Ipad apps could not be synced because "apps could not be determined"

What does this mean and how do I fix it? I could not find this under any of the support articles. Thank you.

Ok, seems to be a problem with my computer connection. Apps sync fine over wifi, but when the cable was plugged in, I got the error message. Also it said "not charging" instead of the normal battery charging icon. That was my clue.

    Hello ArtyJP,
    You can give this a shot to correct the permissions on your computer. I know you have Windows 8, the Windows 7 will still get you in the right place.

    I'm sorry about your loss.
    Are you trying to recover data from this iPad, or to set it up as new (erase everything on it, and simply use the iPad as if it were brand new as your new iPad)?
    If the latter, you can place the iPad into recovery mode as shown here.  You may have to try this several times:

  • I am getting this error message after upgrading to iOS5: "iTunes cannot sync apps to the iPad "ray's iPad" because the apps installed on the iPad could not be determined."

    I am getting this error message after upgrading to iOS5: "iTunes cannot sync apps to the iPad "ray's iPad" because the apps installed on the iPad could not be determined."
    I wiped it out and restored from backup but I am still getting the same message.

    I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and that fixed it. Here are the specific instructions that I was given.
    ~~~
    Try the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
    Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
    it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
    Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
    Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch
  • Resolved - iTunes cannot sync apps to iPad "ipadName" because the apps installed on the iPad could not be determined.
    Current setup
    - Dell Destop running Windows XP SP3
    - iTunes 10.5 as of 11/02/2011
    - iPad 2 iOS 5.0 as of 11/02/2011
    I recently got the error message iTunes cannot sync apps to iPad "ipadName" because the apps installed on the iPad could not be determined.  I had already upgrade the iPad to iOS 5.0 several weeks ago and had no issues.  I had also sync'f many many times in the past with no issues.
    I was able to sync on Sunday and then "All of a sudden", I could not sync on Monday.  Tried closing out all my apps on the iPad, that didn't help.  Tried restarted my desktop and the iPad and then sync, that didn't help.  Tried logging into my AppleID account via iTunes and iPad to see if that would clear up anything in the background, that didn't help.  I also couldn't really find anything on the web that helped.
    Come Monday, I decided to just delete the apps from iPad manually and go about it that way.  When I tried to delete the app, it did not give me the (x) option to delete. Weird?  Did a quick search online and someone suggested that the Restriction to delete apps was OFF.  DING, DING, that was it.  Checked my settings and sure nough, I had made that change late on Sunday.  Enabled the ability to delte my apps and was able to delete my apps.  Then I thought, would this also fix my sync issue?
    Crossed my fingers and attempted to sync my iPad in iTunes and like Emeril Says "Bam"!  I was able to sync my iPad once again without having to reset my iPad, etc.
    I hope this helps many of you save several hours.  I also think that Apple should add additional verbage to that message such as check that you are not restricting the deletion of apps or something like that.
    Based on an online post, I tried the following and it worked for me:
    1. Windows 7: Control panel > Device Manager
    2. Right click my PC's name > "scan for hardware changes"
    3. Restart iTunes
    4. Restart IPad
    5. Connect IPad
    6. Still I got the same error
    7. Restart iTunes
    8. Restart IPad
    9. Connect IPad
    10. It worked and I was able to sync the apps!!
    Prior to this I had removed few apps, not sure that was a trigger.
    when syncing my ipad I get the message 'iTunes cannot sync apps to the iPad "..." because the apps installed on the ipad could not be determined'; what does this mean?
    I'm pretty sure it's a bug in either iOS 6 or iTunes 10.7.  I kept getting it until I quit iTunes and re-ran it again.  I then started sync from the iPad itself.
  • ITunes returns Error Message cannot sync apps installed on iPad because the apps installed could not be determined
    Hello,
    I have been trying to fix this problem with no success for awhile. When I try and backup and sync my iPad Air iOS 7.1.1 iTunes keeps returning the error message
    " iTunes cannot sync apps to the iPad because the apps installed on the iPad could not be determined"  iTunes is current with all updates and is running on a MacBook Pro 8,3 running OS X 10.9.3.
    Hi RayCanada,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!  I'm not sure what steps you have taken so far to troubleshoot this issue, but I have a couple of suggestions for you to try.  The first thing I would suggest is to quit all apps and sign out of the iTunes Store on your iPad, disconnect it from your Macbook Pro, and turn it off.    Then restart your Macbook Pro.
    iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    iOS: Sign in with a different Apple ID in the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1311?viewlocale=en_US
    Tap Settings > iTunes & App Stores.
    Tap your Apple ID.
    Tap Sign Out.
    Turn your iPad Air on, and sign into your iTunes Store account using the same Apple ID you used to purchase the apps.  Connect it to the MacBook Pro using the Apple USB cable that it came with.  Try to sync again with your iTunes library on your Macbook Pro.
    Alternatively, you can download any iTunes Store purchased content using the same Apple ID directly to your iPad.  Here's how:
    Download past purchases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
    Not sure which Apple ID you used to make purchases?  You can review your entire purchase history using your computer:
    iTunes Store & Mac App Store: Seeing your purchase history and order numbers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2727
    I hope this information helps ....
  • My Ipad will not sync due to apps installed could not be determined
    My ipad will not sync because apssinstalled could not be determined> how is this when everything is purchased through itunes?
    What model iPad and what version of iTunes is on your computer?
    Try this.
    Unplug the iPad from your computer.
    Close the iTunes app on your computer.
    Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    Connect the iPad to your computer and reopen iTunes.
    Hopefully this will correct the problem.
     Cheers, Tom
  • ITunes doesn't sync iPad, because apps can not be determined - how do I fix this?
    For the past day I when I try to sync my iPad, I get the message:
    iTunes cannot sync apps to the iPad, because the apps installed on the iPad could not be determined.
    How do I fix this?
    Have you moved, renamed or deleted the original files?
    Has another programme on your computer moved, renamed or deleted the files?
    Have you just created this iTunes Library?
    Have you recently added the missing music music from an external hard drive?
    If it's none of the above, what have you been doing recently? For example, have you been "sorting" your files in your file manager?
  • ITunes cannot sync apps to the iPod because the apps installed on the iPod could not be determined error message
    I've been getting the "iTunes cannot sync apps to the iPod because the apps installed on the iPod could not be determined" error message for a while. I have tried restoring my iPod but as soon as I try to sync it again (even with nothing changing in iTunes or on the iPod) I get the same error message. Whenever I want to add music to my iPod I have to delete everything and then wait hours for it to restore which is ridiculous. Anyone have any other suggestions for fixing this problem?
    I'm using a 3rd generation iPod touch with 4.2.1 software and iTunes 10.5.3.3
    The fact that there is so many discussions with no clear answer is the problem.
    I went back and looked through all the different suggestions and and tried them all to make sure I didn't miss anything. What finally worked for me was making sure all apps were updated on the iPod and making sure all apps were updates in iTunes (under the Library>Apps tab NOT under devices) and then syncing.
  • The software on iphone has expired + Itunes cannot sync apps to the iphone because the apps installed on the iphone could not be determined + Can't restore = Help!
    Hello guys, I'm begging for your help, I've read so many threads, nothing works for me. I hope you will try to help me
    First message I get when I connect the iphone is
    "The software on iphone has expired and must be updated to a newer version"
    Then it tries to backup but I get
    "Itunes cannot sync apps to the iphone because the apps installed on the iphone could not be determined"
    When I click check for updates it says I have the latest version (5.0)
    When I try to restore I always get "iTunes could not backup the iphone because a session could not be started with the iphone. Please disconnect and reconnect the iphone, then try again"
    Tried that MANY times but no luck.
    This iphone was on a developper account but it is not anymore (removed from developper account).
    I'm the administrator on my PC. When I'm on the summary of my iphone it shows N/A as my phone number.
    Back up to icloud doesn't work because I didn't set it up before it stopped working
    When I try to activate it directly from the iphone I always get "Could not activate iphone. Your iphone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarely unavailable..." (for the past 3 weeks :s)
    I can access my music and everything from itunes.
    I even tried to restore it from the ispw file (using shift + restore) but I got an error message (sorry I don't remember which one) but it didn't work.
    I also tried device manager, select PC, scan hardware for changes (read it worked for some) but not for me after that I don't get the
    "The software on iphone has expired and must be updated to a newer version" and "Itunes cannot sync apps to the iphone because the apps installed on the iphone could not be determined" ...I just get "Itunes could not back up iphone because a session could not be started with the iphone" + "itunes could not sync because a connection could not be established with the iphone"
    Please help me make it work again! I'd go to an apple store but I'm in south-east asia at the moment and there is nothing like it in 700km +
    This little machine would be perfect to travel with, it's a shame it just stopped working like 3 weeks ago, just said I needed to activate it again ...
    Thanks a million times!
    I can't access it on the iphone as I said
    On itunes in summary I have  "Software version: 5.0"
    Yes I tried to restore it
    "When I try to restore I always get "iTunes could not backup the iphone because a session could not be started with the iphone. Please disconnect and reconnect the iphone, then try again" ...did that many times but always the same error message
    "I even tried to restore it from the ispw file (using shift + restore) but I got an error message (sorry I don't remember which one) but it didn't work."
  • ITunes cannot sync apps to the iPod because the apps installed on the iPod could not be determined
    I have a 3rd generation iPod touch. I just downloaded the IOS 5.0, I seem to have all the features (reader, notification center, newsstand, etc.), but I recently experienced a problem.
    After getting the update and restoring my iPod, iTunes started reinstalling all my music, apps, and videos. It reinstalled all my apps last, and before that, I used iTunes to delete a lot of them and organize them into folders. I then re synced it. Midway through this, I had to leave, but I had heard that I could sync my iPod wirelessly if it was connected to wifi and an outlet, so I checked the little box and tried this. However, I then got the error message "iTunes cannot sync apps to the iPod '______' because the apps installed on the iPod could not be determined". All my songs, videos, and 5,800 photos are on there, but half my apps are fully synced and usable, while the other half shows up with a loading bar at the bottom saying "waiting".
    Yes, I have the "Sync Apps" box ticked.
    Yes, my computer is authorized.
    Yes, I have verified that all the apps are in my iTunes.
    Yes, I tried plugging my iPod back into iTunes and manually syncing it.
    I would simply restore it and resync again, but the majority of my photos aren't on my computer, so if I did that, they would be gone. After I installed the IOS 5.0, and my iPod was restored, it automatically put all my photos back. If someone can tell me whether or not this is something that's automatic whenever you restore your iPod (whether it be manually from iTunes or from an update), that would also be greatly appreciated.
    However, what I'm looking for is simply a way to get my other 80+ apps back in working order without having to restore my iPod or anything too complicated.
    EDIT:
    I tried restarting my iPod... now it just says that the iPod cannot be synced because the required disk cannot be found.
    This update is seriously frustrating. I've heard from a lot of people that the wifi iTunes sync isn't working either.
