IPad backup with iTunes 12.1.2

After updating to OS X 10.10.3 and iTunes 12.1.2:
Local backup of iPad in iTunes on Mac stops all the time on time-out. (wire connected)
Sync and backup to iCloud works fine.
Anybody else encountered this and found a solution?

Check that you have the latest version of QuickTime (7.7.6) installed
Try varying the Play Audio Using setting in Edit > Preferences > Advanced (you'll need to restart iTunes for changes to take effect).  Most users experiencing playback issues who've found that this resolves the issue have reported that setting this to Direct Sound works.
If neither of these produce improvement (and assuming you're running a 64-bit edition of Windows) try installing this alternative version of iTunes:
iTunes 12.1.2 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
The "for older video cards" label is somewhat misleading; as with the previous 12.1 and 12.1.1 releases this provides a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installed, the same as all "64 bit" versions of iTunes prior to 12.1.  As well as video card incompatibility this version may address issues with playback as well as integration with third party tools.
For the third option, see also turingtest2's user tip on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps that may be necessary to completely remove all components of iTunes prior to re-installing.

  • IPad Backup with iTunes 9.2 is taking in excess of 7 hours

When sycning my 64GB iPad (mostly free space no videos) I've had to stop the sync after 7 hours as I was running low on battery. iPad says not charging. Is this a normal amount of time to do a Sync? Is the iPad not supposed to be charging when USB is attached and iTunes is running? Host is a PC running a fully patched version of Windows Vista. I've done this three times. I've rebooted the PC and I've done a hard reset on the iPad withhout any change in the results.

First, I would make sure you have all push notifications turned off, to save battery power while synchronizing.
Next, I would make sure you're logged out of any App, like the Facebook App, that keeps you logged in unless you explicitly log out.
Then, I would reboot your computer before connecting your iPad to attempt to synchronize it.
I suspect the main issue is that sometimes, on some computers, for some reasons I've never researched, the USB port, which should default to high-speed mode (480 megabits per second), drops back to basically USB 1.0 speed (12 megabits per second, if memory serves). With some computers, you need to reboot and then try connecting after reboot to "reset" the USB port.
Another factor might be your iPad-to-USB cable, or the connector either on the iPad (unlikely) or computer (also unlikely, but more likely). Make sure you don't have any kinks or such in your cable, that might indicate it's frayed anywhere, especially at the connectors on each end. Make sure there's no dust in your iPad or USB ports that might interfere with a good electrical connection.
Not entirely scientific, but I'd look at those factors first, before going into fiddling with the iTunes folders, files, etc. which can get you into trouble faster.
    Good luck!

iOS device backups are stored in your iTunes library.
Move your iTunes library to an external drive.

  • Probably a stupid question . . . does the iPad come with iTunes preinstalled?

I'm in need ot a portable way to listen to podcasts and type some notes. Due to low vision I cannot use an ipod or iphone.  I have an imac at home.  Does the ipad come with itunes preinstalled, or would I haave to buy it separately.  I know I'd have to purchase another copy if pages, which I have on my imac.

Yes - but the iTunes that comes installed on the iPad is the iTunes Store where you purchase your media. The iPad comes with a preinstalled iPod App and that is where your music library resides and plays on the iPad - not in iTunes.
You don't have to buy either apps for the iPad.

  • Ipad frozen with itunes logo. reset did not work. reinstall itunes on win xp did not work

ipad frozen with itunes logo displayed. Tried reset both ways. reinstalled itunes on Win XP all without success. Any hint?
    Thanks

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

After syncing iPad Air with iTunes the Info Page no longer shows up.  Doesn't matter if I sync via wi-fi or try another computer.  Without the Info Page how do I sync my calander/contacts/mail ??

I think there's a big ol' discussion in the Mavericks forum about this - some folks have suggested setting up your own CalDAV server so you can continue syncing without having to route things through iCloud.
It may be simpler to go back to Mountain Lion or Lion (assuming you were on either of those). My syncing computer is on Lion and can't go higher so I didn't realize until recently that USB syncing over contacts & calendars was no longer available!

You haven't purchased apps with multiple Apple ID's have you? If you have, you can only sync with one Apple ID in the iTunes library at a time. Whichever ID you are signed into on the computer and the iPad would determine which apps would sync.
Have all of your apps been transferred into iTunes for your iPad?

  • Sync iPad 2 with iTunes on MacBookAir

    Hi!
1.Please don't laugh at me when I say I am not being able to sync my iPad, after having been using it for more than a year now!!
    2. I had been syncing my iPad2 with iTunes on my Windows Vista machine. After my Windows Vista Laptop crashed, i replaced it with a Macbook Air 128GB (MBA). Since hard disk space on the MBA is at a premium, I transferred my iTunes Media Library to a 64 GB USB drive.
    3. Now I tried to sync my iPad with iTunes on my MBA.
    4. iTunes on MBA saw my iPad: sync started: backing up completed without any hitch: and then came the error message "The iPad “Rishav’s iPad” cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the selected items (additional 7.88 GB required)".
    5. I checked the available memory on my MBA, USB and iPad: details:
         a. HDD of MBA: 86.6 GB out of 120.47 GB Free.
         b. USB Drive where iTunes Media Library is located: 39.93 GB out of 64 GB Available.
         c. iPad 2: 7.7 GB out of 58.1 GB Available.
    6. Despite this availability of free memory, the sync is not going through.
    7. The memory utilization within my iPad, as seen graphically on iTunes on my MBA (when iPad is connected to MBA) is as follows:
         a. Audio:      8.10 GB
         b. Video:      7.30 GB
         c. Photos:    7.50 GB
         d. Apps:      14.00 GB
         e. Books:      1.01 GB
         f. Others:      2.60 GB
         g. Free:       17.94 GB
Please advise how I can carry out my sync.
    Regards

    Ok guys! Mystery solved.
I got the crashed Windows Vista machine up..... albeit crawling..... and synced the iPad back with iTunes on it. From the iPad itself, deleted ALL video files (movies and podcasts). From Windows iTunes, by manually managing the audio files, deleted ALL Audio files.
Thereafter got back to MBA iTunes and synced. This time the operation went through.
Thank you for giving the matter a thought. Shared the way I managed to resolve it so that somebody somewhere, trying to do a similar operation and running into similar problem as I, can have some pointers to resolve his/ her issues.
    Thank you everyone.

  • How to stop to sync ipad apps with itunes without loosing everything?

My iPad is synching it's apps with itunes. Now that we have icloud, my ipad already has a backup in the cloud, and the PC backup of my apps is no longer useful. My goal is to stop my apps to sync with itunes on my PC because it is useless, it takes a lot of space on my hard drive (with many apps other 1-2GB each), because it drains my network bandwidth when it syncs, and finally because it makes my music synching with itunes extremely long (because it needs to sync all apps when it sync the music), and all of that without any use.
I tryed to simply uncheck "sync my apps" , but itunes wants to delete all my app and app data if I do so. I searched online and found out that some tryed to let itunes erase them, then use the icloud backup, but it seems that the icloud backup also backup the "sync my apps is checked", so it is not working. I tryed contacting Apple directly but for itunes they say we have to use the Fast Land, which cost money, which is conter logic (why should we pay to report bugs and get support for an unworking product that should work properly in the first place?), and also very frustrating.
I got poor support by Apple over the years, but I now that the best support often comes from the people that uses the product itself, and that is why I am trying to get the answer from you guys over the support communities.
None of us is paid to help each other, so thank you in advance for your time!
PS: Apple; fast lane needs to be free, it's not normal to have to pay to get the service every company in the world gives freely...

How do I keep these computers in sync in iTunes without iTunes re-arranging my iPhone home screen and corresponding app icons?
You don't.  Each sync-able item (apps, music, contacts, calendar, etc) can only have one source.  You don't see it because all of the iTunes libraries have the same apps, but if they didn't, it'd be adding and deleting apps too.  So each type you sync, the one you're currently syncing with becomes the authority.
Since you state that your goal is for all the libraries to match, there's no reason to be syncing them all.  Pick one, designate it as the authority, and on the other two, don't sync apps.

  • Problems syncing iPad or iPad Mini with iTunes......

It all started when I tried to download some items bought on iTunes onto my iPad 2. For some reason it kept going through the download sequence then at the last moment they failed. Unfortunately I was nowhere near my computer at the time. After a couple of appointments at the Genius Bar I found I could download the items if the iPad was set up from 'New' - not much use as I wanted all my old apps back on. I sold the iPad in favour of an iPad Mini and had access to a computer too. Again, I could not download bought media from the Cloud but additionally I found I couldn't sync other Movies and TV Shows through iTunes.
    The common denominator was my iCloud account - more specifically my iPad back-up on iCloud (my iPhone worked fine). If I set up an iPad as a 'New Ipad' during a complete and full restore then transferring media with iTunes was OK. However, as soon as I did a restore from my iCloud back up, iTunes and iPad refused to 'talk'. It seemed there was something corrupt in my iPad's iCloud account. The only solution was to delete that part of the account and 'reinstall' it. Here is how I achieved it on iTunes 11.0.2;
    1.     Carry out an iCloud back up (just in case!).
    2.     Plug iPad into computer/iTunes.
    3.     On the iPad Summary page, select to back up to computer (encrypt back-up is up to you).
    4.     Click the button to 'Back Up Now'.
    5.     On the top menu bar select 'File', then 'Devices', then 'Transfer Purchases From ****'s iPad'. This can take some time depending on the size of the iPad.
    6.     At this point all the iPad settings and apps should all be saved (and on iCloud too!).
    7.     On the iPad Summary page click to restore iPad. At this point the computer may have to download the operating system from the internet first which can take a time depending on your internet connection.
    8.     Once restore is complete follow instructions on computer/iPad UNTIL.....
    9.     .....when it offers to set up iPad as New or from iCloud or Computer back up ensure you select COMPUTER BACK-UP.
    10.     Again, it will take an age as all the settings and app transfer back onto your iPad.
    11.     Once done have a go at transferring some media such as a film or TV show and all should be good now.
If happy then its time to ditch that iCloud problem....
    12.     on the iPad go into 'Settings', then 'iCloud', then 'Storage & Backup', then 'Manage Storage' and there should be a list devices that back-up to the iCloud. Select the correct iPad that you have been having problems with.
    13.     At the bottom of the page is the option to 'Delete Backup'. Select this and that should be your 'problem' gone.
    14.     I at this stage restarted the iPad and computer and made sure all was well and they were still 'talking' to each other.
    15.     If you wish you can then go ahead and re-establish an iCloud back-up of your iPad. Once the backup is complete do one final check to ensure iTunes and iPad 'talk' properly.
    JOB DONE!! (Hopefully!!)

Some of the suggestions in this support article might help.
iOS Device Not Recognized in iTunes for Windows.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
If this happens to me - I quit iTunes, restart my Mac, restart the iPad and then try again and that always works for me. It's a little different in the Windows OS because there are a number of other issues that can be causing this problem, but you have nothing to lose with the "restart everything" approach.

  • IPad 2 with itunes 10.2.2.12 syncing issues

I have an ipad 2 and itunes 10.2.2.12
I synced my ipad when i got it and now i want to link it up with my itunes to copy some of my ipod songs over.
the problem i am having is, when i connect my ipad it is coming up with the options to set up the ipad, and the only options are:
-set up as a new iPad
    - restore from the backup of: monkeypaws iPad [this is the coeerct name of the ipad]
    Last Synced: 26/03/2011 5:16 PM
    Continue
now from what I can tell neither options of these are good. it reads to me that it will either wipe it all and start it up as new. or restore it to how i have it 2 months ago when it was new. so I will lose all the apps, games and videos I currently have installed on it, and every thing i have saved from those apps and games. is this correct? is there any way to skip this n get the computer to match itself up to what is in the iPad??
    Thanks

FWIW, I setup AirPrint for WIndows over the weekend. This is a free WIndows app that you install as a service on your Windows desktop/laptop. That then acts as an AirPrint server. On the iPad, when you come to select the printr you want to use, any printers accessible by the Windows machine apears and can be printed to.
It is a bit fiddly to set-up but it worked fine for my network attached Brother laser. It's worth a go:
