IPad doesn't charge(red battery) & frozen, after it charged out during ios7 update

So decided to take a plunge and update to ios7. Big mistake that I forgot to plug it in while the battery was dying !
Now I am stuck . Read thru all the forum posts and even the apple-link http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808. No luck. This is what happens.
By default keeps showing "red - battery" anytime I switch it on.
1. Press home+power button
Switches off
2. Kept home pressed for 25 seconds, then plugged in the cable as suggested . Kept it pressed for 10 more seconds.
Instead of showing "connect to itunes" shows "red-battery".
3. Removed it - Put it on apple-provided battery charger (connected to a power outlet)
After 2 minutes shows the Apple logo. Kept it charged upwards of 2 hours before it started heating up.
I go back to Step 1 as suggested by the apple link But then I landed it continues going to step 2 i.e. never see the **** "connect to itunes" instead keeps asking me to recharged ....Am stuck in this loop - ughh !!!
Am i screwed or any way out ? Any and every help will be a pleasure. I am in India and I know the customer service out here in apple stores are extremely unhelpful and will refer to these same forums :-)
Note to self and others : For every apple update keep the power charged as suggested.

Hello there, AllThingsShiney.
You may just have to set the "auto-lock time". The following Link from the iPad User's Guide should help:
Sleep/Wake button - iPad User Guide
http://help.apple.com/ipad/7/#/iPad9940ef67
Specifically:
Set the auto-lock time. Go to Settings > General > Auto-Lock.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

How many hours does a brand new battery last after fully charged. I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro.

clintonfrombirmingham is right, there is no way to exactly tell. But from personal experience, a new battery on a 2008 will last for about 2 1/2 hours with a higher screen brightness and doing something taxing to the battery (like gaming or running lots of 3D programs). But if you're just listening to music with the brightness all the way down, and no programs running, you could get up to 12 hours. So for average use, it should last you a whole business day (assuming you don't use it more than 30% 0f the time). Hope this kind of gives you more of an idea of what to expect:)

My iMac is frozen on a blue screen during an update of software for snow leopard. What do I do?  Should I turn off the computer?

do a hard shutdown of the mac (holding down the power button until it shuts off) then do an SMC reset, the following article tells how to do this:

after doing this reset and restarting the mac, try again to install the update.

thanks for the reply.  guess i'll have to do that.  apple, not really happy with what you've done with this latest update.  have not been able to enjoy my music in my car since the update.  most of us dont mind changes that progress timely, but this was much more than just a progression.  this was a complete change.  and not a good one, at all.  thanks to the two people that replied.  appreciate it.

  • Red battery showing but not charging and button not working

My daughters iphone 3G is showing a red battery when plugged in but not charging, it always shows 20%.  Also the button isn't working, so I can't reboot.  I have plugged it into the PC and it doesn't recognise the device?? what is going on with this?

same problem here, on the Black MacBook, purchased in April 2008.
0% icon and the green lid.
I tried restarting, reseting etc ... without any success.

  • IPad Mini takes hours to turn on after full charge

This only happens after I charge it to 100%. I charge it when I go to bed so I cannot watch it and stop the charging at 99%, or I would. I have to unplug it then let it sit anywhere from 2 to 4 hours before it will power on. This has been going on for about 3 months. I bought this over a year ago and it has always worked perfect for me. I cannot afford to have it repaired so that's out. What should I do to fix this pain in my butt issue? Is anyone else having this problem also?

  • Battery span after full charge?

After fully charged, i did not use my shuffle but after 3 days, battery is empty again. Is this normal?

    Hello elvin89,
I always want to get the most out of the battery life on my iPod shuffle.  I found an article with a few tips on extending your battery life.  One tip that stood out to me is if the shuffle is turned on, even when not connected to headphones, it can use up the battery power:
    Turn iPod shuffle off
When you're not using iPod shuffle, turn it off instead of pausing. This will keep iPod shuffle from accidentally waking from sleep and playing songs if its buttons are pressed while in a pocket or bag.
I also recommend reviewing the full article:

  • How fast does the battery deteriorate after 300 charges?

I know apple says that after 300 charges, the batter should still be around 80% health. Mines around 325 charges and is at 94% health, so that means its really good for a 23 month old battery. I'm just wondering how much longer can this hold out for and what's the maximum lifespan for the battery? I pretty much use it every day because of school and usually run it down to about 30%-50% charge before i plug it back in and i have to use it until its completely dead about once every week or so.

    Welcome to the discussions,
See this article about battery life in general and how to improve it: http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html

  • Battery lifetime after re-charge

    Hi to everyone,
i want to wish to everyone a good day. One more time i would like to ask your
help with a battery problem i am having. I am having a very strange behavior
with my iPhone's battery. I have fully re-charged my phone's battery and
after approximately 12 hours the battery indicator is showing 88% !
In these hours i have used my device only for 1 minute for a quick phone call.
Before charging it i am always wait until my battery lever is at 2% in which
my device automatically shuts down by itself. I have always "3G" setting on
and at my area the "3G" reception is not always achieved. Is this battery
    consumption sounds logical ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Panagiotis.

You may not want to hear this, but you definitely have a battery that's on it's way to going "bad". Based on your comments about "using it all the way down to 2%", I suspect you damaged the battery at some point. These types of batts (LiOn) don't like to be drained; they don't want to be charged all the time either, but they don't mind being "topped off" now and then.

  • Upgraded to iOS 5 on my iphone 3gs now phone service doesn't work and battery does not hold charge. Can someone help me?

I upgraded to iOS 5 on my iphone 3gs now phone service (AT&T) constanly goes in and out and battery does not hold charge. Can someone help me?

It appears to be a bug in iOS5.  I have the same problem on the 3Gs and my new 4S.
    I eagerly await a patch......

  • Today I charged my iPhone then after the charge I can't turn it on unless I plug it on any kind of power device. It tells me to plug onto iTunes but after I do so it kept rebooting.

My iPhone is a 3GS and is iOS 5.0.1 never JBed. After I charged at school it just crashed and unable to be turned on. I can't turn it on unless it's plug onto any power source. Even I turned it on it stays at a screen says "iPhone" and after I swiped the screen it tells me to plug onto iTunes. But after I plugged it on iTunes it just kept rebooting and not syncing or whatever. My computer and iTunes can't detect it also.

If your iPhone suddenly freezes or is just not working right, you can do a hard reset by following these simple instructions:
Press and hold the Home button (big circle below the screen) and the Sleep/Wake button (on top of the iPhone) simultaneously.
Hold both buttons until the iPhone shuts off and begins to restart.

  • Laptop won't start after cutting out during an update

    Dear All,
My laptop cut out during a software update (I think the battery died, although the screen readout said I had plenty of life left) and since then it won't start up. When I turn it on it just goes to the grey screen with the apple logo and the little circular symbol showing that it's thinking about something, the one that normally comes up before the sign-in box appears.
I have attempted to start from my OS X installer disc 1, but after a lot of noisey chugging, nothing further happened (except that my disc is now stuck in the drive).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hannah.singh: Both the Repair Disk routine in Disk Utility and the fsck routine that you've now run check the structure of the file system on your hard drive. In essence, they're checking to see that every item listed in the disk's invisible directory is actually where the directory says it is. Neither utility can or will alert you if a necessary file has gone missing (because, for example, an updater has deleted it and not replaced it with a new version), or if an incomplete update has left incompatible system files in place that will prevent the computer from starting up, or keep some other essential operation from being performed. These utilities aren't designed to discover whether there is actually a bootable operating system in place; they only tell you whether the disk directory matches the actual contents of the disk, and if not, whether they've been able to patch it so the two do match.
So if you were applying an update that altered any system files before it was interrupted, it's possible that the operating system on your computer is now unusable even though the directory is in fine shape and all the hardware checks out too.
Under the circumstances, I recommend starting up from your latest OS X installer CD/DVD and performing an Archive & Install.

iPad will not remember my client card number for online banking since ios7 update

Generally speaking, your bank would use a cookie to store your card number (bad) or to associate your browser with its list of saved card numbers (less bad). If you have cookies cleared after each session, then you may be blocking this feature.
To check your cookie handling for your bank's site, when you are on the site, right-click the page and choose View Page Info, then Permissions. Under "Set Cookies" most likely the "Use Default" checkbox is checked. The actual setting will appear in gray.
If the actual setting is not Allow, then uncheck "Use Default" and check "Allow." This will take effect the next time you start Firefox or if you clear the site's cookies on the Security tab (View Cookies button) and then revisit the site.
If the actual setting already is Allow, then some other feature (e.g., clearing history when you exit) or program (e.g., a security suite) is clearing the cookie.

  • New Ipad continues to draw down battery even after cover is closed. Is this normal?

Even though I close the cover and can hear the magnetic switch shut off the Ipad, it continues to draw down my battery, is this normal?
    Screen does go blank

I've read different opinions (and personal stories) about whether the battery drains in sleep mode.  All I know is that mine does not seem to drain.  I was just noticing this last night.  Before I went to bed my battery meter read 97%.  I simply closed the smart cover  to put it in sleep mode (I heard the click).  When I opened the cover this morning it was still at 97%.  I used it for about 15 minutes and only then did it drop to 96%. I did not turn off any wifi or location settings.
I should disclose that my battery meter was acting weird the other day. After a full charge, it was stuck on 100% during a few hours of light use (internet, email, kindle) before dropping again.  Maybe my meter is just screwed up, but it seemed to be back to normal again and draining at a normal rate prior to my observation about it not draining at all during sleep mode.

  • IPad Air won't turn on even after fully charging overnight and won't reset using the power and home button.

I have tried charging the ipad over night and no matter what I do it won't turn on. I did try plugging it into my computer and itunes recognized it once, but I wasn't able to restore it. Please help. It's only 3 months past warranty.

If you have owned the device, as in purchased from Apple, less than a year then there will be no charge to repair, or most likely, replace the device. If you have had the device more than a year you will be charged an out of warranty cost for replacement ($219 I think) and that is much cheaper than a new device. If you have Applecare+ then you have an additional year of coverage and the replacement will be $49 or $79 depending on when you got the Applecare.
