Ipad as a pen tablet?

i came across an ipad case in one of the apple stores that included a pen. im a graphic design student and i was wondering if there is anyway i could connect the ipad to my new macbook pro and use it with adobe photoshop and illustrator?

Not quite yet, but there's been plenty of publicity about what's coming, like this:

  • IPad as a pen tablet for Adobe Illustrator?

I was getting ready to purchase a Wacom Intuous Pen Tablet. But a better solution my be an iPad. Is anyone using their iPad as a graphic tablet with Adobe Illustrator on your desktop Mac? If so, how does the iPad connect to your desktop? What app, if any, and what stylus have you found works best?
    Thanks for your help.

What the iPad actually does is allow you to use it as a mouse not a pressure sensative tablet.
    Said another way:
What the iPad tricks do is effectively allow you to use the iPad as another monitor, but one that happens to be a touchscreen. Being a touchscreen, your finger (or a blunt stylus) becomes the "mouse."
In other words, it's really just about using your iPad for ordinary remote access (which is reasonable), not about using your iPad as an alternate pointing device.
I agree with Scott. Nowhere near a practical substitute for using a Wacom stylus (and I don't even really like using Wacoms, either).
Ever visited a computer store and played with the HP turnkey system bundles that include a large touchscreen monitor? They predated iOS devices, and they are mostly a marketing flop. They just let you work on your computer as if it's a kiosk.
Who really wants to work that way? It's awkward, cumbersome, slow and laborious. Your hand gets in the way, and you get fingerprints all over the screen. Along comes grossly underpowered, overpriced iOS devices and suddenly everyone wants to use to use their iPads as a kiosk. (Okay, with the addition of zoom and pan gestures. But really...do you get excited about using a kiosk at the airport?)
That's why I much prefer using a stylus over my fingers on iOS devices (zoom jestures be hanged); which, in turn, I still find far inferior to using an accurate, sharp stylus on a 10-year old Palm Tungsten with its elegant and efficient Graffiti handwriting recognition instead of tapping an onscreen querty keyboard with what amounts to the stylus version of a fist-sized brick of sidewalk chalk.
We're all fad-chasing suckers, straining for excuses to waste good money on the lastest techno junk. I'm convinced that when the flash-in-the-pan (okay, marketing inferno) new wears offs, bulb-head aliens visiting earth will find these silly glorified finger-painting devices in the ruins, snicker, and count them among the myriad historic curiosities over which humans wasted ridiculous amounts of energy, time and money.
If you seriously want to pursue this for serious work, that $800 iPad fund that's burning a hole in your pocket is already over 3/4 of the way toward the real thing: a 12" Wacom Cintique; a drawing/painting stylus tablet that is also a monitor.
But c'mon...we all know what this is about. You can rationalize a drawing tablet for getting work done, but you just wanna buy an iPad. ;-)
Meanwhile, I'll still get more productive (paying) work done with a $39 optical mouse. ;-)

  • IPad as graphic pen tablet?

I have illustrator on my mac and own an iPad 3 and graphics pen.
Is there anyway that the iPad can functional as Wacom tablet instead of buying one?
Thank you (and apologies or what is probably a dumb question)
    Genevieve

    1) Wacom Tablets read pressure as you draw. The iPad, thus far, can not do this. There are styluses such as the Jot Stylus which reads pressure. But in my experience it's not the same, or really even close to a Wacom tablet. And heck, if you're going to spend $100 on a Jot Stylus, you'd do better by spending that $100 on a Wacom Bamboo tablet.
    2) The iPad's major issue where drawing is concerened is the need to hover over the tablet surface and only touch the tablet with the stylus. Most humans who draw rest their hand on the surface and draw. You can't do that with an iPad. Spend a day NEVER touching your desk with your wrist or forearm. How long can you work that way? Yes, you can wear a glove to prevent the hand being read by the screen, provided you don't mid that option. And this may not be a big issue if using a more non-traditional set up, such as the iPad on your lap while sitting on the couch and a laptop sitting on the coffee table in front of you.
That being posted, there are apps such as SplashTop, or LogMeIn, for iOS which allow you to log in and control a Mac with an iPad. There are also apps such as MobileMouse which will turn the iPad into, essentially, a big trackpad for the Mac. You can use these apps to control the mouse on the Mac.
So theoretically, yes, you could do what you want. I've tried all these and they do function. The problem arises when there is even a millisecond of delay between the iPad and the Mac. Even a millisecond can feel like a long time where mouse movement is concerned. And, as I've posted, you don't get any pressure, tilt, rotation, readings from the iPad which Wacom tablets do.
You can try it free, just download the iOS apps and the supporting Mac software needed (the iOS apps tell you what to download). But, I suspect you'll find it horribly lacking, especially if you've ever used an actual Wacom tablet, or even one of the other, cheaper, drawing tablets.

  • How to activate a pen tablet on photoshop on a All-in-one computer [touch screen]?

I have a all in one computer touch screen- and I can use a pen tablet right on the screen, it's active- but when I go on PSCS6 and try to use the pen tablet, it is not active onto the screen- where do you go to activate it?? Can you?

That is the question I asked you.  I think you will find that your display only functions as a touch device.   My old Wacom Intuos 3 Tablet was just a tablet device.  My new Intuos 5 Touch is both a Tablet and touch device. When the pen is in close proximity with the tablet surface touch is turned of and it functions as a tablet.  The Wacom device driver has some Touch functions the can be configured to work with Photoshop.  I could configure touch so I could finger paint in Photoshop. Photoshop does not have its own touch support and touch settings.   If you can find a device driver for your displays touch feature that use wintab api. to support a pen interface you may have a chance,

  • Is there a Graphic Pen Tablet that...

Is there a Graphic Pen Tablet that you don't move around by hovering the tip of the pen over the surface? I had one that I did not like that you had to hover the tip over the surface. Touching the surface was only for pressure brushes. Is there a tablet where you can just drag the tip of the pen on the surface to move it around? I find this much more precise.

I don't know of any tablet where you can't touch the pen to the surface. What tablet did you use that you were told, or thought, that you had to hover the pen above the surface of the tablet? Perhaps the pressure sensitivity was just set too high or something was wrong with the tablet.
Wacom tablets are generally felt to be of very high quality and are the ones I encounter most frequently.

  • Cinema LED 24" and Cintiq pen tablet same time connection???

Does anybody tryed to connect LED sinema display (via mini-display port and one USB), and active graphic pen tablet (Wacom Cintiq) as second display simultaneously?? Both devices required DVI or mini-display, how to separate a data signal to different monitors?? My application - retouch in Photoshop CS4, thanks in advance!

For what you want to do, it is not possible through one mini-display/dvi port as the graphics card can only handle 1 output at a time. Check out this little device. It'll turn one usb port into an average quality video output. I have my second Cinema display running off one of these. I wouldn't recommend playing games or anything on these though because the output frame rate is much too low. Check it out.

  • Pen tablet issue on cs6

i am using genuis pen tablet
and its not working properly on illustrator cs6
    Please help

Although this description doesn't tell much about your problem (next time you'd might to be more specific about your system info and what exactly doesn't work), here's one thing you might try:
Download and install a Wacom driver (on top of your Genius driver). You don't need to set it up, it just needs to be there, so Illustrator sees it and is tricked into assuming a Wacom is present. That is a tip I once read on a web site dedicated to Wacom alternatives. I have never tried it, but it sounds sensible enough.

  • Pen tablet

Does anyone use a pen tablet? if so, which one do you use and what do you think are the advantages and disadvantages?

I just bought a Wacom Intuos 4 to use at home, mainly because my hand hurts from using a mouse all day at work.  Unfortunately, I find myself still reaching for the mouse because it is more familiar and therefore quicker.  I have to discipline myself to use the tablet at home.  The effort spent adjusting to a new way of working is the only disadvantage I can think of (aside from the cost, of course!)
I was very sceptical about my being able to use the tablet because my only experience with "writing" on an input surface with a stylus was on my cell phone and signing an electronic receipt for packages when DHL or UPS came to my door.  The glass surfaces of those input devices are so slippery that my handwriting doesn't even look like my own when I sign my name.  I was pleasantly surprised at the Wacom because drawing or writing on it feels similar to writing on paper, so the accuracy is amazing.
This accuracy comes in handy when doing detail work on photos (retouching, selections, etc.) - a mouse just can't compete in that respect, but one can make do. Also handwriting with a mouse is so difficult that to get a good digital handwriting result I have always had to write on paper and then scan the handwriting.  With the Wacom, that is a thing of the past because I can write right on the tablet. In addition to the accuracy, the killer argument in favor of a tablet is the pressure sensitivity.  For digital artists, this means they can use a tablet like using tradition media (pencil and paper, brush and canvas), controlling stroke thickness and opacity just by applying more or less pressure.
I'm sure others with more expertise than I have will chime in

  • Troubleshoot using wacom cintiq 21ux pen tablet with Photoshop cs5

    Hello to all.
got my new Cintiq 21ux today. ! its my first pen tablet and i really love it !
i worked it perfectly on my photoshop cs4 and after watching some videos and reading articles i decided to upgrade to CS5 and that is when all the problem started.
long story short it seems like every time i open photoshop CS5 my wacom keyboard shortcuts and the pen calibration feat' vanish like i never did them and i need to re do them again from scratch.
to be more percise with my broblem:
I spent about an hour fixing the all the keyboard shourcuts on the Wacom "Tablet Properties Shortcut" menu (from the control panel) and i calibrated the pen.
after installing photoshop CS5 I lunched it and when i grabe my pen to try and work in the cs5 i got a messeage "Pen display tablet calibration reminder". i got the same message when i used the tablet for the first time and to my suprise when i went to the "Wacom Tablet Properties" menu - all the shortcuts i made disapper as i have never done them....
I maid a new keyboard shortcuts for the photoshop cs5 and closed the "Wacom Tablet Properties" menu. i opend it again just to make sure that the shortcuts had been saved and they had.
i opend the photoshop cs5 for the seconed time and when i moved my pen close to the tablet i got again the pop up window with the messeage "Pen display tablet calibration reminder".
needless to say - all my keyboard shortcut vanished again as never been maid.
i am using a strong pc computer with windows 7 and i have i downloaded and installed the latest cintiq wacom driver - the 6.1.5-3 driver version.
    thx in advance @
    Pini

  • Intuos Pen Tablet keystroke shortcuts/pen properties not working in Photoshop

Recently got the Intuos Creative Pen Tablet from Wacom but the keystroke shortcuts I set up for the pen in Photoshop are not recognized in Photoshop. Instead, the pen acts with the properties found under the  "All other applications" tab. Anyone know how to fix this?

It's a nightmare trying to keep up with all the name changes Wacom are giving their products.  I don't even know what I own anymore.  Only what I used to own befoer I apparently owned something else.
From what I can see on the Wacom site, this tablet doesn't have Express keys or wheel.  So does it rely on keyboard shortcuts, or does it have a HUD you can pick things from?  If thisa is a new installation, have you tried restarting the computer to make the new properties take?  What version of Photoshop are you using? And does the tablet properties recognize that version of Photoshop?  Did you add Photoshop to the properties?  If so, could you be using say the 32bit version, having set the tablet properties to the 64bit version?
