IPad connection issues via USB to xbox360

Hello, I have an iPad 1st gen and am connecting it to my xbox360 via USB, But it won't connect. Where the little battery icon is ,in the top right corner, it just says "Not charging"  For some weird reason I can't get my xbox360 to see my iPad.  Yes I have tryed all the USB ports.   Any ideas?

That's not really a valid analogy.  After all, many devices will recognize an iPad/iPod/iPhone and play music from it, and the xbox 360 will recognize and play music/media from a Zune, so it's not a crazy thought to try and hook in an iPad.  Unfortunately, I think MS wan't the 360 to only work well with the Zune (just like Apple only wants iTunes to work well with their products).

    Welcome to the discussions, Steveru!
I think what you are asking is can you simply continue Time Machine backups by adding the new USB drive, correct? The answer is not exactly. See below for details.
To use the new USB drive for Time Machine backups, you'll need to Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock and open Time Machine. Click on Select Disk and click your USB drive to highlight it, then click Use for Backup. Here's the rub....Time Machine will make a new full complete backup of everything on your Mac's hard drive. There's no way to avoid this. After that, it will continue to make scheduled incremental backups just like it did before on the Time Capsule.
If you ever need to go back to your original backups on the Time Capsule, you'll need to right-click the Time Capsule icon on the dock and choose Browse Other Time Machine Disks.
When the USB drive start to fill, you may decide that you no longer need all the old backups on the Time Capsule disk since you should have a good history of backups on the USB drive at that point.
So, you could erase the Time Capsule disk and then start backing up to the Time Capsule disk again. At that time, it will also make a complete backup on the first pass and then normal incremental backups from that point forward. When the TC begins to fill again, then you could erase the older backups on the USB drive and start backups again on that drive. Then switch to the other drive in the future to keep things going indefinitely. If you go with this type of flip flop plan, you should always have a solid history of many months of backups at any given time.
Will a plan like this work? I don't answer a question on the forum unless I've done it myself. This has been working well for me for almost 3 years.
Pondini, the resident expert on Time Machine and Time Capsule affairs, may have some comments on this as well. If you haven't already seen his excellent guide, Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule or +Time Machine FAQ+, these are the best available sources of information on this subject on the Internet.
Or, if you don't want to erase any your backups, you could of course keep adding a new USB drive when the current drive is about to fill.

  • Charging iPad One vs iPad 3rd gen via USB...

just got an iPad 3rd gen.  As I've read here, apparently, the PC's USB port doesn't supply enough power to make the 3rd gen battery charging icon say "charging".  Instead, it reads "not charging".  However, it initially DOES say 'charging', before changing to 'not charging' a couple of minutes later.
Question:  my iPad 1st gen ALWAYS charges via PC USB port.  Why?  Both AC chargers are 10 watts I believe, so why would the 1st gen charge while the third gen doesn't?  Does the 3rd gen require more charging watts than the 1st gen unit does?

Using the 10W charger, an iPad 1 will charge in about 3-4 hours, however, the iPad 3 requires about double the time. How long does it take to charge your iPad 1 using the PC's USB port?
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Connecting 5800 via USB

Can someone direct me to the solution of how to connect my Nokia 5800 phone to my PC via USB? Now i can accept the fact that i may have missed vital instructions somewhere along the way, but when i have installed 2 x versions of the Nokia Suite 6 & 7 and attempted to connect ONLY to find that amongst the methods given, USB is not amongst the options, makes it beggars belief that with most devices connected to PC are USB. So why is it that to connect to the PC via this software the only viable option is hard wire in this case Cable Connection. So i wait and wait after intializing connection, only to be prompted that the cable connection could not establish connectivity to your phone. Correct me if i'm wrong but i can't connect via infrared or bluetooth only via USB. Has anyone come accross the same issue. According to some posts the software will encompass this? NOT

what version of pc suite do u crrently have installed on ur pc
also what OS are u using?
have u connected ur phone in pc suite mode?
if its just version 7, try going to ur control panel > add remove programs > select pc connectivity solution > repair (this is a rough guide since i dont know what ur os is)
if u have both 6 and 7 installed i would recommend unisntalling everything and downloading the most current version of pc suite from http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/download-software/nokia-pc-suite/download
bluetooth is also an option when connecting ur phone to the pc via pc suite but ur pc will need to be bluetooth enabled as well either inbuilt or external bluetooth dongle

  • Unable to print to directly connect printer via USB when on VPN

We are experiencing and issue when users connect to the VPN and want to print. The printers in question so far are all HP printers J6450, J6500, J4500, F4280. There is the exception of one user who has a J6450 in one office and a K80 in another, the K80 will work over the VPN but the 6450 will not.
All the printers are hooked up via USB none are wireless so there should not be any issue with not being a split tunnel VPN. The problem is the computer will not communicate with the printer while on the VPN so they cannot print locally, but as soon as they disconnect they are able to communicate and print.
We have eliminated the possibility of Sophos (our antivirus/firewall) blocking anything by turning any services off, and also completely uninstalling it. We use checkpoint for our VPN. I am just curious if anyone has ran into an issue like this in the past and what they did to rectify the issue.

  • Daisy chain two external drives via Firewire, then connect one via USB to the TC?

    Hi,
I have two external drives that have both Firewire and USB ports. My 1st generation 500 gb Time Capsule (maybe all of them?) only has USB ports so up til now, I have connected one or the other drive via USB. (I've tried to connect both to a powered USB hub but one drive has problems showing up. At this point I only use the one drive that shows up and connect it directly with no hub to the Time Capsue.)
My question is: Can I daisy chain the two drives via Firewire and then connect one of them (probably the one that has no problems connecting with USB) to the Time Capsule via USB?
    Second, somewhat-related problem...
I don't know why one drive isn't connecting very well when directly connected to the Time Capsule. Both are Fantom drives. One is a 1TB, the one that has prblems connecting is a 250GB. I've tried connecting directly or through a powered hub. The 1B has no problems, the 250 gb won't show up most of the time and disconnects itself fairly quickly if it does connect. I've switched cables; that hasn't helped. The 1TB stays connected most of the time but sometimes it disconnects too. I suspect the Time Capsule just isn't able to deal with external drives so I don't puch it. It would be nice to be able to have both drives accessable through the TC though.
    Thanks for any help.
    Cheers,
    John

Doing some experimentation, connecting the drives directly to the MBP:
    - Neither of the two drives Firewire daisy-chained and going through the powered USB hub connected to the MBP mount. I was using old aliases on desktop.*They don't show up on network otherwise. (Each drive self-mounts with both Firewire and USB direct connections.)
*Even after making new aliases, neither drive will mount using their new aliases when directly connected (not through hub) with USB or Firewire (and Thunderbolt adapter.) That's weird.
    - Both the 240 gb and the 1TB drives going through powered hub connected to MBP mount by themselves.
    - Two drives daisy-chained via Firewire and one drive connected to the MBP via Firewire (and Thunderbolt adapter) self-mount. No surprise there but that doesn't help me as I want to have the drives further away from the MBP and connected to the Time Capsule, which doesn't have a Firewire port anyway...
    - All of the USB and the Firewire cables work as does the Thunderbolt adapter. I tested them.
I wonder.... I have a Firewire to what appears to be an Ethernet connector. I wonder if that would be any good. I'm afraid to try it though...

You do not want to try to sync photos back from a computer that you do not sync with. That will erase everything from the phone. The pictures you downloaded to the computer do not go back to the camera roll. They are part of the iTunes sync process now. Take and put them on a CD or flash drive, put them on the computer at home and then sync them back via the photo tab in iTunes.

  • Connecting TC via USB

Can you connect to the time capsule via USB and backup through time machine?
Is there a way to bridge between wireless and wired networks? I have a work wireless network and a home network. I'd like to backup my home and my work Mac's to the TC, but they reside on different networks. That's why I'm asking the above question so I can keep the TC on my home network and then backup the work one via USB.
    Thanks!

    Pondini,
May I ask why/how you determine Ethernet wont be as fast as USB w/o more specific detail?
From timing roughly 30 gb initial backups of the same Mac in different ways. Most ratings and benchmarks do not measure real-world processes; and you certainly can't compare TM backups to, say, large file transfers, because there's so much else going on.
The actual speed of a TM backup, for example, will vary widely depending on which part of the backup it's on. The first things backed-up are your Applications and System folders, which consist of a huge number of mostly very small items. For each item, a number of things have to be done on the backup disk, such as various directory entries, construction of hard links, etc. On a per-megbyte basis, that will be much slower than, say, later in the backup when a video folder containing a few multi-gb files is involved. Even measured in 15-minute increments, the speed at one time may be more than twice as fast as another.
You also have to consider where the work is done -- I don't know about Ethernet, but much of the work that's done by the FireWire chipset has to be done by the main CPU when using USB. If nothing much else is going on, F/W 400 and USB are about the same speed; but if there's much other demand for the CPU, USB is going to be slower.
Just as an example, on my system, with my particular mix of data, here's what I clocked as an average for the full backup with little other load on the Mac:
    FireWire 800: 70 gb/hr
    FireWire 400 40 gb/hr
    USB 2.0 36 gb/hr
    AEBS via Ethernet: 21 gb/hr
    AEBS via Wireless: 12 gb/hr
By definition, your mileage will vary.

No. You can use a firewire cable, either to use target disk mode or computer-to-computer networking, or an ethernet cable, for computer-to-computer networking.
