IPad Cloud Backup/Lockscreen bug

Hi
I had been away from home for a while and hadn't used my iPad on Wifi for a few weeks. Upon getting back home and opening the cover, I was presented with a dialog saying
iCloud Backup
This iPad hasn't been backed up in
4 weeks. Backups happen when
this iPad is plugged in, locked, and
connected to Wi-Fi.
<OK>
Fair enough, but the funny thing was, clicking OK, didn't do anything! the dialog remained on the screen, and I couldn't access any apps. Closing the smart cover just meant that when I opened, the dialog was still there. Locking the screen physically resulted in the "Swipe to unlock" being unavailable, and the same if I tried to power off the iPad. In the end I had to force-reset the iPad to fix it! I filmed the problem, video is here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9436839/IMG_1549.MOV
has anyone else seen this problem?

Wasn't using a mobile device to access me.com, or Safari.  I am using the *same* ID/password that my iPad was using - the same one (the only one I've ever had) on iTunes too.  I am 100% sure it backed it up - it completed the iCloud initial backup process without an error message, then I went back later in the day and looked at "Last backed up: 8:37am", which was the time I completed the backup process.  I checked the amount of space the backup consumed, and it wasn't much, but was something like half a gigabyte, leaving me with about 4.5gb of iCloud storage space remaining.  All of it seemed to be extremely indicative of actually backing up the iPad.  So at that point, instead of backing up a second time, I went ahead with the factory reset on the device and turned it back into the school when that was done.
Now I am getting no other options on this brand new (bought from Apple.com) iPad to restore from iCloud backup.  This blasted me.com message is all I see.   I tried entering in a wrong email into the login/password, and the error message came up there (where it did not give an error message when I logged in with the correct login/password), which seems to tell me the login/password are not the problem.
This is really enfuriating.  I followed apple's rules for using iCloud as a backup, bought a brand new product of theirs, and now none of it is working and I seem to be at risk of losing my backed up photos and programs and settings from the old iPad.  Really not pleased with this purchase at this point and need more help.  Is there an official place I can call or go besides here?

  • IPad Cloud Backup not found

I have been using a school purchased iPad for a few months, using my own private account, and have enjoyed it so much that I just bought my own.  Had to return the school's first, but did a complete cloud backup with it.  Double checked it - it completely backed up, had plenty of memory left, and everything was fine.  So I did a factory reset on that device and turned it in.  Got my new iPad today, signed in and selected iPad Cloud Restore from backup, and it tells me there is not a cloud backup for my account.  Seriously?  The two iPads were identical in their specs also.
What do I have to do?  This should be a piece of cake, but clearly something is messed up here.  Do I have to remove that old iPad (disassociate it from my apple ID) first (using manage devices in itunes?) - that seems like it might be risky and might get rid of the cloud backup if it's still there somewhere.
    Thanks for any help.

  • HT4910 Ipad cloud backup

How come if I have my Ipad plugged in, locked and we have wifi won't it back up to th cloud?

This may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your iPad that is preventing the backup.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

  • Oracle Cloud Backup Module Bug

    Hi,
    steps to reproduce:
    1. set export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.AL32UTF8 in your .bash_profile
    2. setup backup module for using Amazone S3 according to the doc
    3. test your rman backups, they should work just fine
    4. set export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.CL8MSWIN1251 in your .bash_profile
    5. start rman backup again, your backup will fail with error pointing to some backup module libraries (don't have exact error at the hand).

Any thoughts? Before I invest in this.Let us know the results after you completing testing.

    Hello Dawn,
If the backups do not show up, then you will need to go through and perform another back up, check out the following article that will assist with backing up to iCloud or you can even back up to your computer.

I keep getting a MSG that my device has not been backed up. Going thru manage iCloud I see ther are two backs (one for cell and iPad). They both say "incomplete ". If I delete them cloud backups will stop and I assume I will need to go back to the control.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

After deleting the backups, go back to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and make sure iCloud Backup is set to On (if not, turn it on).

Check the console app to see if there are any error messages. I had one app showing an issue (Pet Hotel) the error was (truncated):
    ERROR: Restore message response: 102 rename error: File name too long (63) at path "/var/mobile/Library/SafeHarbor/com.pocketgems.tappethotel/Container/Documents/ savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHis tory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGa meHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/sa vedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHisto ry/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGame History/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/save dGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory /savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHi story/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedG ameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/s avedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHistory/savedGameHist ory/savedGameHistory/1313349538-pocket_gems_crash_report.txt" (MBErrorDomain/102)
I manually snyc'ed that particular app and then re-ran the restore and am now the proud owner of a working iphone. Not sure it is the same problem or app but looking in the console was the key!

    ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/
    Good luck!

  • BT Cloud, another curious bug

Another curious bug to add the the BT Cloud chamber of horrors.
BT Cloud somehow decided on the Web Interface that my main device contained two separate top levels, 'D' and 'd'.
Most things I had backed up from my D drive showed up under 'D', with just a few under 'd'.
On the PC client, everything showed up under 'd'.
The extra 'd' was a bit irritating on the web interface, and none of the files saved in it was significant, and so I decided to delete it in the web interface.
    Result:
1: 'd' correctly deleted in the web interface  (they seem to have fixed the bug where you couldn't delete folders in the web interface)
2: 'd' deleted from what shows up in the PC client.  As the PC client never showed anything under 'D' but everything under 'd', when I look at my main device it now shows 'This folder does not contain any files.'
3: All the files still showing up correctly under 'D' on the web interface
4: PC client still knows what it is trying to back up from the D drive:
      - the auto-backup folders show up correctly when I look in 'Add to Backup' (usability bug: 'Add to Backup' doesn't admit to what path it thinks they are from)
      - it correctly backs up new files added to these auto-backup folders
      - it still knows about the backed up files if I look under 'All Files'; and remembers correctly what directory they came from. (usability bug: but not easy for the user to see what directory they came from)
5: No files actually deleted from my PC.
I don't trust BT Cloud at all yet, so I am only experimenting and waiting till it is ready as a backup solution.  Meanwhile, all my files are backed up elsewhere.  I didn't trust BT Cloud not to make an even bigger silly and delete lots of my original files; I trust it even slightly less now.
BT Cloud still has the makings of something that might be useful eventually, so I still keep hoping and trying ....

    Hi Sjtp,
Thanks for the feedback.  I will make sure the cloud team get this useful info.

  • TS3992 i-cloud backup message?

When I try to open my i-pad mini I get an i-cloud Backup message saying the i-pad has not been backed up for 3 weeks and must be plugged in, locked and connected to wi fi for back-ups to happen. I have tried plugging it in to my laptop but nothing seems to happen and I still cannot open the i-pad. What do I need to do?

Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds or so until your ipad reboots. That should clear away the message.

I updated my iPad today to the latest operating system (8).
I am able to sign into the cloud on my desktop using my password.
However, when I attempt to sign in on my iPad so that I can make it cloud backup, my password is not accepted, and hence I cannot make a backup.

  • Cloud Backup Confirmation

    Hi,
I've been getting this error message every time I try to plug my iPad 1 in to my computer
      An unknown error occurred (0XE8000012)
This is a new computer so I don't have everything backed up.  The only solution I've been able to find by googling the error message forces me to reset my iPad 1 and lose everything on it, which is a problem because the computer I had everything on recently died and I'm trying to get the iPad 1 to work with it.
First, is that the only solution--resetting my iPad 1 and losing everything on it?
Second, I decided to buy more cloud space and backup the important stuff that's on my iPad 1 (iBooks and ReAddle Documents app).  As expected, when I started backing up everything in those two apps to my cloud account, it told me the process would be around 26 hours.  For a while everything seemed to be on schedule but then the next morning, when I should have had about 10 hours to go with the backup to Cloud, the iPad 1 told me the backup was complete.  Since the backup completed so much faster than the estimate it gave me was, I'm worried everything didn't get backed up to cloud.  I want to make sure everything for those two apps is backed up on my cloud acocunt.  Is there a way to confirm that all that stuff from those two apps was actually backed up?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Second question first.....
I find those time estimates to not be very accurate at all. What I would do is go to Settings>iCloud>Storage and Backup >Manage Storage and look at the size of the backup. If that looks correct to you, you should be OK. The other option is to backup again. It should not take nearly as long. You should also make sure that you turned those Apps on for iCloud backups in Settings>iCloud>Storage and Backup>Manage Storage>Your iPad name>Backup Options>Show all Apps.
