Ipad disk capacity/space decrease

After I update my ipad from 4.3.5 to 5.0, my disk capacity (total disk space) has decreased 1GB in total. anyone have solution to this??

Same boat. I was part of the beta, running it on AppleTV, iPad2, and five or six iPhone 4's. Bluetooth stack is the devil. AppleCare is your friend.
A read-only partition IOS was unable to over-write/delete at the time of the upgrade appears to be one on the list of things that could of happened. There have been a lot of CSS injection attacks, and the PDF exploit earlier on in the lower versions. There's some other stuff, but over all it's pretty secure. I found out about both those problems months before Apple released notice about them/started working on the patch - Somewhere around 4.2.6 - 4.2.8, Verizon thought I was a liar and I had to pay for 200 bucks worth of data charges, and I'm still fighting with iTunes over about 120 in charges. (Ever notice how when you type a password the last letter shows for a few seconds? They either had a VPN and were watching, or read it from device memory via keyhash or an insecure plaintext file saved with my password)
Anyways:
Look in your diagnostic logs under Settings, General, About, Diagnostics & Usage, and then Diagnostic Usage Data.
You might see a lot of logs listed with awdd_, or LatestCrash, or a bunch of other .plist related logs. See if you see anything in there that does not look normal. A lot of kernel panics/crashes is a good indicator of a bigger problem. You can also see in some of the logs a list of different libraries that were loaded, being used, threads, etc.
I honestly haven't come across a device yet that wasn't either A) Jailbroken or "Rooted" (without users knowledge, then they sandbox and/or use a library (libphide I believe it was) that hides/restricts everything from you. Turning on debugging in safari can show you when css attacks are attempted. Leaving java, cookies, bluetooth, and wifi off can help, but if someone wants in, well.. It's far from impossible.
B): MobileMe/iCloud replication is/was corrupt. I've had it replicating my push replications, downloading the same thing over and over then sending it back to the server again, eating up the "Other" Catagory (Documents and Data option in iCloud). Turning everything off to iCloud except find my iPad, deleting everything from the iPad by hand first (sounds silly, but you'd be surprised). then going to www.icloud.com, do a remote wipe, then do a manual recovery from iTunes and try reinstalling.
If that doesn't help to be honest you'll need to bring it to the AppleStore.
If want to take a screen shot of your log list of any of the ones showing crashes (probably will be several since it's rather long) i'll be glad to let you know if anything looks out of line. I've unfortunately got too much experience with problem children.
Good luck if I don't hear from you, my 64gb is showing 58.1 total capacity with 57.8 available on a "setup as new device" with no iCloud association as of yet.
I've replicated the problem manually on purpose on another device, and the "Read only" partition is/can cause this problem.

Software Update: Java for OS X 2013-002 1.0
This update, upon booting, has caused my disk space to fill up and my system freezes up. The same happens to my coworker's computer. We both watch the remaining disk space decrease and the "spinning rainbow appears" and we must restart. What do we do?

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so.
Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • I need help on my MacBook Pro. Recently I've deleted another partition of my disk from the disk utility and I found out that my disk capacity wasn't get into the normal one which is 750GB. Meanwhile I installed window 7 into the partition disk.

I need help on restoring my disk capacity back to normal. I installed window 7 into the partition disk through bootcamp and I deleted it from disk utility. After I erase the partition disk,I get my capacity to 499GB but not 750GB. Do I need to reinstall my MacBook or something to do with the restoring?

You shouldn't do it. You have to erase the Windows volume with Boot Camp Assistant, so it will restore the space onto the OS X volume and that volume will have 750 GB.
As you did it with Disk Utility, you have to resize your OS X partition manually:
    1. Open Disk Utility, select your hard disk at the top of the sidebar, and go to Partition tab.
    2. You will see a bar with Macintosh HD. You have to click it at the bottom right corner and drag it to the end of the bar, so Macintosh HD will use all the space of the hard drive, and press Apply.
    3. Close Disk Utility and your OS X partition will have 750 GB

  • WARNING: Insufficient disk partition space.

im trying to install J2EE SDK on a SunBlade 150 with Solaris 8. I get the following error message during the drivespace check:
WARNNG: Insufficient disk partition space to install the items selected
Im trying to install it in /opt/SUNWappserver/
I have installed the recommended patch cluster for Solaris 8, so all of my patches are up to date. According to df -k, I have about 4.5 gigs left on that partition, so space is not the issue. I figured it must be a bug with the release.
Does anyone know the fix for this?

sure.....heres the info, sorry for the late reply, and thanks again for all of your help:

  • Create Notification for Cluster Share Volume Disk Capacity

I am new to System Center Operations Manager but am slowly learning. We are running SCOM 2012 R2 and I want to get notifications when there are issues in our 2012 Hyper-V Cluster, specifically when the free space on our CSVs gets below
100 GBs.  I have a notification channel setup and I am receiving notifications on other issues on monitored servers as they occur.  I have imported the Cluster, Core OS and Windows Server OS management packs which have enabled me to see in Monitoring
    > Microsoft Windows Server > Performance > Cluster Share Volume Disk Capacity the Free Space for the CSVs in a graph, now what do I need to do so I can get a notification when the free space on our CSVs gets below 100 GBs or whatever other
level I want to set it at?  Thanks.

    Hi WSUAL2,
Have you created a separate Subscription for Disk alerts? Please refer below link for "How to configure notifications".
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2012/04/28/opsmgr-2012-configure-notifications.aspx
In your case, you need to select the respective Cluster Disk monitor while creating new Subscription.
Check mark this --> "Created by specific Rule or Monitor"
Before that make sure that you are getting alert in console. By seeing Alert Details, you can find the correct Rule/Monitor name.

One usually large user of storage space is photos and videos. You could import them to a computer and then delete them from the iPad: Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support
You can also go to Settings > General > Usage and click on "Manage Storage" (in the Storage section, not the iCloud section) and that will show what is using the storage and may help you decide if you want to delete some apps or something else.

  • Increasing disk capacity designated for Windows OS

    Dear Apple Community,
I have installed Windows on my Mac Book Pro, but forgot to increase the disk capacity during the process. As a result, now there is not any free space to copy data or install programs and etc.
Can please someone suggest good application or tool which will allow me to increase the capacity of Windows Drive (bootcamp) wihout reinstaliing it?
Thank you very much in advance for your kind help!

Thank you Shobhit for your reply.
Does it  mean  that 400G is not close to being enough if I want to complete all of the step according to  BP_CRM_V170_Demo_System_Export_V2.pdf, including TRex installation ?

  • Petition: Zen Micro Removable Disk memory space up to 5

Hi happy owners of Zen Micro Player!
First of all, I would like to congratulate Creative for their Zen Micro Player which is really great. But as usual, customers still want the best and try to get a product that really answers their needs. That's why I'm writting this petition to improve the Zen Micro Player options.
I simply ask Creative to update a firmware in which it would be possible to set up the Removable Disk memory space up to maximum capacity that is 5Go instead of limiting it to 2Go!
So follow me, sign my petition and ask for more, ask for more USB mass storage memory!!!
    Thank you very much!
    Hello from France to everybody!

    you mean Gb, Gigabits.
And if you have firmware 2.00.2, connecting your player to any XP system will make it show up in "My Computer" as a removable device. You can browse it using explorer and drag&drop files as you wish. This means you can use up all of it's available space for files.
But, I think you got a point. It will not be recognized on 9x systems, unless you enable the removable dri've option, and it would be nice to be able to use it as a removable HD if you needed it.
    Consider this your first signature.

cannot load ios6 on my ipad.  capacity is 28.6 gb and i have 15.3 gb available.  isn't that enough?  help please.

That is more than adequate space available. What error message do you see? Which model of iPad do you have? The iPad 1 can not be upgraded beyond iOS 5.1.1.

  • Which iPad Air capacity number (32, 64 or 128) necessary?

I'm about to buy an iPad Air, but am having a difficult time deciding the best size. I'll be taking videos (and lots of stills), with it and I have no idea how much space these might take together - the video is a real unknown for me. Can anyone expand/inform me. I'm between getting 32, 64 and 128GB. The price should not be a concern - I need facts. Thanks for any thoughts!! -Joan

  • Need to separate drive alerts with Logical Disk Free Space monitoring in SCOM 2012

I have an interesting need here to separate our SCOM alerts for Logical Disk Free space so that one alert is for OSSystem drives ONLY (C:/D:) and the other monitor alerts on all APP drives only (E:, etc). So far we have had great success using Kevin Holman's
    blog post.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2009/11/24/writing-monitors-to-target-logical-or-physical-disks.aspx
We have overrides set so that the monitors report ONLY the percentage of free space left and ignores any MB threshold. So far so good, the alert comes in that host A reports low disk space on D: at 2.345...% free or host B reports low disk space on F: at
4.567...% free space etc. Now that we have our monitors working within the Windows Server classes Logical Disk, we need to set these monitors so that one is just for C or D drives with the alert named system Logical Disk Free Space OS Disk Warn and the other
monitor just reports on E - Z drives (excluding C or D) with the alert named Logical Disk Free Space APP Disk Warn.
We are very new to SCOM so I made the rookie mistake of creating a dynamic group for all Windows Server 2003 Logical Disk class that only includes Device Name = C or D. But found out too late you cant point a monitor to a group, it has to target a class.
And using the current monitors we set up with the above blog uses the correct logical disk class, but it doesnt care what instance (device Id = value), it will report low disk space on ANY logical drive. How in the world can we separate and exclude these monitors
so that one alerts only on OS disks (C and D) and the other only alerts on app disks (E through Z)?

    Hi Kevsharp,
Quite confusing after reading your question.
So based on your requirement, What i understand is you need separate alerts for all the drives of the disk is running at low or out of space right ?
For the above just create a simple performance counter monitor and use the same counters as kevin has used in his blog.
Now Target: Use Windows server operating system (This will target all the Windows operating system agents in your SCOM. If the specified discovery MP's are installed).
Set a threshold Below 10% is critical or what ever. You will get the alerts in your console.

  • SCOM 2007 R2 : Logical Disk Free Space : Did not Alert

    Hello reader ,
I know this might be a repeated hearing for you. I have been sitting wit this issue for many hours now. I would like to understand where or what am I missing.
We have the default 'Logical Disk Space' Monitoring enabled for ALL servers in our environment. In one SQL server, non-system drive(E:) went beyond the warning(2000MB and 10%) and Critical (1000MB and 5%) Threshold. The total space allotted for the Drive
E: was 79GB. Now the total space left today morning was 698MB. But no alert was triggered.
    I checked the following
If the  health service watcher was available. - Yes it was.
If the Space really dropped to 698 - Yes it did. I verified from Performance Report.
I checked if there are any overrides - Nothing specific found.
In most of the blogs they said me to check if both criteria was successful - As shown above it is clearly matches.
Any idea why this alert was not fired ?
    S.Arun Prasath HP ARDE TEAM

Thank you Agarwal ! To Answer your Question.
    1) verify the monitor settings again.
=> I did this N number of times.
    2) ensure there are no overrides
    =>  I did this too.
    3) ensure that monitor properties are set for the correct Windows OS (same as that of the server).
=>What Do you mean here ?. I did not change any settings , it was there by default. No change was done at all.
    4) also confirm that you do not have any other overrides on the two aggregate rollup monitors for "logical disk free space". These aggregate rollup monitors are just below the unit monitor in SCOM console.
=>Those Aggregate Rollup monitors are disabled. As we already have this unit monitor Enabled. There is no link to Aggregate monitor.
If all these settings are true, then can you try this. calculate the exact value in both % and MBytes according to your server, put the same values in your monitor through an override and repro the low disk space condition,. you should get an alert.
=> Not so easy to do this in prod. So will keep you posted when this is tested. Looks like this is the only way we can confirm if the alerts are sent.
