Ipad airs crashing

Question

We have 2 ipad airs both with up to date IOS.
Over the last few months we are seeing about 1-3 crashes (I.e screen goes black with apple logo and then you get lock screen) a week.  Haven't been able to track it down to any app being used at the time.  Both iPads whilst having GSM capabilities are only used on wi-fi.  Neither are more than 60% full.  One is using a configuration that has been moved from the first ipad to the current Air and the other is using a configuration created on the ipad air.
We have owned every version of the ipad and cannot remember any of the previous versions crashing.
Just now both iPads crashed at the same time and in the same way.  Each was in a different app.  On same private wifi network.  Both in landscape mode.  When they crashed the screens went blue from right to left and then black with the apple logo.  First time either of us have seen the blue screen (ok time for all the mart BSOD jokes ).
Anyone got any ideas what might be causing this or have seen this type of issue?  Any solutions?
