IPad bluetooth keyboard key mapping/customizing

I'm using iPad Air 2, and also using zagg folio bluetooth keyboard.
Since I am a foreigner living in USA, I often have to type two different languages in the same document.
I know I can change language by cmd+space key, but it slows down my typing. Is there any way to map the right cmd key into language key?
I don't really use right cmd key so if possible I want to change that key to language key, or just make it as a shortcut for cmd+space so I can use it to change language when I'm typing.

As far as I know, there is no way for users to modify the kind of mappings you are talking about in iOS.  It's only possible in the full OS X.

  • Ipad bluetooth keyboard not working with remote desktop

My clients ipad bluetooth keyboard works any other time, just not when connected to his servers via the remote desktop. PC Windows 7 Servers.
I'm trying to get the keyboard information, but any ideas?

Are you using an app like LogMeIn Ignition to access your servers? I believe that LogMeIn Ignition requires you to tap a little keyboard button near the bottom of the screen to activate use of the keyboard (that's how it works in Splashtop Remote, can't be much different in LogMeIn Ignition.)
Are you sure the app you have supports blue tooth keyboard support with remote desktop? (not sure if they have to, I just recall seeing this in Splashtop patch notes awhile ago.)

  • IPad bluetooth keyboard disconnecting

I have an app called RDP that allows one to connect to their computer at work.
Problem is the keyboard bluetooth disconnects when RDP is opened. What a bummer it was my primary reason for ordering the keyboard. When I have a document open on the iPad its own keyboard takes up half the screen. Therefore the bluetooth purchase.
    Any why around this?
    Thanks Larryb

Use a different RDP app. I use [iTap RDP|http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/itap-rdp-remote-desktop-for/id317062064?mt=8 ] and a Zaggmate Bluetooth keyboard. Note that not all keys are passed to the Windows environment correctly by all keyboards. For example, on the Zaggmate, it appears that the Command key is not recognized as the Windows key, which it is when using other keyboards. But the "basic" keys work fine.

  • App / Browser Support for iPad bluetooth keyboard

I recently purchased the Zagg Slim Book (a bluetooth keyboard case) for my iPad air 2.
The main reason I bought this was so that I could use cloud IDE (code editors) such as cloud9 and code anywhere.
    However,
With these websites and other similar websites, i cannot use the arrow keys and on some websites I cannot even type at all within the site.
I used a keyboard checker website to see if it recognized my key presses, and while I was able to type, it said I was not pressing anything.
    - Note: I tried 5 different browsers including safari.
This leads me to believe that the keyboard is not doing the typing directly; rather, it must be handing the key presses off to the iPad which handles the output in some special way.
    So,
Can someone confirm what I am assuming?
I need to know how a bluetooth ipad keyboard is different than a normal keyboard so that I can know which one (if any) I should buy in order to use it within websites.
    - is it up to the keyboard manufacturers to determine how the output works?
    - Does apple have some sort of standard or api which manufacturers use to make their keyboard?
    - is there some sort of keyboard settings that I can change in the iPad settings that will change the output type?
Sorry if this belongs in developer section, I am hoping this is the right place.

Ahhh. This makes total sense now that I think about it.
However, why do apps work but websites do not?
    Thanks!

  • I want to get a bluetooth keyboard for an ipad mini.  Does it matter if its an ipad bluetooth keyboard. dont need the case

I want to get a bluetooth keyboard for an ipad mini.  The case doesnt matter.  But the one i'm looking at says IPAD or IPAD2  does it matter or will it work with the mini?

    It might, it might not.
I have this keyboard for my mini and like it a lot.

If you don't plan on carrying it, the keyboard that is sold for use with the Mac is a great keyboard because it is full size.

  • Bluetooth keyboard: keys without scan codes

    Hi,
I've bought a HP Touchpad Bluetooth keyboard and it works brilliantly, even some of the special keys on the top row, such as volume up/down, play/pause and home, work out of the box. However, three others in that row don't even seem to produce scan codes, at least showkey -s doesn't show any.
My question: I;m sure that the HP Touchpad uses them, so they must produce some kind of signal. Is there any way to find out which ones, and to catch them?
    Thanks for any help!

You can use the acpi handler scripts to link an action to them.
I think I wasn't clear. My setup is a notebook with a keyboard attached and an extra bluetooth wireless. Two of the three keys that show no results on the bluetooth keyboard have equivalent keys on the attached keyboard. When I press these keys on the bluetooth keyboard, acpi_listen shows nothing. When I press the equivalent keys on the attached keyboard, they work, as acpi_listen shows.
Sorry for being unclear on that, and thanks for helping me so far!
Any idea how I should find out more?

  • UK PC Keyboard Key Mapping problem

I've tried two UK PC Keyboards on my new mini. Both work fine apart from a few keys which are mapped incorrectly.
The most annoying are that the @ (at sign) and " (double quotes) are the wrong way round.
Is there a setting I can change (or some software I can install) to re-map these keys? I've tried changing the keyboard type in system preferences but it has no effect.
Everything else on the device is superb!
    Thanks

Incredibly, i found the easiest solution to this problem (no, not the solution of buying a Mac keyboard!) lay on Microsoft's website...
I was using a Microsoft Natural Multimedia keyboard with my mini. I went there out of interest to see if there were drivers for it that would allow the use of some of the media keys (and there were incidentally, but that is off-topic!).
I went to http://www.microsoft.com/mac and followed a link to hardware. I forget exactly what route i followed, but i besically tracked down the mac drivers for the natural multimedia keyboard. In addition to the drivers download there was a microsoft keyboard layout download as well. I suspect this layout would be available as a download whichever keyboard you picked.
After installing this layout i then had an extra option in the international settings box called "British - Microsoft". Bingo! Job done.
Now i still found it frustrating since everything you read and all the software you have still talks about keys that the MS keyboards simply don't have and you have to remember that the "command" key is the "windows" key, etc., etc. In the end i just gave in and bought one of the apple pro keyboards. It gave me two extra usb ports and is LOVELY to use.
Bit of a learning curve mind since the @'s and "'s are in the "wrong" places if you come from the MS world, but i figured i may as well go through the entire learning curve and take that on board as well

  • Keynote bluetooth remote - key mapping

    Hello,
Since I've switched to a MBP Retina, my old Apple IR remotes don't work anymore. I've bought a remote from iStabilizer, the "shutter remote". It works well, except that there is no "menu" button that allows me to have the navigator appear on the presenter screen.
This is really important for presentation, so that you can skip slides or go backj dependent on the response of your audience.
Does anyone have any clue how to solve this ?
    By buying another remote that does have this capability;
By remapping keys one way or another.
    Thanks for the feedback.
    Best,
    Serge

    Thanks Gary,
That, I found. What I meant is to do this from your remote, like you used to be able to do from Apple's IR remotes. Hit <menu>, scroll a few slides ahead, select, and continue, without your audience noticing anything.
So, any remote that could replace the Apple remote would be great, or a way to map other remotes to do that...
If not, this is really two steps back for people who are serious about presentations. I don't think you can take your audience seriously without being able to jump ahead and back in your presentation.
    Best,
    Serge

  • Serious Keyboard Key Mapping Issue

    Hi there everyone...
Yesterday evening, while i was watching a movie on my Macbook, i accidentally pressed the command button, and all of a sudden the movie stopped playing.
After some research on the internet, I activated the keyboard palette, and found out that several keys had issues
    1. The left command button behaved as if i was pressing command + . (period key)
    2. The right command button behaved like command + up arrow key
    3. The up arrow key like issue 2 above
    4. The period key like issue 1 above
p.s. the up arrow and period keys arent working at all, they just behave as i explained above
Since it had to do with a modifier key, i tried to change the modifier key settings, but even though i tried accessing the modifier key settings through preferences, no pop-up window opened and no change could be made.
Even though i tried a PRAM zapping, nothing happened because as i understand it, the system doesnt recognise the shortcut, since together with command, option,p,r, the period key is seen pressed as well.
If anyone can help please do!
    Thanks for your time everyone,

So I booted from the install disk.... Didnt now what exactly to do, so i use the terminal to see if the problem with the keys persisted... And unfortunately it did.... Didnt know what to do next so i quit and booted again...
But i restarted my macbook, only to boot into hardware test mode, to see if the problem really is on hardware side.
I am running an extended test, but poking around a bit, i noticed that the up arrow key worked fine...
Waiting now to see the results from the test, which i will post after it's finished.

  • Simple Bash/keyboard (key mapping) question

If I log in at a virtual console, the home key moves the cursor to the start of the line, as root, or as a user.  If I'm in WindowMaker, and I open an Eterm, home key moves the cursor to the start of the line, just like in the VC, however, if I SU to root, the home key gives me a ~ at the current cursor position.
Where should I be looking to fix this, besides 45 minutes with Google?
Thank you for any help, ideas, etc...

    Found the problem:
Some package install added this to my .bashrc
    test -n "$DISPLAY" && export TERM=xterm-color
Bug?  Probably not, but annoying that the assumption is made that I am running xterm.
The fix was easy, delete the line, as I've been using a custom .bashrc that, among other things, handles TERM exporting properly.

  • Bluetooth keyboard mapping issues with iPad (3rd gen) after iOS 6.1.2 upgrade

Others may have figured this out more readily than I did, but since I did not find a post on this topic, I decided I would provide this information.
After upgrading my iPad "3" to iOS 6.1.2, my bluetooth keyboard mapping was a bit off.  Hitting most keys provided the desired result but not all.
Typing \ would result in ] for example.  Typing shift + 2 would result in " rather than the expected (and marked) @.
To fix this I tried turning Bluetooth off and on, etc.  No joy.
FinaIly, I went into "Settings," selected "Bluetooth," selected "Apple Wireless Keyboard," clicked on "Forget this Device."
I then powered off the iPad and the bluetooth keyboard.  Next, I powered on the iPad and keyboard and went back into "Settings" where I paired the keyboard with the iPad again.  Everything then worked as desired.
It's possible, that you may not need to go to the trouble of powering off and on the iPad and the keyboard.  Simply "forgetting" the device and then pairing the keyboard with the iPad again may suffice.

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon.  The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Admittedly the labeling is hard to read but, if you use a magnifier and squint your eyes, you'll see "Output 5.1V, 2.1A."  The symbol between volts and amps is the symbol for DC.  Do NOT use an iPhone charger.  Do NOT use an iPod charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • I have a Belkin bluetooth keyboard attached to my Ipad 3. I would like to know if there is any way to have the arrow keys scroll down when browsing web pages?

I just got my Ipad 3rd generation a few days ago and for my case I got the bulky BELKIN Bluetooth keyboard. I notice that when I press down the arrow keys it does not seem to scroll down when searching a web browser or looking up web pages. However it works fine when scrolling down on office apps such as Pages. I'm wondering if is there a way to make the arrow keys on the keyboard scroll down when on an internet web page like my Mac does.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

I use an Apple bluetooth keyboard with my iPad. In messages I can't find a way to "send" a message without tapping on Send on the iPad's screen. I've tried every key and key combo that I can think of. Am I missing something?

I already have multiple devices and by far I like my iPad the most over laptops and the iPad. That including checking out my friends MacBook Air.
The difference for me is the touch interface on the screen itself for things that do not require a lot of typing. For me, the iPad is more "magical" than anything else I've used.
Again, I do appreciate your answers but you don't know my situation. Not everything is as it is perceived without knowing me and what I have to go through.
