IPad and thumb drive

I have tried to connect a flash thumb drive to my iPad using the Camera Connection Kit. The iPad does not recognize the thumb drive. Will the next version of iOS support thumb drive connection for reading/storing data?

If the storage medium is formated in either Fat 16 or 32 (the standard) and has a folder labeled DCIM in the root directory, you can add photos and video in the formats supported by the iPad and import them into the iPad just like if a camera was used. However, like for the camera you can't add photos to the storage device but you can delete from it. Some older storage devices may not work. I tried it on an old 2GB USB stick and got message that it dew too much power.

  • USB external hard drive and thumb drive don't work any more...

I have a dual 2GHz PowerPC G5...and i've been using my USB external hard drive and thumb drives for a year with no problems....but now when i plug them in, my mac does not see them...the lights on the external hard drive and thumb drives come on as normal but nothing else...it does this on all the USB ports(front and back) BUT my iPod, keyboard and mouse, and HP printer (that use the same USB ports) works fine....(also i'm running Mac OS X 10.5.2)....help....

You can't transfer songs from iPod to computer using iTunes, except for songs that you purchased from the iTunes Store (you can also re-download them using the iTunes Store Purchased screen).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer song files from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your computer, drag the files (or the folder containing the files) to the iTunes window, to add them to the iTunes library.

  • Is there a way to record or copy video from iPad to thumb drive?

I purchased the iPad camera connection kit.   What I would love to do is either, record directly to the USB drive, or Record, and then copy the recording to the USB drive.  Does anyone know how I can do this?  I'm setting this up for people who are not tech savvy.  I was hoping there might be a feature in iphoto, or in the OS that was like, "transfer to USB"  or something.
I'm open to third party Apps, as long as it's simple.
I already have yousend it, and drop box, but they are both a bit messy for our needs.
    Thx
    Ethan-

Hmm.  Does anyone know of any third party products that would help here?  OR, this may be off topic, but has anyone found or heard of a a video camera that will let me record to a USB thumb drive?  Or copy to one, with out a computer?
    Thx!

  • My USB Stick(Thumb Drive) not Supported and Anothe...

I have 8Gig Patriot Thumb drive. I used OTG USB cable to connect it to my N8 but phone says USB Device is not supported. ALso When I try to connect my Iomega External Hard drive I get the same error.  Can this be possible? Cause patriot and iomega is very well known company in hard drive and thumb drive. I would be very surprise if N8 doesn't support their products.
So can anyone confirmed for me that  those companies simply not supported in N8 or I am getting at error which I am not suppose to.
Also there is one more thing, I usually have around 8.9gig left in internal memory. Whenever I try to move 6 gig Mkv files to internal drive I am keep getting error that there isn't enough memory left. Then I tried with my 16gig microsd card. It had 14.9 gig memory left and I tried to copy 6.9 gig Mkv file to microsd card. I got the same error. So can any help please?
    Thanks

Not a computer engineer but isn't this like using a PC with less than 10% free space, it all becomes unworkable. For internal memory doesn't it have to allocate 6GB first leaving it less than 3GB to actually carry out the task?

  • Copy from thumb drive to external hard drive fails - "file is in use"

I have photos on a thumb drive formatted MS-DOS FAT16 from a windows machine, all are .jpg files and I'm trying to copy them to one of two partitions on an external LaCie hard drive, formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The other partition is used only for Time Machine.
With absolutely nothing else running except The Finder, when I try to directly copy them by dragging a folder of them from the thumb drive window onto the external drive window, it starts up a copy, then returns the error "Cannot complete the copy because the file "<<imagename>>.jpg" is in use. <<imagename>> is always the first item in the folder being copied.
Sharing & Permissions for the folders and all images inside are "Read & Write" privileges for (Me) (unknown) and everyone.
I can successfully drag a folder of images from the thumbdrive to my MacBook Pro (10.5.8) desktop and they copy fine. When I then try to drag the folder from the desktop to the external drive, I get the same "in use" error message.
I've used Disk Utility to repair disk permissions and repair disk on my MacBook Pro, repair disk on the thumb drive and repair disk on the external hard drive. All are fine - same error occurs.
I've ejected, turned off and disconnected all external drives and thumb drives, restarted my MBP and re-connected the drive and turned it on, and then inserted the thumb drive - same error occurs.
Help please! Am I missing something basic here? Any troubleshooting wizards out there with some other thoughts or ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Eye-fi card to ipad to network drive

    Hi everyone
I have an eye fi card in my Nikon DSLR, it sends images to the iPad (iOS 6.0.1).  Is there a way for these to automatically then be sent to our home network drive?  The drive is a freecom connected through the BTHomeHub ethernet.  I am able to access it remotely through FTP so I assume I could use FTP from within the Wifi network.
Any help would be appreciated.  It seems very long winded to start up the laptop and allow the files to download from the iPad to the laptop then get get backed up onto the network drive.
    ThanksJim

If the FTP drive is accesible outside your home network, you can add an FTP server as an online destination for the Eye-Fi card- so it would sent to your iPad and the drive.

  • Getting thumb drive files to iPad

I need to get files from a thumb drive to my iPad,would like some help for a NOVICE like me to get this done
    Thanks

    1. transfer the files to your computer, and use iTunes file sharing to transfer them to the app you plan to use them with.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4094?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    or
    2. transfer them to your computer.  Upload them to a cloud based file storage service like dropbox, box.net, 4shared, sugarsync or any other such service that is also supported in the app you plan to use the files in.
2b. open the app on your iPad, login to the online file service, and download the files to the app.
There is no general file system to transfer a file to on an iOS device - you need to transfer files to specific apps, so first you need an app that can work with the files you plan to transfer.

  • How can I access a thumb drive plugged into an airport with my iPad?

how can I access a thumb drive plugged into an airport with my iPad? I am trying to set up an information point to serve weekly info over a NOT connected to the internet airport.

You can't. There are a couple of devices such as AirStash and the GoFlex drive that you can access over WiFi. They are limited, as I understand it, though.

  • I am very new to Mac Mini and need help transferring files to thumb drive

I want to transfer the Mac Mini user guide (manual) to my thumb drive but do not find how to do it.  Help, please!

The thumb drive is on the desktop.  This is the most embarrassing question I have had to ask in public in a long time, but, how do you drag something.  When I try by holding down my mouse on the file name I want to move it doesn't drag it just gives me several other options.  I left Microsoft for this and I know nothing about Apple computers except for my iPad.

  • My iPad will accept downloaded images from my camera, but will not allow me to move the images to a thumb drive, with the message that those devices require too much power for the iPad.

Using an older, second-issue iPad, I can download images into it from my camera. I cannot move them out of the iPad into a thumb drive. The message I receive is that the thumb drives require too much energy to make the transfer. What can I do?

Thats how its designed. in order to export your images or videos, the best method might be by connecting the iPad to your computer, or directly to the thumb drive connected to your computer, not to the iPad. Then is as simple as drag and drop. The other method could be sending them by email or uploading via a cloud service but that will take more time do get it done.
    Hope this helps.
    Alex

  • Are there any rumors that the new iPad will be able to connect to usb thumb drive for iWork or microsoft word?

Please help, I would like to know if it would be better to buy the new ipad instead of an ipad2

It will almost certainly not connect directly to USB thumb drives. There's still no USB port, and except for photos on specifically-arranged drives, there have been no indications that such support will be provided via the Camera Connection Kit.
    Regards.

  • Saving iPad Garageband audio to a thumb drive

    Hi All,
I am trying to help a friend - he wants to record audio using an iPad & a remote microphone using Garagaband.
How can he save the files remotely?  Can he use the Camera Connection kit and a thumbdrive to save the files?  Can he plug in a USB hard drive and save the files on there?  Sorry, I don't have the Camera Connection kit myself, so I can't try it...
    - Thanx
    - Jon

not sure about a thumb drive but garageband allows you to email the files pretty easily.

  • I would like to know how to take photos from IPhoto and put on thumb drive?

Would really appreciate the help of anyone who might know how to do this.

Select the photo or photos you want to put on the thumb drive. then click on file export. then fill in any information you want on the export window. kind jpeg would be the best. medium would be the best the under file name give it a name so you can find the pic on your thumbdrive. the click export. the next window will say save as, so give it the file a name probably the same file name you gave it on the other screen then the next line says where and thats where yoy select your thumb drive, it will usually display the brand of thumb drive you have. if it is already there select ok and your done. if the name is not there hit the arrow at the end of the line and look for the name of your thumb drive and select it then select ok. hope that helpls.
