IPad Camera Connection Kit doesn't work

Some time ago I ordered from the Apple Store an iPad Camera Connection Kit.
This morning, when testing it, the following happens :
- SD card reader : when testing the SD card reader with the card from our camera, the message below is displayed :
     "Contents not available
Cannot read the connected storage media"
Strange, as the camera has taken hundreds of pictures, and when checking the card on my MBA I can access the card's subfolders without any problem.
- USB camera connector :This works well (with the same card as mentioned above plugged into the camera).
Does anyone have experience with the SD card reader ?
Thanks.
Note : in the iPad Camera Connection Kit documentation, reference is made to the iPad user guide. However, that user guide, a circular reference is made to the connection kit documentation.

Is the SD card one that was formatted by your camera? In order for the CCK to read the card, all the photos need to be in a directory name DCIM and they need to have 8-character file names. This is the way digital cameras generally format things. However, if you put the photos on the card yourself, you might have done it differently.
I use the SD card reader quite a bit as it's easier for me than keeping track of yet another cable. Once or twice, my iPad didn't see it. A reset of the iPad fixed that. Press and hold the Home button and the power button until the silver apple appears.

Why does Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit no longer work with iOS8?

The kit is firmly inserted in thhe iPad's dock ? You could also try a reset and see if it's recognised after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
I haven't had problems using the kit with SD cards from Canon cameras . What capacity is the card, and it's an SD or SDHC card - if it's an SDXC card that's formatted as ExFAT then it won't be recognised

  • IPad 4 with camera connection kit doesn't work with 64GB SDXC card on iOS 7.1.1

I have an iPad 4 and official Apple camera connection kit. Even though ios 7 was supposed to provide compatibility with SDXC cards there is obviously an issue. I'm using 64GB SDXC and 32GB SD cards - both Sandisck Extreme Pro with RAW Canon 5D Mark III files. The 32GB cards work fine - thumbnails appear quickly and pictures import fine. After inserting the 64GB cards thumbnail holders appear very slowly but the thumbnail images do not appear so I cannot import. I'm a pro photographer and I need this functionality so that I can show pictures to clients on location. Any ideas?

Are the photos on the 64GB card in RAW format? If so, this may apply.

  • Camera connection kit doesn't work...help

I bought the camera connection kit and tried using 2 different SD cards to load my pictures onto my ipad and nothing happens when i plug it in. the USB piece works fine when i hook it up to my other camera but why can't i get the memory card piece to work? any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks!

Hi Kathie and welcome to the Apple Discussions.
How are your SD cards formatted? If memory serves, the iPad wants to see the cards in DCIM. Since the USB to camera is working, it sounds like the format of the SD cards is not what the iPad wants to see. What kind of camer are you using, and if you look at the card on a computer, what does it show you...what is the name or label of the top level folder?

  • Camera Connection Kit doesn't work

    Hi,
In 2012 I bought 2 cases for Hyperdrive for my 2nd genreration iPad.  I got drives for both, formatted and used with my iPad with the iPad-USB camera connector (only).  All worked fine.
Both Hyperdrives went back in their cases and put in the closet 8 months ago and were taken out today for a test run.  Both will turn on and import photos perfectly well.  Neither will establish a connection to my iPad. I initially assumed that I might have a faulty cable and tried a second one that I know is goo, but it too works with neither unit.  As a test of the Hyperdrive units, I tried connecting to my MacBook Pro.  Both work and allow me to see my images in Lightroom.
Additionally,  until today I had never opened the package that the iPad-SDHC card connector (that  originally came with the iPad-USB connector) was in.  It, too, will not work with my iPad with a good SDHC card in it.  My iPad charger works perfectly well, so I don't think it's the receptor in my iPad.  Until I tried the iPad-SDHC card connector I was beginning to assume it was the iPad-USB connector but I find it odd that a second connector, too, does not work.
I get no error messages.  Simply, nothing happens at all. Any ideas?
    Thank you.
    Stephanie

By the way, I have turned the iPad off and back on; I have reset it.
I have checked and the images are in a DCIM folder.  Each image (they are raw images) has an 8 letter/digit name followed by .raw format code for camera.  Camera is a Panasonic micro four thirds camera.  I've just tried a card from my Canon point and shoot with both RAW and JPEGS on it.  That doesn't work either.

  • Camera connection kit doesn't work at all.

Either the USB or SD reader.
Received the camera connector kit yesterday.
When I try to import photos from my iPhone to the iPad via the USB connector I see the camera tab for about 5 seconds, the page is blank/black, but then it disappears.
Tried 2 different cables. Same results.
The camera tab shows up at the top of the screen and then disappears after
about 5-6 seconds. I don't ever get the option to import any files.
When I plug SD reader in to the iPad, 4GB card with pictures, I receive a message stating that the attached USB device is not supported.
So it seems the whole camera kit is a bust.
    Any clues?
    John

Regarding the SD card, the card has to be formated in FAT 16 or 32 and photos (or videos) in the iPad supported formats have to be placed in a folder titled "DCIM" in the root directory. If no DCIM folder I get the message you received.
I can't help with the iPhone import.

  • Why will my IPAD camera connection kit not work?

My IPAD camera connection kit won't work! Help! Tried to reboot and had no luck!

    What model iPad?
Strange that neithere works. Are you sure the kit is securely plugged into the iPad?
Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • Ipad camera connect kit not working

When I attach my iPod camea connect kit (the Appel one, not 3rd party) to my iPad 3, I get the message that the accessory is not supported.  What gives?  I pop in an SD card and it doesn't read anything.  All I get is the not supported message a few times.

I have the new iPad also, white 64GIG 4G and my camera connection kit is not working either. The same camera connection kit purchased at my local Apple store worked fine with my iPad 2. I've tried everything (e.g. power-off, reset, restore, putting photos on the card then connecting, and reformatting the card using disk utility) and it even shows the camera connection kit under "general" "about" it just doesnt work as far as being recognized in the photo app. I guess this is where AppleCare phone support comes in handy. I hope this gets fixed because I've been shooting a lot of video and creating some pretty good home movies with my kids using iMovie. I would really like to get these large files transferred onto my Mac. The SD card I'm using is a PNY Professional SDHC 4GIG Class 10 just to provide all the variables I'm working with. What am I missing?

  • HT4236 Have ipad2 & iPad camera connection kit - still doesn't download photos on SD card

Plugged in SD card from camera to a newly purchased ipad2 via the new iPad camera connection kit and it will not download these photos. Tried the same on a friends ipad2 and it works fine. Do I need to download a new app or just update the photo booth that I already have?

It doesn't go into photobooth. WHen you plug in the CCK and SD card it should open the photos app all on its own, open the card and then there'll be the select dialogue where you tap on the photos you want to import.
Try resetting your iPad. Hold down the home and sleep keys, past when you see the red slider and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.
Since it works on another ipad, you know there's photos on the card and they're formatted right, along with the CCK working, so the issue must be your iPad. Sometimes there's a glitch and resetting helps that.

  • IPad camera connection kit is working on ios 6.1.3 or no?

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to find an answer to this question
Is iPad camera connection kit working on the new update iOS 6.1.3?
I need to know this kinda urgent now, because my iPad has been acting really weird, but I hadn't update yet, because I'm scared my camera connection kit won't work anymore, and I need it alot because I work with cameras.
Anyone who already update and the camera connection kit still working? Please
I have an iPad 2 currently iOS 6
    Have a great day!

Works on my iPad 2 also. I transfer pics/videos using an SDHC card and also using a USB flash drive.
To use a flash drive, Plug the  flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

Does the IPad camera connection kit work with the Ipad 4 and /or is the an adapter ?

You want the newer Lightning to USB Camera Adaptor.

The old Camera Connection Kit also works and I use it on my iPad 4, however, to use this your will need the Lightning to 30 pin adaptor.

  • TS1702 Using an iPad camera connection kit and a MIDI to USB cable to interface a MIDI keyboard with GarageBand. It works flawlessly... almost...

I'm using an iPad camera connection kit and a MIDI to USB cable to interface a MIDI keyboard with GarageBand. It works flawlessly... until I use the sustain pedal. Once the pedal is depressed while playing a given note, from then on, the pedal itself plays the note every time it is depressed. It's not the keyboard or the pedal. I've tried others. That leaves the app or the connection between the iPad and the keyboard. I find it hard to believe I'm the only person who is experiencing this problem. Anyone have a fix?

Yes.  There are a ton of write-ups on how to do the connections.   I connect my m-audio Keystation 61 es through the CCK to my iPad and use GarageBand to control it.  Some keyboards require a powered USB hub to make things work.  I use a belkin 4 port hub in my own setup.   Here is a link to tested / verified keyboards that work via the CCK:  http://iosmidi.com/devices/
