IPad doesn't recognize wifi connection

I am connected to my home wifi but ipad2 says not connected to the internet. If I switch to cellular data I can connect. I tried resetting my network settings but no change.

You may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPad a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the "i" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

  • Itunes button on iPhone doesn't recognize wifi connection

I recently syncronized my iPhone to add the iTunes button. Button appeared - all seemed fine. Went to a hot spot and got a pop up message asking if I wanted to connect to that wifi. I answered yes (settings showed that I was connected). But when I hit the purple itunes button, it says "cannot connect to iTunes store, must connect to a wifi network".

I have found the same problem with connecting to the iTunes store with an ACTIVE Wi-Fi connection. Everyone keeps responding in the same way. "Make sure you have a Wi-fi connection ..etc etc..blah blah blah.
Does everybody on here think that everyone else is stupid?
While giving these very complex and technical solutions to so many different Wi-Fi problems no one..and I mean NO ONE seems to be able to figure out this seemingly simple issue. BTW..when connected to my Airport(which is Wi-Fi) the itunes store connects with no problems.
    I commiserate with you!!!!
Also weak signal?...Nope. Tried inside close to the Wi-Fi router as well. And please. don't insult me with these dumb comments of.."what city are you in? Because the iTunes Starbucks connection is not everywhere yet" Sheesh!!!! Get a grip!!!!! IT'S WiFi PEOPLE!!!!!!!

  • IPad (3rd gen) losing wifi connection during large downloads

    Hi,
I am having a problem with my iPad 3rd generation (wifi only, 64GB) running iOS 6.1.3.
When I download large files (e.g. via the iTunes app, the BBC iPlayer app, The Economist app), my iPad almost always loses wifi connection a minute or two into the download, and often stays disconnected until I go into Settings > Wifi and select my home network again. If I resume the download in relevant application, the same issue will typically recur within a minute or two.
I am not having any other problems with this iPad - general internet browsing / streaming of video has been fine. I originally thought the issue was only with the BBC iPlayer app, but sadly have found it to be more widespread.
I have tried to "forget this network", resetting network settings, restoring my entire iPad (twice), and resetting all settings - none of these have stopped the issue. Interestingly, during the first restore of the iPad I received ugly BIOS-esque messages relating to AppleBCMWLANCore, which disappeared after a hard reboot (power + home buttons together), and did not recur on the 2nd restore.
Anyone else experiencing something similar? Any suggestions to fix this?
    Cheers,
    James

Locate the iPad as close as possible  to your router.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • IPad (3rd gen) losing wifi connection during BBC iPlayer downloads

    Hi,
I am having a strange, app-specific problem with my iPad 3rd generation (wifi only, 64GB) running iOS 6.1.3.
When I use the BBC iPlayer app (version 2.0.5.33) to download a TV show to watch offline, my iPad almost always loses wifi connection a minute or two into the download, and it stays disconnected until I go into Settings > Wifi and select my home network again. If I resume the download in iPlayer, the same issue will typically recur within a minute or two.
I am not having any other connectivity problems with this iPad, and other sizeable downloads (e.g. from iTunes, from the App Store etc) are not having the same issue. Similarly, I can stream live BBC iPlayer content without issue - it is just the iPlayer downloads that seem to create this condition (which then effects the whole iPad / all other running apps).
I have tried to "forget this network", resetting network settings and restoring my entire iPad - none of these have stopped the issue. Interestingly, during restore of the iPad I received ugly BIOS-esque messages relating to AppleBCMWLANCore, which have disappeared after a hard reboot (power + home buttons together) - does this indicate a problem with the iPad hardware itself?
Anyone else experiencing something similar? Any suggestions to fix this? Or am I dependent on the BBC updating the app?
    Cheers,
    James

    Hey James,
I would try out standard third party application troubleshooting and see if that resolves the Wi-Fi issue. :
    1. Update your device software
    2. Check for app updates
    3. Install another app from the App Store
    4. Restart the application
    5. Restart your device
    6. Reinstall the affected application
For more info on each step, check out the full article:
iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1702
If none of those steps work, then you would want to contact the developer of the application for further assistance.
    Regards,
    David

  • HT4356 iPad doesn't recognize ePrinter.

My iPad doesn't recognize my printer.  It did until I upgraded the printer (HP 5510) to recognize Windows8 on my computer.  Any suggestions?

    Good Morning sylvia261,
The resource below explains all of the steps to take when you change your Apple ID.  You may need to restart your iPad; sign out of iCloud and iTunes in the Settings app and then sign in with your revised Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202667
    Change your Apple ID
Learn how to change the email address that you use as your Apple ID.
In most cases, your Apple ID is also the primary email address of your Apple ID account. You can change your Apple ID to any other email address you control, as long as it's not already in use as an Apple ID. If your email address ends with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com, it's already an Apple ID.
Use these steps to reset your Apple ID:
Sign out of iCloud, the iTunes Store, App Store, FaceTime, Find My Friends, Find My iPhone, and iMessage on each device that uses your current Apple ID for these services.
    Go to My Apple ID.
Select Manage your Apple ID and sign in. Forgot your password?
Select Edit next to Apple ID and Primary Email Address.
Enter the email address that you want to use as your Apple ID, then select Save Changes. Apple will send a verification email to that address.
Open the email from Apple, then click Verify Now. Didn't receive the email?
When the My Apple ID page opens, sign in with your new Apple ID email address and password. When you see a message that verification is complete, you can start using your updated Apple ID.
Update the features and services that you use with Apple ID, so that each one is using your updated Apple ID.
If you need to change the Apple ID that's signed in to your iOS device, use these steps to sign out, then back in with a different Apple ID.

Running 10.6.8 on Intel dual core iMac, it keeps on losing internet connection. Webpages get stuck after a minute or so. If I check the internet connection via diagnostics it seems to work just fine. Others, like the iPad use the same wifi connection and never fail. What can I do?

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • Why does my iPad often lose the Wifi connection?

    Hello all -
Often when I am using my iPad at home (which is where i use it 95% of time), the WiFi connection will simply disappear - sometimes every 2 minutes of so.  Sometimes, when I pull up the "Utility" screen from the bottom (sorry, don't know the correct name), and then unclick the WiFi connection, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on - the connection comes back.  But that probably only works 10-30% of the time.
The way I can always make it come back is to go to the Settings app, click on Wifi, where it shows no connection.  Then if I turn on WiFi, after a couple of seconds I see my network appear under the "Choose a Network..." section, and then a few seconds later, see it appear in the top section.
Does anybody know why this might be happening and what I can do to fix it?
    Thanks.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • I can't connect my camera to my Mac tower - final cut doesn't recognize the connection.

I have a Canon AH X1 video camera which uses the older 6 pin firewire - I have a 6 pin to 9 pin adapter, but when I connect the camera and go to Capture and Log, it doesn't recognize the camera is connected.  Even when I click NOW, it does nothing.  My camera output settings have been set by the manual for this type of connection, HD and downgrade OFF, or something like that (don't have the camera in front of me this moment).  Any ideas?
    Thank you!

I am running 6 pin firewire using a 9 pin adapter.  I have one internal hard drive - 999GB, formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) - 914G are free.
Camera Settings - Playback STD - Comp out 1080i/480i
    HD Down Conversion - OFF

  • IPad doesn't recognize MacBook on network

Good morning. I use my iPad through Airport as a Verizon Wireless hotspot to use my MacBook Pro to work online.  This morning, howver, the iPad doesn't show up in the network list (although other, unassociated networks do) even when it's plugged directly into the MacBook with the USB cord. I have been able to connect with Bluetooth, but I really prefer using the Airport because the iPad drains the battery so rapidly unless it's plugged into an a/c outlet. (Story for another day.)
I've rebooted everything several times, but no joy.
I have a support request into Verizon as well, but I get into a panic when I can't work, and the iPad's battery is draining rapidly.
    Suggestions?

The Verizon Wireless rep replied quickly and connected me on a phone conference with their Apple staff. I was embarrassed that I hadn't figured this out for myself, not having spent enough time exploring the iPad and not being brave enough to push a "start from scratch" button. It required only going to "reset" under "General" and resetting network settings. Presto.

I have no issues with network connectivity with my Mini 3 on high speed networks at home or work.  In particular, I can run the Ookla Speedtest app just fine.  I can download/update apps fine.  However, if I connect to the Hotspot (which has much lower bandwidth), I have problems under heavy network load, such as those.  The Mini 3 will drop the connection, thus messing up what I was trying to do, then connect again.  If I do the same experiment with my wife's Mini 3 (mine is 64GB, hers is 32GB), all conditions the same (OS, Hotspot, apps), her Mini 3 does not drop the connection, and everything works fine.
I have done the obvious things, but the connection still gets dropped intermittantly:
    force-exit all apps
    restart the Mini 3
update to iOS 8.2 (the problem was present in earlier iOS 8 versions, too)
I have concluded that my Mini 3 must have a hardware problem with the WiFi.  Are there other possiblities?  What are the odds Apple will fix the problem (which probably requires a new Mini 3) if I'm right?

    Thanks for responding.
I don't suspect the Sierra.  It worked fine with my wife's Mini 3, my laptop, my iPod, my older iPad.  During my testing I used only one device at a time.  The problem with my Mini 3 persists after resetting the Mini 3.  I have not tried backup/restore.
My Mini 3 works fine through my home router, at least to the extent that the WiFi connection does not drop.
I agree that there's probably no widespread problem with Mini 3 WiFi.  However, given the set of things that work and don't work, particularly that my wife's Mini 3 has no problem but mine does, the only remaining variable (IMO) is the WiFi support in my Mini 3.  And given that my wife's identical (other than memory size) Mini 3 has no problem, it could only be the WiFi hardware in my specific Mini 3.
It remains a mystery to me what it is about the interaction between my Mini 3 and the hotspot that causes the WiFi connection to drop.

Do you have it connected to a PC via USB?  That turns off the WiFi radio.
