Ipad and Aperture 3

Is apple going to make aperture 3 for ipad and can the ipad not handle it??

Don't think so and it doesn't make sense to use Aperture on iPad because you are going to run out of space for pictures very quickly and don't think the processor in the iPad can handle this. I use Aperture 3 and syncs over 6000 pictures to iPad, they are just the previews so they are much smaller than the original and works well because of the resolution of the iPad.

  • Ipad and Aperture?

I realize the iPad isn't out yet, but I wondered when seeing the keynote how well Aperture will work with the iPad. I do hope that Apple includes Aperture photo syncing with the iPad when it is released and doesn't force us to go through iPhoto first.

i think the ipad would be MUCH better....the 17 screen is only an advantage if you are showing horizontal shots and have you ever HANDED someone a 17 mbp : here...check this out...
instant on is another feature....there was an interesting article on photogs showing their work on the iphone....which is great because it's always with you....sometimes being in the right place at the right time beats the best portfolio...which i can show you...tomorrow....anyway..they were saying that the flow is important (prepare all vertical and horizontals so the phone only has to be rotated ONCE...)
i really hope apple will build in some wifi remote screen/viewing for tethered shooting with the ipad in the next aperture.....that would be a great way to handle the people gathering around the monitor problem...just hand out ipads and everybody can browse.....
canon does something like that with their wifi grips (built in server)...but of course there are no adjustments/looks/.....other then whatever canon has built in to adjust in camera jpgs.....
i just hope for an aperture upgrade SOON....very very soon....

  • IPad and Aperture - photo deletion and/or editing

    Hi all,
I'm a new happy user of an iPad 2, and as I am also a user of Aperture, I was wondering if there is a way to delete photos from my iPad and thus from my Aperture. I have sooooo many photos that I want to delete, and I would love it if there was a way to sit with my kids and prune through my library on my iPad. Also, is there a program that will allow me to do any photo editing/captioning/face tagging/caption adding, etc., (basically a moble version of Aperture) on my iPad?
    Thanks so much!!!!!
    Leah

The problem is with the ipod photo cache.
He had me do the following:
    1. go to home folder in finder
    2. open pictures folder
    3. right click on iphoto library and click on show package contents
    4. Find "ipod photo cache" file and drag to desktop
    5. Close finder
    6. Reopen itunes and sync ipad
    7. The ipod photo cache rebuilds itself

  • IPad and Aperture Photo Organization

I've searched these forums but I haven't been able to find a suitable answer to my question. I recently "upgraded" from iPhoto to Aperture 3 for my digital photo library. I rearranged all of my projects in Aperture (Events in iPhoto) and I'm fairly happy with the way I can view them in that program. Unfortunately, when I purchased my new iPad and imported all my photos they seem to be in some random order that I can't figure out. The "Event" order on the iPad seems to mimic the order of my "Projects" in Aperture but when I look under the "Photos" tab, the photos are not in chronological order or in any order that I can determine. I find it very hard to locate a specific picture this way since I have around 10,000 photos. I did not have this problem on my iPhone when I synchronized using iPhoto. Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions? Thanks in advance.

I have just had a frustrating time trying to work out what the iPad sync is doing with my 20,000+ aperture library - and I think I have worked out what it is doing - all albums ticked for sync in itunes are sorted in the iPad according to the date of creation of the album, and ditto for projects
which is a real pain - so now I have to abandon viewing these 1000s of pics on the iPad by project, and just use albums, BUT then I need to make new albums in the various folders into which I sort my Aperture albums, (with extra dummy ones where I might in future need one, or this late-made album will appear at the bottom of my iPad album list!) especially for iPad syncing, being a subset of all my albums, because even with 64 gb I don't have enough space for all my pics of course, and copy the contents of the old ones into the new ones
and I plan to make all such new albums names: "i whatever" and plan to only tick these for syncing with my iPad
comments welcome from others who have sussed this or think I have it wrong

  • TS3989 Photos are ok in aperture and iphoto but in photostream on ipad and iphone the top of all portrait photos is chopped off. I tried switching photostream off and on but got the same. Only happened with photos added today, all past photos are fine

I have never had any problems before but all portrait photos added today have the top chopped off. For example , people's heads are missing or roofs or buildings are chopped off. Photos are fine on the camera and on my mac in iphoto and aperture. Switched off photostream on my ipad...all photos were deleted. Switched photostream back on and all photos uploaded again and portrait photos are cropped again

It sounds like while trying to import the photos with insufficient disk space those image files were damaged and not copied fully.  Now that you have sufficient space (a minimum of 10 GB is recommended) the latest imports are good.
What do you get if you export one of the problem photos out of iPhoto as Kind=Original and try to open it with Preview.  If it appears the same then there's nothing you can to do recover them.

  • Aperture, the iPad, and sort order

Basically, Aperture and iPad really don't seem to be happy bed buddies. Seems to me the bottom line is if you want to use your iPad to browse and view pictures, don't "upgrade" to Aperture.
My basic problem is sort order, and twofold:
    1. The order of Albums and Events (ie. Projects) are completely out of whack.
    2. The order of actual photos in albums and events are completely out of whack too.
Now I've seen complaints about 2. in the discussions but they seem to be pretty old threads and everyone's seemed to just have lived with it. I also see this support article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3381. Seriously? Apple calls that a "Resolution"? Manually dragging a photo in each and every album / project so that it uses the custom sort? Then of course on top of all that monkey work, the sort will be screwed for any future photos added to the album / project. ***? You can't even call that a workaround, let alone a resolution. Seriously Apple. Has anyone had any better luck with it?
This has been a pain in the *** with A2 and the iPhone but I didn't really use that too much to display my photos. But now with A3 and iPad, it's still exactly the same deal? This is just plain stupid.
As to 1. I can't for the life of me figure out what this order is (it's not by date or by name / path or anything I can tell), or if there's any way to change it. Nor could I find any threads about this issue so any info or tips would be very useful.
I really hate that all this iDevice syncing has solely been designed for use with iPhoto/iLife and the pro applications were just tacked on as a badly implemented afterthought. Is the pro market (specifically the intersection of Pro software and iDevice users) really this small that it means nothing to Apple, a company which normally prides itself in its attention to detail and user experience?

After taking a breath I renamed "version name" using the batch change function (you can select to keep the original file name untouched if you want) with a custom name as following:
    <Image Date> at <Image Time> - <Version Name> (optional as a reference to the original file name)
synched with ipad and everything is fine now. takes only 30 sec. still annoying you have to go through these extra loops though...

  • Problems syncing iPad photos and Aperture

I think my iPod Photo database is corrupting for some reason as I keep getting intermittent problems syncing photos from Aperture across to my iPad.
Running Lion 10.7 on a Mac Mini with Aperture 3.1.3 and each time I get the error if I delete the iPod Photo folder it will do a full resync the next time I connect, but with over 5000 photos it takes some time.
Anyone had a similar problem or know why it might be doing it?
    Thanks

From your words "syncing with my old iMac" it appears that you are now syncing to a different computer. What might work for directly imported photos (emailed, CCK, screen shots) is to connect your iPad to your new computer and right click on the iPad in the left part of iTunes and select the backup option. When that is complete then you right click and select transfer purchases. Then let iTunes erase the Ipad and replace it with the contents of iTunes on the new computer and then restore from backup
Photos synced to the iPad are not included in the backup and those will be lost unless you can get them from your original computer. However, there may be some third-part computer programs that can get the synced photos off the iPad.
For what are in backups see:

  • IPad and iPhone photos/folders disappear in Aperture 3

    Hello all,
As my subject line states I'm having problems with my photos/videos and their folders disappearing in Aperture 3. I can import them without problem via Aperture's built in import feature. I created a folder called iPhone and one called iPad and then import into the appropriate folders.
My problem occurs when I close Aperture. When I reopen my folders and all the projects/photos are gone. This has happened to me to numerous times. It does not occur with the other folders/projects that I have in my library.
I am using the latest aperture update and OSX 10.6.8. All of my IOS are up to date as well and not jail broken. With regards to the photos/videos on my ipad they are mostly ones transferred to my ipad via the camera connection kit.
Thanks for any help or insight you can give.

These are user-to-user forums, so I've asked the hosts to remove your email address from your post (posting it on public forums can lead to spam).
Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad.  Photos that were synced from your computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from on your computer and then re-syncing.
In terms of editing them, on iOS 6 I get an Edit button at the top left of the screen which gives me some edit options at the bottom of the screen : rotate, enhance, red-eye, crop. The edited version will then be saved to the Camera Roll album, the original photo is left untouched.  There are also third-party photo editing apps e.g. Photoshop Express (which is free with some in-app options) - they will also save the edited version to the Camera Roll album, the original photo will be left unaltered.

  • Keeping iPhoto/Aperture iPad and iMac all in synch

My primary work flow is with a high end digital SLR and Aperture on an iMac xOSX 10.6.8.  To put pictures on the iPad I synch folders out of Aperture thru iTunes.  I want to upload pictures from the camera to the iPad with the camera connector, works just fine.  I understand that iPhoto for the iMac now uses the Aperture library, which is great.  If I upload pictures to the iPad and use iPhoto on the iPad to edit them, then what do I need to do so that the pictures can get uploaded to Aperture and it all transparent.  Workflow - SLR to iPad, edit them on iPad with iPhoto, synch them back to my iMac and Aperture.  Run Aperature and the photos are all there as if I had originally just used the camera and iMac/Aperture.  One seamless workflow operation

It's not possible. The only thing iPhoto for iOS and iPhoto for the Mac share is a name. So there is no way to share Master, versions, edit history and so on to the Mac from iOS.

just some notes in addition to Ralphs answer: Your iPad is very useful to browse and show off your photos, i.e. the Retina iPad. You can sync to the iPad via iTunes or using the Photo Stream or a shared Photo Stream.  But if you can browse and store all your photos on the iPad, will depend on the available storage on your iPad. Using iTunes you can sync events, albums, faces stacks, places stacks to your iPad. Not many metadata tags will transfer however.
See the iPhoto help on what iPhoto can actually do:

  • 18000 and 200gb of iCloud storage how do i up load to iCloud and view them across my iPhone iPad and apple tv?

I have 18000 photos and i have to signed up to 200gb of iCloud storage how do i up load to iCloud and see them across my iPhone iPad and apple tv?
I have dragged my entire library over to the iCloud icon on the left side menu bar on my iMac iPhotos.
i have also signed into iCloud.com but can only see recent few photos taken today on my iPhone and when i have gone to import i can not import for my iPhotos app?
How do i get these to the cloud to view across my devices?
What settings do i need to use on my iPhone and iPad?
Or is iCloud not the best way to store and view my library?
    Thanks Spud

    You are a bit early.
Wait for a few month.  iCloud Photo Library (Beta) and the Photos.app for Mac are being beta tested now and will be available soon on your Mac. Then you can store your photo library in iCloud and keep optimised versions of your photos on your Mac locally, with the full sized versions in iCloud. And all your devices will be able to access the photos in iCloud.
See Apple's preview of the new Photos for Mac:  http://www.apple.com/osx/photos-preview/
Fill your library, not your device.
iCloud Photo Library can help you make the most of the space on your devices. When you choose "Optimize Mac Storage", it stores all your full-resolution photos and videos in iCloud in their original formats, while keeping storage-saving versions on each device. When you make an edit, the original image will download automatically. You get 5GB of free storage in iCloud — and as your library grows, you have the option to choose a plan for up to 1TB.
and also:  Photos for the Mac Is Clean, Fast, Connected — and Unfinished
The iPads and iPhones can already do it, but the Mac can only access this library using the web interface,  see:  iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ
Use the time, till Photos will be released, to consolidate your photo library. Get all places and faces tagged, all keywords, titles,  and ratings ready, duplicates removed, events and albums well structured, and when Photos will be released, you can simply let it migrate the iPhoto or Aperture library to iCloud Photo Library.  Enable "Optimize Storage" and you will be able to have the bulk of your photos in iCloud.

You cannot merge two separate libraries across user accounts. Photos does not have the function of merging different Photos.library files. If you have Aperture then you can merge the two before migrating over to Photos.

  • Photo Stream activation fails in iPhoto and Aperture

    Hi,
i've just updated to OSX 1.7.2 on my iMac and MBA and to iOS5 on my iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Everything basically works well except the iCloud photo stream on my mac.
iPhone and iPad play well and push and pull fotos from the photo stream.
On the mac i can't activate the photo stream. I've updated iPhoto and Aperture but when i try to activate the photo stream it says that it's unable to reach the photo stream. I've already logged out from i cloud and re logged in again but that didn't help. iPhoto and Aperture are the latest versions.
    Anyone with an idea?
Addition: Activation works well on another iMac with another iCloud account from my girl friend (in the same local network), i've also double checked little snitch isn't blocking anything.
Addition 2: It also works on my MBA with the same iCloud account that doesn't work on the iMac. Weird,

I'm fairly certain that it's an account-wide preference. You could always enable a second user account, turn on Fast User Switching, and only swap to that account to launch iPhoto and do your Photo Stream business.

  • How do I add photos to photo stream from BOTH iPhoto and Aperture

I use Photostream for displaying photos I have taken on my DSLR on my iPad. I take the photos, download them into iPhoto and then add them to Photostream. They then appear on my iPad for display to friends and family.  But some of my photos are now being manipulated in Aperture. I'd like to display these in the same Photostream, but so far, because I have to choose either the iPhoto libray or the Aperture library - but not both - for the photostream, the only way I can do this is to export the photos from Aperture into iPhoto (which doubles up my photo files). Is there a simpler way to do this?

OK. But let's say you are in iPhoto and you switch libraries so that you are now looking at your Aperture library. In order to add photos to your photostream you have to activate iCoud/photostream again in your iPhoto preferences for the new library. Then you get a message up which says: "iCloud Photos for [my iCloud email address] is being used with another library named "iPhoto Library". Switching iCoud Photos to this library will turn it off in iPhoto library."
In other words this does not solve my problem of how to have one photostream which contains photos from BOTH iPhoto and Aperture.
Is it perhaps possible to merge the iPhoto and Aperture libraries so that you only have one library for both applications?
