IPad displays only in black & white

My iPad 2 just started displaying only in black & white.  Any ideas on how to fix?  I tried holding the power and home buttons for 10 seconds to reboot, but that didn't help.  Thank you for any and all ideas!

I think it all depends on how old your ipad is and what your budget is and needs are.
If yours isn';t that old and is still covered by the warranty it might be a free replacement. If it's out of warranty then the fee starts at 219 for a mini, 249 for a 2 and 299 for the newer ones....but you will get model for model...so say your iPad is an iPad 2, do you want to spend 249 for essentially a 3 year old device, or put the money towards something newer?
I think first I'd make an appointment at your local apple store and have them work on it/diagnose it and then go from there. Just make sure you make an appointment before you do so you don't waste time waiting.

  • Random Visio Stencils Displaying Only as Black and White Lines (No colour)

I'm experiencing a strange problem where some Visio stencils/shapes are displaying only as black and white outlines (i.e. - without any colour). I'm using Visio 2010 on a Samsung NC900 laptop with 8gb RAM, 1.7Ghz i7 CPU on Windows 7.
The symptoms that I'm experiencing are:
The majority of stencils display fine in the left hand stencil window but some do not.
Some stencils display the majority of shapes as black and white outlines but some in full colour.
Some shapes display fine within the stencil window but change to black and white outline when I drag them to the drawing (These are typically ones that I open independently of the drawing - i.e. - by double clicking rather than via "Search Shapes").
I've done a search on the web for this problem and have found some similar issues but none of the suggested fixes work.
One of the stencils that I experience this issue with is the Exchange 2013 Microsoft stencil.
I've updated Java and Silverlight (stab in the dark there) and my graphics driver is up to date.
It's driving me mad now so any help would be appreciated!

The remove profile worked like a charm with the greyscale images. Maybe a slight loss of contrast, but I'll hold the tiff scan in any case. I-photo would not import the image again (already in the library) but I can remove the profile on the image in my folder outside i-photo. And I think I can prevent it at import now.
Thanks! I doubt I would ever have figured that one out.

Hello - When I stream Netflix from my Ipad, I only received black and white TV reception??  Any thoughts why?  Thank you, Jackiedd

Nope. It will reset all settings. For fix errors.
Or you can try Logging out and Restart your iPad and Sign in again.

  • My iPhone only takes Black & White Photos?

Out of the blue, my iPhone will only take black & white photo's in Photo mode.  Color will appear in the Video, Square & Pano mode.   How do I fix this?  (I did not download any apps & I tried rebooting to no avail.)

    Thank you for the hint.
A filter is just a property. Deactivated it you will be shown the original.
The filter colors are not rendered into a photos file, the photo's data keeps unchanged in the camera roll.
For example: you shot 100 photos of an important event. You take a look at the camera roll and see many photos in weird colors, because you accidentally activated a filter. You can simply select this photo, deactivate the filter and get back the original.

  • GDM displays only a black screen and a cursor, before login screen

I'm using the xf86-video-ati driver for an R9 270, and GDM (v3.16.1.1) only shows a black screen with cursor. I can run TWM fine with startx, and I've got 2 displays attached via DVI.

The first is the audio codec, which is WM Std at 44.1kHz. WVP2 is the video codec and I have not heard of it. Nor seen it playback in QT assisted by Flip4mac so it may be unplayable.
There are always listed one audio codec and one video codec in that box assuming there are audio and video in the clip, e.g. AAC 256 bit (audio) and H264 Simple Profile (video) in an iPod clip.
Ooh bad news, from another source:
+"It seems that the Flip4Mac WMV Player, which should provide the missing Windows Media support for Mac users (as endorsed by Microsoft) does not support all Windows Media codecs, namely *it refuses to play content encoded with the Windows Media Video 9 Image v2 (WVP2) codec.* "+

  • Toddler playing - now display is screwy - black=white, weird colors

my husband let our 2 year old play around with our ibook today. when i got home, the display seems to be reversed - all white is displayed as black, etc.
when restarting, color is fine (it gives you a glimsp of our desktop in perfectly normal colors, then when the system starts up, it goes to this weird saturated thing. i've zapped the PRAM, but can't think of everything else. done the display preferences, etc.
    any help appreciated.

  • Display problems with Black & White Scans

I have recently scanned a bunch of old pictures into an iPhoto library and I'm having trouble with one batch of 12 scanned pictures which are black and white.
The photos seem to import fine and display both thumbnail and with double click can see larger version. The problem is when I hit the 'edit' button the picture is present for a second or so then disappears. From other threads I found I did make sure that the pictures are in RGB format ("generic" per Preview); even tried changing that with the tools in Preview (which when changed to iMac RGB did significantly reduce file size) and re-importing but issue persists. Tried also rebuilding the library from within iPhoto. Next I'll try re-scanning.
The same thing also happened with a single picture from 180 (color) pictures scanned from large-format film. I'm using an Epson Perfection 700 scanner, if that makes a difference, and the B&W scans were 'manual' in that I had to select part of a preview scan to scan at higher resolution. Any help appreciated!

Just an FYI / update to this unresolved issue. I tried re-scanning the pictures and the new scans behave normally. I think what happened was that I rotated the pictures to make them upright when examining the 'event' as a whole; then somehow the program lost the rotation information (though I don't remember a crash I did have a couple during the long process); so when I tried to go from thumbnail to full size to edit that information was gone and somehow defaulted to 'blank'. That's my best guess, anyway as the issue was resolved by re-scanning.

  • Blackmagic Card into FCP is only capturing Black/White video .. need help

Hey all, I just bought a Blackmagic Decklink SP video card. Going into FCP when digitizing video only comes in Black and White.
    Here's the setup:
OLD VHS player (RCA out) into the Blackmagic card (BNC).
We're just using the (Y-in from deck) cable that came with the breakout cables. This is plugged into the VHS deck with a BNC to RCA adapter.
Does anyone what might be causing this ?
Is there a setting that I'm missing.
    Appreciate any replies

First off...show all of your students this tutorial:
    http://library.creativecow.net/ross_shane/tapeless-workflow_fcp-7/1
It isn't long, and it shows the proper way to deal with tapeless footage in FCP.  Step 1: BACKUP THE CARD! Never import directly from the card. You need a backup first. Unless you are in a hurry, then you can import and backup later...before you erase the card.
But this camera is tricky...it shoots SD to those cards.  Standard Def.  With the world moving to High Def, I'm not sure that was the wisest purchase.  You really should be getting an HD camera.
As for the computers...do they all have the same OS version?  QT version?  FCP version?  They all should be at least at Mac OS 10.6.8, QT 7.6.6, and FCP 7.0.3.
But yeah...get a different camera.  And HD one.  And show that video in class.  Instill proper tapeless workflows while they are young!

  • BootCamp: Windows 7 installation fails display only gets black

Hello i have a late 2008 macbook pro 15 with core 2 duo 2.66GHZ and 9400M. I have a big problem: i want to install windows 7 but via bootcamp it doesnt work! Partition is done the computer starts to install windows and then the display gets black and the macbook seems to turn the power off but the fans are still spinning. I dont know how to install windows on this MacBook. When i try to install simply from the cd theres the same problem: Display gets black and macbook seems to turn off. How can i install Windows 7? is there any possibility to boot from a USB device although it has a super drive?
Thank you guys for your help
    greetings from germany
    Marc

@LenBlazer: As far as I know, CSM support is required for Windows 7 to run in UEFI mode on any machine.  CSM - compatibility services module - makes some legacy-style BIOS hooks available when in UEFI mode as I understand it.
@BAZZI: I can't find the N581 in the BIOS simulator to look at the options.  Some other similar machines don't seem to list CSM as a separate option. Hopefully CSM support is enabled (silently) when UEFI is selected but I can't verify that, unfortunately.
CSM may not be the problem in your case.  It has been on the machines I've tested Win7/UEFI on.  When it isn't enabled you get to the Windows 7 "dancing balls" splash and then it hangs.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

  • Can't open keynote presentations - iPad displays only the blue icon

Arrgh!  I'm having so many glitchy issues with keynote after upgrading to iOS8 it isn't even funny.
This morning I walk into class (I'm a teacher) and open keynote and see only the default keynote icons sitting in my subject folders.  Regard:
They can't be opened, moved or renamed.  There is no indication that they're updating (that wouldn't make any sense anyway since I've not edited the files recently).  Presentations in other folders appear to be okay.  Last night they were fine, but this morning for some reason all six files in the same folder are dead.  I opened icloud via browser and the files are there and seem to be whole, which is a relief.  At least I guess I can get them back if I need to by restoring the iPad.  But any ideas why this happened?  I had to ad-lib and improvise for my classes this morning.  It was quite an uncomfortable situation.
This being an urgent issue, I've opened a support case with apple and am awaiting contact.  But I wanted to post here as well just to see if anyone else has had this problem after upgrading to iOS8 (I upgraded about 4 weeks ago).  This is the iPad 4, I think (the latest version of the iPad prior to the iPad Air).

I'm having same/similar problem trying to open an email attachment in pages (word doc). iPad will preview the document for me, but the only button showing on the right of the top bar is "print" ("done" is on the left). how do I open for editing? Thanks.

  • Imovie video NTSC to PAL from VHS captures only in Black & White, HELP!

I'm trying to capture video via a Pinnacle Moviebox to Imovie. PAL VHS through the box is fine, no problem. As soon as I switch to NTSC setting and run an NTSC VHS tape the picture reverts to Black and White. Changed the cable, changed the VHS player, talked to Pinnacle, no advice offered. I am getting deperate! Need to transfer tapes urgently for a show-reel. All advice gratefully accepted.

Check your settings and cables: feeding composite video through a s-video cable yields B&W image.
So set the (S)VHS deck to either composite-out/s-video-out and use a corresponding composite/s-video cable and feed that into composite-in/s-video-in.
Also remember that a SCART connector can use either composite or s-video.
...there are quite many permutations that can go wrong there!
Also older PAL TVs play NTSC as B&W.

  • Apple TV all of sudden displaying only black and white

My previously normally working Apple TV is now displaying only in black and white. The TV with any other source is in color. I haven't touched any of the cables or connections, and to be safe, I double checked them all. I did a 'factory reset' and it's still in black and white. Should I presume hardware malfunction? Any other ideas.

reset and after some delay suddenly working in color again

  • Picture on TV appears black & white

I have successfully connected my Toshiba laptop to my TV using the TV out (S-Video) connection to SCART. I have now purchased a new TV which is HD LCD but upon connection the screen is black & white.
I have searched everywhere and tried any possible combinations, but obviously not the right one as I can not resolve it.
It must be something simple, as I was able to view in color in my previous TV, but now I only see black & white in my new LCD TV.
    Could anyone please advice?

    Hello Dimitros
Believe me I have pretty much experience with connecting notebook to TV and LCD TV and all you must do is to enable the right port on your TV.
I have BRAVIA LCD TV and have tested several notebooks with different cables and adapters (S-Video, chinch, SCART, HDMI) and switching to the right channel (right port entrance) I have had perfect picture. For example, on my brothers JVC LCD TV those settings are not so simple and after almost half hour we were able to enable the S-Video port.
I will just say that settings are different on each LCD TV. If you can not do anything please talk with your local dealer. For TV experts it should be no problem.
But be sure: it has nothing to do with your Toshiba notebook.

  • Printing now in black & white

I have an HP Deskjet D1520 connected to my Airport Extreme base station. It was working fine, but recently (not sure exactly when this started) color printing has failed. Now colors print only as black & white (like faint greyscale).
I connected the printer directly to my laptop and printing is fine, so it seems to be an issue with going through the Airport Extreme. Could this have been caused by a firmware update on the base station? It looks like it's running version 7.4.2.
    Any suggestions would be helpful.

I am pretty sure I have run across this issue before. Unfortunately, I cannot find the citation right now. If I remember correctly, HP considers this normal operation.
For the DeskJet D1520, try the DeskJet D1400 driver from the HPIJS package found at _http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs_.
