IPad Backups and Enterprise PC Management

In my company, we image Windows PCs as a deployment strategy. In some cases when troubleshooting a problem, it is easier and quicker for our end users to simply reimage the PC rather then spending hours troubleshooting the problem.
As we deploy iPads to the enterprise, we will need to have iTunes added to our image. If someone inserts their iPad into their PC running iTunes, iTunes will backup the unit problem. If say the following week, we need to replace their PC (either with a new one or we reimage their PC), the next time they plug in their iPad into the PC, I believe it will wipe the unit, because when the unit was activated, it was "married" to the original PC it was activated on. Is there a way to prevent iPads from wiping themselves when a new PC is provisioned for an employee or their existing PC is reimaged? If not, am I able to simply copy the iTunes folder from the original PC to the new one to keep the "marriage"?

If you update iTunes to the latest version on the machine you plan to retire or wipe, then copy the itunes folder from the user profile in Windows or Mac. On the new machine or freshly imaged machine, update the iTunes so that it's running the same version. Just copy that itunes folder back to the proper location under the users profile and all should be ok. the kay here is to be sure to run the same version on the old and new, hence why I suggest updating prior to moving so that you have a one to one version. going from an old to a newer version will cause issues. Likely due to the database iTunes uses being a different version.

  • Ask the Experts: Single Sign-On with Cisco WebEx Meetings Server, Internet Reverse Proxy, and Enterprise License Manager Solutions

    With Arun Kumar
Welcome to the Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions about Single Sign-On (SSO) with Cisco WebEx Meetings Server (Cisco WMS), Internet Reverse Proxy (IRP), and Enterprise License Manager (ELM) solutions.
SSO standards such as Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) 2.0 provide secure mechanisms for passing credentials and related information between different websites that have their own authorization and authentication systems. SSO enables simplified user authentication and management.
IRP provides public access, enabling users to host or attend meetings from the Internet and mobile devices. Although IRP is optional, Cisco encourages its use because it provides a better user experience for your mobile workforce.
    Example question topics include:
SSO profiles and SAML 2.0 Identity providers (IdPs) supported in Cisco WMS
    Basic configuration of IdPs
Interaction between IdPs and Cisco WMS
Difference between the cloud client implementation and Cisco WMS
Meeting access behavior in a split-horizon network topology with SSO
How to enable public access to Cisco WMS
    Cisco WMS ELM operations
Cisco WMS ELM compared to other unified communications ELM or standalone ELM and compatibility/inoperability between them

  • Path of iPad backup and module name

When I sync my iPad it makes a backup. Can someone tell me where ( what path )
on a Windows 7 machine this backukp goes to ? Also does the backup overwrite any previous backup or create it's own dated version.
Is it possible to manually move these backups to an alternate location ?

Is it possible to manually move these backups to an alternate location ?
Yes, but iTunes won't "see" them in the alternate location. So deleting *or moving* the backup file ends up being recommended as a troubleshooting technique if the existing backup (in the normal is damaged, as per:
[iTunes: "Backup could not be saved on the computer" alert message|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2529]
So, if you wanted to have multiple different backups, you could perhaps drag a copy of the file to a folder called (say) "DateX", another to "DateY" and so on. That way, if you wanted to restore to DateX you could drag the DateX backup to the standard location, if you wanted to restore to DateY you could drag the DateY backup to the standard location, and so on.

  • Enterprise Compensation Management (ECM) Info Request

I apologize for this elementary question, but can someone point me to a link on how to setup ECM - both on the portal side and the abap side if applicable? I have scoured the web and can find lots of information on what ECM is and how to use it, but I can't find any technical information. Is it an sca file that I need to download or is it a switch I need to turn on? Any information at this point would be helpful.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
For any technical details or configurational details of ECM you should go through following documentations
    1) K86: Enterprise Compensation Management
    Business Process Procedure
    and
    Enterprise Compensation Management (K11)
    Building Block Configuration Guide
Both these documents will help you alot in understanding ECM

  • Can I transfer all my old iPad apps and data to a new ipad3?

I am thinking of buying the new iPad 3, will I be able to transfer everything from my current iPad?

    Sure you can.
Continue to backup the old iPad until you get the new one. You should back up and sync with iTunes. Syncing with iTunes will transfer all of your purchased content into iTunes on your computer.
When the new iPad arrives - you can plug in into your computer, launch iTunes and iTunes will ask if you want to restore from the iPad backup or set up as new. Restore from the iPad backup and then sync with iTunes to move all of your iTunes content onto the new iPad.
If you want to wipe the old iPad in order to sell it - go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Settings.
If you want to restore from an iCloud backup - read this.

  • I have an ipad 1 and an iphone 4s, how do I manage these in iTunes given that they are different ios versions (5 and 6)?

My iPhone 4s is on iOS 6 and that is fine (with various known issues of course). My iPad is using iOS 5 and does not support iOS 6, and here lies the problem.
iTunes suggests updates to my Apps, some of which become iOS 6 only making them unusable on my iPad. I can't transfer these iOS 5 compatible versions of the Apps to iTunes because they are seen as older, and if I remove them from the iPad I can no loinger install them as I can't run iOS 6 on the iPad.
This is madness and very poor design by Apple whereby their closed management tools (iTunes) cannot actually manage a situation they have crerated themselves.
If I could at least identify which Apps in my library where iOS 6 only, I could feasibly try to locate these in my Time Machine backups and keep them manually backed up for my iPad, but Apple haven't even though tof allowing me to do this. Or perhaps they have in a hiddne feature somehow!!
Does anyone know if there is a way to identify Apps that only support iOS 6?
Even if this required a terminal search for a string within .plist files or something.
Help, my iPad is losing functionality by the day...
    Thanks
    Chris

And I can't find this "on this page" item people are talking about.

  • I want to find any backup and recovery solution for SharePoint server 2013 enterprise

    Dear Expertise,
Recent set up SharePoint server 2013 Enterprise, and looking for backup and recovery solution, does the built in Windows Backup can handle it, and how?
    KF

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to know some backup and restore solution for SharePoint 2013.
There are two Technet articles about the backup and restore, you can have a look at them.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee428315(v=office.15).aspx
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee662536(v=office.15).aspx
You can also use some third-part software tools to achieve the same scenario.

  • Configuring Backups in Enterprise Manager 10.2.0.2.0

    Hello,
I am trying to configure backups in Enterprise Manager. Whenever I try to provide the host credentials, I receive the following:
"Connection to host as user Administrator failed: ERROR: Wrong
    password for user"
This machine is a primary domain controller, and therfore has no local accounts. All accounts are through the domain via Active Directory. I came across a plug-in for Enterprise Manager for AD, but it is only for Windows Server 2003. Since I cannot authenticate locally for host credentials, how would I work around this in order to setup a backup schedule? Thanks.
    Neal A. Ferguson
    [email protected]

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, this did not seem to resolve the issue, as I still received the error message when attempting to provide the Administrator's credentials. I also added the domain admin to the Log on locally option, but this did nothing as well. Is there something else that I need to put in to the fields when attempting to set up a backup job?

  • HT4847 How i can download my backup data? And how to manage the data on i Cloud?

How i can download my backup data? And how to manage the data on i Cloud?

You can't download an iCloud backup, except to restore it to your device should you ever need to.
iCloud data can be managed within the apps on your iPad.  Any changes to the data within the apps corresponding to the data you are syncing with iCloud will take place in iCloud.  You can also manage some of this data on icloud.com from your computer.
This article explains ways to manage your iCloud storage space, should you need to reduce you iCloud storage: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4847.

  • Message about iCloud backup and it won't clear.  It also won't allow me to do anything else.  iPad. It is plugged in and now locked, the slides for getting in and the power off don't work, but the message stays.  I have hit ok numerous times.

Message about iCloud backup and it won't clear.  It also won't allow the iPad to do anything else.  It is plugged in and now locked.  The slides to open iPad and the one to power off do not work.  I have the iPad plugged in and have pressed ok on the message numerous times.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try restarting the iPad and seeing if that helps.
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.

  • Backup and Recovery of Enterprise

I've inherited an instance of Enterprise XI R2, and have discovered that it is a critical system, but is not being backed up.  I'm new to this, please bear with me.
I found the backup and recovery guide (https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/c09a069c-6a3f-2b10-3399-e0ed04d866f8), and it gives a good high level overview, but I need a little more info.
    Questions:
    1.  The guide states that "The Central Management Server (CMS) and all job-processing and Performance Management servers should be stopped by an automated script."  Is there a specific order that the servers need to be stopped and started in?  Would anyone be willing to share their script?
    2.  I assume that when the servers are down, anything scheduled to run during that time will be lost.  i.e., the server won't check for missed jobs caused by the stopped state once the it resumes, correct?
    3.  The only thing that I need to back up on the file system is the contents of FileStore (C:Program FilesBusiness ObjectsBusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5FileStore*.*), correct?
    4.  This looks like a vanilla install using MySql.  Would anyone be willing to share their MySql backup scripts?  Is there a default password for MySql?  How can I determine this password?  How many databases are there?
    5.  I plan to create a backup script that stops the servers, copies the FileStore path to a backup folder (using xcopy to preserve the archive attribute), have MySql generate a backup file to the same folder, and then start the servers.  This folder will be written to tape nightly (fulls on weekends, incrementals during the week).  Is there anything else that I might need to backup?  Config files?  Ini's?
    Thanks!!!

    1. There is no specific order, but last to go down should be CMS and first to come up should be CMS.
    @echo off
    Stop Business Objects Services
    echo
    net stop "BOBJCrystalReportApplicationServer"
    net stop "BOBJEventServer"
    net stop "BOBJProgramServer"
    net stop "BOBJOutputFileServer"
    net stop "BOBJProcessServer"
    net stop "BOBJInputFileServer"
    net stop "BOBJDestinationServer"
    net stop "BOBJCrystalReportspageserver"
    net stop "BOBJJobServer_Report"
    net stop "BOBJCentralMS"
    exit
Similarly to Start services, instead of stop use start and put CentralMS at the top and save it as a batch file.
    2. Jobs running when the server goes down will fail, other recurring jobs will wait till the server comes up.
    3. Yes, backup File Store & Database.
    4. Not sure about the default password for My SQL, you should be able to backup the MySQL database, I have done that once.
    5. Backup FileStore & Database.

  • TS3992 My iPad hasn't backed up to iCloud for 2 weeks so I've connected it to my laptop and it still won't backup and this is AFTER I paid for extra iCloud storage. I'm so frustrated because it keeps saying back-up failed but I don't know why.

My iPad hasn't backed up to iCloud for 2 weeks after repeated attempts even AFTER I paid extra for more iCloud storage. I've connected it to my laptop and it still won't backup. I'm so frustrated because it keeps saying back-up failed but I don't know why. Please help, thanks!

To back up to your computer, right-click on the name of your iPad on the left side of iTunes and click Back Up.  (If running iTunes 11, first go to View>Show Sidebar.)
To get your iPad to back up to iCloud again, try deleting your last backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on again.  If it still won't back up, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.
If it still won't back up you may have network issues connecting to the iCloud server.  Solutions to that include power-cycling your wireless router (unplugging it for 15 seconds, then plugging it back in), resetting network settings on your phone (in Settings>General>Reset), updating the firmware on your router, and changing the router's DNS settings to use Google's public DNS (see https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using).

  • Removing icloud backup and restoring backup to ipad

My dad has an ipad air.  He has been using icloud backup.  For some reason he has decided that he doesn't want to use the icloud backup, but of course he doesn't know how to get out of it or how to just use a backup from his computer.  He has asked me to help him, lucky me, I have to ask everyone for help.
I believe he can manually back-up to his computer from his ipad using itunes.  First of all, does that in fact back up everything from his ipad?
If I understand correctly, if he deletes the icloud backup, then everything that icloud has backed up is also deleted from his ipad?  Is that correct?
If so how should he proceed:  Should he first make sure he has a correct backup of his ipad through itunes to his computer, assuming that this backup automatically backs up everything.  Then, does he delete everything that icloud has backed up on his ipad under "managing storage".  If he turns off Photos and Documents and Data under the icloud account then a message comes up saying that all documents and data stored in icloud will be deleted from this ipad.  So, he wants to be sure that if he restores through itunes that everything gets put back on his ipad.
This is confusing to me.  I just want to be sure that he doesn't end up losing anything in the process.
Any easy procedures to help me do this for him without causing headaches or loss of data would be appreciated.  I have tried searching on help topics and ipad and itunes help, but it gets rather overwhelming.  I know I can just turn off icloud backups so that it doesn't do that anymore, the problem is that my dad doesn't want the stuff in icloud that is already there to stay there.
    Thanks.

Are you sure it's done restoring?  Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage and Backup and scroll to the very bottom.  It will say Restoring iPhone if it isn't finished.

Updated iPad 1 to IOS 5. When trying to restore my iPad from my backup it gets half way through and the iPad reboots and iTunes says "An error occurred while restoring this iPad (-1)"
I have tried to restore my contacts and company data at least 20 times and every time half way through THE iPAD REBOOTS! When it boots back up it is at the brand new iPad screen.
This makes me angry as I do not use the iPad for fun and games. I use it for business. My company data and records for the last year are gone. ALL of my out standing customer invoices are gone. ALL payments received are gone! ALL Business contacts and emails ARE GONE! All my company, personal email accounts and settings ARE GONE!
What am I supposed to do now? In 6 hours I have to get on the road and conduct business with a empty blank factory out of the box iPad. How am I supposed to know who owes me money or who has paid their bills Apple? All of my meetings and calendar dates are GONE!
Everything was supposed to be backed up and restored after the update!
Question???WHY DID YOU MAKE THIS UPDATE WIPE OUT ALL SETTINGS AND APPS ON THE iPAD??? All the other updates left everything on the iPad intact and ONLY upgraded the IOS,and when it was done everything was still there.
Yes! I have done everything. Rebooted computer, checked for updates, Hard booted iPad, Factory restored iPad to ios 5 twice, tried every usb port I have, unplugged all other usb components.
Everytime half way through "Restoring iPad from backup..." The iPad turns off shows a spinning circle then shows the Apple logo and takes me to the brand new iPad setup screen.
Apple, you have no idea the level of stress you have created today.....

Check the console app to see if there are any error messages. I had one app showing an issue (Pet Hotel) the error was (truncated):
    ERROR: Restore message response: 102 rename error: File name too long (63) at path "/var/mobile/Library/SafeHarbor/com.pocketgems.tappethotel/Container/Documents/ savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHis tory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGa meHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/sa vedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHisto ry/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGame History/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/save dGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory /savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHi story/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedG ameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/s avedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHist ory/savedGameHistory/1313349538-pocket_gems_crash_report.txt" (MBErrorDomain/102)
I manually snyc'ed that particular app and then re-ran the restore and am now the proud owner of a working iphone. Not sure it is the same problem or app but looking in the console was the key!
