IPad Folio Sharing Question

We are currently working with an international work group and would like to share a couple folios in one account to multiple devices. Does anyone know what the upper limit is for the amount of devices that can access one digital publishing suite account?
Furthermore does anyone know how if there is a reccomended file limit size for folios? If a folio reaches a certain size will it begin to slow down and act sluggish?

In our experience it's the hardware limitations of your device, not any limit set by Adobe, that will slow you down.  They recommend not putting articles adjacent to each other that have large amounts of interactive content.  I believe the viewer apps start caching the next article as soon as they've finished loading the current one so that everything is ready when you swipe to it.  For example, if you've got two articles with 50MB videos in each of them you don't want to put them right next to each other.  One way to keep your video size down if you're distributing to iPad is to create smaller video sizes (320x240, etc.) and play them inline instead of full screen.  Unfortunately you can't do this with Android currently.
Adobe has been very open with letting people use the Adobe Content Viewer to share and view folios.  They don't have any rules in place to limit you that I'm aware of.  Back in the days just after the beta they limited folio sharing to 1 folio per Adobe ID, but that limitation no longer exists.  You may want to look into paying for an Acrobat.com account if you're going to be hosting a number of large folios, they limit free accounts to 2GB.  You can bump that up to 15GB for $15/month.

One thing a folio larger than 500MB will do is become more of a hassle to download, users may become frustrated.  The acrobat.com server is definitely slower than the Distribution Service so the large folios take even longer to download.  It also takes up lots of the limited amount of space on their mobile devices.

    this is a Family Sharing question. After we upgraded to family sharing, and I now have a new apple id, I find that all the documents on my iPad in pages,  are only accessible if i sign in with the original apple id- now my husband's ( he is the primary account holder). Is there an easy way to migrate these documents to my iCloud account, or do i need to email them to myself . There are a couple of hundred documents.

    No. I have tried twice. When I turn off pages in the iCloud settings while logged into his account, then my documents in pages just are gone. They return when I turn it back on.
    Is there another way I can save them to the device?

    Thank you, but after an hour with apple support on the phone we came to the conclusion that the documents are lost... So the lesson is, don't trust icloud as a back up solution! A month worth of work down the drain...

  • Best Practice : Adding Android Versions to published iPad Folio

    Hi,
    I currently have an iPad Custom Viewer with a 239 page per orientation ( yes per orientation! ) folio, this is currently available on iTunes and published.
    We are adding Android 10.1" and Android 7" versions to this now.
    What would be the best method ( ie. least work ) to add the new screen sizes to the folio ?
    My options as I see it are :
    1. Use a different Adobe ID for the Android versions. This seems like the least work. Update and republish the iPad folio with all content unprotected to enable new Web Viewer feature with new Custom Viewer.
    2. Create a brand new folio with all renditions included. The problem with this is, I don't see a way to manually add all my _V iPad layouts to the alternate layouts. I literally have to set Object Based liquid layout rules for the _H and redo the _V using the rules.
    Is there a way for me too add renditions to the existing iPad folio ? Is it as simple as adding new screen sizes to the Folio Builder tool in InDesign ? Regardless I'd still need a starting point for the alternate layouts, and need to work from the iPad versions. Which brings me back to the end of Point 2.

    Hi.
    Each "rendition" is a folio, all published under same publication account. All renditions share common product ID. It is viewer's job to choose rendition best suitable for device.
    From my own experience, I publish all my magazines both on Apple and on Android with no different renditions. Yes on 7" screen the text is a little bit small for comfortable reading.

    ８月２２日の昼頃まで普通に使えていたContent Viewerが、夕方頃から動作が不安定になり、
    ２３日現在はFolioファイルが全くダウンロードできなくなっています。
    複数のAdobe ID、違うネットワークからの接続、違うiPadからのダウンロード、
    また様々なFolioファイルで試してみましたがダウンロードできず、
    若干ダウンロード出来たとしても１〜２ページ分のみで、Folio全体をダウンロードできません。
    ８月２２日時点でContent Viewerのバージョンがアップデートされていますが、
    それが関係しているのか、もしくは例のごとくサーバー側に何か不具合があるのか、
    原因が特定できておりません。
    何度かダウンロードを試すと、時々数ページだけダウンロードできたり、０MBのまま全く
    動かなかったりと動作がマチマチな為、サーバーが混雑しているような感も有るのですが・・・。
    （ちなみに、InDesignからのFolioアップロードや、WebブラウザによるAcrobat.comログインは
    普通に出来ます。）
    現在普通に運用出来ている方、もしくは同様の症状が出ていたけど解決出来たという方が
    いらっしゃいましたら、是非お知恵をお貸しいただきたいと思います。

    １週間検証を重ねていました。
    最初の頃より症状はだいぶ改善されて来ましたが、未だ万全という感じではなさそうです。
    長くなりますが、現在の状況をまとめます。
    ・以前のように全くダウンロードできないという状況よりは改善されている。
    ・数MB程度の軽いデータであれば確実にダウンロード可能。
    ・全体として大容量のFolioファイルでも、あれば、途中何度かエラーが出ても
    停止・ダウンロードを何度か繰り返せば全体をダウンロードする事が可能。
    ・タテ列のページ数が非常に多い（つまり単ページの容量が非常に大きい）
    Folioファイルは、何度繰り返してもダウンロードできない。
    ・時間帯によってダウンロードできる時間とできない時間がある。
    といった状態です。
    現在一番困っている状況としては、「タテ列のページ数が多いFolioがダウンロードできない」という点です。
    以前は一発でダウンロードできていたFolioも未だに何度かエラーを出しながらでないとダウンロードできない状況を考えると、安定してダウンロードできる状態まで戻っているとは考えられませ ん。
    しかしながら、各ページが大容量のFolioファイルを作成するのが初めてな為、このFolioファイルのファルサイズが原因でダウンロードできていないのか、現在のダウンロードが不安定な状 況が影響してのものなのかが特定できない状況です。
    いずれにせよ、サーバー側が以前の安定動作状態まで戻ってからでないと、原因の特定は難しそうです。
    引き続き、よろしくお願い致します。

    I,m an enterprise customer, and wondered is there a quick way to repurpose an iPad folio into a iPhone folio, for iPhones 3/4 and 5/6. My folios tend to be large at c45 articles, so I'm trying to avoid creating alternative layouts for (3/4)480x320, and(5/6) 1136x640. John.

    When using iPhoto to upload/share to Facebook, if I select certain albums to upload to, I get a popup that says "The operation could not be completed (facebookErrDomain error 10000)"
    I've also noticed that iPhoto doesn't load all of my Facebook albums to choose where to upload. Besides Wall Photos, iPhoto Uploads, and create new album .. it only shows 24 previously existing albums. Which is about 1/3rd of all of my albums.

    AirDrop is not available on an iPad 2 or on an iPhone 4S.
    To share content with AirDrop, both users need one of the following devices using iOS 7:

    What happens in the messenge app on the iPad if sharing imessage is shut off on the synced iphone5? If its turned back on will all the new messages on the iphone be sent to the iPad at once?
    girlfriends iPad always used to recieve iMessages right away, but I looked at it the other day and a bunch of messages loaded after I opened the message app. Im wondering if the share iMessage was turned off and on?

  • IPhone 6 DPS folio resolution question

    Hi,
    We have an existing iPad DPS app (multi folio with subs).
    I am in the process of remaking it, to include iPhone.
    I set the iPad folios up at 1024 and for the HD version it looks ok. I tend to make the rasterised assets at 50% so they look ok up.
    What resolution should I use for the iPhone? As I understand it, I'll need to make renditions – two, to account for the different aspect ratios (3:2 and 16:9). Unlike the iPad, am I better artworking to the iPhone 6 plus size and coming down (Alt layouts), or could I artwork to the 5 and use a similar method to ensure clarity to 6 and 6+? Will it pick up the 5s res on the 6 and 6+?

    The iPhone viewer does not have support yet for an iPhone 6/6+ rendition. You should design for the iPhone 5, every indication we've had is that iPhone 5 content looks perfectly fine on iPhone 6 with no changes.

    Do they have a verified Adobe ID and have they signed into the viewer?

  • Home Sharing Questions

    Hello,
    I have two questions regarding home sharing while I am on vacation. I understand that if I am not on the same network, I will not have access to my files on my iMac or my PC, however, I do have two questions:
    1. If my iMac and my iPad are signed into the same VPN, will home sharing work if I am on vacation? Both my iMac and my iPad will be signed on to the same server.
    2. I have Xfinity as my Internet provider, and they provide hotspots all over the country that are free for me to use. Since my iMac/PC are on thee Xfinity newtwork, if I sign into the Xfinity hotspot while, say in Maine and my equipment is in Florida, will home sharing work?
    My fear is that I must be logged into the same network ID, and they will not be available to me. However, I do have two Network ID's (one is a 2.4Ghz and the other is a 5GHz and they have different names, and Home Sharing does work if my AppleTV is on one and the iMac/PC/iPad is on the other.
    The same questions I guess will apply to my AppleTV device, however, if I can get access to my Home Sharing on my iPad, which along with my AppleTV device, I will be bringling with me, I can always change the airplay to play on the AppleTV from my iPad.
    Even though I have a WIFI Seagate drive that I use as both a backup and storage for my photos (I am a professional photojournalist) I have all my iTunes files backed up on that device (good thing because if an artist pulls their work from iTunes and you store it Apple's Cloud, it will be deleted) and had I not had a backup, all the Celtic Woman concert videos (close to $60 worth) would be gone

These questions are important for me as I plan to spend 3 months every year traveling throughout the country doing street photography and travel photography as I also shoot stock for Getty Images, so if my movies and music are especially my Home Movies (I have instructional videos and PDF files in iBooks that I may need access to) are not going to be available, I would hate to drag my desktop with me. I will take my WIFI drive and use its player to play my music, as while I can change the directories on my iMac to point to the external drive, I do not know of a way to do this on my iPad.
    If I get a travel trailer to use instead of staying in hotels, I may just bring my iMac with me. But I really would like to leave it save in my house.

    The answer to both questions is no.
    It only automatically syncs new purchases from the iTunes Store between devices, and even then only tracks purchased after the option has been turned on. It won't do a catch up sync to start with.
    Non iTunes Store purchased tracks have to be imported manually.
    You can view all the tracks that are in the source library but not in the target library.
    Then select them all and hit the import button.
    All that will do though is transfer the music, it will not move playlists, etc.

  • IPad Folio Overlay Preview Only Displays One Orientation at a Time

    I have a simple two page InDesign doc created from the ground up for DPS. It has some text, image, slider overlay, and video embedded, and has a file_v vertical (portrait) layout and file_h horizontal (landscape) layout.
    My problem is when I preview it on a connected iPad, only one orientation is previewed at a time. I double checked my iPad, its orientation is not "locked". I also tried on another iPad and had the same results. For example, only the portrait version is previewed on the iPad no matter how I try and change the iPad orientation. In order to preview the landscape version, I need to go back to my doc, scroll down to the page where the file_h version starts, and hit folio preview from there.
    If I preview on desktop, the Adobe Viewer correctly shows both layout orientations and I can switch between them.
    I only had this problem after recently renaming the doc. I tested an older version of the doc, and had this same problem.
    My question is: might there be a setting or preference somewhere to lock an iPad preview to only one orientatation? I'd really like to get the function back to preview both orientations at the same time to see how they compare.

    I was indeed using the folio overlay vs the folio builder.
    From the folio builder panel, I setup a quick test folio and added my current doc, then from the top level folio builder panel, hit the twirly-down for preview on iPad.

    Read a few discussions on similar scenarios, but couldn't really find a solution.
    Wife's iPad 1 and my iPhone 4 share my AppleID for the iTunes Store. With iOS5 out, we can all go cordless and I would like to take advantage of that. I have created her AppleID, but how may I fully delink my ID from her iPad and link it to her ID without loosing app's data?

    To all intents and purposes, all apps, movies, music, etc, are downloaded are for one single apple ID, though 5 devices can be authorized to use the apps but only registered to your Apple ID account.
    Switching 'Home sharing' on can help here.
    To set up a new apple ID for your wife on the iPad will create a new fresh iPad system without your Apps data I'm afraid. So it will be a lengthy copying and authorising to do. 
    MobileMe had a system to resolve all this known as Family package.
    I'm not sure about iCloud providing this family package at this stage, but it would be a proper answer to your question.
