Ipad documentation for new IT managers - Volume Purchase

Hi everyone. I've been cloning mac and PC desktops for a very long time.
I found very little documentation on deployment of iPads for IT managers. Here's my contribution. Many of you have mastered these skills, but please feel free to point out massive errors or other references

ps: the PPT was uses for our first staff training, it's cooperative learning, each person teaches one still to their pair share, then spends 2 minutes moving about the room and finding new people who desire that skill.

Thanks for posting. And you're right, there is very little documentation out there. We're all writing the book as we go.
Two things I would note...
You state, "The stop button currently has a bug and will animate even when the process is complete." It is not a bug. Apple Configurator is designed to work continuously so that you can unplug and replug new iPads anytime and the Prepare process will automatically start on the new iPad. Its very helpful when you are "imaging" a bunch of iPads not to have to click a start button each time you want to start Preparing a group of iPads.
Also, I would recommend making a backup of the first Supervised iPad as sort of a "golden master." That "golden master" could include WiFi passwords, MDM enrollment webclip, Safari bookmarks, wallpaper selection, and screen arrangements among other things. Then restore that "golden master" backup to all the other iPads. If you have iPads 2, 3, 4, etc all plugged into the cart (or other syncing device) you can apply that "golden master" backup to all of them at once, and then add additional apps and configuration profiles. It'll save you some time from doing it one by one.

You should also be able to access your docs (even without the Pages app on your iMac) by logging into iCloud.com and using the Pages for iCloud beta app via your browser.
(By the way your iPad uses iOS and not OS X)

The Javadoc for the Release Candidate is not accessible directly from the help system. You can, however, open the javadoc by using the
"Browse Javadoc" command in the Code Editor: 1. Highlight the symbol in the Code Editor (for instance, type "JUApplication" anywhere in a
.java file that you open in the Code Editor), 2. Right click and choose "Browse Javadoc". JDev will open the javadoc for the highlighted symbol
and you can use the Prev link to traverse the tree until you find the desired package. In the Production release, the Javadoc will be
accessible directly from the HelpViewer Contents pane (and thus allow searches on the Javadoc). FYI: All Javadoc appears in the /jdev/doc/ohj/
folder in your installation.

I have a similar issue...my uncle asked what I wanted as a present and I said a new ipad came out with support for Australian 4G networks and to get that...it's the 'new' ipad. Of course he went into the store and asked for the latest 'new' ipad on 28/10 and they sold him an ipad3 which retailed for the same price as an ipad4.
So when I got it I was advised by the telco that my version was not compatible. I called applecare to ask them if I could swap it being 1 week out from purchase and of course they said go back to the store it was purchased from. No surprises the store doesn't want anything to do with it, they just want to get rid of their old stock.
Now I am stuck with an ipad which I did not want (I specifically did not want the ipad3 because it did not support our local networks' 4G) and Apple have washed their hands of it.
This is terrible policy...at first I was upset Apple or the reseller won't exchange it but really I don't blame the reseller now...my grief is in the stupid Apple naming policy..."oh it's the new ipad with retina display now" .... hang on a second the ipad3 was also the 'new' ipad with retina display (maybe not by name) and was never referred to as the ipad 3rd gen...now they're saying oh it's now the ipad3 you want the ipad with retina display...guess what your stupid naming convention means half the noobs out there don't know what they're buying.
The identical naming convention has caused my uncle to purchase an obsolete product for top dollar...I have an iphone 3g, 4, 4s, touch, etc. well I think it's safe to say android is the future. I'm already finding streaming media is made impossible by Apple's DRM and policies...something my $100 andoid tablet can do easy.

I have a cover that works the on/off but have tried a cygnet cover that doesn't activate the on/off. I need more protection for travel and wanted a case instead.

How to reset ipad 2 for new owner

I am trying to rest my husbands iPad 2 for my personal use. I keep being prompted for his iTunes password, which I do not know. even restarting the machine will not alleviate the problem. How do I rest the iPad?

You need his password or to have him deactivate Find My iPhone.

HT1296 I am trying to transfer all of my music, photos, movies and apps from my IPAD to a new computer I just purchased for home use. Currently I have been using a work computer. How can I do this?

I got a new computer for home and I am trying to transfer all of my music, movies, photos and apps from my IPAD. I have been using my work computer ofr this in the past but want to change to my new home computer. I can't figure out how to do this without erasing everything from it.

This is an extract from one of our senior participant; hope he doesn't mind me reproducing it here
Syncing with new computer
1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.

Documentation for new Planning function types in 2004s

We are analyzing the impact of migrating former BPS exit planning funtions to the new BI Planning function types. In fact, we are checking the SAP procedure for reusing the BPS exits from BI Planning, although I would like to know if there is some kind of procedure or documentation (I have already read the documentation in Business planning developer guide) for a quick reimplementation in BIP.

Poor documentation for new LC4 SP1 feature

The SP1 for ES4 adds a new feature to Designer.
You're now able to add the document title to the title bar of your PDF viewer.
But the updated documentation is very poor.

1. Only the english documentation describes the feature. No word about in the german help.
2. It states to add the tag <?originalXFAVersion http://www.xfa.org/schema/xfa-template/3.3/ DisplayDocTitle:1?>to the XML source manually but not where!
3. There is no word about that the feature only affects static XFA forms! If it should work in dynamic forms, than there is currently a bug, because it doesn't work.
@the LC doc team: Please provide a more detailed description in all languages you support in Designer!

The updates to the German language guide are in progress. The localization team is working to get the ES4 SP1 content localized.

Getting broadband for new i mac g5 purchase

Hi. I am looking advice to help me make the best choice for setting up a broadband connection to go with a new i mac g5. I am currently using a pc with a dial up internet service provided by ntl. I have had issues with this company in the past so I am unsure whether to trust them with providing me with broadband. Basically all I want is a reliable service that is reasonably priced and without any compatability issues once I take delivery of my new mac. I also own a ps2 games machine and would welcome the opputunity to play net work games once I have broadband. I understand that is also possible to play music from my mac via a stereo with right set up this too would be a bonus. I have spoken to ntl but they were a bit vague only saying they would provide broadband through a cable modem. I am a bit of novice so would appreciate any easy to understand help/advice. jonswy, welcome to Discussions. Your best advice as this forum spans the globe is to talk to friends and neighbors in your area and see who they use and do they LIKE them. Cable is one form of high speed and ADSL is another (uses your phone line) but unlike dial up you can use your phone still while surfing. If you have more than one computer you will want to invest in a router. There are wireless and cabled routers and your Imac is equiped to go either way. So you would need a network card for each additonal computer. Wireless is a bit more money but is much more flexible (no cabling to run through your house). Hopefully this will give you enough info to get started, but if you have more questions just post back. Bob :~))
