Ipad cloning

I want to move everything from a 16GB to a 64 GB iPad.  Can I clone everything, including apps, free digital downloads from local library whiich includes Kindle books and Zinio magazines, free podcasts, my Cox email, etc.? There are no movies, pictures or music.

  • IPads in a Workplace Without Internet

    Hello,
I am hoping this in not an entirely unique problem that has not been addressed yet. I am part of a team who job is to implement 200 iPads into the cockpits of our helicopters. Before we make the purchase, I want to ensure this is going to work. We have two types of computers in our office:
    1) Internet accessible but no USB supported functions for external storage devices. CDs are the only way to transfer data.
    2) Stand-alone computers (no internet) with USB supported functions.
Right now our plan is to buy the iPads along with a docking station that syncs up to 30 iPads via USB. This will have to be done on computers without internet access. I know I can download versions of iOS and put them on CDs for transfer. My question lies within the apps and iPad activations.
Q1) Can I distribute the apps to these computers with the volume purchase program? If so, can I install and update them when new versions are released?
Q2) How are each of these iPads going to be activated if they cannot ever plug into the internet?
From what I have read, I believe that it can be done. However, I want somebody smart double checking me before I make any recommendations.
Please let me know if I am missing something also.
    Thank You,
    Landon

    Work-arounds:
    Folder copy
    1) I think you could look-into what folder itunes saves its data
    2) copy folder to cd
    3) overwrite folder on usb computer.
    This is crude:
    1) download software with itunes.
    2) Clone the harddrive with Norton Ghost
        http://us.norton.com/ghost/
    3) restore onto machine with usb.
    cloning
You typically create a master copy of software.
    create an image
    clone to other machines.
This should work for update too.  Assuming you want to keep all machines the same.
    Biting the bullet.
I'm not sure why the internet restriction.  Is it some FAA requirement?  Local management?  Security?
I'd say buy a safe. Store laptop in safe when not in use.
I think you need a Mac to run 30 iPads cloning at a time.  PC may be restricted to 5.
I do not thing transfering data by cd is any safer than by flash drive.  If some malware is going to pollute some flash drive it's going to pollute a cd.
I think by using Linux, SELinux, or Mac OS you have reduced your security risk lower than any Windows solutions.

  • Can an Ipad be Cloned to an Ipad Mini?

    I have an Ipad 2.
I am thinking of getting an Ipad Mini.
If I do, it would be a hassle to install and update all the apps again, arrange the icons for them, set all the settings again, etc.
Would it be possible to do a full backup of the Ipad 2, then restore that backup to the Ipad Mini? In other words, clone the Ipad 2 to the Mini?
That sure would be simpler than starting from scratch. Since they run the same software, one would think that should be possible.
And as I would guess that many people who already have an Ipad are now getting an Ipad Mini, that would be a convenience to save time for a whole lot of people!
    Is it possible?
    Thanks in advance!

    Diavonex-
Yes, that is what I hoped, that due to the same resolution, everything should work if a backed-up Ipad 2 is restored to an Ipad Mini.
However, I don't know if the Apple backup system will allow for restoring to a different device than the one that backed it up. If I bought a second Ipad 2, I don't know even if could restore my current Ipad 2's backup to a new one. Certainly in that case everything would work, but I don't know if Apple Backup would allow that. Even less so with a different type of device, even though both are called Ipad and both have the same resolution?
So, does anyone know for sure tht this will work?
There must be a lot of people who had Ipads and recently bought an Ipad Mini. Anyone here tried backing up your Ipad, and restoring that to the Mini?

  • New iPad: would like to access content on 2 iPhones but both have separate Apple IDs -help!?

I've completely comfused myself with Apple IDs and iCloud IDs today so can someone help please?
MY husband and I have separate iphones and ITunes accounts. We have just bought an iPad which we plan to share. We don't want this iPad to be cloned from either of our accounts but we're hoping to be able to bring up different content/ apps while sharing photos to both our iPhones. Wold we always have to sign in/out of social media apps to swap over (for example) or is there another way to easily share the device by performing one sign in and all the apps switch over to that profile?  I considered cloning one of our iPhones and only sharing selected apps from our iPhones (not even sure I can!) or setting up a brand new iCloud ID to be a shared account that we can then (hopefully) use family sharing to share photos. Is this the best way?
I keep reading articles about signing in with this Apple ID and then this iCloud ID and now I'm just lost!
    Thank you in advance!

How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer

  • I want to use multiple iPads as external monitors from a PC using the iPad VGA adapter (wired)

I want to send a VGA signal to a couple of iPads using them as monitors. I currently use a pair of regular 13" VGA 1024x768 lcd monitors looping thru an LCD projector displaying the same signal sent to the projector.
I want to use the iPad VGA adapter and WIRE them in just like a convention LCD monitor. Yes there are apps like air display and others but they don't allow cloning and have latency issues and must be networked. I need an app to use the VGA adapter and actually wire them in using a VGA signal from my existing VGA distrubution amp.
The size of the iPad is perfect for my application however I cannot find an app to let me send a signal into the iPad via VGA adapter.
    Any ideas?
    thanks,

  • I have  20 ipads to hand out to teachers, all of them are using the same apps (purchased), I'm using 1 computer to configure them, I purchased 20 gift cards to purchase apps, how can I set up all 20 on one library using the gift cards to purchase the apps

My office purchased 20 ipads - and 20 gift cards, I'm setting up all the software on my computer using 1 itunes library.. I need to purchase 20 of the same apps to put on each of the ipads... how can that be done when you purchase the same app..itunes tells you that you the app is already purchased...

Another member pointed me toward the following site...it contains some great info...it's focus is on the use of iPad's in education....
    http://ipadeducators.ning.com/
There is some discussion in there of device "cloning"..though I don't see how they can do that and at least not technically violate the iTunes Store EULA....(1 license can be used by 1 person on multiple devices, or by many people on one device).  As I understand it, and as Michael indicated, the only way to do what you want and not violate the EULA is to have 20 different Apple ID's...what the "cloner's"  have chosen to do is use the Educational VPP  www.apple.com/itunes/education
purchase sufficient licenses for all users, allocate a license to one Apple ID, clone that image to other iOS devices, and simply record the fact internally that the additional  license(s) have been allocated to other Apple ID's....I work in healthcare, and our legal department isn't comfortable with that approach, and I can't see it really being legally viable in education....unless their are different terms for educational institutions....

HI hoping for help pls, laptop was recently repaired& cloned, now will not recognise iphone or ipad, only sees iphone as a camera. Have spent ages trying to reinstall itunes to get so far and for it to fail. TRying desperately to reinstall driver for iphone now , have gotten as far as last steps to find folder in cdrive, found mobile file and there is no driver file at all. Am not the brightest tech lady so any easy to understand tips please am lost and cannot sync either pad or phone.

you have a ps cs4 license for mac and you have some way of finding your serial number.
if yes, download an install the installation file.  if you already have the installation file, what is its name and file extension?  (eg, if it's one file, it should be a dmg file.)
if you need the installation file,

  • Multiple ipads on one credit card

I have 15 ipads (to start with) that need to be managed (financially) through one credit card.  I've set up an iTunes account for each ipad but apparently can't use a single credit card on more than 5 or so iPads (according to iTunes support).  They recommended that I do the VPP for Business.  However, out of the handful of apps we plan to use, only 2 of them are available.  Not everyone of our users have a corporate credit card and besides the ipads are going to change hands from job to job.  So we do not want each iPad (and all the purchased apps) to be tied to an individual.  How in the world is this possible?? Itunes support said that it was a security reason behind not letting us have more than 5 iPads tied to a corporate credit card but never gave me any specifics about WHY or WHO they were supposedly protecting.  Please Please someone help me with this.  I love Apple products but this is causing me to HATE the Apple company.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Some educational groups are looking at device "cloning" so you'd setup a number of devices with the same apps, IPCU profile etc.  You might look at this site ( which was is great and was recommended by another member of this forum a while back)
    http://ipadeducators.ning.com/forum
As you mention though, licensing is still an issue and the EULA, as I currently understand it allows an app to be shared across multiple devices used by one person, or one device used by multiple persons.  Some educational groups use the VPP and assign a single license to one device/user and then purchase enough additional licenses to cover the other devices using the same AppleID, and keep track of the additional license purchases.  Last I looked the VPP spreadsheet only allowed on Apple ID or device assigned per license...so you'd have to keep separate records someplace and hope that this satisfied any legal team that might check software compliance at some point down the road.
Another option would be gifting the app, though I'm not sure how this would work if the device was transferred to another user, with another email address/Apple ID...

  • I need to print a mirror image of a PDF on my iPad.  Is this possible?

I need to print a mirror image of a PDF on my iPad for an iron on transfer.  Is this possible?  I have Pages and GoodReader but can't figure out how this would work on either app.  Help!

Can't be done as an exact copy from one Mac to the other.  The operating systems are system specific. First make sure your system doesn't need a firmware update to get 10.2 or later on it. You'll need to install 9 on it if it does, direct from a 9 retail CD that is compatible with it *.  This disc can't say Upgrade, Dropin, or OEM. To determine compatibility, identify your G4 tower:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3082
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42739
Then look at the OS 9 compatibility:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
    Then apply the correct update
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
The last Mac OS 9 to come retail is 9.2.1, and that's newer than 9.0.4, 9.0.2, and 9.1.
Your ghost image can be done using cloning software, but then you'll have to use a retail 10.3 installer and 10.3.9 combo update on the G4 tower.  Then use the Migration Assistant to import the data from the clone of the iBook. The 10.3 retail disc looks like * and does not say upgrade, dropin, or OEM.  The 10.3.9 combo update is here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxcombinedupdate1039.html
The clone to an external hard drive can be done with these instructions*:
http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html The import of the external hard drive with the migration assistant can be done with these instructions:

  • How do I separate a new calendar app from the one that came with ipad, so entries only are made in new app?

How do I separate the iPad's own generic calendar app from a calendar app I purchased, so that the entries I put into the new app don't cross over to the generic app?  Also, whenever changing over to a new calendar app, is it always possible to transfer all data from the old to the new or is there a limit on quantity or time frame ever?   Does it depend on the app?

    Cloning And Backup Tools
A bootable clone is an exact copy of your drive which is capable of booting your computer. Making a copy of your computer which is capable of actually starting the computer requires special copying procedures. Some people just back up data files but if you have problems you have to reinstall all your operating system and all your applications. With a bootable clone you just start up from the backup drive and clone back everything.
To copy files from one hard drive to another hard drive you can use:

  • I want to install the same 30 apps on 40 iPads.

    Hi!
I want to install the same 30 apps on 40 iPads.
Some of them cost money but I have iTunes cards.
Each device has its own unique appleID.
I am in Sweden so I cannot use the volume purchase program.
Do I do this app by app or is there a way to do it more easily?
    Regards

You probably want to go with some kind of cloning solution.
There has  been some discussion about the legality of cloning.  Many read it that cloning is ok, if you have purchased enough licenses for what you are doing.
Select a MDM???   Read the Google doc below covers cloning and nsdjoey write up.

  • HT202213 how to sync an ipad with two libraries

How do I share my itunes library between 2 devices?  Dragging the music over to the device isn't doing the trick...

Not quite sure this is what you are after, if not you'll need to explain further.
    Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans with iTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entires and import the local content you have on that box.

  • HT204370 I paused the movie download but did not turn off my IPad.  When I returned to restart, it has said "waiting" for over an hour.

I paused the movie download but did not turn off my IPad.  When I returned to complete the download, the "waiting" message has been on the screen for over an hour.  How can I complete the download?

I recommend purchasing lion on a USB drive at Apple Store. This will avoid all of the downloading hassles.
Also, be sure you clone your hard drive first. A lot of people want to go back to Snow Leopard and if you choose to do this cloning will make the process very easy.

  • Ipad will not connect to Itunes asks me to update which Cannot

    Hi
I recently plugged in ipad to my Macbook pro 3.1 (2007) running 10.8.2 - and get message cannot use ipad as need to update to Itunes 11.1 -
however this I cannot do - I tried 3 update to Mavericks , update just itunes and just yesterday again updated Itunes and these all FREEZE computer totally , I spent Days trying to work out what Caused the Freeze and trying every fix out there and only thing worked was Format HDD and install from Backup (timemachine or cloned HDD i have Backups) .
So the Computer Freezes Immediately After Startup in normal and safe mode if I put on Mavericks and OR itunes higher then what I got now (11.02 )
Now this is not a Problem for the computer - just turn off updates and I am happy , But now cannot use ipad , I have music , books, lots stuff sync from itunes .
Does anyone know how I can use Ipad3 (fully updated )  -with Itunes without updating Itunes - or maybe roll back Ipad system so can use ??
I had a google but could not find answer - everyone says update itunes on Computer which is one thing I cannot do .
So either I need to do a Update to Mavericks or just Itunes or something so can use ipad again ?
Any ideas appriciated as i cannot be only person with this Problem as Computer freezing with new itunes common ??
    Thanks Mark

    Hi Alfred
    thanks for the reply ,
HDD capacity is fine have a 1TB inside and has about 500GB free space - so that should not be a problem .
Seem's that the new Itunes causes a lot of freezing problems which i think is my problem , as Mavericks has the new itunes in - hence freezes computer - or just a Itunes update also freezes computer ?? I have spent days and days trying to fix the computer freezing with no luck - so rolled back to the 10.8.2 I had on a back up and that works fine and turned off an more updates ..
But because of this cannot use itunes and I need to to connect to the ipad - so any suggestions appriciated
    Cheers Mark

  • Scanned credit card details cloned

    Hi
I was trying to book a holiday online tonight and when entering the card details I used the 'scan card details' feature. The payment failed so I tried again. Before trying a third time I called my bank who told me that my credit card had just been cloned. I am concerned that the card scanning feature is not secure or that my iPad has been compromised.
    Can an anyone please advise?
    Thanks
    Rem.

    Hi
    Thanks for the responses.
There were no fraudulent charges made on the card.  When I rang the bank they said that they did not authorise the first two transactions as the card had 'just been cloned' - leading me to believe that this happened when I 'read' the card with the ipad camera.  I was at home on my WiFi paying on the Thomas Cook website which was showing the SSL padlock icon in the address bar.  I have subsequently received all relevant travel documents via email and called Thomas Cook to confirm the booking so am concluding that the website was genuine.
    Any other thoughts?
    Thanks
    Rem
