IPad doesn't charge via third party/unofficial USB cables

This is probably said elsewhere but I've realised that my pad will NOT charge via some third party USB cables. It will transfer data and sync with iTunes but will not give any charge either via USB to computer (which is normal as the output generally isn't powerful enough on a laptop) NOR will it charge when the USB is used with the official Apple plug.   I need to use the official USB leads with the plug for it to charge.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

I have 3 Dell laptops at home and I am unable to connect my iPad 1 to any of them using the USB cable.  If I connect the iPad to any Apple computer using the same USB cable, it works perfectly.  I have installed the latest versions of iTunes and iOS, but still no luck. Apple Store Geniuses helped me determine that it wasn't my iPad causing the problem, but were less helpful when it came to dealing with non-Apple devices.
    Options?

Does the OS see the iPad at all? In other words does it show up in either the My Computer or Device Manager?
I've had problems in the past where I had to modify the registry to get my son's iPod to sync with a particular HP laptop.
If it doesn't show up at all have your tried using an external hub (with or without power)?

I'm using an iPad camera connection kit and a MIDI to USB cable to interface a MIDI keyboard with GarageBand. It works flawlessly... until I use the sustain pedal. Once the pedal is depressed while playing a given note, from then on, the pedal itself plays the note every time it is depressed. It's not the keyboard or the pedal. I've tried others. That leaves the app or the connection between the iPad and the keyboard. I find it hard to believe I'm the only person who is experiencing this problem. Anyone have a fix?

Yes.  There are a ton of write-ups on how to do the connections.   I connect my m-audio Keystation 61 es through the CCK to my iPad and use GarageBand to control it.  Some keyboards require a powered USB hub to make things work.  I use a belkin 4 port hub in my own setup.   Here is a link to tested / verified keyboards that work via the CCK:  http://iosmidi.com/devices/

  • How can I set up printing to queues on a Windows 2008 server directly from the iPad apps and not from third-party applications without using AppleTalk or Bonjour?

We have a Windows 2003/2008 server-based network with a dedicated print server which we would like to be able to print to over Wi-Fi.  How can I set up the printers on the iPad without downloading a third party application such as Print Central or Print N Share?  I want to just click the arrow and "Print" then choose the printer, which doesnt show up.  I want to be able to use the existing TCP/IP-based network that we have to reach these queues, not having to install Bonjour or AppleTalk to reach them.
    Thanks,
    KMQ7

This would really be the "Holy Grail"   right now.  I think this a feature that every large organization requires. AirPrint works on a small scale, but is not really an enterprise class application.  In addition it uses the Bonjour discovery process which is difficult in a large LAN WAN environment.  For those that would remind me, I am aware of the enhancement link

  • "Late" Freight charges in third-party-sale

    Hello gurus,
I have got a question concerning a rather unusual (in my view) third-party deal:
As usual, there are three parties involved: Our company, our customer and our vendor. Our vendor charges varying freight charges depending on the ordered materials, quantities and several other factors. The problem is, that we do not always know the exact freight charges in advance and so we do not know what to charge our customers.
    Example:
Our customer orders materials for 100$ (without freight charges). We order those materials to be delivered by our vendor. After the goods have arrived, our vendor invoices 20$ freight charge. Now we would like to charge those 20$ to our customer, but unfortunately, there is no condition for them in the SD order.
I know, it is unusual to do this, but this is how this business works, unfortunately.
Does anyone have an idea how to realize this? Is there any way to u201Ccopyu201D the 20$ from the incoming MM invoice into the SD order or at least the outgoing SD invoice?
The only idea I had up to now was to maintain SD condition records for the freight charges so that we could at least charge an approximate freight charge in our customer invoice. Of course, it would be quite some work to always keep those condition records up to date. Maybe there is a way to create them from the MM condition records?
    Thanks in advance
    Alicia

    Hi,
You can even automate the process.
Ask the freight vendor to send the feight rate and sale order details in a flat file format. This can be dropped into an FTP server.
Discuss with your basis team to develop a UNIX script or some other methods to pull the file from FTP server and put into SAP system folders.
An ABAP program can be developed to read the flat file in the SAP system folder and further updates the sales orders with the frieght rates (Header level freight condition type). You can combine the above steps as a background job and run at frequent intervals say for every 2hours.
As proposed earlier, when the user creates the 3rd party sales order, they can apply the billing block (You can make it as default also for this order type). When the background job runs, after applying the frieght rate value on the freight rate condition type at header level, the same program can remove the billing block.
We are running this scenario with our frieght vendors, but at delivery document level (not for 3rd party orders). It is working good.
    Regards

Since the onboard ethernet card on my PowerMac G5 has stopped working reliably, I purchased a Sonnet Presto Gigabit PCIe card. I've read that by default it's not possible to netboot from any ethernet other than the onboard adapters, but is there any way to netboot via a third party card, through some Open Firmware extension, or has anyone tried netbooting with the Sonnet card? (I haven't yet received it, it will be coming in a few days).

Eventually solved by copying Ethernet ip settings when it was hardwired to router into the PCI Slot 3 settings where the card is housed

  • Connecting to Cloud Databases via Third Party

    Hello,
Is it possible to connect to a Cloud Database via a third party database application....like Navicat?
    Thank you
    Brad

    Hi Brad -
The only way to access data and logic in an Oracle Database Cloud Service is through an Application Express application running in the Service, a Java application running in the Java Cloud Service, or with RESTful Web Services. If any application can fit into one of these categories, they can use the Service.
    Hope this helps.

  • If my iPad doesn't charge when connected to my computer, could that affect my file sharing?

I am trying to share a file via iTunes on my computer to an App on my iPad and keep getting an error. The file is working from other computers. The only thing I noticed is my iPad is not charging when plugged into the computer. Since this is a USB power issue, could that have something to do with why my file won'tsync properly to my iPad?
    Thanks.

When you say that your iPad is not charging, are you seeing "Not Charging" in either the status bar (unlocked) or in the middle of the screen (locked)?
If so, this is indicative of the fact that your computer's USB ports do not emit enough wattage to charge the device while it is in use. (i.e. out of sleep, with screen on)
Put the iPad to sleep (with the Sleep/Wake button) and let it be, and over time without any use, it should charge.
However, as Philly Phan said, provided that the device's battery still contained an adequate charge, it should not affect the file sync.

  • IPad doesn't charge at ALL

Hey! I only used my iPad once and now It just doesn't charge at all! I plugged in to the wall fora a day and it never turned on! Then I plugged it again for 24 hours and it only charged to the 20 %. I don't know why this is happening! Plus I bought a Mac a year ago and it had problems too just two months after I bought it! I don't know what is happening with Apple products or if it's only my bad luck.

There is either a problem with the power adaptor or with your iPad.
Do you live near an Apple Store?
If so, make an appointment and take your iPad and the power adaptor with you. All package contents are included with the iPad's warranty.

  • Printing from iPad - Why do I need third party app to print to a local network printer??

Why do I need to pay for a third party app to print to ALL local network printer?? I understand that only some printers are compatable with iPads, but yet application like "iCanPrint" allow me to print just fine to a printer connected to my network. Why can't Apple include this as one of its features? Technology is apparently there?

For that, and the many other apps to work, you need to be running a pc or Mac on the network.  The answer is drivers.  Every printer in the world needs a driver.  There simply is not enough space on a pad to load every possible printer driver that might be in play.  in the pc world, the operating system comes preloaded with hundreds of common drivers, and when you buy and install a new printer, you download the new drivers for that new printer.
That all just will not work on a pad or phone.  So apple flipped the issue upside down, and said...'here is the printer driver we will make standard for its devices.  We call it AirPrint.  Include this in your printer'.    A lot of manufacturers have, and more printers are enabled each month.
So your choice is pretty basic.  You can buy an AirPrint enabled printer and print directly to it, or buy a non AirPrint printer, or use the one you have, and rely on your pc to act as the translation device to manage the print job.
