Ipad dead !!

Hi, I used my iPad normally yesterday night, battery almost full, and this morning the iPad is totally dead, I thought maybe the battery was empty so I plugged it in, no sound to be heard and it is just plain dead !! I cannot re-start it and nothing happens when I touch any of the control buttons. Can anyone help me out please ? I can't bring it to the Apple store as there is no apple store in the country I live and I have bought my iPad in the USA.
Thank you.

Same problem - just playing on Angry Birds and suddenly the screen went black and nothing.
Holding down the on/off and home buttons together brought it to life and the iTunes logo appeared instructing me to plug the iPad into my computer. In the iTunes window a message appeared informing me that the Ipad was in recovery mode. The next bit is a bit of a pain - the only way as far as I can see to get the iPad out of recovery mode is to restore it to it's original factory settings. This was easy enough to do because my personal settings had been backed up via iTunes. It is just annoyingly time consuming.
Does anybody know of an easier and quicker way to rectIfy this frustrating problem. The problem would have been a bigger problem if I had been away from home without access to my computer.

  • IPad DEAD after iOS 4.2 upgrade

I got my iPad during the Summer (got it as a gift during a corporate trip to China).
I've been using it since, no problems at all.
A few days ago I upgraded the OS to the new 4.2 version and in the beginning everything was ok.
At some random point, I tried to switch it on (wake it, I never shut it down) and it was dead. I pressed both buttons for a few seconds and fortunately it booted. After that it worked fine, until I tried to switch it on again the next day. This time it was harder to make it "come to life" (took a few tries), but it finally did. I used it normally for a few minutes and then put it to sleep. I tried turning it on 30 minutes later, but I faced the same problem.
Finally, after 1-2 days of the same problem, it is now totally dead. The 2 buttons trick works no more; I have tried everything I can think of (plugging it in my Macbook or wall power, charging it overnight, pressing the buttons in any combination I can think of, etc), but no go. It is not a battery problem, since the first times this happened and it actually turned on eventually, it was 80-100% charged.
I am thinking: CAN THIS BE POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF A SOFTWARE UPDATE?? It sounds so stupid.
My iPad is dead and there is no decent Apple support in Greece (which is where I live), so I can't just "take it to an Apple store", as there are no Apple stores here.
    Any help would be appreciated....

Yes, I have tried that, many times. It is frustrating, because after googling about my problem, all I can find is numerous forum threads created by people having exactly the same problem as mine, but with the difference that all of them get their iPads to boot using the 2 button trick.
It does NOT work for me, no matter how I try it (iPad plugged in computer or wall, not plugged in, iTunes open, 10 seconds, 20 seconds, 30 seconds, etc).

  • Brand new iPad dead out of box

I have just bought my hubbie an iPad 2 from Amazon for his birthday, but on taking it out of the box on the day find it is dead. Tried charging, no response. Doesn't respond to on/off button. Any hope?

    1. Charge it for at least 1 hour
    2. Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

  • IPad "Dead Zone" near Home button

In certain apps, my iPad screen has an unresponsive area about an inch or more along the edge closest to the Home button. I need to rotate the screen orientation so that controls I want to interact with ware out of this dead zone. For some of my friends experiencing this same issue, the problem mysteriously "fixed" itself one day with no update to the app nor iOS version. Most people I know using the app have never had this problem. Several people I know even have the same model and iOS version as me. I just don't get it.
Has anyone ever experienced something like this or know what could cause this? At first I thought it was a software problem, then a hardware config problem, now I'm not sure what it is.

Are you in the US?  If so, google Craigslist, find your local one and do a search for iPad repair, you ought to be able to find something there to help and at a reasonable cost.
Your AppleCare has expired on your iPad 2, so no, the Apple store cannot help you.
If you purchase your next iPad, from say ebay, you can get a TWO YEAR warranty from Square Trade, they are EXCELLENT, I have had a few items under their warranty go bad over the years, I call them, tell them what's wrong, they send me a PRE PAID SHIPPING LABEL, I send the item off, within 7 day my original purchase price is back in my Paypal balance!  I HIGHLY recommend them.

  • Mini-iPad DEAD and completely unresonsive

Hi I also have a mini ipad that is completely dead, unresponsive and cannot be restarted since it is DEAD!!!! it s just over a year old so no longer covered by gurantee, it was very expensive because i bought the 64gb, so now  i basically use is as an i-mousepad.... very depressing

    Hey estherfrommaale adumim,
Thanks for the question. I can understand how frustrating this situation may be. However, to completely isolate to a hardware issue, it would be best to follow each step in this resource:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
    Resolution
    1. If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
    2. If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
    3. If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
    4. If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
              1. If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
              2. Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
              3. If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
              4. If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
    5. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
              1. Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
              2. If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
              3. If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
    6. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • IPad dead after setting unused.

I bought a new iPad 3 and let my iPad first-generation sit unused for nine months and now it is dead and won't turn on.  When I plug it into the wall power source the Apple logo just turns on and off.  If I hold down the home button until the restore and plug into iTunes logo comes on when I go to unplug it from the power source to plug it into the PC the screen just goes black.  Once plugged into the PC with the USB cable it does nothing. It won't charge. It won't do anything when I hold the home button down or when I hold the home button and the power button together for 10 to 15 seconds. It seems there is not enough power coming from the USB port to charge the iPad.  I have let it sit plugged into the wall source for hours and it doesn't seem to take charge.  Any ideas? Do you think it is a dead battery?

Charge it for one hour and try reset iPad.
Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple Logo.

  • Ipad updating to 8.1.2 update failed iPad dead

I was updating my iPad Air to the latest OS (8.1.2) via iTunes (after taking a backup). Everything went well for the allotted 30 minutes it estimated it would take but it bummed out seemingly at that last minute and reported 'error 14'.
My iPad is now at the bootup
screen the grey one with the Apple logo and a progress bar (shoeing approx 30 % complete) - what do I do now?

    Greetings normanfromwaterlooville,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that while updating your iPad to the most recent version of iOS, the update failed and you received error 14. This error typically has to do with USB connection as described in the attached article.
Get help with iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support
Because your iPad is stuck trying to start up, I would recommend placing it in recovery mode manually and performing the update as described by the steps in the following article. If you continue to have issues, please let me know.
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
When starting up, you might see the Apple logo or a red or blue screen for a long time, or your device might restart again. Try these steps:
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.
    Cheers,
    Joe

  • IPad dead/stuck/colored pixel

I have just noticed a blue dot on my iPad's screen when i tried to use an iphone only app like Skype or DoodleJump, The iPad is on iOS 3.2.1. This pixel can only be seen when the color its on makes it visible, and when i switch an app to iPhone Size(Small) it disappears almost because it is still visible.
So should i take it in for exchange because it has been less than a month and still has apple warranty.

  • IPAD DEAD AFTER IOS7

    what to do?

  • Ipad dead just apple logo

I went to reset to factory settings on my Ipad 2 and now it just shows a apple sighn with a line under it. I pressed every single button on it, I plugged it in and my pc does not recognize ipad but my ipod works to cables and connection is good. Please help me?

Try resetting the iPad by holding down both the Sleep/wake button and the home button for a couple seconds until the screen goes black. The iPad should then restart itself and get you off that screen.

  • Ipad dead won't charge

    ipad died suddenly wont charge

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night.
