Ipad email over quota

My wife's iPad .me account rejects emails with the reason "Over quota." It is a mail only account, if that makes a difference. I have nevevr encountered this message.

The number of email messages doesn't matter. The size of all messages with attachments does matter.

  • Friend's email "over quota"?

I have an internet friend who uses an iCloud email, and recently my emails have been failing to deliver for the reason of "over quota." I think that means that her email is full or something similar. I can't contact her in any other way. Does iCloud give a notification that the email is full either on phone or computer (she doesn't seem to know what's going on and she uses her phone), and is there any other way to somehow "tell" her or improve the situation at all? I'm starting to get worried.

She will receive and email saying her iCloud storage is almost full.
Then when it is full she will receive and email saying her iCloud storage is full.
    This happened to me yesterday.
I got the first email, I went to iCloud and deleted all the notes, and all emails pre-2014...
Whereupon I received the second email.
So then iCloud decided it would not let me empty the trash... where all the deleted emails had gone... "send report to apple?" yeah, go on then...
Later I tried again... same happened...
Upgraded my storage from 5 to 15Gb... hey presto, emptying trash works again! Oh but hang on, it now only says I have 8.1Gb left... there should be 10Gb at least, plus the amount 7 years of emails takes up?... hmmm... something is fishy... I'll let you know...
Oh and as for System Preferences / iCloud / it's not actually available if you are using 10.6.8 but I'm old school like that.

  • I can't receive emails because I am over quota

I reached my 5 GB quota and so received an email telling me so.  I disabled the iCloud backup of my mails.  I can't delete any more from iCloud and the problem is I am not receiving any new emails!  I don't understand why?  Why would it not allow me to receive emails (even if my "backup" is over quota?).
    Thanks.

    Hi janfromlutterworth,
The article linked below details a number of troubleshooting steps that can help restore functionality to the Mail app on your iPad.

  • Senders to my Email get "Over Quota" message

Suspect "over quota" message senders are getting is a function of icloud backup.  How to get email working again? (Receiving; sending is working just fine).
Have already deleted all but necessary messages, emptied trash, restarted ....  thanks for help!  KKRP

It is a combination of how much email is avaiable on the server in all server stored mailboxes along with all other data stored with iCloud including your backup.
With an IMAP account, you can store sent messages on the server as well as drafts and trash.

Our CEO has an iPhone and an iPad. Everytime he is at the Baltimore Washington Airport (BWI) he is unable to send or recieve email over 4G or wifi. Everything else seems to work just fine over wifi or 4G LTE. Has anyone ever seen anything similar? is this malware?
Both devices are on Verizons 4G LTE network. Both devices do have some of the same APPS installed. Can this be a case of him connecting to a rogue wifi network of a hacker that may have installed malicious code on his devices when he connected? That would explain why only his devices have the same exact issue only at BWI airport.

Something similar I've experienced. I was once having to use a AT&T hotspot and the iPad simply refused to access my mail via the mail app. But if I used safari I could get it.  So the internet was working, but my supposition is that something with the hotspot's firewall messes with mail exchange.
next time your boss is at BWI, do you guys have a web interface? (for example if I wanted to access my work mail I could get them to set it up via the mail app and exchange, or I could go to a certain web address and access my mail that way via safari)
He could try using safari and the web interface if you have it.
If it's something in the hotspot's firewall I doubt it's anything that can be changed.

  • HT4864 I upgraded my iCloud capacity AFTER I already had my email shut down.  Now all inbound email rejects and senders get a notice that my email is "over quota."  Apple support requires a serial number, but this is about iCloud and I do not have a Mac.

I upgraded my storage AFTER I received an email that my iCloud email will be shut off until I was no longer over capacity.  I can now send emails, but when anyone sends me an email it rejects and they receive a message that I am "over quota."

If you have an iCloud account it must have been created on a Mac or iOS device.  Provide the serial number of that device in order to reach Apple support.

  • HT204053 My wife just got this iPad mini and I want to copy the address book on my iPad 2 over to the mini. Can I use iCloud to do this?

My wife just got this iPad mini and I want to copy the address book on my iPad 2 over to the mini. Can I use iCloud to do this and what are the steps. The 2 devices have different Apple IDs.

Download the "My Contacts Backup" app from App Store to your iPad 2. Make a backup and send it by email to your wife's address. Open this email from iPad mini and tap the attachment to import the contacts into iPad mini Contacts app.

  • I am being told I am 'over quota' and this software will not open my trash. I have been trying to copy things off my inboxes to trash and then to the archives.

I cannot open my trash, it says it is now 'over quota'. I cannot even received emails if they are sent there!
I have been trying to make my settings higher in the 'advanced' menu to no avail.
I have been trying to move emails out of my INBOX to the trash and then to Archive subfolders but evidently EVERYTHING falls under this 'quota'. What the hell can I do? This is ridiculous, obscure and a terrible and extremely user-unfriendly software.

What is the exact error message?
Where is the message from, your email provider, or Thunderbird?
What is your account type, POP or IMAP?

  • Can't get email over wifi at home, but can at work.

Okay, I think this is a problem with settings on my time capsule, but I can't figure out what. On my iPhone 5 and wife's iPad I can get email over the cellular network and over wifi at work. I can't get email over wifi at home, get a can't connect to server error. Also had a friend, who uses the same ISP, try with his android phone - same error, but works over wifi at his house. Since I can get email over cellular and wifi at work, I'm fairly confident that I have the server settings correct. Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Rob

Was facing a similar issue with my friend's iPad (Latest one). Forcing the DNS Server to 8.8.8.8 (I think Google's DNS servers) fixes this issue. I had faced something similar on my iMac a long time back. Something a little strange about how Apple products do a DNS lookup? Not sure if it is an issue with the response time of the DNS servers as well..
In any case, the good news was changing it to 8.8.8.8 worked.. Luckily the iPad's network configuration tool allows you to navigate to the pane where you can see the DHCP supplied IP addresses and just go to the DNS field, delete what was present there and force it to this address.
The difficulty in coming to this conclusion was the fact that the browser works fine for all the sites we had tried. It is mostly the apps that had trouble, and the App store also was inconsistent in reporting details..

  • IPad email problems on 3G

I have an iPad which up until Wednesday this week has picked up my talktalk emails via Orange 3G network without any problems.
On Wednesday this stopped working with an error message that "mail.talktalk.net was not responding” and to check the email settings.  If I connect the iPad via a wifi connection I can get my emails without any problem, so the iPad email settings are correct and it worked fine on 3G until Wednesday.
I have spent hours on the phone with Orange and with Apple proving the iPad is OK and Orange data connection is OK.  I have phoned talktalk and all I get is it’s not a talktalk problem and cannot get anyone to help.
Am I the only one with this problem or are there others out there with iPhones and iPads having the same problem?  It is driving me mad……………..

Web browser and all apps working fine over 3g - the problem is only with mail send and recieve.
The message I get is "mail server mail.xxxxxxxxxxxx.com" is not responding. Verifyy that you have entered corerct account settings info in mail settings"
I use port 143 with SSL on for incoming
I use port 25 with SSL off for outgoing
Same settings as with my iPhone mail app which works fine over 3g.
    Thanks

  • Over quota?

I attempted to send a friend an email with a 973kb attachment today and shortly after, I received a message from postmaster @ mac.com telling me the message could not be delivered. The reason: Over quota. Is that on my end or on the recipient's end? Does that mean I can't send any more email from my dot mac account? I've never gotten this message before.

    Hello Fred.
Are you aware that you can adjust the amount of server storage space allocated between email and your iDisk storage with your .Mac account and if so, how must storage space do you have allocated to email only?
Are you storing sent messages on the server or locally on the hard drive with the Mail application which is available under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for your .Mac account preferences?
This error message sounds like it came from the recipient's incoming mail server so does this recipient have a .Mac account - an @mac.com email address?
If not, the problem is on your end.

  • Mailbox : Over Quota

    Hi
I've recently noticed that i'm not receiving any emails to my @mac.com address...
When i send a message from another mail account i received the following message :
    To: Stuart Furniss @mac.com
    Subject: RE: test
Your message cannot be delivered to the following recipients:
    Recipient address: @mac.com
    Reason: Over quota
I've removed all the emails from my inbox in Mail to a folder under "On my Mac" but still receive this error message when i send an email from one of my other mail accounts..
Any idea what is going on and how i resolve it ??

  • IPad email has been hacked

My iPad email seems to have been hacked. I have searched for other cases where this has happened, but I only see items where the respondent has said that the iPad cannot be hacked... So I will explain why I think mine really has been hacked.
    - 2 days ago at 6.15 am when I was asleep and my iPad was safely locked up at home an email was sent via my yahoo email account.
    - the email was address to myself and 3 contacts I know.
    - I saw the email later in the day because, of course, it landed in my inbox (I actually saw it first on another device)
    - over the years I have seen plenty of spam and spoofed email, but this looked different
        - firstly, one of the addressee emails was actually wrong and I also had a bounce email to say that yahoo had failed to deliver the message
    - so my first thought was that someone had hacked my yahoo account and sent the email from there. I therefore changed the password, hoping this would put a stop to the problem
    - in retrospect I checked the sent items box online in my yahoo mail account. The offending message was indeed there, so no doubt that it had been sent via the account. At that point I thought it likely that the hack had been via the online email service and not from any of my devices.
    - however, still curious I started checking all my devices (all Apple: 2 macs, 2 iPhones and finally the iPad)
    - all the devices showed no suspicious sent item except my iPad which showed the rogue email in the sent items folder under my email account details
    So, the questions now are:
    - how did this happen?
    - how do I stop this happening again?
Ps. The rogue email contained a link to the following URL
    //ceramiccoatingsfl.com/www.cnbcnews.com.reportage24h.today.viewprofit37.php

Unless the iPad was out of your sight long enough for someone to send the email it was not hacked. Its just not physcally possible to hack an iPad and then remotely send the email.
What happened is that since your iPad is synced to your Yahoo mail, any activity on your account is mirrored on the iPad. so when the email was sent thorugh your Yahoo account, the sent mail is put in your Sent folder which is mirrored to your iPad.

  • Handling over quota mails

    Hello,
I am using Messaging Server ....
    Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.3-5.02 (built Oct 12 2007; 32bit)
    libimta.so 6.3-5.02 (built 17:15:31, Oct 12 2007; 32bit)
Is it possible to move over-quota Messages held in a channel to a different custom channel?
This requirement is to help keep the over-quota mails for a week in a custom channel
    Thanks in Advance

This is for the 1st and the 2nd situation where the local accounts are over quota and are delivered either via, ims-ms, lmtp, or tcp_*.
We are trying to do this....
The Customer has about 150K boxes
They have requirement to keep the over-quota messages for 7-14 days. They may want to re-think this requirement. The reality is that due to the masses of spam email mailboxes are getting full very fast and storing emails for over-quota messages results in the systems having to process these bounces, which in turn clogs other mail channels.
They feel, channel might get clogged and there fore looking for a custom channel optionThe short answer is no, you cannot do this. Once the email has made it to the ims-ms queue there it stays waiting for delivery. If the email is 'over-quota' then the ims-ms channel will just keeping waiting to deliver the email -- much the same as any other channel.
As for the channel getting "clogged", this is always a possibility and it will need to be tuned/configured as appropriate. The customer may want to increase the "backoff" parameters to reduce the number of retries.

    Shane.
