'm using it. I have tried turning it off and trying to charge it that way,no good. I have to charge it 8 hours just to get a 30% charge! Help!  I miss my iPad ! Thank you!

Are you using an iPad charger and not an iPhone one? Using an iPhone one can be the reason for the slow charging
If you're using an iPad charger, have you tried to give your device a reset? Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds, until you see the silver apple and it reboots. See if that helps

  • HT4060 I have my Ipad Air connected to its charger and it is plugged in to an electrical outlet. The battery icon keeps going from green to white and a message comes up and says "This accesory may not be supported" ...I just purchased it on March 1, 2014

My iPad Air is not charging. I have it plugged into an electrical outlet with the charger it came with. The battery icon keeps changing from green to white and a message...Accesory May Not Be Supported keeps coming up on the screen. I just purchased it on March 1, 2014 and this is very annoying.

you are using the cable and charger that came with it?
you have charged successfully with them before?
you are under warranty, so I suggest you make an appointment with a genius at the Apple Store and have them look at it.  Sometimes the charger plug is faulty.

  • IPad Air drains battery while charging

I bought an iPad Air just a couple of days back. It's draining battery when being charged while I use internet or download an app with the screen on . I tried restorin but no luck...

Sounds like you're attempting to charge using a PC USB port.  They are notorious for not having sufficient power output.  Try charging with the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad.

  • HT4060 My iPad 2 is taking forever to charge. What is happening?

My iPad 2 is charging slowly. Why is that?

The ipad was completely dead when I got up Sunday. I used the charger that came with the iPad.
It seemed to be taking a long time to charge from 1 to 5 percent charged. I asked someone and they said that was just about right. When the charger is completely dead, it does take awhile to be completely charted. He also said I should let all my apple products completely use up their battery at least once a month. It'd better for the item.
