IPad backup with Time Capsule

Anyone heard if the iPad will be able to wirelessly backup?

...can the Touch back up wirelessly ?
No. But... You can connect your iPod touch to your Mac and iTunes will sync with it. Then when your Mac is backed up to the Time Capsule your iTunes info will be backed up.

IS there a way to make the backup automatic like with Time machine?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
iPhones and iPads work with the Time Capsule, but not to use it to back them up. You can only use the hard drive of your Time Capsule from a PC or Mac, so you can't back them up to the Time Capsule

  • Initial Time Machine Backup with Time Capsule

    Hello,
I just started to back everything up with Time Capsule and Time Machine. The backup is 45 GB so it's going to take a while. Two questions:
    1. There is a Volume created on my Desktop called "Backup of [My Computer Name]". Is this supposed to happen?
    2. In the actual drive, there is a Sparse file, not the usual backups.backupdb folder that is created when attaching a drive via USB. Is this supposed to be like that as well?
    Thanks!

Thank you for the response. I have a couple more questions.
    1. Is there a way to manually go through the files? I used to be able to when it was backing up locally through USB.
    2. If I change the folder name of the location of the Time Machine backups, do I have to start my backups all over again?
    Thanks!

  • Connecting iPad 2 with Time capsule via speedport

    Hey guys!
Can I connect my iPad 2 with my Time capsule which is connected to my Router (speedport)? I don't want to Switch the wifi Connection between Router and TC all the Time.
I Hope you can help me with this!
    Regards

Open the network preferences and make sure the ethernet is getting an IP from the TC.. you do not need to change any settings .. all you need is network connection.. if the ethernet is working just turn off airport for the time the backup is going on. Once you turn off airport in the MBP the connection will be forced to ethernet. You can do it more correctly by rearranging the order of preference for network connection.. but for now.. just turn off airport.

  • I've installed mountain lion. Now I can't make backups with time capsule

Since I installed Mountain Lion on mij Mac Book Pro my Time capsule doesn't regognizes my time capsule

    I had the same problem.
First see to that you are connected to the same wifi of course
Start the airport utility and connect.
Click your TC and you need to login to it to see further details, do that if not done already.
Now open your TC settings (using the icon in the menybar for example)
Choose harddrive and remove the one already chosen as backup unit
Go back and turn off the TC backup on the large ON/OFF Switch unde the name Time Machine
Now go to finder and connect to your TC
Find the created failed backup spars bundle and delete it. Might take a while.
You might have to change your computer name under System settings-> Share to be able to delete the old TC backup.
Now go back to the TC Settings and choose your TC as the backup harddrive and turn TC back in ON with the ON/OFF Switch.
    Start the backup and enjoy.
    I hope

  • [OT] External media drive - Backup with Time Capsule

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro with 250GB HD and I want to get an external hard drive to store my large video files. I already have a 1TB Time Capsule that I use to backup my laptop. I would like the external drive to be big, either 1TB or 1.5TB, so I don't believe the Time Capsule would be large enough to completely back up the laptop and the external drive. I also would like a drive that would power up/down depending on my laptop's wake/sleep status, so I don't always have to power it manually. I have several options:
    1. Buy 750GB firewire external drive and have laptop and drive backup to 1TB Time Capsule. I'm not sure if Time Capsule allows multiple drives to backup to it. My concern though is if my drives get near full, the 1TB still won't be able to fully backup both drives as they cycle large files.
    2. Buy 2 external hard drives, connect 1 directly to the laptop and 1 to the USB port on my Time Capsule. I'm wondering whether Time Machine could perform 2 simultaneous backup paths: A. laptop to Time Capsule; B- external drives to each other.
    3. Connect a Raid 1 drive setup to USB port on Time Capsule via the Guardian Maximus:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/GM8U27H10G64/
This would be an elegant method that would enable redundancy in one place. Only concern is performance would be bottlenecked by USB 2.0 as I'm used to performance of Firewire 800 or Gigabit ethernet (I do video work)
Also, I've noticed some NAS storage enclosures but I'm hoping the Time Capsule is the best option for my needs.
I think option 3 is my best solution, but was just curious about other peoples' setups. Mac users never cease to amaze me with their creativity and innovation.
    Thanks,
    Alexander

USB isn't going to be the right at all for Video media files.
Time Capsule has no limitations to the number of drives it can back up... just that space limitation...
Most of us don't back up media files unless they are from tapeless formats such as RED, or P2 etc.. then we're looking at a lot more FW drives, or better yet, a tape drive to back up media with. Quantum makes these. If you are shooting from tape though, just backing up your internal HD is all you really have to do... as you can recapture from tape if the media drive goes down.

  • Failed backup with Time Capsule, how to correct Error 11?

I just recently bought the Time Capsule and started using it with my MacBook. It performed the initial backup just fine, but then about two weeks after, I started getting failed backup messages. I recently checked this discussion forum and tried some of the suggestions with no success. So then I launched Consule (like one of the discussion threads recommended) and typed backupd and copied and pasted what was recorded when I tried to run the backup again. Can anyone help me make sense of what is going on here and what Error: 11 means and how to solve it? Thanks.

  • Backup with Time capsule and external HD

I have a harddrive to backup to but when I choose it, a message comes up saying it is going to remove everything from the HD before backup and is that ok....no...it's not ok...do I need a backup specific harddrive?

If you're using Time Machine, you need to back up to a drive formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), which includes the one in the Time Capsule.

  • Can't access iPhoto 11 backup with Time Capsule/Michine since Lion upgrade

I just upgraded to Lion OS and now whenever I try to access my iPhoto backup, it only opens my desktop folder (pages and pages) instead of my iPhoto.  I've never had trouble before - and iPhoto is active when I click on the Time Machine icon.
    Help!!

Hi Bob.  How do I "close" time machine so I can restart it (once I restart my Mac).
Then, I can't find the "browse backups" from the file menu in the upper left corner?   What am I missing?
Thanks for helping me through this!
p.s.  Also, do you know if it's actually true that we can only restore the entire iPhoto collection instead of just certain events or photos?  That seems extreme if I can't ever just restore a set of pictures.   I know I saw that restriction for iPhoto 9 or something but 11?

  • Anyone Use Different Backup Software with Time Capsule

I love the concept of Time Machine + Time Capsule, but there are too many problems and I have wasted too many hours trying to get it to work properly. So...
Has anyone had success using different backup software (maybe Apple Backup) with Time Capsule?
I would love to go back in time and simply:
1-Plug my computer into the drive (wireless is fine too)
    2-Launch my backup software
    3-Backup

Really not sure. I've always just done bootable backups...
You CAN create a bootable backup onto a sparse disk image on an Airdisk, but of course it wouldn't really be bootable until the backup was cloned back directly to a drive. So I guess you could back up that way, and if you needed it you could restore back to your main HDD, from the sparse image, and the computer would be restored and bootable. I think.
My original goal was to have both Time Machine backups and SuperDuper clones ll being done over the Time capsule/Airdisks, but now (if I decide to get an AEBS or TC) I will likely only do the Time Machine backups over the wifi, and still have an occasional clone made to a drive plugged in via usb.
To your last comment though...if your only going to do the User folder, it may make as much sense to just use Time Machine, since you can restore/migrate from a TM backup. Although it may be smart to do a user folder backup using BOTH Time Machine and SuperDuper, for redundancy.
Sigh, always so many options, and usually doesn't work the way you want it to...

  • My MacBook Po can not connet with Time Capsule for Internet. Back-up are ok

    Hi to all,
If I connect the ADSL line to Time Capsule no Internett available.
If connect the live with eternet cable to MacBook pro all is fine.
Mack book pro do all the backup with Time Capsule in WiFi
Hot to have the MacBook connectid to Time Capsule in WiFe for internet too??
Easy explanation please, I'm really beginner

Your original question was How to use Time Capsule for wireless back-up but not Internet?
There is no reason for you to connect the tower....or anything else...using Ethernet if your goal remains that same as you stated.
If you are asking if you can backup the Tower using Ethernet, and not wireless, then you can connect the tower to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule....not the WAN port.
Yes, it appears to work without plugging into my tower.
    Correct, it will work.
I just have to select the network that it created. Of course, I have no access to the Internet while this is happening and it can not auto backup, unless I am on that wireless signal.
As I stated, that is the downside to trying to back up without an Internet connection.  You have to establish another network...and backup over that network.
If you are asking if you can stay connected to the work network while also backing up to your non-Internet "private" network, that is not possible.

  • Problem with Time Capsule after backup session

I have a problem with Time Capsule after a backup session. Our two Macs (on Maverick) loose connection with the station and the only thing that seems to help is unplugging the Time Capsule  and starting it again! After the next backup session the same thing happens again. The Macs seem not to be able to hold on to the connection and continually loose it.  The iPhones and iPads that we have (4 units) are not affected - it is the Mac Mini and Mac Powerbook that experiences this problem!
I would be grateful for your help!
    Thor

This is standard Mac issues and has been a bug floating around since Lion.. it hits some people worse than others.. but once it starts it is awful hard to get rid of.
Just to confirm the connection to internet is not a problem?? Just the hard disk drops out?
    I recommend you
    1. Reset the TC to factory.. and start over with all new names.. short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.
TC name and wireless name/s should conform. By default the disk share name is data which is fine.
    2. Mavericks has changed over from using AFP to SMB for network filesharing.. why Apple why??
This is unhelpful to say the least. Many many people are struggling with TC and being unable to mount the network drive.
So do it manually and force it back to AFP.
In Finder use top menu, Go, Connect to Server.
Type AFP://TCname or TCIPaddress (it must be the network name of actual TC.. or its IP address)
When the computer locates the resource it will ask for a password.. it is public by default.. supply your password or public and save it in the keychain.
    3. Delete the existing TM setup and start over.. See A4 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
I cannot promise this will fix it but should reduce the problem to now and then.. rather than every time TM needs to backup.

How can I connect my new MacBook Air to a LaCie hard disk with TIme Capsule backup from my old Imac? LaCie has USB 2.0, FireWire and eSata ports.

You can direct connect your MBA to the LaCie via USB 2 cable.  If you have an Apple Airport Router you can USB connect the LaCie drive to the router and then use Airport Utility to configure it.  Time Machine can access it either way.
