IPad and the new dock

Guess what I just learned after buying two docks foe my iPad? You can not dock easily with the iPad in it's nifty new apple case! The dock is great and has a very good connection on the dock outside the case. Guess the developers did not think about docking in the case. So I wasted my money on the docks. Really disappointed. The docking can be done by forcing the connection--but I would not advise that. I also would not advise trimming the apple cover to allow a better fit. Developers might remember the case in revision two!

Realize this is your first post, but underscores the usefulness of this discussion board before purchase. This limitation has been talked about nonstop for the last two weeks.
If they made the dock to support the case, it would likely be a sloppy fit for those that do not use the case. Not a way to win this one.

On the mac's system preferences: click the iCloud icon, then "sign out" button. After, you can enter the new ID.

I have the original ipad. I can't delete my photos from the ipad, and the new itunes update does not give me the option to sync photos. What do I do?

Is your iPad jailbroke? If it is, all bets are off. If it is not jailbroke, keep reading.
First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

My command 'Show Apple ID' in App Store gives only a white window on my iPad and the new updates of the Apps stay incompleted. What is going wrong?

Go to Setting>Store and sign into the itunes account that purchased the app. Is your computer authorized for the iTunes account for which the updates are not showing? Also, are the non-showing app for the update showing in iTunes?

Do i have to charge both the ipad and the keyboard dock?

I bought my 84 year old mother an iPad - which she is loving. I also got her the Apple keyboard dock to make it easier for her to use. Problem is - I had iPad in dock, dock plugged into wall. This morning the iPad is showing a battery strength of only 39%. Do I need to charge both of these separately ... or do I have a real problem? Thanks!

There is no battery in the Dock, it is pass through only. Make sure that you have everything plugged in securely. Also make sure that you are only using the iPad's charger, the iPad needs more current than provided by the charger for an iPhone or iPod.

Smartfolders and the new dock

Does anyone know if you can add a smartfolder to the dock? The documents folder is pretty useless as it's too full, so I thought a smaller documents folder that stays up-to-date with only the last weeks documents would be more useful. So far I can't seem to get this going. Any ideas?

What is the difference between the 4th generation iPad and the "New iPad with retina display"? i don't quite understand. are they stilll the same size or would i have to get a different case?

The 3rd and 4th generation iPads are the same size. The 4 has a faster processor, and a little better iSight camera for FaceTime. The 4 also has the lightning connector so your old cable will not work with the iPad 4.
You should always check with the manufacturer of the case to see if it will fit. You can probably do that on the manufacturers website.

I have a similar problem with ITunesU, I used to be able to access them from my car dock, but now they dont appear and the fwd/back buttons on the steering wheel wont affect them.
It seems taking them from ITunes into their own app has confused many other applications or dock connectors. Im going to try and remove the ITunesU app as I dont want to have lost the extra functionality

If you have all your music on the cmputer then i would connect up my phone uncheck the Sync Music option and apply.
This should take all the music off your phone .Then you can resync the music back on to it.
If this doesn't work maybe a restore to factory settings and start from scratch is the way to go

From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.

Connect your iPad to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and “ Check for Updates “...
If an Update Appears Install it... if not... you are up to date for your particular Device...

You can have the 'classic' view by clicking on View - Show sidebar. In the new view, your iPad will have a link on the upper right.
