IPad Erase & Sync

Hi,
My hard drive broke so have had to re-install everything with no backup on my Windows PC
When I try to sync my iPad it says the usual you need to "Erase & Sync" as it is synced with another iTunes library.
My question is: What will I loose if I erase and sync???
All my apps? Bookmarks?
Or just my iTunes Tunes?
Mike

When you want to download the apps you already purchased, just act like you are going to buy it again and it will give you a pop-up message that says _"You have already purchased this app. Would you like to download it again for free?"_
You can test it ahead of time by deleting an app from the ipad and redownloading it from the apps store on the ipad. Start with a cheap one and you'll see what I mean.
Note: You must use the apps store account that originally purchased the app, for it to be a free download.
The only down side is you lose your high scores, etc.
Let us know how it turns out...

  • ITunes is telling me my iPad is synced to another library - how can this be?

Hopefully someone can help with this!
I just connected my iPad to my mac mini, opened iTunes, clicked "iPad", and then clicked "music".  I've been having issues with my playlists and was going to try to edit them this way.  iTunes wouldn't let me even see the music on my iPad, and instead gave me a sync option, followed by this message:
Are you sure you want to remove existing music, movies, TV shows, books, and tones from this iPad and sync with this iTunes library?
This is mystifying.  This computer is relatively new - bought it in February - but:
I synced my iPad to my mac mini just a few days ago, with no issues
I've backed my iPad up to this computer once already, so my library should be the same on both devices
I only have one apple id and only use one library
I've also noticed that all of my iTunes playlists have disappeared from my computer, but remain on my iPad - could these two things be connected?
    Thanks

    Thanks for your quick reply!
I just re-booted my computer and iPad, and re-transferred purchases from my iPad to my computer.
I'm getting the same error message.  I really don't want to take the risk and "erase" anything on my iPad, even if it should re-sync to the same place as it is now.
I bought some music this morning on my iPad, and it flowed to my computer without any issues, so the wi-fi sync seems to be working as it should, but my iTunes still seems to think I'm synced to another library.
I did notice that if I go to "on this iPad", I can see all of my music.  Maybe from now on I just skip the manual sync option.
This is very strange - is there any chance I could have been hacked?
Anyway, I'm about to start another discussion to find out what is going on with my playlists...

  • How do I change the iTunes library my iPad is synced to?

How do I change the iTunes library my iPad is synced to?

My recommendation would be to set this up as a brand new iPhone, just as if it came out of the box.
Do that in Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings
You will then be directed to the welcome to iPhone screen, just as you would with a brand new device.

  • How does one prevent unathorized iPhone or iPad data sync

It has come to my attention that syncing an iPad or iPhone is relatively easy. So, here is my question, let's say my iPhone or iPad was stolen or maybe "barrowed" by someone and that person decides to sync the data from the iPhone or iPad to there Mac or PC laptops? Now all my information, such as contacts, notes, etc, contained in the iPhone or iPad is synced and transfered to the other persons computer. Even if my device was not stolen, if a person wanted to sync my important data form my iPhone or IPad is possible thus my data would be stolen. This type of data breech could happen at work, home, conventions, hotel rooms, etc... Yes, I know you can do remote wipe-out of data, assuming that you have noticed the thief or your device being "barrowed". So, is there a lock-out to prevent unathorized syncing of data from iPhone or iPad device? I was hoping for a setting that required an access code prior to syncing data, but no such setting exist. Before answering this question please read carefully what I am asking. Thanks.

A passcoded iPhone running iOS4 will not sync with a new computer until the passcode is entered into the phone. You do not need the erase function to be activated for the data to be protected.
I am looking for a way to prevent other accounts on the same mac from being able to sync with my iphone. It seems once you have authorized the iphone on a mac it allows all accounts to access the iphone through iTunes and iPhone Explorer.
Does anyone know how to remove the iPhone/Mac syncing permission once it has been granted?

  • My iPad wont sync to my computer but will sync to other computers.

Like the title says, my iPad wont sync to my computer but will sync to my bother's mac and my windows laptop.

First off, an iPad is designed to sync with only one computer. Syncing with a second computer erases everything synced from the first computer.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish? What happens when you try and what, if any, error messages do you receive? Do you have iTunes 11.1 or later on the computer you want to sync with?

Okay, this is interesting, because I was under the impression that FOR IOS DEVICES, contacts are NOT included in a backup, since they are already on icloud (in the contact database).  And since you erased the contacts, then they are gone for good.  One recommendation I've read about is, assuming you have a computer like a Mac also connected to the same icloud account, you can get the contacts back from a backup of the computer, like Time Machine.  However, I don't know where you'd look for that file or files (even though the contacts are stored centrally on icloud, I'm guessing they are also stored locally in a cache file).
I think another suggestion made here (IIRC) is to turn off syncing of contacts (on the device), then do a restore.  Since there's no sync, icloud's empty contact database will not overwrite the local contacts on the deviced.   Again, I may not be remembering correctly.  Some of these older posts about this same problem were some time ago.
I'd welcome anyone who really knows the details on this to add to the discussion here.  This is an issue faced by many posters.

  • I can't get my itouch and iPad to sync to transfer the videos that I bought from the iTunes store

I cannot get my iPad to sync from my iTouch.  I went to the setup and they said it would work when I got on my own wifi. Yeah right,  all of my videos purchased from iTunes are still on my itouch and not on iPad ?....

You can't sync from an iPod to an iPad (or vice versa). If the videos are not on your computer's iTunes then you can copy them from the iPod to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11) and you can then sync them from your computer to your iPad (depending upon what country that you are in then you might also be able to re-download them directly on the iPad via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app).

Perhaps this web page will help: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1229
But I must point out that leaving the iPhoto Library on the external is worth considering. Your internal drive would be better off without having to carry the photos.
When you booted with the external connected and you were asked for the library, did you try navigating to the Library in on the external drive?

  • Hi, I upgraded my girlfriend's iPad 2 using my iMac, however, her iPad was sync with her PC. Although I've made backup earlier, when I restore from backup the apps doesn't sync back, neither her documents on pages. How can I put then back to her iPad?

The backup saves many settings, but it copies photos and other files from the computer back to the iPad after IOS5 wipes the disk.   Plugging it into her computer will re-sync it.

  • How do I get my calendar on my ipad to sync with my calendar on my iphone 4s?

How do I get my calendar on my ipad to sync with my calendar on my iphone 4s?

I've done all of these things, and nothing is working. I understand how the cloud is supposed to work, and I understand how to sync via itunes. For some reason, the calendar is the only thing that isn't syncing.
I have support on the phone now. We've figured out that if I make a calendar entry on icloud from my PC, it follows through on my phone and ipad. Same if I make the entry on my iphone - it follows to icloud on my PC and ipad. But when I make the entry on the ipad, it doesn't follow through to my iphone or icloud on my PC.
I've had a tech walking me through all of this for about a half hour now. Can't figure it out. He's checking with his senior tech, has me on hold right now. It's looking like I may have to make a trip to my nearest Apple store, 45 minutes away.

I have had to restore my pc to a place back in time when it worked correctly. This meant that iTunes was deleted. I have now downloaded the latest version of iTunes but I cant sync my iPad with it. I get the message that this iPad is synced with another iTunes Library and cant sync to this one.  Thankfully all my music library is on iPad. I would be grateful for some help on this issue

Its solved I just restored it to that point

  • When trying to sync my iPad to my computer, I get the error "the iPad is synced with another iTunes library.

When trying to sync my iPad to my computer, I get the error "the iPad is synced with another iTunes library. An iPad can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time." I only have one iTunes account, so I am a little confused. If I select the option to "Transfer Purchases, I get an error message that says "Attempting to copy to the disk failed. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
    Any suggestions is appreciated.

Have you synced to this computer before?

  • Is there a way to create folders on one iPad and sync the folders to multiple iPads?

Is there a way to create folders on one iPad and sync the folders to multiple iPads? I have 23 iPads and I want to have all the folders match for easier access for students.

Here is a possibkle workaround, assuming the iPads are all starting out with the same initial content on them:
Backup that iPad to each computer you will be using. Then restore from the backup (only takes a couple minutes). Then rename the other 22 iPads.

  • The ipad wont sync and will return an error "Ipad cannot sync because the computer is no longer authorized to transfer the purchases..." But when I do a file devices transfer purchases.

The ipad wont sync and will return an error "Ipad cannot sync because the computer is no longer authorized to transfer the purchases..." But when I do a file>devices>transfer purchases. It is successful. Updated to ios7 recently. I'm facing the problem since then. I've tried deauthorizing and then authorizing several times.

Thanks Gail but ive tried that as well as logging oht and back into my accounts on my iphone and mac but I still get that message. I actually found a solution by unckecking my synced music playlist and clicking sync to remove it and then reclicked on my playlist to sync and it actually synced notmally and I got all of my new songs so I wanted to test it again so I clicked on sync again and the message once again popped up until I did the un-syncing and re-syncing again. I guess I will keep doing that in the future even though its annoying but its better than resetting my iphone.
