IPad dock mutes sounds?

Each time I put my iPad on a basic dock you can buy anywhere, the sounds are muted and the volume becomes uncontrollable. That is very annoying because alarm clock app does nothing, I can't listen to music without headphones, which I don't need.

I still don't understand why are there no answers for 4 days. No, I don't have a music dock, I have a classic Apple dock. If it is supposed to be a feature - this feature *****.

  • No sound after using Jensen iPad Dock

I used my new Jensen iPad dock with my iPhone 4S. After unplugging the iPhone it would no longer play music or allow text sounds when not connected to another device or though headphones. The volume control buttons on the side do not work properly, and the volume bar has completely disappeared from the music application. Also, when connected to a bluetooth device the options to choose music playback from the bluetooth device and iPhone speakers has changed. Instead if iPhone speakers it now says "Dock Connector". I know the iPad dock is the problem, but what is the solution?

had this a number of times to me even after using the charger it is dust or dirt in the charger plug of your phine or even in the earjack. depending on which you were using recently, use a photographes brush or i use an air ball for blowing the dust out do not blow in with your mouth the moisture corrodes things.
Essentially the dust gets pushed in there and the connectors think they are still connected, when using a dock especially if it hasnt been used for a while wipe the contact jack clean before using.

Uh .... Yes you can. You just have to understand how the whole thing works.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

  • Just purchased a new iPad and the sound works on Siri, music, videos, alarms, but on games it will not.  Is this a preference or perhaps a defective unit.

  • My iPad doesn't sound?

    My iPad doesn't sound?

After some tinkering, I have found that that was the problem.
I had the setting for the side switch to lock the rotation rather than mute.
This worked fine for locking and unlocking screen rotation but had a strange effect on mute.
Whether it was on or off, system sounds were muted.
Therefore, I changed the setting to Mute instead of Rotation Lock.  This got me back the sounds.
Once I knew system sounds worked, I then switched Rotation Lock back on and, hey presto, everything OK.
Never even noticed the Mute icon to the left of playback controls (double home and swipe right).  Perhaps that would also fix it.
Thanks for your pointer JimHdk - you were a great help.

If you lose sound for games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.

  • Hi since I put the new update on my ipad. The sound quality on the ipad is very poor and just wondering is there going to be a update to sort it out.thanks

Hi since I put the new update on my ipad. The sound quality on the ipad is gone very poor it's sound very tinny. I just wondering if there is going to be a update to sort it out. Thanks

    Hello Tollykev,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you have some audio issues with your iPad after the iOS 7 update.
I want to recommend the following troubleshooting from the article named:
iPhone: No sound or distorted sound from speaker
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5180
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, please contact Apple Support.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • Trumpet mute sounds

I have Jam Pack 4 but find no choices for mutes for the brass section. How would I go about getting the sounds for strsight, cup, and harmon mutes?
    Thank you....

I don't use too many midi instruments, but I have found that the velocity on horns produce variation of the notes. Try fiddling with the velocity. I know on the trumpet that comes with GarageBand, not from a Jam Pack, the high velocity produces a stab then the note slides down. As you lower the velocity, the slide down goes away and the note becomes more staccato. IF there's a mute sound in there, my "guess" would be it is in a lower velocity setting. I may be wrong, but that's where I'd start to look for it.

  • When I placed a video from my camera roll on my ipad to keynote on my ipad I lost sound how do you make sound work?

When i placed a video from my camera roll on my ipad to my keynote presentation on my ipad I lost sound how do I get sound?

Not sure of the answer, but does the sound disappear when it was added to the photo roll, or when you try to import it into Keynote?

  • Ipad mini no sound

i have this for the grandaughter for her to watch her kids stuff
however i suspect that a headphone plug is broken off inside the plug hole as there is no sound from it apart from 1 game which is called funny fruit.
is this possible for that to happen and 1 games work with sound.
also is this fixable at the apple shop??

if the plug was broken, you would get no sounds at all.  I do not think that is it.  (There are a handful of threads about retrieving broker headphone plugs if you search for them - but if that was the case, you would hear nothing.  This may be simpler.  is the volume on and up?
So,me games use sounds - some games use system sounds.  If you 'mute sounds' on the pad, what you are muting is the system sounds.  Check that.
If you lock system sounds in settings, but turn the volume way down, the only thing you will hear is the locked system sounds.
Check that.  But I don't think the issue is a brokern plug.

  • Will apple universal dock improve sound quality?

I use RCA plugs to hook up my ipod touch to my home stereo. Will adding an apple universal dock improve sound quality?

I've a 5th generation iPod 80 GB, the Composite AV cable, a Universal Dock, an Apple Remote, as well as a traditional headphone-jack-to-stereo-RCA cable I got from Radio Shack.
When I connect the Composite cable directly to the iPod, and then from there to my TV (no dock), videos play on the TV (with sound) and the iPod screen stays blank (as expected, since it re-directed the video to the TV).
When I connect the Composite cable to the dock first, then dock the iPod, I get USB power to the iPod, but the iPod does NOT see the TV - when I try to play video, the video displays on the iPod's screen instead. Also no sound. The Apple Remote works fine, however.
When I remove the Composite cable, connect the headphone-to-stereo-RCA to the 'line-out' part of the dock, connect that to a stereo, and dock the iPod I get sound, but of course no video. My Apple Remote still works as well of course. An interesting side note is that despite being labeled 'line out', I need to crank the volume to max for the sound to work correctly (a 'line out' should not be affected by the volume setting).
So... the problem appears to be the Dock. I'm gonna take my set-up down to an Apple store and see what they can do for me.

  • Apple style universal dock with sound?

I keep my touch on my end table along with a clock radio I'd like to ditch.
Only trouble is that the dock doesn't emit sound. Yes, there are oddles of dock stations with speakers; they're overkill. I had purchased a few of those 'lego' style speakers, which btw work fine, and I was wondering if there were a dock with the footprint of the Apple style dock yet with some sound.
Doesn't have to be concert quality, just for use a clock radio or reading; it should have 2 30pin connectors: one for ipod to sit on, the for standard usb to wall charger. Should be usable without external power (If the 'lego' speakers I mentioned had another 30pin connector for power, that'd be darn close); A one or two micro speakers built in. No remote or other frills needs. Just simple dock with sound.
    Does such a beast exist?

it should have 2 30pin connectors: one for ipod to sit on, the for standard usb to wall charger.
You want the other connector to do what? You want one connector to play into speakers and the other only to charge?
The iPod sitting in the 30 pin dock connector charges.
Don't know any that have speakers and two 30 pin connectors.
