IPad cannot get mail any longer

I setup my iPad (3) and iPhone to access my ntlworld and gmail email accounts about 2 months ago.  Everything worked fine.
Suddenly this week, I get the message 'cannot get mail' the mail server imap.ntlworld.com is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account into mail settings.
I ONLY get this message on the iPad - I still get my messages on the iPhone ... Even when they are next to each other & both using the same wifi.
I still get my gmail messages with no problem (on both). I am able to send emails from both ... I just cannot receive!
I have made no changes to settings - nor has my mail password or account been altered by the ISP.  I checked  the settings on the iPad against the iPhone - there is no difference between them.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Chris

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • On iPad cannot get mail

I am getting message   "cannot get mail"  --  "mail server -imap.gmail.com  is not responding."

This happens to me from time to time. It may well be a connection issue, do you still have a WiFi connection, if you do open Safari, can you get to a webpage ok? If you can get to a webpage of your choice ok just try closing the Mail App and opening it again.

  • Ipad cannot get mail

I've recently lost email capability. The error message says that my gmail account username or password are incorrect, but I know that they are both ok because I can log into my gmail account using these settings directly from safari. I've tried deleting the gmail account in the iPad settings, then creating the same account. No cigar. Any ideas anyone?

Yes I did they gave me a new port number which made no difference. But my ipod touch and iMac work with the same wi fi.

The mail server may be down, try again later.

  • Cannot get mail-the gmail username or password is incorrect

What does it mean when my iPad cannot get mail?

It means that there is an error in your server settings, specifically the username or password is incorrect.
Preferences > Accounts > Google Account Settings > Re-enter proper account name and password.
Are you using two-step verification for gmail? If so, see this thread:

How long has it been going on? I've had my yahoo mess up and if i wait a bit it resolves itself. Yahoo is doing something with their servers and it messes with your mail if your mail happens to be on one of those servers.

  • HT2480 Ipad mini - exchange email stopped working randomly  Error: "Cannot get mail. The connection to the server failed."

I got an iPad mini over Christmas and have had no issues setting up/managing my email until yesterday. I've had my Exchange email working for almost a month, and yesterday I stopped getting emails and getting the error: "Cannot Get Mail. The connection to the server failed."
I tried resetting the device (multiple times) and deleting and recreating the Exchange account (multiple times). This is getting annoying because it worked fine up until yesterday. I'm not aware of any updates to the device, or any changes that have occurred since yesterday.

Due to a screen issue, I had my iPhone 5 replaced two days ago. I repeated deleted the mail account and kept adding it but this did not make any difference. When I attempted to setup the new phone with my Google (Gmail via exchange active sync) accounts I was receiving this same "Cannot Get Mail" error. From what I was able to gather, this problem should be affecting Gmail accounts set up via Exchange. When originally purchasing the phone I was assisted and directed to set up my Gmail account through Exchange because it had the ability to use "ActiveSync" and push not only mail and calendars, but all of my contacts as well. I found this article regarding the subject.
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2413283,00.asp
What it came down to was having to delete my Gmail via Exchange account and separate it into two different accounts, a regular gmail account for my mail and a CardDAV account for my contacts.
Here is what I did. Google is changing their system and for new registrars Exchange ActiveSync will not work so you will be unable to register your account via Exchange and have your mail, calenders, and contacts all pushed together. I find this change really annoying. If you are having problems accessing your contacts after deleting the mail account, like I was, here is the work around.
To circumvent this issue go to Setting > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Other > Add CardDAV Account: Under server ender google.com, then your email user name and password, then click next to verify the information.
    I hope this helps.

Hi my nan keeps Getting an error message of cannot get mail the connection to the server failed.... Can any one tell me what this means please

I too am getting this message. I have been using my iPad for two years with no problems but a couple of days ago I starting having this problem intermittently. I have restarted the iPad when that did not work I deleted the account and reloaded it. Nothing seems to work. I was having the same problem on my iPhone but that seems to be OK today. Any other ideas?

  • Cannot get mail without quitting first.  Any idea why?

Does it work?  Well, the beep occurs but no mail comes through without a very long wait.  If I quit mail and re-open it, all the new messages come through.
Love has nothing to do with this.

    Hi StuNYC,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're seeing an alert message when opening Mail on your iOS devices. Do you have multiple email accounts setup on the devices? Take a look at the article below, it provides suggestions that will resolve most issues that  cause an alert like that to appear in when starting the Mail app.

  • HT201320 keep getting message  on iPad 4, when opening mail "Cannot Get Mail" Help!

I have my hotmail and gmail both set up on my iPad 4 3 G. Also had it on my iPad 1, before changing over to the 4. It has all been fine, until recently, where I keep getting a pop up window, upon trying to open my email. Message says: Cannot Get Mail, The mail server "imap.gmail.com" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings.  Then is has a OK button to press. I have checked and rechecked in my mail settings that the info is correct. Don't know what to do.  PS....I already had my two accounts synced together, so I see most mail, but cannot retrieve some mail I have placed into folders.

Yahoo's been having persistently random issues for months. You can try just waiting it out, or delete and readd your yahoo account. When my accounts were affected I just used webmail to access my yahoo accounts until it cleared up.
Chances are it's all on their end and really all you can do is wait it out.
