IPad Air won't turn on after opening the smart case

iPad Air won't turn on after opening the smart case cover, it does not do it all the time but enough to concern me

Take both the iPad and the Smart Cover back to where you bought them for an evaluation. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

    Did you try this?
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

It stopped turning on after I reset midway through an update because the update froze. As in, it stopped completely for four hours.

  • Ipad 3 won't turn on after ios 6 update

    Hi everyone,
I'm at a loss!  My Ipad 3 was working fine, and while fully charged I updated to ios 6.  Everything worked fine and I was thrilled.  While at work, I turned the Ipad off, and now it won't turn back on.  I've tried resetting, I've tried holding down the power and home buttons (repeatedly, and for long time periods), and I've tried to restore it using my itunes but my computer now doesn't recognize the device when I plug in the USB. but I never see any reaction by the device. No icons on the screen, no apple logo, no nothing... I updated itunes, still the same problem.  So, for the life of me, this fully charged relatively new working fine 64G Gen 3 Ipad just won't turn on.   Any additional ideas before I dare to go in the crowded apple store for assistance?
    Thanks, Hollie

    Try this...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...

If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the steps in this article to force the device into recovery mode.

  • Ipad Air won't turn on

We did an update on our Ipad Air.  I am not sure if the update completed.  The system now only goes to the Apple Icon, stays there for a few minutes, then shuts off.  It automatically will turn back on and get as far as the icon.  I tried a shutdown with on/off and home keys however, it continues to the same as bringing the Apple icon and then shutting down.

Try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears...if it will not restart from that procedure, you need to restore from recovery mode by following the instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • IPad Air won't turn on even after fully charging overnight and won't reset using the power and home button.

I have tried charging the ipad over night and no matter what I do it won't turn on. I did try plugging it into my computer and itunes recognized it once, but I wasn't able to restore it. Please help. It's only 3 months past warranty.

If you have owned the device, as in purchased from Apple, less than a year then there will be no charge to repair, or most likely, replace the device. If you have had the device more than a year you will be charged an out of warranty cost for replacement ($219 I think) and that is much cheaper than a new device. If you have Applecare+ then you have an additional year of coverage and the replacement will be $49 or $79 depending on when you got the Applecare.

  • Ipad 2 won't turn on after freezing and rebooting...

So this is what happened. I was playing "Lili" and halfway when I got to the second area after the begining of the game, the game started to act weird, the controls skipped and I couldn't control it well, so I pressed the home button and it froze. I tried to reboot the ipad and I did it by pressing the two buttons as only pressing the wake/sleep button did not work. It started up normaly but then I tried to play again, this time it did not pass from the first few images of the developer and it froze yet again. This time however when I pressed the reboot the apple icon showed very dimly then it disappeared followed by the battery empty icon, you'd think it would need to recharge but the thing is, the Ipad still had more than half battery when this happened. Do I have a brick? I tried charging it for more than 20 minutes but still nothing...

  • Updating iPad Air won't turn on. Help??!!

I LITERALLLY just bought an iPad Air and just finished setting it up and was informed that there was a new update for my iPad so went ahead with it. It looked like it was happily updating but now the screen is completely blank, it won't respond to holding the on/off button or both the on/off button and home button at the same time.
I've plugged it into my PC to try and restore it but iTunes is telling me that "The iPhone update server could not be contacted" with the options for OK or More Information; the latter of the two providing no help whatsoever. Without it connecting to iTunes or even turning on, I don't know how to reset it.
Any help for my brand new (now very expensive paperweight) iPad Air would be very much appreciated!
    Thanks.

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port. Do not release button until you see picture of iTunes and plug (very important)
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note: Data will be lost

  • MacBook Air won't turn on after repairing permissions

    Hi everyone!
I tried to update the software on my new MacBook Air; the updates started downloading and then it stopped because of a network problem. For some reason, my network wouldn't accept it so I thought *checking the permissions*; I asked for a repair, had the time briefly to see the long list of incompatibilities and then, bof, the Mac turned off, as simply as that. I did everything the Troubleshooting page suggested here:
+Press the control key, the command key, and the power button simultaneously and hold for three seconds to try to restart the computer.+
+Reset the PRAM. After pressing the power button, hold down these keys simultaneously: Command-Option-P-R, until you hear the startup chime at least one additional time after the initial startup chime.+
+On the MacBook Air, press (left) Shift-Control-Option along with the power button once. Note: You must use the keys on the left side of the MacBook Air keyboard.+
the only thing I can say is that at times I could hear the fan turning, but although I pressed the luminosity & sound buttons nothing changed.
    I wonder if it's a software problem.
I am frustrated as ****, especially as in my country I don't trust anybody to get close to it
    Any suggestions pleeeeeeease?
    Thank you!

    Hi Guys,
I'm having the same issue with my MBA. Basically, I press the power button, the SIL light flashes once for about 5 seconds, then goes off, then comes back on and I can hear the fans spin up (I have removed the back cover to confirm this). The screen stays black, the keyboard doesn't show any signs of life and the SIL light just sits there. I've tried the usual SMC, PRAM reset, all to no avail. Thought that maybe it could be a POST or boot ROM failure... Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mark J

  • New iPad Air won't turn on

I recently purchased a iPad Air (First Generation 16gb) from Amazon and it will not turn on. I have tried holding the home and sleep/power button at the same time for 10 seconds and on other attempts, more than 10 seconds. It is still not turning on. The screen shows no dead battery sign, it shows nothing at all. I have also tried plugging it into my computer, note that my computer and iTunes are both fully updated. Nothing is showing on my computer either. I have tried different power adapters and charging cables when charging but nothing is working. Although I can send it back for a refund, I thought I would see what other things I could possibly do before. Thanks!

If you connect the device to power for at least 30 minutes and then attempt to reset the device by holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together and it does not respond, I suggest that you return the device for a refund. It may require you holding the buttons for up to 30 seconds, but if that does not work, the device is not worth messing with.

  • Macbook Air won't turn on after SMC reset

    Hello,
The fan on my macbook air had suddenly started becoming very loud intermittently even with no apps running. I tried restarting the computer several times, but the problem persisted for about a week. Looking online, I found an SMC reset might solve the problem. However, after doing the reset, my Macbook now will not turn on at all. There is no startup chime or lights when pressing the startup button. The only thing that happens when I press the power button is that the light on the adapter turns from orange to green for second before turning back to orange.
I have an appointment with the Genius Bar tomorrow, but would like to seen if anyone has any suggestions. Thank You

    Try the SMC again:

    Then try a Safe Boot;

  • Won't Wake Up After Opening The Lid

This has been happening for awhile now (checked with my father in law, who has a macbook pro, and he says the same thing happens to his): I close the lid, it goes to sleep. When I open the lid again, half the time it'll wake up, and half the time it won't (even pressing buttons, etc). I'll have to hold down the power button to turn it off, then press it again to turn it on and start up from scratch, losing whatever I was working on. There's seemingly no rhyme or reason to it...but it happens about half the time. The other thing I notice, when this happens, is that the "sleep" light (that is usually flashing when it's sleeping normally) turns on solid when I close the lid rather than flashing, and turns off when I open it.
Anyone else have this problem? Any way to fix it? I have the newest firmware.

I cannot solve your problem but I did have the same problem which has now evolved into my computer NEVER going to sleep and my bluetooth does not work I have tried all the advice I can find and nothing works. Of course my waranty expired four months ago so now I will have to come up with the money to fix it if I want this resovled. If your warenty is still good I suggest having someone look at it before it evloves into a bigger problem.

  • Screen turns black after opening the notebook. It will reappear after i turn the brightness button down.

The screen turns black after the book has been closed and is now opened. sometimes it does this, sometimes it does not. If i turn down the screen brightness by using the brightness keys at the top left of the key pad, then the screen will reappear.

  • My fully charged macbook air won't turn on after a forced shut down??

last night i forced my MBA to shut down because it kept automatically shutting down and restarting by itself. after that, i tried to turn it back on and nothing worked. i tried all those tricks by pressing different keys to turn it back on but none of that worked. i only got this computer like 2 months ago so im pretty annoyed right now.

A two month old MBA is under warranty.  An appointment at an Apple store genius bar will put your Air back in operation.

  • My MacBook Air won't turn on after it fell from 1ft high.

My MacBook Air fell about a foot and got a little wet on the back behind the screen. I don't think that's the problem but I'm not sure. I wiped it off and tried to turn it on but it won't come on. I can hear the fan and other noises but the screen doesn't show any sign of life. What can I do? I live in Belize and the closest apple store is in Florida.

I can pretty much guarantee you that dropping a computer from about one foot as well as getting it wet would void any warranty you might have.  Warranties generally protect against manufacturing defects, not actions caused by users.
I'll leave it to hardware folks to discuss PRAM and other stuff - I'm more of a software / programming person.  But my view is whatever measures may or may not temporarily work, once the poor machine has suffered these fates, it will never reliably work again.
