IPad Airport Utility - Password problems

My network consists of a Time Capsule with two AirPort Express (extend a network wireless mode) - these were purchased new within the last 6 months - and the network works well. I am able to view the network, plus the 2 AEs and TC, using the iPad Airport Utility - I was able to enter my password on one of the AE units, and can see all of the relevant information for that unit. I have tried many times now to enter the device passwords for the TC and other AE, but thesse are simply not accepted - I'm certain that passwords being entered are correct.
Another odd issue - both AEs extend the wireless network wirelessly, that is they are not wired to the TC - one AE shows the correct dotted line while the other shows a solid line (I gather indicating a hard wiring).
Any advice would be most appreciated.

No - just off line at work.  It seems to occur when I go out of coverage of the home wifi and then back when it won't log on automatically.  I have a BlackBerry which manages just fine to recognise the home wifi and log on.  It works when unsecurred but obviously I don't want that.  I am using WEP at home.
I seem to recall my iMac did this for a while then randomly stopped.

is there a capability to save/export the new airport 2TB time capsule settings file when using the iphone/ipad airport utility. set-up wasn't a problem but the "file" button does not exist on the latest airport utility app v6.3 to save the configuration file.

the "file" button does not exist on the latest airport utility app v6.3 to save the configuration file.
Sounds like you are a bit confused with version numbers.
Latest AirPort Utility version for the iPhone / iPad is 1.3.3.  There is no option or capability to export/import settings on the iOS version(s) of AirPort Utility.....although you could take a series of screen shots and save them for future reference.
AirPort Utility 6.3.x is found on a Mac.....not on iPhone / iPad. Export and Import options are found under the File menu in 6.3.x.

  • TA48312 ipad 2 wifi password problem

i have problem with my apple ipad 2 wifi password ...i use itunes latest and win xp 2   HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP ME

I too have had this problem with both iPhone and iPad dropping my wifi network and now neither are able to join the network again. This has only occurred since the last iOs update. had problems with them dropping the network in the middle of something, but was usually able to reconnect after powerdown and reboot, now neither will reconnect.
Apple support says it's my router and modem, or my password is wrong. Nope, not those as my wii, desktop and roomie's laptop all connect just fine. The devices see the network, but are unable to join.
I am thinking this is a software/iOS issue.

  • Airport Express password problem ?

I SET UP A WIRELESS NETWORK FROM MY MAC PRO WITH AN AIRPORT EXTREME BUT WHEN I TRY TO ACCESS THE NETWORK FROM MY ITOUCH, I GET AN "INCORRECT PASSWORD" ERROR EVEN THOUGH PASSWORD IS CORRECT ??

    Hi Alex,
    any chance that the password (WPA or WPA2 I assume) contains special keys/characters like * / and/or also international ones like ä ü ö ß ?
These can be troublesome with using different operating systems.
Such characters can be coded differently on different operating systems like OSX or Windows so that the pass-phrase isn't compatible anymore.
Since the PSK is stored in the router, using such a PSK with different operating systems can lead to a scenario where you can connect to the router with OSX but not with Windows, for example.
I personally avoid such special characters and instead use the full length of the PSK and mix numbers and upper/lower characters.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Airport utility can't connect to Airport express station

My AirPort utility has problems to connect to my AirPort Express station (old model a/b/g; old firmware 6.1).
First problem was, that it could not read the configuration. After a factory rest like described here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044 the utility comes one step further and asks me for a password: I tried "public" several times, but it asks me over and over again for a password. What i my problem?

Problem solved: I downgraded the AirPort utility to 5.0. Then I was able to access the AirPort Express station. Upgraded the firmware to 6.3. Then the station was recignized by AirPort utility 5.3.1 again. Connected it to the AirPort Extreme as AirTunes-station. Works perfectly.

  • AirPort Utility says no devices found, but 2 are hooked up and running

When I AirPort Utility I'm getting the message "AirPort Utility was unable to find any AirPort wireless devices. Make sure the AirPort wireless device you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then click rescan to try again."
What's odd is my Mac Mini is logged into my AirPort Extreme, and I tested my AirPort Express, and it is working also. Why is AirPort Utility having problems seeing these two devices that are up and functioning properly?

Could this be a PC/Mac firewall application issue? i.e. TCP 5009 for the AirPort Admin Utility port.

  • Airport Utility Error

Howdy, I am trying to set up a Airport base station router. The router shows up on airport utility no problem. But when i click on continue or manual setup i get this error "an error occurred while trying to access the apple wireless device. make sure your network connection is valid and try again". at the bottom left it says "error -6753". Anyone seen anything like this before? Since the airport shows up on utility it makes me think it's obviously working just won't let me configure it to my router.
    Thanks,Jason

Sure, I don't remember the exact method on a PC, but on my old XP, I believe it was Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs to uninstall.
You can download AirPort Utility for Windows from the Downloads section on the main forum page, or use this link.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL954
Before you uninstall and reinstall, you might want to try checking the Windows Firewall. That and/or the anti-virus program was always trying to block a new connection whenever I used Windows. See if you can list AirPort Utility as a "exception" or "allowed" application.
If still no luck, you really need to re-post in the AirPort for Windows Forum. The PC guys all hang out over there.

  • HT1998 My iPAD can use the internet through my airport extreme, but the airport utility does not see it so I can't create a guest password.  What am I doing wrong?

My iPAD can use the internet through my Airport Extreme, but the Airport Utility does not see the device so I can't set a guest password.

If your Mac is using the Lion operating system with recent updates, it will be necessary to download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6
Select the AirPort Extreme and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab just below the row of icons
Click the Wireless Network Options button
Remove the check mark next to Create a closed network
Click Done, then click Update to save the new settings and allow 25-30 seconds for the AirPort Extreme to restart

  • Ipad 4, 3 feet from my Airport Extreme. Airport Utility doesn't see anything, yet I am connected to the internet. What is the problem?

I am not pleased with the wireless connection in my house, as wireless access points of my neighbors is stronger than my Airport Extreme. It is physically the closest access point for my Ipad, my wife's Ipad and my Macbook Pro. I wanted to check the channel setting by using Airport Utility, and even though there is confirmation of internet access (posting this from my Ipad), it cannot find any Airport base station. Anyone have any idea why? Any help would be appreciated.

Apparently the problem is with the app on my Ipad. Airport Utility on my Macbook found both the Extreme and Express. Appears an app update is in order.

  • Airport Util. Password Problems

I just upgraded printer drivers for my old Brother printer. Previous to the upgrade, I was able to print wirelessly via my AEBS using this same printer. Right or wrong, I deleted the old references to the printer in the "system preferences" > "fax & print". The users guide instructs me to create a new network in order to set up wireless printing. However, when attempting to do so, a password is required and the one I use doesn't work. I'm using the one identified in the keychain app for the airport network. Is there a difference in the network password and AEBS password?

That doesn't sound right. That printer should be able to join an existing network.
However, when attempting to do so, a password is required and the one I use doesn't work.
Just what are you doing then you're prompted for a password?
Is there a difference in the network password and AEBS password?
If you're trying to connect to a network you should use the network password. The AEBS password is for use in AirPort Utility to administer the AEBS.

  • Airport Utility for iOS exposes Time Capsule passwords, and KEEPS them exposed!

The new iOS version of Airport Utility is nice, but there is one troubling issue.
The first time you attempt to gain information on a given network it requires you to enter the Time Capsule's password.  Once you have done this, you can drill down and it will show the devices various passwords in plain text -- the network, guest network, and the base station's passwords.
While it could be helpful to be able to recover the passwords stored in the Time Capsule device, the problem is that once I have entered the Time Capsule's password into iOS's Airport Utility, it seem to remember it forever.  That means that someone could later run the Airport Utility on my iPad and view the Time Capsule's passwords.  That's a major security issue in my book.
So, I think, if I delete the Airport Utility from the iPad and re-download it, it should have deleted all its data and no longer remember the Time Capsule's password, and so should not be able to expose the device's internal passwords.  But no -- I re-install the iOS Airport Utility and when it accesses the original network, it no longer asks for the Time Capsule's password and will still expose the devices passwords.
    Questions:
    1) Where is it storing the Time Capsule device's password?
    2) How do I remove that password from iOS so the security hole goes away?

Yes, clearly a problem.  I'm in a situation where I have restricted access to my kids to certain hours.  They're not idiots and have found the way to re-enable access via the iMac in the house in the past.  Since this discovering, I have place password security on the AEBS.  What appeared to be the solution until the iOS version now exposes the passwords.  Fortunately they haven't bothered to identify this app on our iPad and/or haven't bothered to drill down into the details to see the 'show passwords' feature.  Simply put, whenever this app starts, enforce credentials for the AEBS like they do on the iMac.

  • Airport Utility for iOS on iPad

Although my Airport Extreme and two bridged AP Expresses are oerating properly, Airport Utility for iOS on any network connected iPads cannot locate any of the Airport devices. The same version of Airport Utility works properly on any iPhones on the network and the Mac version also works.
I've tried removing, downloading, and re-installing the utility from the iTunes App Store, but the iPads still cannot locate any of the three devices. All it can find is "Internet". I've tried on iPad 2, iPad Mini, iPad Mini 3 and none of them can see the Airport devices. On the other hand, I've tried the utility on iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, and iPhone 6 (all iOS devices running iOS 8.2), and the iPhones can all see the Airport devices
The symptoms are pretty consistent and reproducible. In the past 4 to 6 months, Airport Utiity did work properly on iPad. I'm not certain which version of the app and iOS were current when it worked, because I don't frequently use the app, unless I have network revisions done on my Mac and need to check results later. Tonight, I did use it because I have a malfunctioning IP camera. I scanned the network with a third party network scanner/sniffer on iPad and it confirms that the network is intact.
Basically, it's not iPad specifically, but it appears to be the Airport Utility running on iPad only, that has a problem locating the Airport devices. It seems to be a bug in the Airport Utility for iOS, as used with iPad. Has anyone else observed this?

I have never seen it either.. I have no problem with the ipad to discover any airports in my network.. and there are loads of them.. nor seen people reporting it as an issue.. but you have sure got something interesting happening.. what version Extreme is it?? Do you have something unusual in the setup?
If you are really brave or foolhardy.. save the existing setup.. and reset the main extreme to factory and redo the setup from the ipad.. I am pretty sure it will work as long as it gets first bite at the apple. (no pun intended).
Keep all names short, no spaces and pure alphanumerics.. same for passwords but can be longer.. ie names <10 is good.. passwords 8-20 characters. Mixed case and numbers.
I do notice that Airport Utility in ipad does behave differently (only slightly but it is there) cf the iphone. Some functions are missing in the phone version.. so I guess with the bigger screen the utility adjusts to how it works.

  • Airport Utility won't accept password, though it's the same that I'm using for my wi-fi access.

    Hello,
First-time asker, multi-time reader. Could not find this situation exactly in other posts.
I’m having trouble accessing two different Airports.
I have an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11n (4th generation) handling the wi-fi for 3 laptops and 2 iPhones, but I needed to extend the range within the home one room so I got a Airport Express.
It’s showing up in the Airport Utility when I try to set it up, but each time I try it asks me to “enter the password for the selected airport wireless device.”
I type in the password I use when I need to access the wifi (the “WEP” password I guess?), but it’s never accepted. I’ve tried this on 3 of the Macs.
After reading some relevant comments here, I confirmed this as the “Airport network password” with the Keychain on 2 Macs. My Keychain does not show a “Base station password” at all.
I typed it in on 3 different keyboards, no caps lock, etc.
I’ve tied adding “$” and using “public,” to no avail.
I’m assuming that the password it’s asking for is the same password same as WEP password, the one that’s used when a friend visits and wants to use my wi-fi instead of 3G. It’s my network password. Is that right? Or is there some other password needed? My Keychain does not show a “Base station password” at all.
It does this for the existing Extreme as well as the Express.
It asks for the password whether I try to update the firmware as directed (7.4.2 to 7.6.1 for the Express, 7.5.1 to 7.6.1 for the Extreme), or if I click “Manual” to set up the Express.
Same thing happens using the Apple Airport Utility App on my iPhone.
I did the factory res-et thing on the Express, and it showed up with a generic name described as “with factory-default settings” so then I clicked Continue. This brought up the box saying “Are you sure you want to switch wireless networks? Setting up this AirPort wireless device requires switching wireless networks. Switching wireless networks may interrupt your connection to the Internet.”
I don’t want to switch, I want to add the Express to the existing Extreme network, so I’m (ignorantly) hesitant to say yes. Besides, it will probably just ask for a password, so I’m back to square one.
I’m mainly working on a Second Gen MacBookAir (3,2), Intel Core 2 Duo with AirPort Extreme  (0x14E4, 0xD1), Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.131.42.4) 802.11 a/b/g/n. But this situation is the same on multiple Macs and iPhones.
All my devices work fine on w-fi, but none can access the Airports using the password as mentioned above with the goal of updating firmware and setting up the Express.
So anyone have any suggestions for this issue the password problem?
    Just Wonderin.
    Thanks so much.

    Jaime...
    Open Keychain Access   /Applications/Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
type    base station   in the search field top right corner of the window.
Right or control click the base station keychain then click Get Info
    Select the Attributes tab.
    Click: Show Password
Now, you can use that password or set up one of your own. If you want to create a new password right or control click the current base station keychain then click Delete.
    Now open Airport Utility  /Applications/Utilities
Select the base station on the left.
Click Manual Setup then select AirPort from the menu then select the Wireless tab
Type in a new password, then type it in again to verify.
Then select:  Remember this password in my keychain
    Then click Update.
If at some point you forget the password for your wireless network just follow the instructions for Keychain Access above.

  • I can not log on to my itunes account on my second generation ipod but I have no problem with the log on with my ipad.  The password doesn't work on the ipod touch.  Thoughts???

Trouble connecting to itunes store with my password on my ipod touch (2nd generation) but using the same apple id and password on my ipad2 I don't have a problem connecting to the store.
    Need troubleshooting

I have the same thing, same issues.  Just came from Colorado using my iPad extensively with no problems.
Get back home, there is an update on my home computer for Airport Extreme to 7.5.2 which I updated.  Also updates for iPad for 4.3.4 and now last night 4.3.5.
Still does not work.  I have not taken the iPad to another network locally, but my understanding is that it is not a problem with the iPad but with Airport Extreme's update. I have done all the resets, restarts, and turning on and off Wifi on the iPad and that does not work.
I would have to assume Apple is working on it.  Very frustrating since I am on my Mac Pro, iPhone 4, and other things and no problem.

  • Since I upgraded to Lion 10.7.2, my external HD is no longer visible in AirPort utility (in the AirPort disks tab). I also installed the AirPort utility for iOS5, it reported a disk problem, but running Disk Utility on the Mac showed no issues. Help!

To expand on the question, I have performed the following steps:
1 - Unplugged external drive (1TB WD MyBook) from the Time Capsule
2 - Reconnected it. At this point, AirPort utility for iOS5 reported a problem with the disk (Time Capsule light was blinking Orange)
3 - Unplugged external drive, connected it to MacBook Pro, ran Disk Utility. It found no problems (disk visible straight away on the MacBook Pro).
4 - Reconnected to Time Capsule - still doesn't show up under the "Disks" option under Air Port utility. Or rather, the hardware is visible (i.e the physical disk) but not the volume.
5 - I tried another external hard drive, and the volume also doesn't appear in the Disk section under the AirPort utility.
The WD disk is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
This is a big problem for me, as the drive houses my iTunes library.
Anyone else had a similar problem? It all worked flawlessly until last week.

    I love computers.
Have managed to fix this already. Been working the issue for a few days now, and a few minutes after writing the above post I decided to reset the Time Capsule to factory default settings.
After entering all my details again (used same network names, passwords etc) the Time Capsule was rebooted. When it came back on line - guess what? Yep, the MyBook WD drive is now visibile. I can connect via the network from my other machines to the drive, and iTunes is back.
So - thought I would post my resolution in case it helps others.
