Ipad, Apple TV and HDCP.  Help?

I know there are many threads on hdcp issues.
I'm trying to AirPlay hd movies I've bought on iTunes from my ipad through Apple TV to my HDTV.  With some movies (Rise of the Guardians for example),  I get the "this movie is not authorized to play on this display" HDCP message.  I realize I can play the movie right from iTunes on my Apple TV.  However for movies that we watch multiple time (kids movies mostly), the Apple TV really crushes my download limit with my ISP.  In theory I can download once to my ipad and AirPlay watch it multiple times right?  My tv and my receiver are definitely HDCP compliant, so that's not the issue.  Why can't I AirPlay these with my ipad but its no problem with Appletv.  Do I have to resort to the hdmi adaptor for the ipad?  Why?

To start with if you are using Airplay Mirroring don't bother as it will degrade quality.
I suspect however you are using 'push' Airplay to send the downloaded stream to the AppleTV.
Are AppleTV AND  iPad connected to the internet?  If not they need to be - Apple has quite stupidly (probably for rights reasons) does not allow Airplay of a protected movie without 'authorisation' - this would entail a quick inernet connection to Apple's servers to ok it and would not use any significant internet bandwidth.  The annoyance here is if you go on holiday/vacation with iPad/iPhone with media and a compact AppleTV, then an internet connection is needed to play to AppleTV via Airplay.
Your best option if you have a computer is to have the content downloaded to iTunes (sync it from the iPad using Transfer Purchases) on the computer and stream it across the LAN from there.
A computer running iTunes on the same network as AppleTV will allow AppleTV to 'pull' the stream from the computer without using internet bandwidth provided you access it using AppleTV's Computers icon.
If you play back purchases from the cloud using Movies/TV Shows icon it will assume you want to stream from the internet and use all that bandwidth again.

  • 170 iPads, Apple Configurator and Apple ID - HELP!

    Hey Guys,
so i work for a school and i have 170 iPads that need to be deployed. we are using apple configurator and supervising the devices.
Everything has gone great for 23 that i have already done and handed out to teachers etc, except for the minor problem of updating the applications.
When they go to the update the apps it asks for an apple ID and passowrd, at this point in time its asking for my Boss' Apple ID password. Is there anyway of stopping this or will i have to get the teachers to input there own apple IDs on startup of the device?
    Thanks for all your help.

This happens more often then not lately and I am not sure why. But this is what you can do to fix it after it happens.
Do you have tens - or even thousands- of apps trying to download? You
need the account’s “queue” deleted by Apple.
    1.       Navigate to: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
    2.      Click on "Contact iTunes Store support"
    3.      Choose "Connecting and Downloading"
    4.     Select "The topic is not listed" and enter the subject "Download
    Queue" and continue.
    5.      On the next page choose to email support.
    6.     Create a message that says something such as:
"I redeemed codes using Apple ID [email protected] & iTunes is
trying to download hundreds of copies of the same app.  Please clear out
    my download queue."
    7.      Wait for a response from Apple.
    8.     ****After the queue is deleted, be sure to delete the computer’s
trash. All the extra app copies will fill the MacBook Air’s storage.****

  • I took my iMac to be fixed and when i got it back, mail was not set up. I called Apple Support and they helped me set up mail. Then the emails went to trash on the iMac and on the MacBook Pro (same emails). There are no numbers by the 'inbox' to tell how

I took my iMac to be fixed and when I got it back, mail was not set, so I called Apple and they helped me set up mail. Now the new mail goes to trash and there is no number by the 'inbox' to tell me how many new messages I have. I cannot save a draft to 'drafts.' There is a large number by 'trash' (I think all mail went to trash - including drafts). When I send myself an emai, it goes to trash also. This is on both my iMac (the one taken in) and my MacBook Pro (same emails) which was not taken in.
I went to 'rules' but have no idea what to do there. There are no rules in the rule box. When I click 'add rule' it puts 'rule 1' in the rule box, but since that was not there when I took it in, I delete it to have an empty rule box.
Can someone pleasehelp me. I am completely stupid with all this. Do not under stand what is suppose to be set up in 'rules.'
    Thank you so much,
    Arudi

Now new mail is coming to both computer's inboxes but there is no number on the stamp icon on dock to show number of emails on the iMac. Nor is there a number by either email address under MAILBOXES/inbox (sidebar) on the iMac. This number is showing on MacBook Pro.
I also can save drafts now on both computers.
Seems the Pro is fixed and the iMac is only missing the numbers on dock icon and by addresses in inbox.
Now that the problem is less, I feel i am wasting your time but will continue so maybe I can get those numbers back.
Two emails > AT&T email and gmail.
Apple's Mail program for email - yes, and gmail.
    IMAP for both accounts.
Did not change mail configuration on MacBook.
The iMac and MacBook Pro have the same mail configuration except in Accounts/mailbox behaviours/store draft messages on the server was not marked on MacBook > it is now.
'Store junk messages on the server' was marked on one computer for gmail, but is unmarked on both now.
On the iMac, Accounts/Accounts info/Outgoing mail for gmail is smtpgmail.
On the MacBook Pro for gmail it is smpt.gmail.com (plus) my email address.
Rules/Add rule window, on the MacBook third line is 'Any Recipient', on the iMac third line is 'From."
The last box on that line has my email address on the MacBook.
The last box on that line has the last address I sent an emil to (last night), on the iMac.
On the last line on iMac, no box was selicted for 'to mailbox' > I choose 'inbox' because it is on the MacBook Pro.
Now I have a Rule #1 and am not sure I should have because there was no rules marked when I took the computer in.
Thank you. I relized I had done the labeling wrong when so much of my question appeared twice and no one else's did. I know how to do it now.
    Thank you so much,
    Arudi

  • The last apple ID used on my App Store is stuck how do I change back to my apple ID? I can't download anything because its not asking for my apple ID and password, help?

help, the last apple ID used to download in my ipad2 is stuck, I can't download anything because its not asking for my apple ID and password, how do I change it back to mine?

Again, this only affects you if someone *redownloaded* content with a different ID. In my case, I emailed iTunes Store support, explained the situation, and they reset the counter.  I recommend you try the same
If you read discussion boards, this is a significant change from a year ago, when Apple told people in the same situation to go f&$# themselves.  Clearly it's dawning on them that this is a stupid policy, and my guess is if people keep complaining they'll change it to something more reasonable.  Remember, it wasn't that long ago you couldn't re-download content at all.
Apple can't really afford to play hardball on this. Sure, the hardcore fanboys will always say "Thank you sir, may I have another" whatever Apple throws at them,  but the rest of us will just switch to Amazon, which has none of these restrictions.

  • Need some help on Apple TV and HDCP function

Hi got apple tv for Christmas however when when using AirPlay of my Ipad to view some movies keeps coming up with error message stating that my device requires HDCP for playback. I have a sharp Equos  lc-32le430x LCD HDTV which is only 12months old and I have called sharp and they tell me that the TV does support HDCP. Can anyone tell me if this is a Apple TV problem, HDMI  I cable problem or HDTV problem and is there a fix fort this.

I would check your cable supports HDCP first. It is the likely cause and the cheapest to solve it it is the case!

  • Various problems with Ipad2, Mini Ipad, Apple TV and Itunes

    Hi,
I have an Ipad 2, a Mini Ipad, an Apple TV (version 3), and a PC with Windows 7 and Itunes.
All devices have the last version of IOS, Apple TV software, Windows 7 and Itunes. All are conected through Wifi. I have several different problems:
    1. I have VLC for IOS installed in Ipad 2 and MiniIPad. In Windows 7 I have the Upnp Windows Media server, sharing videos and music. From VLC for IOS in IPad 2, I can access all videos and music shared in Windows 7. From VLC for IOS in the MIniIPad, I can only listen to the music. When I try to play any video from the Windows 7 PC, I get an error 'Reproduction failed'. What could be the cause and the solution?
    2. I copy an MP4 video to the VLC for IOS in the MiniIPad, and I can play it well. But if I try to Airplay it to the Apple TV, I just can hear the sound. No video at all. I haven't done the test with IPad 2. Is there any solution for this?
    3. I have an Itunes Library shared from the Windows 7 PC, with some films and some music. I have Sharing at Home activated with the same AppleID in all devices (PC, IPad, MiniIPad, and Apple TV). Some times it works, and sometimes no. If I try to connect to the library from Apple TV, it appears a message saying that I have to share de Itunes with the same AppleID (Which is done yet). Sometimes deactivating and activating again the sharing at home solves the problem, but sometimes no. When trying to access to the library from the Ipad 2 or MiniIpad, when it works, in the Music or Video App it appears a bar with a button 'shared' that if I press I can access the contents of Itunes Library, but most times theres is no bar, just a message saying that there is no content, and just a button to Itunes store. Is there any way to make it work always, not randomly?
    4. I have two Wifi Access Points at home. I have them configured in IPad and MiniIPad so they connect to the most reliable automatically. But in the Apple TV, whenever I want to connect to one access point, I have to enter the password. Is there any way to connect automatically?
    5. Last but no least: Why Apple makes the things so difficult? How is it possible that they sell products so expensive and amazing, and make them so difficult to manage?

    Hello again.
After lot of research and surfing the web, I have found the answers to points 2, 3, and 4. The point 1 may be solved, but I haven't had time to test.
Point 2: Airplay out of 'official' IOS video player doesn't support video, just sound. To airplay video with a non official IOS Video player like Vlc or Oplayer, mirror airplay function must be used.
Point 3 (the most important for me): Itunes Home Sharing doesn't support IPv6. Windows 7 activates IPv6 by default. I have turned of IPv6 in the network interface of Itunes Windows 7 server, and restarted Windows. Now, home sharing works like a charm.
Point 4. Apple TV, in spite of its size, is not designed to be a mobile device. So it can only remember one Wifi AP password at a time. If you change to another AP, you have to enter de password, and from then now, it will remember it until you change to another AP.
I post it just in case helps to others.

  • Apple TV and HDCP Compliance

What do I have to do to make my Apple TV HDCP compliant so that I can watch TV?

Ok but how do I get my Apple TV to work.  My software is updated. But I keep getting a notice to unhook and re hook up my HDMI cable. This is not working.  Is my Apple hardware non compatible?

  • Apple Displays and HDCP?

I just read an article about how whether the industry goes with blu-ray or HD-DVD, all discs will come with a form of DRM called HDCP that will prevent high-definition video from playing on an unsupported display. From the sound of the article, which primarily deals with Vista, it could apply to Apple as well, since it refers to the restrictions coming from the movie industry and hardware manufacturers. Does anyone know anything about this? I was going to buy a 23" Apple display this week, but I can wait as long as it takes if it means the difference between being able to play high-def video on the screen. Link to article:
    http://pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,122738,00.asp
Sorry for sending you to PC world.

Apple has not officially announced HDCP compatibility for its displays... but there is a growing controversy over the use HDCP, so maybe Apple chose not to advertise the fact that their displays are compatible.
We don't know... so unless there's an official statement from Apple, assume that you won't be able to play HDCP protected material.
Not all HD material is HDCP protected - you can certainly play HD video on the 30" ACD. But most movies delivered on HD-DVD and BD (the potential successors to the DVD) will use HDCP.
AFAIK, there aren't any computer displays currently on the market which officially support HDCP.

  • Events after latest iPhoto update divided themselves on iPad, Apple TV and iPhone

After the latest iPhoto Update I noticed a strange behaviour: In iPhoto i have about 10 events of photos. When I connect an iPhone or iPad and click on the photos rider in iTunes, there are at least 25 events. For example the Berlin event exists in iPhoto only once. On the i-device the event divided itself in three events! How comes? Bevore the Update everything was fine. iTunes transferred the only existing Berlin event in iPhoto. Now i have 3 events to chose from. And only when I chose all 3 of them I get the full photo set.
I did not change any settings. Bevore the iPhoto Update everything was fine, now chaos. Any ideas?

Obviously, I'm not alone with this:

  • Ipad Apple logo and loading then rest

Ipad not working .. Its show apple log then loading under the apple log show then hide every 3 sec .. Then the apple log is hide and show loading and apple log show every 3 sec then rest ...heeeeeelp meee

I don't think that this will fix the problem, but try this first. Reset the iPad. No data will be lost.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
IF that does not do anything, you should restore the iOS software. Try this way first.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
If you can't restore that way, try recovery mode.
If you can't update or restore your iOS device

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
