Ipad and presentation on external screen

Hi,
I hope this isn't an old question, I tried searching but couldn't find anything. So here comes: I'm thinking about buying an ipad for academic presentations. These are all in pdf format. Ideally, I would like to be able to have the projector/external monitor show the pdf slides one by one and the ipad's own monitor display my notes (also pdf). Is this possible yet with the ipad, and what app would I need?
Thanks!
Thomas

The iPad will only display on an external device through apps that are enabled to use an external display. It does not just pump everything on the screen out through the display port. The one that jobs uses on his presentations like the iPhones he uses are specially modified.
I have used Keynote with a projector without problem.

I have dropped my ipad and shattered the screen badly. A new problem that has only come since the cracking of the screen is that the ipad will now no longer detect or connect to ipad signals. I have tried all the solutions i have found online but none worked.

It will cost approximately US$219 to US$299 depending on the model.
Apple will replace the entire iPad; they don't repair.
If you had purchased AppleCare+ when you bought the device, you would be entitled to up to two replacements over a 2 year period for $49 each.

• I dropped my iPad and now with red screen. Can I change it ?

I dropped my old ipad and nw he has red screen. can i change it for new one ?

No, of course not.  You can buy a new one.  You can also do an out-of-warranty exchange for a refurbished iPad and, depending upon the model, it will cost you between $220-300 + tax.

• Keep Mac desktop on primary display (LCD) and Present on External?

Here's the question. Is there a way to keep my mac desktop on my primary display (the lcd on my MBP) while presenting to a projector? When I move the presentation to the external monitor and start the slide show, my LCD goes black. I know this is the "Presenter's Display." Is there a way to just have my mac desktop there instead? I'm using the newest version of Keynote.
Thanks,
Shawn

<<Is there a way to keep my mac desktop on my primary display ... while presenting to a projector?>>
If you mean your regular Mac desktop (and not the Keynote Presenter's Display) then the answer is no. While you are running Keynote, the two display options are as follows:
1) in the Keynote Preferences/Slideshow menu you can assign the presentation to either your Primary display (the screen of your MBP) or a Secondary display (the projector or other monitor).
2) In the Keynote Preferences / Presenter Display menu, there is a checkbox where you can assign the Presenter Information to the "alternate display" - i.e. the one that is NOT showing the presentation itself. If you do not check this box, the "alternate display" will be black, as you have discovered.
These are, at present, the only display options offered by Keynote.
If you would like to suggest a feature modification to Apple, you can do so at the Keynote Feedback forum: http://www.apple.com./feedback/keynote.html
I'm puzzled why you do not want to see the Presenter Information on your MBP while presenting on the projector. On my system I have checked ALL of the options for the Presenter Display so that when I give a presentation, I can know exactly what is coming-up next and when. In this way, I use the presentation itself as my "cue" sheet, rather than working from notes.
Good luck.

hi
I broke the side of my iPad and parts of the screen do not respond....is there an easy way to
fix this ? If I get the screen fixed is it going to respond?

Take it to an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Center for an assessment and plan to move forward.
You might expect to pay US$249 plus tax for out-of-warranty service for an iPad 2 if you are in the U.S.

• How can i use an external screen on mountain lion when i'm running on battery power?

Hey all:
I just upgraded from snow leopard to Mountain Lion, and i use external screen, keyboard and mouse all the time....
On Mountain Lion it's perfect when the power adaptor is connected as soon as you close the LID your external screen becomes the primary screeen and it's fully functional desktop (no mirroring or extension screen)
But the problem is when i'm in battery power, in snow leopard i used to close my lid my mac goes to sleep then i wake it up using the mouse and immediately open the LID so it doesn't go to sleep again and now i'm running on battery power with a primary external screen.
Any idea how to use an external screen on mountain lion while i'm on battery power? (i know i can use mirroring but i want just 1 primary screen and the laptop screen would be turned off )
Thanks for the help.....

Thanks again
You can't with the lid closed, that's one of the rules for clamshell mode.

I have dropped my IPad and cracked the front screen, can this be repaired Or does the whole unit need to be replaced?

The iPad is basically a sealed unit so Apple will replace the device - and it's not cheap. The US prices are (from here) :

It sounds like either your hard drive or the SATA cable that connects it to the motherboard are failing. This could be heat related in your case, which is why you see it after it runs awhile. You can take it to the Genius Bar for a free evaluation. If you decide to test it yourself, I usually suggest moving the hard drive to an external enclosure. If it works there for awhile, the cable is probably the issue.

• Is there an app for video playback on external screen from ipad mini which avoids mirroring?

I want to play fullscreen video from ipad mini to external screens with a clean look and without without showing playback controls etc. I need to be able to play, pause, change the order of video tracks without affecting the external display as it's for playback of video backing tracks for a music show.
Does anybody know of any apps which do this? I'm looking at Portfolio for iPad at the moment which looks promising.

No.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

i have an ipad and the original owner is not present and i have no way to contact the owner how can i reset the ipad to factory settings?

Tammy,
Unfortunately your iPhone is just a paper weight. Return it to the pawn shop for a refund.
iCloud: Find My iPhone Activation Lock in iOS 7 explains the "Buyer Beware" facts:
When purchasing an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from someone other than Apple or an authorized Apple reseller, it is up to you to ensure that the device has been erased and is no longer linked to the previous owner’s account.
Follow each of these steps to make sure that you can use the device you purchase:
Turn the device on and slide to unlock. If the passcode lock screen or the home screen appears, the device has not been erased. Ask the seller to completely erase the device by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been erased.
Begin the device setup process. After choosing a language, choosing a country, and connecting to a network, the device will begin activation. If you are asked for the previous owner’s Apple ID and password, the device is still linked to their account. Hand the device back to the seller and ask them to enter their password. If the previous owner is not present, they can remove the device from their account by signing in toicloud.com/find. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been removed from the previous owner’s account.
You will know that a device is ready for you to use when you are asked to “Set up your iPhone", “Set up your iPad", or “Set up your iPod” during the device setup process.

• Ipad presents a black screen

iPad is working - at least it does syncronize with iTunes - but presents a black screen and does not respond to reset / power off action (by pressing the two keys simultaneously).

If the reset doesn't work, you may want to force the iPad into Recovery Mode.
Note: Data will be lost.
1. Turn off iPad
2. Connect USB cable to computer; leave the other end alone
3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
5. Release the Home button
6. Open iTune
7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad
