Ipad crashes Belkin router

I have had my ipad for over a year with no problems. In the last week my Belkin wireless router has been crashing regularly (every few minutes). Initially I thought the router was faulty but I have singled out the ipad as the problem, as I also have a laptop, desktop and iphone sharing the Belkin.
I have OS 4.3.1, could this update be the problem? I am reluctant to change any settings on the router as I use it for Sky, and the hassle I went through to get that working as they lock you to their own...
Anyone had a similar issue after the new OS? Can I go back a release?

Thanks for your message, but I have used this ipad with this router for well over a year, with never a single problem and only changes in Ipad OS. Only this week has it started crashing, which doesn't make much sense to me.
I have also checked with Belkin and there are no firmware updates.
I'm trying to get the latest OS 4.3.3, but that consistantly fails telling me the server has timed out. I have made sure that nothing else is using the network, so am baffled (and irritated) by this as well.

  • New iPad Wi-Fi ;  wont connect to Belkin Router

Hi...grateful for any experts' help out there .. So I got a new 16Gb iPad for Xmas, lucky man I know.... Im a pro TV/film composer with 2 macbooks, 3 ipods, an iphone 4 and a studio g5 so Im cool with Apple stuff and know my way around them... BUT - I cant wi fi connect to the internet via our home router, a Belkin N10117 Wireless G Router. In terms of info I should say that:
    - the iPad can see the router and connects to it but loading Safari says 'no internet connection'
    - we have 2 ipod touches, an iphone 4 and 2 macbooks successfully connected to the net via wi fi using the Belkin
    - when I try joining the network the IP address and the Subnet Mask are filled in, but the Router DNS Search Domains etc all blank which I take to be bad..
    - I have tried the following: brightness fix/multiple restart of router, ipad etc/reset network settings of iPad, forget network etc, then went to Belkin control panel and added Mac Address filtering, adding in Wi Fi address of iPad , still no joy - all other items worked fine after this.
Should add also that my bro in law also got a new iPad on the same day - his also did not work with the Belkin but worked fine when he got home on his network. So it seems it is a setting issue within the iPad/belkin rather than a specific hardware issue or router issue.
Ill be so very grateful for any info - have been on the forum/support sites searching all afternoon and now Im asking for help. One poster quoted success with the Mac address filtering route but no luck for me... if anyone can tell me the Belkin router will categorically will not work with the iPad then so be it but that would seem very poor given that all other hardware works perfectly (theres no info on Belkin site).
To quote Sting and his hundred million bottles washed up on the shore, it seems "Im not alone in being alone" with this problem.... theres a LOT of iPad Wi Fi issues. I love Mac with a passion and use all their gear on TV and film scores but am currently VERY unhappy. Anyones help on helping transform this from a pretty beermat into something useful? Otherwise its a refund and a new guitar....Thanks so much guys.... KB

Hi Ralph... thanks for responding on this tricky issue, really appreciated.
Yes - Ive tried Autofill off, that was mentioned on an earlier search, no joy. The router is probably 3y or so old, and has worked perfectly. According to the Belkin Control Panel (which I currently have open) the firmware is the latest version - but have to say I dont know how to check:
.... before Sept 2009, do not have an implementation of the IEEE 802.11 n-protocol that is completely compliant with the standard..
would there be anywhere in the control panel settings that gave us that info? Im sure you're on the right track about the iPad being picky.. Im just not knowledgable enough to know what settings to change myself.. Im curious as to why the Router/DNS/Search Domains boxes were empty whereas on all other mac items theyre automatically filled in....? As you say Belkin are great; Ill buy a new router if I have to but dont know whether that would solve the problem?
    so grateful for any help...cheers

  • I have a dvr and I want to monitor from my phone.  this worked when I had a Belkin router that let me open ports.  I use "canyouseeme" and it can't see 80, 9000 or 1025. How do I make them available?

I have a Lorex DVR that I want to monitor from my IPhone and IPad.  I used to be able to do this when I had a Belkin router (easy to open ports) but I bought the AirPort Extreme router and no longer have that capability.  When I use "canyouseeme" they can NOT see 80, 9000 or 1025.  Lorex says I need them all available in order to access.  Help!  And all the help I see refers to a earlier version of the AirPort Utility so I cant use those to look at anything, I cant find the same screens, I have version 6.1 (610.31).  I also don't really understand how ports work, so I need a pretty basic explanation.

Well...I went to the modem (Westell, WireSpeed), found the NAT settings, once again, I'm WAY over my head, I am assuming this is a TCP connection (as opposed to a UDP) and per Lorex my mobile devices will use port 1025.  So I gave it a "global port range" of 1-10 and I indicated that the "base host port" was 80, 1025, & 9000 (ports 1,2,3).  When I selected the 'enable' it asked for a "host devise" my choices are my IPhone, IMac and the IP address for the dvr, so I choose the dvr.  I still cannot connect and canyouseeme still can NOT find these open ports.  This is taking up my whole day! I don't know how people figure this stuff out.

  • Can't see apple tv after upgrading to belkin router

Just upgraded my old belkin router to the belkin play max router. Everything works great with the exception of not being able to see my appletv any more in itunes. Just wondering if anyone else has used this router with any success.

Totally agree, I upgraded from an N1 Belkin to a play-max top of the range belkin, now my itunes home share and remote application on my ipad/itouch do not work, tried everything, rebuilt machine etc (only fix that worked it to plug back in the N1 router!). Belkin tried to help but now realise they do not have a fix, hence are ignoring my calls Going to look for alternative router, though the play-max signal strength was superb
Apple were very helpful as I also spent an hour on the phone with them to! Not their problem other than they should look at Belkins marketting as they play-max says "works nicely with itunes" as part of it's plus points!

  • HP D1110 Belkin Router problem

I have the HP D1110 Photosmart All in One printer which has worked fine connected wirelessly to a Linksys WT54G router.  This router  crashed about 2 months ago and I installed a Belkin N750 DB Wireless router.  On the network I have a desktop PC running Windows Vista Home Premium connected by ethernet, a Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 7 connected wirelessly, and my HP D110 also connected wirelessly.  The HP software is installed on both computers.
After installing the Belkin router, I began to notice my desktop PC's screen flickering and hearing what sounds like the sound of a thumb drive being installed and removed from a USB port.  This is occuring as frequently as every few seconds and sometimes every couple of minutes.  I uninstalled every device that was connected to any of the USB ports on the desktop PC but the problem continued.  With these devices unplugged, I turned off the HP D110 and the problem went away.
I next disconnected the cables to my router and turned all devices off then restarted the router, connected the desktop PC, restarted the desktop, then restarted the printer.  The problem was still present.  I have checked for updates and my printer is up to date.  I uninstalled the HP software and reinstalled.  The problem still is present.  I ran a printer network test and printed the network configuration.  The HP D1110 passed everything and shows "connected".  My printer prints, scans, receives emails...no problem.
I continue to have this annoying problem despite my printer's successful operation.  I have searched online for solutions and have checked and double checked my router and printer wireless settings.  I have even changed the printer IP address to static and made sure the IP address, MAC address and DNS match the router.  I am using WPA/WPA2/PSK security, WPA-PSK-WPA2-PSK authentication and AES encryption.
I would really appreciate someone's input on this because this annoying problem only goes away if I shut down the printer.
    Thanks in advance
    This question was solved.

    Thanks for the reply.
The printer is connected to the router wirelessly.  While awaiting the reply, I disconnected all devices from the router, disconnected the router from the cable modem.  I then reset the cable modem, reconnected the router and powered it up.  I next connected my desktop computer, installed the router management software and returned the router to default settings  as if it were straight out of the box.  Next I configured the router for SSID, security, etc.  I then uninstalled the HP software and reinstalled the HP software.  I then restarted my desktop computer and my the problem has not reappeared since that point which has been about 24 hrs ago.  For right now all appears to be fine.
May I have an email address in the event the problem returns?  I feel this is just a lull in the storm.
    Thanks

  • IPad Messing up Router?

I heard a long time ago that the original iPad was banned from some college campuses because it somehow messed with the wifi. Now that someone is in our house with an iPad, the router has been crashing frequently, and nobody can get on the internet during those times.
Is this possible? Is it possible, but Apple fixed it with an iOS update? Is this impossible? Thanks for any info. I can't find the old article because searching "ipad messes up router" gives me articles on how to use the iPad.

I found a complaint about the Apple TV doing this on Discussions, and I also found this on Yahoo! Answers:
The thing is, the rest of the answers were idiotic like "your not getting enough internet from your company" and "get the xoom powered by droid", so I don't know if these people really have a problem, or they spilled milk on their router.
Why is my iPad 2 messing up my wifi so bad?
Practically whenever we turn it on, it always messes up the wifi so bad that we have to turn off everything that uses wifi and disconnect and reconnect. Does this happen to anyone else? Is there a way to solve this?

Answerer 1YES! this happened to me with my iPad. It would disconnect and screw with our wifi. go to the apple store and tell them this, the will give you a new one and now mine works(:

There is a bug in the spellchecking functionality when typing in the web view or while using Blogsy App. Why? Why my IPad crashes so often?

I have always found spell check to be "buggy" in every version of all of the iOS's that I have run on my original model iPad and my new iPad - especially when replying and typing posts in these forums. It works perfectly in every other application on my iPad but it has never worked perfectly in any web browser that I have used on my iPad - no matter what I have done to try to correct it. That is what MY experience has been with spell check on my iPads.
As for the crashes on your iPad try these basic troubleshooting steps.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit all apps and restart. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • How do I set up my Belkin router to forward ftp port to macMini?

I am trying to set up my spare macMini (non-intel) as an ftp server, but I am not able to connect to the ftp server (office) from a remote location with my MacBook Pro (home). I have tried to make the right settings as below:
    1. forwarded ports 20 and 21 on my Belkin router to the private IP of my macMini (192.168.2.15)
    2. set up a dynamic dns account xxx.dyndns.org so that this domain is updated with the current public IP
    3. set Sharing Preferences to allow ftp access and turned off the Firewall
I think the port forwarding info is not correct because it does connect if I use the DMZ setting and hard code the public IP to the private IP.
    Any help appreciated,
    Cynthia

Are you sure that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) doesn't block the ftp ports?
Is is fairly common these days for ISPs not to allow any kind of file server on ordinary household contracts.
Anyway, I'd suggest you rule that out before you get further into the intricacies of port forwarding.
I also hope that you only have the firewall turned off for the ftp ports -- or if not, that your router has firewall protection.

So here I am, been trying to re-download all my Apps back since couple days ago, I plugged into iTunes and can't figure out at all !! I read this support : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1391 but I didn't see any "purchased" in my iTunes 10.2.0.34.

There's no easier way just using iTunes, which is annoying; you can make it easier by regularly syncing the iPad to your desktop and taking backups of the desktop.

The original text (with carriage returns) is shown below --->:
Before you access the Range Expander's web page, you need to gather some information (that you'll need once you do access the WRE54G web page).
    You need:
    1) The "IP Address" (of your Router/Wireless Access Point as seen by your local network). This will be something like "192.168.1.254" (depending on your local network's range of IP addresses).
    2) The "Sub-net Mask" (for your Router/Wireless Access Point as seen by your local network). Usually, this will be "255.255.255.0" (or "255.255.255.255").
    3) The (Default) "Gateway" Address (for your Router/Wireless Access Point as seen by you local network). This will usually be the "first" IP address in your network's range of IP addresses. For our example network above having a range of IP addresses of 192.168.1.1 through 192.168.1.255, the first IP address is "192.168.1.1" and so the "Gateway" Address will probably be "192.168.1.1".
    4) The "SSID" (Site Survey ID) of your network. This is the network name of your local network (i.e. the one you originally logged onto the network if you've already connected your computer wirelessly up with the router/wireless Access Point).
    5) The "Channel" your Wireless Access Point is using (from "1" through "11". A typical "Channel" used is "6".
    6) Wireless Network Encryption - you need to know if you are using encryption on your wireless network. You'll most likely either not be using it or your will be using either 40-bit (really 64-bit) WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) encryption, 128-bit WEP encryption, or the newer standard WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key) security settings. When you get to the WRE54G web-based configuration page, you will need to "enable" Security Settings (if yoiur using it) and then, in the next web config page that appears, enter WEP encryption key or enter the WPA-PSK pre-shared key used that is currently used for your local wireless network.
NOTE: In the WRE54G web configuration page, if you are using encryption, BEFORE you enter the info (into the web-page configuration fields) noted in Item 1 through 5 above, you will want to click the "enable" button for "Wirelss Security", then click on the "Edit Security Settings" button, enter your encryption key on the next web page that appears, and then click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the web-page. The WRE54G will save your security setting to its Flash memory and then re-boot itself. You may want to unplug/replug the AC power to the WRE54G at this time and then re-log in to the WRE54G at its IP address of 192.168.1.240 (which I will explain how to do below).
Before accessing the WRE54G web-based configuration page by pointing your web browser to "192.168.1.240", do the following:
    A. Connect the Ethernet cable that came with the WRE54G Ver.3 to the WRE54G (lift the small lid on the top of the WRE54G and plug the Ethernet CAT-5 cable into the RJ-45 jack there). Then plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into your computers RJ-45 jack (I assume your computer has one, right?).
    B. Change your computer's IP Address to use a "Manual" IP address rather than "DHCP". Then enter the following "static" IP address: "192.168.1.50". This is an good example address, but other addresses in the range of "192.161.1.XXX" where X is 1 to 255 will work (except I would not use 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.240, or 192.168.1.255).
    C. Plug the WRE54G into the AC power. (check the lights on the WRE54G to make sure they are correct - the WRE54G startup documentation talks about this or I can give details later).
    D. Boot up your computer (make sure the network setting still show "manual" IP address and a static IP address of "192.168.1.50".
    E. Bring up your web browser and enter into the address field the WRE54G's IP address of "192.168.1.240".
    F. In less than a minute, the web-based configuration page should appear. Proceed cautiously to enter the configuration values as I've noted above in Steps 1 - 6. After clicking on the "Save" button at the bottom of the WRE54G's web pages, the WRE54G will always do a "reboot". I suggest unplugging and replugging the WRE54G into the AC after each reboot (just to make sure a cold reboot actually happens).
NOTE: I would also suggest that you enter the "IP Address" of the Wireless Access Point (see Step 1 above) LAST after entering and saving all the other WRE54G configuration values. That way, you will still be able to log onto the WRE54G at the default IP Address of "192.168.1.240" and make sure all the values are saved correctly (in case you make a mistake and enter the wrong IP Address for the Wireless Access Point). Note that each time you reboot the WRE54G and log into it with your web browser, you will want to "Refresh" the web-page screen when you go to "192.168.1.240" so you can see the updated page contents. If you screw up the configuration, you can always use the "reset" button (you need to use a paper clip to push it) on the side of the WRE54G to reset the WRE54G back to its default values. Then you can start over from the beginning.
My experience has been that if you have correctly configured the WRE54G and it works on your wireless network, you will be able to unhook the "hard-wired" Ethernet cable (from between the WRE54G and your computer) and still be able to wirelessly access the WRE45G at its IP address of "192.168.1.240" using your web browser
If you want, you can change the WRE54G's Password (or Username and Password) to values only you know so no one will be able to get into your WRE54G and change your settings maliciously or inadvertantly. Let me know if the above helps you or just confuses you.

    Hi AngryDrake,
    Thanks for providing that information.
Are you working from Parallels, Fusion or from some sort a VPN environment?
If you are using the printer in a virtual environment, then please try accessing the printer's EWS in a regular environment just to see if you have the same results.
Use Safari when accessing the printer's EWS, other browsers sometimes won't allow it to open.
Since the printer is setup on the network and you are able to print, you just can't access the printer's  EWS, I would  update the firmware on the printer which should allow you then to access the printer's  EWS through a regular environment. HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer Drivers.
Select your operating system, click next, click the link for firmware.
If you are still having issue, then make sure the printer is connected directly to the Router or Airport and not a switch.
Please let me know the results.
    Thank You.

  • Why is Time Capsule Internet Slower than Belkin Router?

My Time Capsule is conneted via Ethernet to my Belkin Wireless router and is serving as my wireless backup drive.
I am extending the Time Capsule "network" via an AirPort Express in order to boost the signal over distance.
However I find consistently that when I log into the Time Capsule, my internet access is significantly slower than if I access it over the Belkin wireless router, whether I use the Airport Express or not.
I've also found that logging into the Belkin from my Mac to do my Time Capsule backups seem to run considerably faster and have fewer "stalls" than when going direct to the Time Capsule, which also seems quite strange.
Is there some reason for this? Something in my settings conflicting? One would assume that with the Mac going directly to the Time Capsule which is connected directly via Ethernet, that it would be faster than going through the 3rd party Belkin router, or at least no different.

Let me just get it clear..
    Belkin is main router..
TC is bridged and plugged into it by ethernet.
Express is doing extend wireless to the TC over 5ghz.
Now there is a couple of misunderstandings..
The Time Capsule is set for the 5GHz band ONLY to avoid conflict with the numerous 2.4GHz radios in close proximity, including the Belkin, automatic channel selection.
TC is not able to shut off the 2.4ghz.. even if you don't use it.. it will work.
So it is better to set it up and use it on fixed wireless channel out of the way. Indeed if it is some distance from the belkin rather than right next to it.. you can use roaming network setup. Both Belkin and TC use the same ssid ie wireless name.. same security ie WPA2 AES = WPA2 Personal. Same security password.
But different channel.. IMHO it is better to lock the wireless channel. Set TC to 11 and belkin to 1.
Wireless channel on 5ghz is less of an issue but I recommend lower end channels.. ie <40.
Extending wireless on 5ghz is often poor.. the range is actually bad.. and link speed can be worse than using 2.4ghz.. so I would carefully test the speed using wireless on 2.4ghz and then on 5ghz. .If possible only use 5ghz on single hop up close to the TC.
Any wireless that does double hop.. ie TC--Express--computer will go at half the speed of TC--computer, if they link at the same speed. This is caused by double hop wireless being highly inefficient way to extend wireless.
If the TC is faster by ethernet via the Belkin than via the TC I would find that difficult to follow and you will need to give me exact model number of the belkin.
That the belkin 2.4ghz wireless is faster than the TC is no surprise.. apple limit wireless to N lite at 2.4ghz.. whereas the belkin is probably 300mbit. And better signal.
You have heaps of testing to do.
