IPad all of a sudden wants activating

I have an iPad 3 with cellular (but not being used) and it has been working absolutely perfectly until today all of a sudden it asks to be activated...yet it won't activate, displaying the we're sorry we cannot activate at this time rubbish.
I have tried activation on wifi and through a laptop but neither works. It is running on iOS8.1 I think so I am trying to upgrade it to the latest version but it seems to not want to do that either. I have also tried a hard reset but nothing seems to work!! What else can I do apart from taking it into a store which is a pain in the ****.
I bought this iPad without a contract so it has never been locked to a provider, jailbroken or the like so honestly have no idea what is causing this.
The only change in the past few weeks is I got a data sim with my new contract (O2) and had it in the iPad for a couple weeks although it wasn't working so I put the iPad in flight mode to stop it from searching constantly, could that affect it?

I Understand that you shouldn't have to activate again, just like anybody that has an iPad that for no good reason at all goes into recovery mode shouldn't have to deal with that either, However it happens and when it does, you have to find a way to get your device running again.
I Do not have a cellular iPad but if this occurred when you put the SIM card in, I would remove the card and try it that way. If you were using WiFi, I assumed that you turned off Airplane mode so you need to turn that off as well.

Three possibilities - bad cable, charger or the iPad/battery. Since iPad not recognized, I suspect the cable. Make sure the cable is fully connected.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
And this - Unplug the charger from the iPad and then replug. May resume charging.

Why I cannot purchase or update apps for my new iPad all of a sudden? I have internet access.

When I tried to update apps they are stuck with "waiting..." and I cannot access those apps anymore. I have Internet access all this time.
What is going wrong, will I lose data for the apps.
Thanks for any help or insights.

Restart the iPad (hold the Home and Sleep buttons until the Apple logo appears.
This sometimes happens if the download of the updates gets interrupted.
If that doesn't work, downalod the updates via iTunes, and sync the iPad to iTunes.
In either case, you don't lose the app data

Why does dvd studio Pro all of a sudden want my serial number?

Using DVDSP 4.2.1. This has been stable on my Mac Pro for many years now. The file importer got confused somehow and even Activity Monitor had trouble force quitting.
I repaired permissions and rebooted and all seemed fine. Now about every 3 or 4 times I start DVDSP it'a asking for me to put in my identifying info, including the SN.. I've got the SN, but I don't feel all warm and fuzzy about this. Does anyone know what has happened and how I can be sure things are not going to lock me out when I need to keep going on a project?

I have had this problem occur rather often. Not sure which OS you are running. A couple of things, after entering the number, close it out and open the older version of Motion (the one from the Studio and install discs, not the new one if you purchased through app store.)
Then either launch DVD Studio Pro via going into the App Folder and open a project that way OR close out DVD SP and click a DVD SP project to open it. Yeah, it sounds weird. On one of my computers following one of those seems to have cut down the asking for a serial number a lot, while on another computer the second version seems to work. I have not tracked down where the problem came from yet, but I had the same thing - stable for years. And I do not recall even doing any updates because once I have computers working, I leave them alone unless needed. I am guessing I probably loaded a driver or something.....

To change the store ....
Settings>iTunes and App Stores>Apple ID
Tap your ID
Tap View Apple ID
Enter your password
Go to country/region in the popup window to change the store

TS3899 I can't see messages all of a sudden in my inbox when I connect via gmail but ok from message icon in my ipad

I have a problem. I was happily deleting and moving some emails from my Inbox on my ipad when all of a sudden, the messages just disappeared!!! When I tried to get to that page again, the address reads"mail.google.com/mail/mu/mp/12#tl/Inbox. So from Inbox down to All mail, the message just says"no offline messages" However, I still have messages in the business plan, travel etc boxes. I can view my inbox messages via the message icon in my iPad.
I went to see an Apple store, I am based in Patong, Phuket, Thailand, where I bought it sometime in November last year. The technician could see the messages in my inbox from his Mac via direct connection through gmail whereas I couldn't. As there is a language problem and I am an IT virgin, it all sounds double Dutch to me when he tried to say something about my server, and I had to take it down to an authorized apple service provider in town. I don't really want to do it unless it is the last resort as I have only my iPad, and I am sure it will take at least a week to be sorted out. Would greatly appreciate any help.

Messages should work with the email address that you use for your Apple ID. You have to be signed into that email address in order for any other email address that you have added to work.
You should add your iPhone number to your Apple ID on the iPad, and then select that as the contact address at which you can be reached and all of the messages between the phone and the iPad will sync again.

If you want some advice from a parent who has a 5yr old, a 3yr old and a 1yr old using Ipads... Keep them off the Youtube stuff.. It has caused more problems for me than anything you would believe..
From issues with the Ipads... finding they have gone from Dora the Explorer vidoes to cartoons of characters called poopman... and the biggest problem.. I think the overdose of Ipad usage has ruined my kids from doing what regular kids should be doing.. On xmas they opened all their gifts, then just went back to the ipads.. You should really start a new discussion because many times people will not even look at a solved post. I will give it a try. Close the iBooks app and reboot the iPad.
Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
