IPad and Airport

I just bought an Airport today to use on vacation in my hotel, which has an Internet connection through Ethernet, not wireless. I'm not the greatest tech person, and this thing is driving me crazy. The people at Best Buy assured me I could connect the Airport to the Ethernet cord, and then use the iPad. My daughter and I are trying to set up the Airport at home, and it either asks questions we can't answer like the ISP number or some other numbers and passwords, or it just keeps flashing amber. The manual makes it sound like connecting is a five-minute thing, and we have been at it 3 hours.
The Utility program is on her computer. We will not have a computer on our vacation, we will have only the iPads.
Does anyone have a short tutorial on how to make this thing work so we can use it in the hotel?

Probably. I have the app FileBrowser and I can access items under devices in a Computer. If you can make the drive show up there you should be able to see it. FileBrowser does not, for me, access the Shared items in Finder.

IPad and airport security...

Anyone know if airport security treats the iPad the same as a computer (to be placed in a separate bin for xray). I would sure like to go through security without dragging it out.

IPad and airport extreme HDD

I have an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station in which I have attached a USB HDD so that I can access this over the wireless network via my MacBook Pro. All works fine.
Is it possible for me to access the photos stored on this drive via my iPad? Can i even search for and find the disk at all?

It is technically possible, but not out of the box - and limited.
How-to:
Once you have setup the USB-Drive on the Aiport Extreme and configured sharing you need an app on the iPhone/iPad. I have successfully used "GoodReader". However there might be others/better.
(In Goodreader the Airport Extreme should show up on the right hand bottom as AFP if your iPad and Airport Extreme are on the same WLAN.)
The limit however is:
- Works ONLY with files IN the Goodreader app (NO iPhotos, iBooks, ...)
- can only MOVE files/folders to/from the harddisk or delete them (can automatically sync, which might be nice)
- can NOT open files ON the harddisk - needs to download to iPad first
- can NOT create folders on the harddisk either
- nor can you move them around on the harddisk, it's always download/upload to the iPad first
Unfortunately I haven't found anything better. From memory:
Samsungs Goflex Satellite and Kensingtons Wi...something (could be wifi, not sure now) can only "stream" stuff to the iPad - and they too need an(other) app for that!
However if somebody knows anything better - I'd be eager to know, :-)

Your 4th gen iPad does have the necessary software to connect to the AirPort Express but not to administer it. To do the later, you would need to install the AirPort Utility applet.
You said that your iPad can "see" the AirPort's wireless network, but can't connect. What happens exactly when you attempt to do so? Do any of your other wireless devices have any trouble connecting to the Express? Did you configure the Express for a closed network ... that is, not to broadcast its Network Name?

I have been waiting for the airport utility for iPad/iPhone to come as I frequently travel with just my iPad and Airport Express. However, I have been unable to configure it when away from home.
So, Apple has released a utility but it appears to be the most important feature for being on the road, that is, the ability to switch connection sharing (so you can hook up to a hotel system).
Is it that I can't find it or it doesn't allow you to do it. In the iPad app, I am looking for the ability to switch between bridge mode and the other two.

The AirPort Utility App that is available with iOS 5 does pretty much everything that the Mac or PC versions do including controlling both the NAT & DHCP services to allow you reconfigure an AirPort as a bridge.

Unfortunately, connecting a non-AirPrint-enabled printer to an AirPort base station's USB port will not make it AirPrint-ready.
You will need to use another solution, like Printopia, to be able to print to this printer from an iOS device.

I want to be able to print to a network printer with my IPad and IPhone with IOS 5.0.1. Seems like there is a limited number of printers that can "AirPlay" from these devices. Seems too easy for what appears to be a limited set of new printers that have that have Thai function built in.

Running iMac, iPad/iPhone and 2 separate Airport Express, each connected to a different stereo in the house.
I would like to run the iMac itunes library remotely using the shared function on the ipad.
However when running music from iTunes on the iMac I can select speakers and both AEs so music is running from 3 sets of speakers. But on iPad I can only select iPad speakers or AE1 or AE2.
How may I get it to run both AEs please from iPad and using the Shared Function accessing the iMac itunes library?
The same applies for my iPhone 4s

The big problem that I'm having is that when internet sharing via the airport I can not simultaneously connect with my airport express. It would be great to be able to share internet from my Imac so I can be using my Ipad and at the sametime have my wife use the airport express to stream music in a different room. It would be awesome to be able to have the ability to do both. Does anybody know how?

My new AirPort Extreme keeps shutting down and kicking my ipad and iPhoto off while sometimes showing a good connection in utilities but utilities showing no connection.

My new AirPort Extreme keeps shutting down. The status light is off. If I unplug and re-plug it comes back on and reconnects. Also, it disconnects my iPad and iPhone even though the status light is green. I go to airport utilities and the internet dot is amber and the base station is green. I check wireless clients and both iPad and iPhone show excellent connection but are not connected. If I disconnect and re-connect it restores connection. My old AirPort Extreme never had this problem. I read a couple of comments from owners with similar problems and you pushed it off on the iMac or other things. I hope you have an answer for me!

If it has power, an Extreme's status light should never be off.
Try another power outlet. If it still doesn't work, return or exchange it for a new one.
