Ipad audio only through headphone

Is there some setting I've accidentally changed?

Is it all sounds that you now only get through headphones, or do the Music and Videos apps still play through the speakers buy other apps and notifications only through headphones ? If that is the case then have you got notifications muted - only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via control centre or the iPad's taskbar (depending upon the iOS version)
iOS 7 (control centre) : swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen and it's the right-most of the 5 icons in the middle of it (if the icon is white then it's 'on', tap it to turn it grey and 'off').
iOS 6 and below (taskbar) : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar.
The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

My wireless earbuds work just fine, but some third-party apps play audio only through the iPod and iPhone speaker even though the buds are properly connected. Does anyone know why and is there a solution?

Assuming you are using Bluetooth headphones, do the apps have the option to use Bluetooth?
The app should have an option to select the speaker (or wired earphones) or the Bluetooth headphones.

    Hi there @donimuha
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that you are getting sound from the headphones/earplugs but not from the system speakers. I am happy to assist you with this.
As the sound is working through the audio jack, I will assume for now that the audio driver is fine. Please check through the following page, which is very comprehensive. If you are still having a problem it is possibly a hardware issue with the speakers.

  • IPad sends audio only to headphones, AirPlay only transmits sound to ATV2

    Hi everyone,
i have a weird problem: my ipad suddenly stopped making any sounds (i know about the switch). Now, any application with airplay icon shows two options: "headphones" and "apple TV". With headphones, i can hear sound alright.
at the same time, if i try to stream video to ATV2 through airplay, it would only stream sound and no video.
i also have iphone, which streams everything ok.
    i tried restarting and resetting.
any chance i can solve this without restoring ipad?

you can't rely on airplay mirror some apps support the old in app airtune audio only option if the video app in question does you can do it from the apps settings somehow
if not then you need a airport express which does pretty much what airplay mirror on the Apple TV does but it's a audio only

  • Embedding an imovie video (with audio) in Keynote on Ipad, audio only comes out on headphones not external speaker?

When using imovie on ipad to embed music onto ipad keynote slide, sound does not come out external speaker, only through the earbud jack?  Is there a setting that will allow for sound through the external speaker?

Two possibilities I can think of. MAke sure that the side button on your ipad is set to screen lock & not mute. If it is set to mute, you'll need to slide it to unmute it before the speaker will work. Otherwise, it sounds like some kind of software glitch. I'd do a reset (I think you hold down the power button & the button on the top for like 10 seconds, until you get the screen asking if you want to turn your ipad off. Follow through, give it a few seconds, then restart it.

  • Left Audio Only From Headphones Jack With External Speakers

Yes, the balance is set properly under the sound system preferences.
So here's the problem, I have JBL Encounter speakers connected via the headphone jack and since yesterday only the left speaker produces sound.
I've plugged my ipod into the JBL speakers and they work fine. I've also used headphones with my computer and again, left audio only.
I've even switched the right and left satellite speakers and again only left audio is produced... though on the right (side) satellite.
Any thoughts on how to correct this? The nearest apple store is 2 and 1/2 hours away so I'd prefer not to go if there is another fix.
My three month phone service is up but I'm still covered under the apple care for a few more months.
    Thanks in advance.

Sounds as if your headphone jack is either defective or has been damaged by having a cord yanked at some stage, Kanji
It is either a trip to your nearest AASP or a mailing box from Apple to get it resolved. Applecare will cover it if the problem isn't due to accidental damage (though a cat tripping on the cord can be enough to produce such results and the price could accordingly be substantial as the port is mounted on the logicboard on recent MBPs as I understand it) .
You might want to try a regular pair of headphones in the socket to make sure the problem also occurs with them, too, though.
    Cheers

  • IPhone - left channel audio only (speakers & headphones)

I own an iPhone 3G. Audio only comes from the left channel in iTunes, apps etc. This is true whether there are headphones connected or not, which seems to suggest it's not simply a poor connection in the stereo jack.
From what I read there's no software balance control but I wonder if this issue is common or resolvable. I'd love to fix this!
Any suggestions? What can I do to fix it?
    Thanks in advance!

The iPhone includes a single external speaker, but you should hear sound out of both earbuds when listening to music with headphones.
If the same occurs with more than one set of earbuds or headphones, your iPhone probably has a hardware problem if the standard troubleshooting steps do not resolve this which in order are powering your iPhone off and on, an iPhone reset, restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup, and restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.
If no change after these troubleshooting steps and the same occurs with more than one set of earbuds or headphones, you can call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • App that gives option for alarm ONLY through headphones

At some point in the past, I used to be able to configure my settings in such a way that my alarms would go off only through my headphones when they were plugged in. I guess this function has been lost over the course of software updates, but it's become a problem now that my partner and I are on opposite schedules and I need to be the only one who is able to hear it. FWIW, I use those soft headband SleepPhones and have a wireless pair that works via bluetooth, as well as the standard pair that plugs into the headphone jack. I hear the alarm blaring through them, don't get me wrong, but it also blares out loud now and I used to be able to prevent this. Anyone know of any 3rd party apps that allow for a return to this functionality?

  • Blu-Ray audio only through TV internal speakers...not surround.

Just got a Toshiba 50L1400U. Two issues here......
    1) When the HDMI cable from the Panasonic smart Blu-Ray player is connected to the HDMI port #2 on the TV audio only comes from the internal speakers and not out of the surround. The cable box currently functions fine as did the Blu-Ray HDMI connection with our old Toshiba TV with audio coming from the surround. Suggestions?
    2) Is there a way to turn off the bar at the top of the TV screen to not show when it switches between 2 HD screens while changing stations? Meaning some stations are in 480p with most being in 1080p but the bar shows when swtiching between the 2.
    Thank you for any help.

I don't believe there's a way to disable that bar.
As for the sound, you might want to call customer support.

  • The audio does not play back from the speakers of my laptop, it plays only through headphones ?

Hi, I am not able to hear playback of audio from the speakers on my laptop. Only if I connect a headphone I am able to hear. Kindly help resolve.
    Regards,
    Vivek. V.

    Hi
    1) Try a Hard Reset as follows.
Remove any devices connected to the notebook.  Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook - check if the speakers are now working.
    2) Please First check if the speaker icon on the unit is not muted.
    3) Go to device manager and uninstall the Sound driver and restart and unit will install the driver automatically.
    4) Try doing System restore to the date when the unit was working fine.
    5) Try to update the driver from hp.com website for Audio & Bios.
Let us know how it goes!

  • Audio in through headphone jack, out through USB?

Hi community, hoping you all can help me solve an audio puzzle.  I currently play iTunes through a USB digital audio convertor connected to powered speakers.  The system works great (especially with the "remote" app to control it).  However, I would like to play my TV's audio through the same USB device.  I have an oldish macbook pro.  I've confirmed that the headphone jack can be used as input and made this selection in system preferences, where I have also selected the DAC as the output.  The TV out is plugged in to the macbook headphone jack and I can see the audio registering on the little meter in the audio input preferences but I cannot get it to pass through to my speakers.  I've reset the PRAM and SMC and I've fiddled with audio MIDI setup to no avail.  Perhaps this just isn't possible but I'd thougth I'd ask for help here before I gave up.
Oh, and before someone suggests it, the DAC only has USB input, no other options.
    Thanks.

Have you tried using another HeadPhones ?

  • TS2771 bad quality audio coming through headphones. Brand new headphones and they work in other headphone ports.

just bought some new headphines. the quality of the audi through them is gargly and ver ver distoted. they are nice skullcandy headphones. i can get good sound when i push in the headphons really hard to the jack. i treid another hack on my phone and the sound is very nice. the problem is on my ipod.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R".
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.
