  • IPad 2 connects to personal hotspot but not wifi

I dropped my ipad2, but all seems to be working fine except for my wifi. What doesn't seem to make sense is that my wifi will see and connect to my iphone 5S personal hotspot but doesn't see my wifi router.  It is also picking up other wifi signals from my smart tv. If there is a wifi hardware issue, shouldn't that impact the ability to connect to hotspot?

    Hello Bella9678
Start with going into Settings > General > Reset and Reset Network Settings, then try to connect to your Wi-Fi network. Check out the article below for more troubleshooting options to get your Wi-Fi working again.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Connecting to Personal Hotspot via Bluetooth?

Last night I discovered my daughter can connect her iPod Touch 5 (iOS 8.0.2) to my iPhone 5 (also iOS 8.0.2) using the Personal Hotspot function (via Bluetooth) even when Personal Hotspot is set to OFF on my phone.  Is that really working as intended by Apple?
If she tries to connect via WIFI, she cannot unless I have the Personal Hotspot set to ON.  OK good, that makes sense!
If she connects via Bluetooth though, she always sees my phone and if she selects that connection, it turns my Personal Hotspot on my phone from OFF to ON.  That just seems odd to me.  I'd prefer to restrict that.  I have noticed that even if I change my password on the Personal Hotspot, it does not matter.  If she selects that connection via Bluetooth, BOOM...  It changes it on my phone from OFF to ON.
Anyone else notice this?  Sure, I can turn off Bluetooth on my phone to stop it, but I use BT quite a bit for speakers and in my car.  I usually prefer to leave it ON.  She also uses BT for her wireless speaker.
IMO, Apple should change that to if I have my personal Hotspot set to OFF, it should not be visible at all unless I turn it ON (like it works over the wifi connection).

  • Lost connection to personal hotspot after upgrading iTunes

    Hi Ladies and Gentlemen ,
Used to enjoy connecting my Mac Pro (Mac OS X 10.6.8) to personal hotspot through USB port (since I don't have WiFi card installed.
    Was fantastic.
Received a message to upgrade iTunes ... I did ... and the joy has gone (Grrrr) .... Lost the USB connection to Personal Hotspot.
Now I have upgraded iTunes + iO7 ... still have the same problem ... iPhone 4S doesn't appear on the network via USB.
    Help
    Best regards.

" ... other things will show up with that name ..."
Well, the one thing I can think of is that your iPhone will show up with "that name" on iTunes' summary tab when you sync it.  Also, if you receive any warning messages from iTunes on your computer, the messages will have that name.

    Hey there arunvdi,
It sounds like you are unable to connect to the Wi-Fi created by your Personal Hotspot. I recommend these troubleshooting steps from the article named:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Personal Hotspot
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2756
Try disabling and reenabling Personal Hotspot from Settings > Personal Hotspot or Settings > General > Cellular > Personal Hotspot.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Wi-Fi troubleshooting
If you encounter an issue using Personal Hotspot with other Wi-Fi devices, try the following:
    Turn Personal Hotspot off.
Verify Wi-Fi is on in Settings > Wi-Fi.
    Turn Personal Hotspot back on.
If another device is unable to join your Wi-Fi network, ensure that the user enters the Wi-Fi password correctly. If the device cannot see your Wi-Fi network, verify your device name.
Note: Windows may not properly display a device name that uses non-ASCII characters.
Verify how many devices are currently using your Personal Hotspot. Depending on your wireless carrier and, the maximum number of Wi-Fi connections may be limited to three at one time.
If the other device still cannot connect, try turning Wi-Fi off and on again on the device. Verify that your device can see other Wi-Fi networks.
Note: If you see an "Unable to Join" or timeout error when trying to connect a device using Wi-Fi, ensure that you remain on the Personal Hotspot screen until the first device connects. After a device has connected, you can leave the Personal Hotspot screen and use your phone normally. Your device will automatically stop broadcasting using Wi-Fi if you put your device to sleep or after 90 seconds elapse with no devices connected using Wi-Fi. You can start broadcasting your Wi-Fi network again by tapping Settings > Personal Hotspot.
If none of the previous steps resolves your issue, restore the iPhone.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • TS1398 I tried all solution but still i am unable to connect to my wifi. It started yesterday when my ipad cant connect to wifi.

I tried all solution but still i am unable to connect to my wifi. It started yesterday when my ipad cant connect to wifi.

It's hard to provide help when your question starts out with, "I tried all solutions" however here is some troubleshooting advice.
If you are having WiFi problems it is necessary to isolate whether the problem is with your network or your iPad. Note: Do NOT consider your network to be blameless if some other devices can connect to it.
First, test your iPad on some other WiFi networks: a friends, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, etc.
If it works well there then the problem is probably with your network. Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power for 30 seconds. If that does not help check for a firmware update for your router. If none exists which corrects the problem consider replacing the router.
If your iPad does not function well on other networks it possibly has a hardware problem. You could try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings to see if that corrects the problem. If not, contact Apple Support or visit an Apple store for evaluation. They can provide a replacement if your iPad is bad.
If you need more help please give the make, model, and version of your WiFi router and how you have it configured.

  • HT204023 i cant find the personal hotspot on my iphone

i cant find the personal hotspot on my iphone

Fine, I understand that this is not an Apple-run or -sponsored site. But if you read through this and related discussions you are bound to find that the rollback of functional capabilities through the last 8-9 months of IPhone development has bewildered users. Perhaps the main reason personal hotspot is interesting is that it crops up in discussions about the sudden death of serious Bluetooth capability - unannounced and unacknowledged. It seems that some users have succeeded in getting some measure of the suddenly missing functionality back by fiddling with PH. Others do not find that option and remain unaided by serious information from Apple.
Given that situation, and I think it has lots of parallels in other areas of IPhonery, it would have been natural for Apple to take an interest and say something, if not in this Forum, why not more publicly. The failure to do so is what I criticize, in particular because it seems calculated. And to feel that you, as a consumer, are being taken for a ride makes you feel like a mug, a poor, helpless moron, ready to be conned. That is not a feeling that breeds loyalty and contentment. Several of the contributions to the Forums express that feeling with less restraint than I have done.
To boot, when I have spoken to Apple support personnel they are so completely unaware of the issues that they cannot possibly be meant to assist us punters in understanding what goes on. Now, isn't that precisely what a great con is about?

  • My ipad cant connect to wifi

my sisters ipad cant connect to the wifi

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Ipad won't stay connected to personal hotspot

ipad mini has issues staying connected to hot spot on iphone 5. i've tried a laptop computer and it stays conected with no issues. When Ipad screen shuts off so does the connection which is fine, but when you turp ipad screen on it won't connect without turning on/off hotspot on iphone5. Any suggestions welcome.

    Hello Dcampdr,
It sounds like you are unable to stay connected to your iPhones personal hotspot. I recommend these steps from the following article to help troubleshoot the Wi-Fi connection:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Wi-Fi disconnects or signal strength is less than expected
Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if signal strength improves.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
If the issue persists, I would next try the troubleshooting in the following article for the iPhone Hotspot connection, even though it works fine with another device:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Personal Hotspot

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • IPad won't connect to personal hotspot

I have an iPhone 4S that I use as a personal hotspot for my iPad when I'm away from home. My bf has an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 that will automatically connect to my personal hotspot without me having to do anything with my 4S. My iPad however requires that I unlock my 4S, go to the personal hotspot settings page and then it'll connect. I'm trying to figure out why the iPhone 4 connects to the personal hotspot automatically when the iPad won't. Both connect via wifi. Bluetooth is too slow with the personal hotspot, so I just don't use it.

I was having the same issue. I starting searching and found a few people who suggested turning up the brightness on your iPad. I thought what in the world would that have to do with connection to my hotspot but I tried I and it worked. My brightness was set to about 50% and I uped it to around 75% and it worked. Try it anyway. Hope it will work for you as well .........

  • IPad 2 connects via iphone hotspot, but not router

I have a iPad 2 that refuses to see or connect to my "G" wi-fi network. Both my iphones and iPad mini connect to the same wi-fi network without any issues. But, the iPad 2 will connect to to my iPhone 5 via AT&T personal hotspot (wi-fi... is this really wi-fi?) and my mac via Bluetooth. I have reset the ipad 2 to factory settings, reset network settings and nothing is working to connect to a standard wi-fi network. Does this sound like the wi-fi antenna is not working?

    Hello Jeffrey Pimental,
If you are not seeing your WiFi network from your iPad 2 in order to join, you may want to try the additional steps outlined in the following article:
iOS: Connecting to Wi-Fi - Apple Support
You may also want to double-check that the router is set up as outlined in this article:
Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support

  • IPhone 5 and iPad mini's usb personal hotspot on 10.8.4 suddenly stopped working!

Let me make it clear that its working fine on wifi and bluetooth on both the devices. for some reason, it has stopped working via usb on both the devices at once. i have a MBP 2010 with Mountain Lion 10.8.4
i have tried with different lightning cables, including the one bundled.
on connecting the ipad for the first time the mac just powered off without any error/warning/ or even freezing. upon the next power on it didnt give any message about recovering from an error.
i am wondering if this is the mac's version of USB OVER CURRENT / OVER VOLTAGE!
I found this three lines of message generated in console when connect the devices with personal hotspot via USB on.
