IPad charger not working

Hi,
I got bought an iPad 2 for christmas (I think my girlfriend actually bought it in October).
For the last couple of days it hasn't been picking up any connection to the charger.
I've checked the common problems - it is the right charger, tried it in different sockets and rebooted and nothing has changed.
If I plug my iPhone charger in to it, it works - al beit VERY slow.
Any other ideas?

If you replicate the lack of charging iwth different chargers, different outlets, different cables (enough to know that you don't have a faulty cable or charger) then yes, take it into the local Apple store (or where you bought it) and have them look at it. The 30 pin USB connector can go bad, it happened to mine. If that happens, then it (barring any signs of damage) is usually seen as a manufacturer's defect and your device is replaced. So if you can connect, back it up before you take it in.

Are you using the charger that came with the iPad? If so there are only a few things that can be wrong. The best way to charge an iPad is to use the charger that came with it.
1. Software problem in the iPad. First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
2. No power in the outlet. Check the outlet to make sure it has power.
3. Bad cable. Try a different cable.
4. Bad charger. Try a different charger.
5. Dirt or fuzz in the connection port. Check and carefully clean out any debris.
6. Hardware failure in the iPad. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Firstly, try a hard reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
If this doesn't work, try restoring your device. Put it in recovery mode if iTunes doesn't recognise it, and restore it from there. I have linked to instructions below.

PAD Mini Locked after iOS upgrade, tried reset on iPAD did not work, plugged in and device not appearing in iTUNEs for reset/restore. Just get an Apple Logo then a flashing blue screen as if it is caught booting up. This has happened twice before and iTunes restore fixed it. But this time device not appearing in iTunes.
Running iTunes for PC. But as stated restore has worked before! Any help greatly appreciated!!

Place the device in DFU mode and let iTunes restore the device to factory condition.

I"m going to make the presumption that you've checked the volume and that you don't have it muted. One thing some have suggested is to go into the settings and reset all settings.
It is kind of a drag because you wil have to retweak everything but it's helped for some.

Have you tried closing the Camera app completely ? From the home screen (i.e. not with the Camera app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Camera app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Is it working on any apps e.g. Music and Videos apps but not third-party apps or notification sounds ? If you do get sound in Music and Videos then have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar.
