IPad fails to complete IOS 4.3 update

My iPad failed to complete the IOS 4.3 update. The message in iTunes said the iPad needs to be restored, but the restore fails to complete. I tried a different cable and USB port on my iMac. I charged my iPad for a few hours and tried it again. My iTunes is version 10.2.1. This is a iPad 1 (Wifi version).
iTunes runs through the restore process until it says "restoring iPad software" and almost completes the install. The restore completes until about 90% or so of the way and just hangs up.
Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem and called Apple. Here's what we did: I held down both the Home button and the Sleep button at the same time until the iPad rebooted. Then the iPad screen changed to the iTunes icon and a USB cord. When I opened iTunes, I could now see the iPad (previously it hadn't shown up) and got an error message. The Apple tech said I would need to restore the factory settings. I did and it took a while since my iPad is loaded with aps and music, but it all came back since it was backed up on my Mac.
Good luck! They are hearing from a lot of people with this (but I'm the only one I know with an iPad who had the issue) and didn't charge me--I don't have the extended care plan.

  • Ipad mini frozen after ios 8.3 update

I tried to update my iPad to iOS 8.3 today and the first time it was updating on the actual settings so I could still use my iPad but then I lost internet connection and I tried to update it today and it went black with the apple logo and a bar measuring the progress of the update. Anywyas,I'm not sure if it was about to complete or had completed but it went black with the Apple logo in the middle. I held down the home and on/off button at the same time and after a few seconds the screen goes black then the screen with the apple logo comes on then it goes black again. I then tried to turn it on by pressing the on/off button but it goes and stays on the screen with the apple logo so we're back to square one. I've tried holding them down a few times now but I keep getting the same result. Any help? The iPad first went into the logo about 6 hours ago. I thought it would take time for the device to process but seeing no result I tried the pressing both buttons method andnow iI'm asking if any one knows what I have to do? Thanks

You can preform a DFU restore.
    Follow my steps:
    - power down your iPad
    - Hold down the home button and don't let go
    - Plug the iPad to your computer
    - Do not let go the home button
    - ITunes will prompt you that the iPad is recovery stage
    - Restore your iPad
You should be all set and updated issue free.
    Cheers!

  • IPad 2 crash post iOS 6.01 update attempt

    Hi,
I was wondering if someone could help me restore my iPad. It’s an iPad 2 that I tried to update to iOS 6.01 yesterday. I clicked the update in general settings and then let it run in the background whilst also downloading the TED app, which I subsequently ran (I seriously doubt this is relevant, but on the off chance there is some conflict with the TED app that causes the iPad to die 20 seconds after opening it I thought I better include it). Shortly afterward, the iPad just suffered a complete crash , restarted and stalled at the ‘connect to itues’ screen.
I then plugged it into the macbook pro to connect to itunes, and itunes didn’t recognise it, telling me it had to restore it. I tried and it attempted to download an 806 meg update (which was written in as being iOS 6.01, which I assume is the total file size, but on the ipad itself it was around 46 megs - is that because it only changes the differences between the prior version perhaps?). iTunes got about 600 megs into the download and then stalled and then the ipad disconnected itself, so I switched it off, cancelled the download and then restarted it in the downloads section of iTunes without connecting the iPad until it finished.
I then began again, turning the iPad back on and then trying to restore it. This time, after the initial prompts about losing data etc, it just stalled at “preparing ipad for update” (or words to that effect) and wouldn’t budge. I looked up at these forums and it seems that this is generally a result of conflicts with anti-virus software, but my mac is barely used and has no such software. The only other advice I seem to get is to send it to the genius bar. I will if need be, but it just seems so unnecessary for what seems such a bizarre crash stemming from such a banal and low-load task.
If someone could please help I'd really appreciate it. I’m pretty computer literate and think with a reasonable enough step by step walk through I should be able to do this myself.
Also, if an Apple tech help person is here to solve this for me, can you please explain what could have caused this crash? Thank you.

  • EMac Fails to complete startup after security update install

I was running software update and My daughter used the emac to update her Ipod, putting software update in the background. after that i tried opening the system preferences but it did not open , I shut down the computer whick usually fixes problems!!. the computer comleted the boot up until ther blue progress bar was almost full and then it stopped. I was able to boot in single user mode and run fsck wityh no errors. I don't have a CD as the OS version 10.4 was a download update. I have a lot of data that I want to preserve. I was thinking I could start up with a system CD and copy a bunch of data to an external drive, and then reformat the internal drive and reload the system. Assuming I could buy a CD from apple. Has anyone had this problem and can suggest an alternate solution I ssuspect the boot code is corrupted or it is looking for something at the final steps of the boot process. can I edit the boot code using terminal? or am I SOL?
    Message was edited by: stevedyble

From what I have seen in the forums, this problem is most likely a software problem, possibly a corrupted preferences file. Your booting process is getting way past the boot code business. By the time that you get most of the way through the blue bar, the computer has loaded BSD unix and is loading the windowing system. So, I would not worry about trying to check the boot code and I think it very unlikely that you have a hardware problem. So, you should be able to get your data sooner or later.
One thing to try is booting in Safe Mode. If that works, then you will have isolated the problem - potentially to an extension, a login item or startup item (see What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?. With some more detective work, you could find the problem.
If that does not work, you could check out some of the ideas at Your Mac won't start up in Mac OS X (Mac OS X 10.3.9 or earlier). Some of that information may not be appropriate for Tiger, but I would direct you to step 5 to remove the loginwindow and windowserver preference files.
If still no luck, many people would opt for an Archive and Install to re-install the operating system. This way of doing it allows you to save your user data (as opposed to an Erase and Install or other methods of installing). But, if you do not have your original Tiger install disc, you will have to get one.
And, if you go the route of re-installing, it is always a good idea to back up your data first before the re-install. This is insurance against something going really bad, which occasionally happens. The easiest way to back up would be to attach another Mac to your emac via a firewire cable and then boot the emac in Firewire target disk mode. This will bring the emac harddrive icon onto the desktop of the other Mac, and then you can copy items of your choosing.
    I hope this helps,
    Rich

  • Ipad mini froze during ios 8.3 can't do anything frozen on apple screen now has white background and black apple can anyone help

I have an ipad mini ran the ios 8.3 update all going fine then on the last part it decided to freeze on the apple logo screen.  The screen has changed colour, the screen is white and the apple logo is black now.  I cannot do anything with it, I tried to restore through iTunes but nothing happens.  I tried to connect to iTunes holding down the home key but that didn't work.  Anyone have any other suggestions.

    Try to reset the device:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • Ipad does not turn off after ios7 update

I recently updated my ipad 2 to the iOS 7.3 update.  I left it alone to update because I knew it would take some time.  I set it up and then had to leave my ipad to take care of my baby.  I came back and it wouldn't turn on.  I figured it had run out of juice so I charged it all day today and it still won't turn on.

    Try rebooting...
press and hold the home and power buttons until the Apple icon is displayed, then let go.

  • IPad fails to connect to WiFi after OTA update to iOS 6

After the OTA update to iOS 6 my new iPad fails to connect to my WiFi network at home. My LANCOM router reports the following issue:

Ereignis: Rejected Association from WLAN station xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx []: ()

Grund: Cannot support all requested capabilities in Capability Information field
It has worked flawlessly in the past with iOS 5 on my new iPad and iPhone 4. At the moment I hestitate to update my iPhone too.
Anyone with the same issue or an idea how to fix it?
Thanks in advance, greetings from Stuttgart (Germany),

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • IOS 8.1 Update has "BRICKED" my iPad 4 128Gb

I am exceedingly angry about everything to do with iOS 8.x.  The 8.0 update mad everything intolerably slowm update 8.02 resulted in repeatable and constant crashing of Safari, mail, messaging, and other apps.
This morning I decided to try the Update to iOS 8.1 only because life has been extremely miserable after iOWS 8 came out.  Twice, the iOS 8.1 update stated that it COULD NOT BE COMPLETED based on an error which it did not disclose.  I then reduced the number of apps and deleted documents to reduce what was stored in memory.  The iOS 8.1 update still failed.
I then decided top do a hard reboot (Power Button and Home button hold)  ever since that, my iPad has been locked with the Apple Logo stuck on the screen.  It appears to be trying to reboot but is not.  It stays on for 20 - 30 min, the screen blacks out, the iPad shuts down, and then tries to reboot again.  It has been doing this now for over six hours.  It does not respond to any power button or home button pressing at all nor is it shutting down.
I am really angry that Apple botched iOS 8 up and has done a miserable update to a perfectly running iOS 7.x system.  I am also angry that everything at this point seems to be lost document and photo wise since the last backup a couple of weeks ago.
Has anyone else had this experience with the iPad 4 128 GB machine?
Has anyone been able to get it to finally reboot?
    I'd appreciate any help.

    Hi fifemidwife,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I understand you are trying to install iOS 8 on your iPhone 4s. The article you were linked from provides two methods to update, updating wirelessly and using iTunes. Did you try both? If you only tried one, try the other. If you still have difficulties, let us know what is happening and we can see what other options are avilable.
