IPad External Sound not working.

My iPad (3rd generation) Wi-Fi only, my external sound doesn't work, what will I do? Whenever I put my earphones the sound works. I checked the warranty, the technical support was already expired and the repair and services is still active.

1. If you have no sound at all, even in the Music App, try rebooting the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
2. If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

3. If you still have no sound at all - except when using headphones ....try cleaning the dock connector opening of the iPad with a soft brush and just a little bit of rubbing alcohol.

  • HELP iPad mini sound not working

We just bought our daughter her iPad mini today and the sound just stopped working. It'll only work with headphones; we never put headphones in prior to the sound not working. I tried resetting the phone and phone settings several times, as well as plugging in and out headphones. I changed the switch on the side to lock rotate. I also turned off the mono sound thing. I am at a loss as to what else there is to do. Any other suggestions? I've been at this for a couple of hours now trying to fix her iPad. Please help!

Do you get sounds in any apps on the iPad ?
If you get sound in the Music and Videos apps but not others then have you got notifications muted ? You say that you changed the side switch to rotation lock, but are sounds muted ? The switch on the side of the iPad controls either rotation or mute, the function that it isn't controlling is set via the iPad's control centre : swipe up from the bottom edge of the iPad's screen and it's the right-most of the 5 icons in the middle of it (if the icon is white then it's 'on', tap it to turn it grey and 'off').

  • External sounds not working...

I know that this has been discussed quite thoroughly on here but I was wondering if any acutal SOLUTION had been reached. My external sounds just quit working. I have ran all updates, tried syncing, the switch is set to have sounds on, tried power cycling, reseting the settings, plugging and unplugging headphones and still have nothing... any new input on this? all it will do is vibrate no keypad sounds or anything...very frustrating!

If it's not even working with different computers, the drive itself may have failed unfortunately.

  • External sound not working

I think it started after I put headphones in.  But I cannot hear ringtones, music, speakerphone, ect.  I have obviously checked volume, put in safe mode, took out battery, hard reset, nothing has worked. not much help on the internet either.  Sounds like I am going to have to get replacement phone?

I got my Galaxy S4 a week ago and am still trying to learn how to use it. The external sound worked fine then all of a sudden 2 days ago it stopped coming through. SVoice and Robin (voice assistant) don't talk to me, whether Driving Mode is on or off. Klue's message above mentioned the earphones. I did use them once but there's no external sound when the earphones aren't plugged in. (BTW, the earphones don't fit nearly as well as my iPod earphones do. )
I think I probably just hit a button somewhere that turned off the external sound but I can't find what I did. I previously had sound when I was using Wifi and Bluetooth so I don't think that's the problem.
Please help. I wish the User's Manual was more thorough and offered much more info to us than it does. This is my 1st smartphone and need more help than the User's Manual offers.
    Thanks.

I recently bought my HP laptop a few days ago and when I turn it on I hear an annoying clicking sound. At first I thought it was the Hard Drive, so I called HP and they walked me through some tests to check out the Hard Drive, but eveything came out fine. Now when I tried to play a video the sound is not working. The clicking sound seems to be coming from the speakers but when I mute them I can still hear the clicking. Can someone please help me on this.

  • IPad 4 Sound not working after updating to iOS 8

I just updated to the new iOS 8 on my 16GB iPad 4 (New iPad).  After the update was completed the sound didn't work at all.  No lock sound, wouldn't play any ringtones etc. and when I went into YouTube, it played the video but no sound.
I tried a hard reset (holding down the home & lock screen button at the same time) and it now has sound, but it is way too loud and crackling.  I tried the hard reset again and this didn't do anything.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

I set in a genius appointmsnt and informed them of this issue and that I had tried hard resets and resting from the back up. They Informed me that it was a hardware problem and not a software problem. Since I am outside of my warranty I was informed it would be $299 to exchange for the same 4th gen iPad i had or $519 for an iPad air.  Apparently if your speakers go there is no fix other than the whole unit being replaced and he didnt have any suggestions other than to pay the money.  I hadn't had any problems with my speakers the full 1.5 years that I have had my iPad so wouldn't have know to have it replaced because of the hardware.  I was pretty ****** off leaving that appointment thinking that thanks to an update I would now have to fork out $300+ for an iPad due to an issue that i was unaware of until it happened.
SInce they didnt try anything in the store I decided to try and reset my iPad to new and see if that made any difference. To my surprise it worked. I set it as a new iPad and didnt use my backup but had all my contacts etc in iCloud. I'm glad that this fix has worked but ****** that the so call "genius" at the Apple Store didnt even ask if I'd tried resetting it as new nor did he do anything other than run his diagnostics and then proceed to tell me it would cost me $300+ for an iPad that is selling for $380 on sale. Not pleased with the service but happy that I've found at least a temporary fix.

In Settings > General > Sounds, are all categories turned on?

  • My ipad external sound stopped working, my ipad external sound stopped working

I've done everything, reset, restore, erase and reset, ersae and restore.Nothing is working no one will talk to me of course.BUT in the control panel its greyed out but i plug in the headphones it works and it reconizes when the headphones aren't plugged in. Please help????!!!!!

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

  • IPAD App Sounds Not Working

I had just updated my ipad to the 4.3 version today and opened up one of my downloaded applications and realized the sound wasn't working. I opened up my other ones and realized that the none of the sounds work. At first, I thought the speakers were broken but the sounds for itunes and youtube work. I tried turning the ipad completely on and off and that hasn't helped either.
Does anyone know how to get the sound working? I can't even watch the news videos with sound.

It's probably because Apple screwed around to satisfy the whiners. The "Silent" switch is probably turned on. It's intended to affect only the alerts from such things as email and other apps that support "Push" but I've found that sounds from many videos are also affected.
Adding insult to injury, they did a super-crappy job with the User Guide.
Read page 9. Note that this Guide also applies to the iPad-1 with IOS 4.3 except for those functions that are not supported by the hardware.
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipad
If the "Silent Switch" shown on page 9 locks/unlocks rotation, that's the result of
    +Settings/General/Use Side Switch to:+
You can change the configuration in Settings OR you can double-click the Home button. Then, slide the "Recents" tray to the right to display the Silent Switch at the extreme left of the tray. Yeah, there's nothing in the User Guide about this but at least the whiners are happy. The Settings option reverses the functions of the mechanical side switch and the software switch in the tray.

  • IPad sound not working

iPad sound not working. Need help

Is it working on any apps e.g. Music and Videos apps but not third-party apps or notification sounds ? If you do get sound in Music and Videos then have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • HP Pavilion dv6775-Vista-Internal sound not working-External sound is OK

    Hi All,
I searched through this forum and just realised that I am not the only person with this problem. Sometime back the sound of my laptop (dv6775us) stopped working. However the external sound systems work fine when connected. I have done whatever was mentioned on HP support site/Microsoft site etc. i.e checked the device driver, reinstalled etc. While running the diagnostic everything seems normal. Anybody has any clues, please help.
     Thanks in advance.

Hi I just fixed the same problem I found that the sound card was enabled but the speakers were disabled.
go to control panel  sound playback then right click in the window and check show disabled items. It was here that my speakers were disabled. hope this helps you.

  • AUDIODG.EXE hogging 80-100% of CPU and sound not working in Vista . . .

I posted this on a Microsoft Answers Forum but none of the techs or people reading have been able to help so far.  I'm dying to get to the bottom of this:
    Here is my computer:
    MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+
    2GB RAM
    XFX GEFORCE 6600 GT 128MB DDR3 DUAL DVI & TV OUT (PCI-E)
    200GB WD SATA HDD
500GB WD HDD in external enclosure via USB2
NEC ND-3520A 16X DVD±RW Dual Layer DVD Burner
    LG CD Burner
I've been using Vista Home Premium successfully for some time.  Recently, not too long after I did a clean wipe of my OS, my audio would stop working.  The way it would happen is that everything would work fine until I started iTunes or another audio application and when I would hit play, things would lock up.
Upon inspection of my system resources, I'm noticing that the audio platform for Vista, via the audiodg.exe, is using close to 100% of my CPU resources, even when the computer is making no sound at all.
I've had a Sound Blaster Live! card in my computer for some time but I was not using it; I use the Realtek AC'97 audio drivers that are on my motherboard instead.  I thought that the conflict may be the computer wanting to recognize my Sound Blaster, so I took it out of my computer but the problem seems to be worse.
Are there any BIOS setting that need to be adjusted for my sound to start working again?
I'm very reliant on the audio processing power of my computer (I'm in the radio industry, part-time) and this is a huge drag on my productivity.
Any tips would be much appreciated.
    REPLY #1:
Thank you for using Microsoft Answers forum.  I suggest going to the manufacture of your sound card and download the latest drivers and install them.
    MY RESPONSE:
Good suggestion.  The problem is this:
I am running on-board audio.  I have an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum motherboard which runs "Realtek ALC Series AC97 Audio Driver" and there is no version for Vista. They have a version for Windows 2K/XP and one for Windows XP 64bit.
Should I use on of those and if not, then what?
    UPDATE (from me):
I took a chance and found a Realtek AC'97 driver for Vista.
    http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/Realtek-AC-97-Audio-Codec-Driver-Vista-6183-Beta-Download-18114.html
I went to install it and the install hung.  So, I closed one of the install windows and then the InstallShield app continued like it was working.  So, I hit "Restart my computer".  Well, the reboot hung too.  So, I reset the PC manually.
When the computer came back up, the sound worked.  Hard to tell if this will fix it for good but it's promising.  Chaotic.  Unpredictable.  Annoying.
    REPLY #2:
Before you tried updating drivers, did you try rebooting 1st?
I'm just trying to determine if rebooting your system is what resolved the issue - thank you
    UPDATE II (from me):
My computer is behaving the same way it was before.  AUDIODG.EXE taking up 80-100% of my CPU and the sound not working.
    Any other ideas?

Small update: Despite my intelligence, good looks and vast experience I use Google sometimes. To my surprise this file turns out to be a Windows one. Here is someone who is much happier, and since it is some way in my line of thinking I'll quote it, but you might take my previous advice as well:
    http://forums.techarena.in/windows-vista-performance/1012315.htm
"- Open up msconfig.exe > Manage startup programs.
    - Disable ALL Realtek entries
    - Close msconfig.exe
    - Right-click on the speaker icon > Audio devices > Speakers (properties)
    - Go to the enhancements tab
    - Check the box to disable all audio enhancements
    - Close the menu
    - Right-click on the speaker icon > Recording devices
    - Disable all your microphones (yeah..., the actual problem seems to come
    from voice inputs rendering..)
    - Close the menu
    - Restart your computer"
