IPad Camera connector not recognizing anything...

Hi,
I have just got a second hand iPad (original). I have also got a knock-off usb connector off ebay.
I want to be able to sync my Canon 40D with the iPad. This should be no problem google tells me. The iPad is running 4.3.2
I plug in the connector & camera into the iPad, turn on the camera - nothing happens.
I put the memory card into a usb memory card reader and connect it to the ipad - nothing happens.
I plug my iPhone into the iPad - nothing happens.
I plug a Apple USB keyboard into the iPad - nothing happens.
Using the same connector I plug the USB keyboard into my iPhone - I get a warning that this accessory is not for the iPhone.
I'm not really sure where to go from here, instinct is telling me that the knock-off usb connector from ebay is the weakest link here but as the iPhone threw a wobbly when I connected it I'm thinking maybe that's actually working and the problem is with the iPad...
Can anyone please suggest any additional troubleshooting here?

Dan-
At least you are not getting the error message about the USB device drawing too much current!
When you say nothing happens, are you running the Photos App on the iPad at the time?  I don't know if it is supposed to open automatically, but that is where imported Photos will go.  That is where I see thumbnails of photos on the camera's card, either connecting from the camera or using a USB card adapter.
Are you sure there are pictures on the card in the camera? When I made comparisons between different cameras, the card might or might not show up when it had been reformatted.
Did they get there by taking them with that camera?  I understand the Photos App requires images to be in a standard format, and inside the correct folder name on the camera card.  If you just copied random images to the card, they might not have the right file name format or be in the right place.
What about trying it with a friend's iPad?  If that doesn't work, I would suspect the adapter wasn't good enough.  If it does, then your iPad may have a defective connection.

  • IPad Camera Connector

Has anyone tried using an iPad Camera Connector with an iPhone? If so does it work? In other words, is there a way to download photos from a camera or card to use the iPhone like a photo bank similar to how an iPad does?

Elevator Guy wrote:> Has anyone tried using an iPad Camera Connector with an iPhone?
Great idea. Alan Sampson is correct in that the iPad SD reader is technically not supported by the iPhone. However, using Zoomit was a really interesting approach that I never thought of.
So, I tried it and it does NOT work. Rats - terrific idea. Conclusion: You have to buy Zoomit's proprietary $60 SD reader to upload images to your iPhone.

I don't own the Zoomit SD reader, but it supposedly does exactly what you asked.

iPad 3 is not recognized by iTunes
I have gone through the Apple support website which has instructed me to do many things like try different USB ports to unstall and update iTunes, even install updated drivers. However, nothing has work up to this point. The advice that I am looking for now is (1) am I missing something obvious here? (2) Do I need to send it in for repair or something?

  • Apple iPad Camera Connector query

for starters i have a Sony Digital Still Camera so the Apple card reader wont be any good for that.
Although i do have a perfectly good USB Card reader that can cope with every memory card that was ever made, so copying from Sony Memory Card to SD card isnt a problem.
However my question is this :- if i can put my photos for the iPad2 into my PC iTunes Program why do i need the Apple iPad Camera Connector ?.
On the other hand, wouldn't it sometimes be easier/quicker to put MUSIC onto a SD Memory Card (instead of into iTunes), so why cant i transfer Music to the iPad2 using this Memory Card reader, or perhaps i can but it isnt documented ?.
Does this Memory card reader fit onto iPad1 as well ?.
i think i will have to give it a rest asking all these questions, and perhaps patiently wait until we actually have one of these iPad2 gadgets in our grubby little hands.

    Hey Tim
Yep the cam connector is really only for transferring photos. To be honest I wouldn't spend money on this UNTIL you find a real need. If you are just a casual photographer then you will find it just as easy to store photos on your cameras storage card until you get back home, and then transfer them to your iPad via iTunes. Some more serious or professional photographers want to back up photos via iPad before they get home in case of loss etc. Or to display to clients.
Don't worry about asking lots of questions - the better prepared you are the more you will enjoy your iPad, plus it adds to the excitement
PS the kit does have a few extra uses that might just interest you if it's your thing

  • Problems with iPad camera connector kit

I used the camera connector kit yesterday with my sd card and it worked fine. I have tried to use it again today and it comes up with Contents not available, cannot read the connected storage media. Any suggestions as to how to get it to work?

How are the photos getting onto the card, directly from the camera or are you copying them onto the card from your computer ? If you are copying them onto the card then you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card, with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them.
If the card has come straight from the camera then try a reset of the iPad and see if the photos are then recognised : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Audio line out port (Apple iPad Dock Connector) not working Iphone 4 os 4.2

For my new iphone4, the audio line out port (Apple iPad Dock Connector)is not working. Both using a cable to mini jack (3,5 mm) or in dockingstation.
    I'm using OS 4.2.
    IS this a bug?
    Thanks
    Hans

I just came back from the Apple store.  My iPhone4 DOES have a working line out when plugged into a Apple name brand dock connector.   I don't know why my SendStation refuses to work only with the iPhone4 yet works with iPods, etc..
Solution? I'm buying an Apple iPod dock connector for home and will try to find something with line out for the car - Apple says they do not make one.

  • IPad camera connector and Video cameras

Anyone has connected a video camera to the iPad through the camera connector and transferred videos?
Or transferred videos from a digital camera or on the SD card to the iPad?
Just wondering if it can be done.

I have done it successfully. However, for it to work the file format of the photos and videos have be supported by the iPad. Not all are. I have a Panasonic Video camera and video format is not supported so the I can't import it. It dose however import stills fine. ALso, the file structure in the camera has to have the photos and videos in a folder titled "DCIM". I have an old camera that does not transfer since its folder is named differently.

  • Camera is not recognized after upgrade to Tiger !!!!

    Hello,
I recently upgraded to Tiger and until now I had absolutely NO problems with FCE (J1.01). I just finsihed a project before upgrading to Tiger. Then today I was going to start a new project and now the camera (Sony Mini Dv Handycam) is not recognized even if is connected to my Firewire ports. I exchanged the connection between the ports and the same result.
Something more strange is that I though about checking it with the iChat AV application to see if it was a problem with the camera but iChat reports that the camera is being used by "other application". However I have no other application running and I cannot use it even for iChat.
Please, Please any help is greatly appreciatted. If I cannot use FCE then having my iMac makes no sense..
    Thanks

    Excellent!!
your answer was exactly the solution for my problem,
a BIG Thank you, now everything is fine.
P.S. the thing that bothers me is that I searched Apple support site for some answer and I could not find this document !!!
