IPad app frozen on "waiting"

How do you resolve an iPad (2) App frozen on "waiting?" It's an app I used regularly and can still access through App store. It was recently updated. I have read some posts online and have already tried rebooting the iPad, logging off/in iTunes, and double clicking icon. My main concern is that it's draining the battery.

Hello elsiehow,
You may need to force close all open apps, then reset your iPad.
iOS: Force an app to close

iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

  • Ipad app stuck on waiting

I downloaded an app from the App store and the icon "waiting" appeared. Shortly after I downloaded it a message popped up saying that this app is not compatible. However, instead of disappearing like it should, it stayed on my home screen as if it was waiting to be downloaded. I tried deleting it but the app would not be deleted. I tried restarting the iPad many time but it still would not download. I also tried syncing with iTunes but it is still, just no longer with the word "waiting" under it. Also, when deleting the app, it refers to it as "" rather the the name.

    Hi pnd97,
It looks like at this point, you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.

  • Ipad App Store said "20" updates.  I attempted to update w/3G.  Now many apps say "Waiting" and are frozen.  When I go online and plug into computer it just updates and doesn't address the individual apps, which still say "Waiting" and are frozen.

iPad App Store app said "20 updates".  Attempted to update w/3G.  Updated some, but now many apps say "waiting" and are frozen.  I attempted to update then by attaching to computer Itunes Store.  All it did was very quickly go thru the 4 steps and said, "Synched, OK to uplug."  I clicked my ipad and then apps.  It also said Update complete (or something like that).  Now several apps on iPad are frozen and say "Waiting".  Help!!

Oh a few other things I forgot.
The long winded back-ups!!!! JESSSSSSH! Although I think the latest update seems to have bit into this a bit.
Also why is it that sometimes when the iPhone is syncing it will not say on the actual iPhone that it is syncing. I see it's syncing in iTunes but the iPhone doesn't have the typical do not disconnect -syncing message!!! What's odd is I can see the new apps being updated to the iPhone and as long as I don't open any apps it will finish it's sync but the minute I open any apps the iPhone will lock-up!!!

  • Apps are frozen on waiting

I am updating apps and there are about 10 Of them frozen on "waiting"... I can't even delete them ... How do I fix the problem?

And feel free to try any of these suggestions as well.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

  • IPad 2, mail app frozen after g3 cellular connected. Receiving mail, but all screen function frozen. ???

Ipad 2, mail app frozen after connecting via g3 cellular. Incoming messages are received, but all app functions are frozen. Any ideas anyone?
rural location, have only Internet connection for answers, since email frozen. Thanks any help.

Thanks Diavonex, but that's what I tried to discribe that I'd already done. I didn't realise it was called the "task bar".
I've done both the things you suggested again, but Mail is still locked into this "white" screen when it is relaunched, and after 10 seconds it crashes back to the app menu page. I seems to be running in the background as it knows new emails are waiting to be read, but you can't get into Mail any more to view anything.
Not sure whether to delete all Mail accounts in Settings and start again, but that seems extreme.
    Any other suggestions ?

See if either of these things works for you. In the future ... Only update one app at a time. Forget that the Update All button even exists. It causes more problems than it does good - IMO.

  • Several apps are frozen on waiting

several apps are frozen on waiting...I cannot delete them because there is no X to delete

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.

Another thing to try - Turn the iPad Off & then back ON.
    If that doesn't work:
    •  Log out of your iTunes store account.  Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
    • Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
    • After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

  • Ipad apps are greyed and say waiting, but can open them from app button

The apps were reloaded after the ipad was reset, but only about 1/3 loaded. The rest are grey, and say "waiting" under them. In the app icon, they all show up as loaded, and can be opened, but from the home screen, nothing happens when the app is tapped.

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.

Why won't my apps install on my iPad, it just keeps waiting. Please help.

These are all steps that have worked for some other users in the past. They may not work for you, but they are worth a try.

You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.

  • Ipad 3 apps frozen.

My mom has Ipad 3, when she reboot her ipad all the apps frozen. She has to download an app to make it work again. Is it a manufacture default or just the problem with the OS?

Read this article about troubleshooting downloaded apps from the app store. I think this might answer your question. If I understand you correctlty that is.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1702
If this happened as a one time occurrence, this may be what happened.
    3. Install another app from the App Store
If none of your user-installed apps will launch, there could be an issue with Apple ID authorization. Download and install a free (or paid) app that isn't already installed on your device to reset this information. You could also remove an app from your iOS device and download it again from the App Store or sync the app from your computer.

Try restarting. If it doesn't promopt you with the power bar to slide it off, then follow the reset directions also listed on that page.
