IPad connection to new computer. 2 options: 1) set up as new iPad, 2) restore from (non-existent) backup. Will option 1) wipe all my data, setting
How do I connect my iPad to iTunes on my laptop (not done so before) without losing apps, settings & data. Option 1 is the only one that I can do as there is no backup, but option 1) sounds like it will wipe everything and set iPad up as factory-fresh device?
I need to connect to upgrade to ios8 as there is insufficient memory on the iPad to download the update files.
Thanks
Stephen
It will wipe everything from your device. You can transfer any iTunes store purchases (music, apps, etc.) using the instructions in the article below. However, you need to make sure that you import your photos before doing the "Set up as New":

Hi, whenever I plug my phone into iTunes, the phone interface pops up and I am given only two options: restore the phone from an old backup, or set the phone up as a new phone. I want to do neither of these things because the phone doesn't need to be restored, and it was set up when I first bought it a couple months ago. Help???
Apparently it does need to be restored because that is what it is requesting. You will need to restore it as New or from a recent backup if you made one.

While updating my iphone 4s to ios6, I had to restore it. Now every time I connect to itunes, I get the "Set Up Your iPhone" window with the set up as new iphone and restore from backup options. After the restore, I got everything except my apps and music back. Do I need to set the phone up as new again?

Itune forces to setup as new ipad or restore from backup?!
I have 3 ipads and 2 iphones in my house sharing the same apple ID, but when I tried to connect one of the ipads to itune on my PC, it only gives option to set up as new phone or restore from backup, either option would wipe out the data I already have on the ipad. All other devices can connect to itune without problems. Found another thread with the same problem, but the solution of logging on windows with different user does not solve my problem. Can anyone help? Itune has to be the worst and dumbest product from apple!
I too have this very frustrating issue. It worked fine 2 weeks ago.
I have two devices setup, and they have the same name, but that has never been a problem as one is a 5G 80GB iPod, and the other is an iPhone 3GS.
Now, everytime I plug my iPhone into my PC, iTunes comes up and asks me to restore.
Grrr... I have restored 3 times. I have also performed a complete iPhone reset and a restore... same thing, and I have no idea why.
Please help.
Thanks,

Sync as new iPad or restore from iPod?
I just bought a new iPad (16GB). When I connected it to my four-year-old MacBookPro running 10.5.8, I was asked in iTunes whether I wanted to set it up as a new iPad or restore from my second-generation iPod. I have sime new apps on the iPad which I do not want overwritten, but I also would like to have many of the apps on my iPod on my iPad as well. Which option should I select?
Not sure if I'd do it from an iPhone, but the clear advantages would be (same for ipad wifi to ipda 3G) that your saved passwords and other app-specific info is brought over. Otherwise, while it's easy to re-sync all apps etc, their info (logon, customizations etc.) would need to be setup anew as well.
Why not try it? You can always restore-mode and start from scratch if there are ANY issues.

Help updated my ipad with IOS 7.0.4. It asks me what language, chooses my wi-fi and then asks.........1 - set up as a new ipad, 2 - restore from iclouds or 3 - restore from itunes but won't restore as not enough memory! What do I do now?
I don't want to lose all my pics, songs etc
Whats my next move as I CANNOT use the ipas at the moment!!!!!!!!Your iPhone's iOS must be same or newer than the one in backups. In your case it is older so you need to update your iPhone and then recover it with backup.

I just got a new iPhone and i set up iCloud on my girlfriend's account. To change it on settings it says delete account. Will this delete her all her data and back up data for iCloud on her iPhone and iPad? Can i change it without deleting it? Please help.
Delete the account on your phone. This will not delete any data on her phone or iPad, or data stored in iCloud.

I needed to install a previously purchased CS6 versus on new computer. To do this, I had to download a version from CC. I will not be using CC. How do I activate Photoshop under my license so that it does not stop working when I am out of communication range a month from now?
The CC version will not activate with your perpetual CS6 license. Download the version from here:

Your number should work with this version. -
I recently moved to Australia and received a new iphone with a local AUS number. I have a backup of my US iphone in the icloud. Question: when I activate my new AUS iphone which option should I choose - new phone or restore from backup? I would like to have all my contacts, email, etc. however wasn't sure that option was appropriate since it is a different/new number and a new phone.
Yes, as new iPhone then restore from backup.

Try contacting your carrier. Perhaps they need to do something at thier end.

I have a new hanset as my previous one ws damaged and everything was lost. When backing up which option should I use "set up as a new iphone or, restore from this , back up Jo's iphone"..
Thanks. You may do whatever you like.
If you want to set it up using the backup of your old iphone then choose that.
If you do not then choose as new. -

1. set up as new
2. transfer you wife's purchases.

I have the latest version of iTunes and the iOS6 installed on my iPhone4. The restore from my iTunes backup stops at the end of the recovery process though. Do I need to change anything in my computer settings to let it totally finish?

I recently upgraded to 10.5.8 from 10.3.9. I have a Powerbook G4. All was working well with no problems until I upgraded. Initially, everything was still working fine then after about a week it stopped connecting to the internet both wirelessly and via ethernet. It was down for about 2 weeks when I started to 'play' with the settings. I don't know what I did, but it worked again. The computer stopped working again about a month ago and I just am now getting to it. I don't know what else to do and why it stopped.

I have downloaded iOS 7.0.6 but it will not install until the ipad is finished restoring from the Icloud backup. I've been using the mini for about a month, so why is it not completely restored? How do I make the restore process finish?
When and where was the iPad/charger purchased? It's covered by a 1-year warranty.
The problem may be the USB cable.
